The „Csardáskirálynő” – Czardas Queen operetta celebrating its 100 hundred anniversary.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The „Csardáskirálynő” – Czardas Queen operetta was composed by Imre Kálmán.

Exhibition and Gala night at the Operetta and Musical Theater – Budapest.

The „Csárdáskirálynő” – Czardas Queen is once again back home after its long journey to charm the Hungarian and foreigner audiences.

To the grand event arrived to celebrate with  the troupe Yvonne Kálmán, the composer’s daughter, the composer’s son, Charles Kálmán, his widow and his son, Charles Kálmán Jr. In addition to the current  performance, former legendary participants, director and foreign guests.also attended the Gala show. Zoltán Balog – Minister of Human Resources opened the „Csárdáskirálynő” – Czardas Queen  past 100 years operetta exhibition

The melodies of the Czardas Queen for the first time on November,17. 1915 rang in Vienna, at the Johann Strauss Theater. At the time being nobody would have had suspected that this is the beginning to a successful story that continues up to this day.  No surprise that at the original venue in Vienna the audience saw the show 533 occasion since after the 1915’s premiere. The piece was staged despite the WWI  also in Sweden, Finland, Poland, Russia and Italy. Probably not on my own by saying, that the melodies of Imre Kálmán’s, (born 125 years ago) right this minute is somewhere  around the world played either on stage, on television, on the radio, at a concert hall or within a gala show.

To Budapest it finally made its way a year later in November at the Broadway Theater.  Kálmán’s music was praised by the local librettist – P. G. Wodehouse saying:“The Kálmán score was not only the best that the gifted Hungarian ever wrote but about the best anybody ever wrote…”

The Czardas Queen musical operetta already toured all around the world and the audiences just alike in Budapest gave standing ovations, in Tokyo, Rome, Munich and in Amsterdam had pleasure to see the original play as it is on show at the Budapest Operetta and Musical Theater. While in Salzburg and Prague was a co-production, directed by KERO® with the local stars on stage.

The Czardas Queen story in a nutshell: The story is about a hopeless love of the Duke Edwin to Sylvia, a star from the Budapest Orpheum. The family disapproves of the lowly relationship. The parents everything in their power to lure their son back to Vienna, where the have already chosen an appropriate girl for him, the Countess Stazi to help haste matters by buying a New York contract for the chanson singer Sylvia Vereczky. However, the dear foolish Count Bóni conspires to help the lovers, as does also the waiter, Miska and his twin brother Alfons … the butler at the house of Lippert-Weilersheim … and Uncle Feri, Bóni’s friend from the Orpheum. He is the main weaver of threads and is even ready to disclose the love of his youth, and Edwin’s mother hoping to succeed.

Unfortunately, cannot update about the evening’s performance, cause the tickets were all sold out.

Budapest is staging its own Lunch Beat Break

Orbit Lunch Beat in Budapest 2015

The beat goes on in the middle of the day and only last for 60 minutes. to unloose between your daily work and go for it. The Lunch Beat has arrived to Budapest.

It started in Sweden around the season of fall in 2010, when 14 friends decided to dance their lunch breaks away in their office garage. They called their gathering “Lunch Beat.”  More and more people are joining, popping around  at Lunch Beat places around Europe’s countries. The basic idea behind Lunch Beat is that workers take an hour break in the middle of the day to let loose in the company of fellow dance-enthusiasts.

Here in Budapest just couldn’t resist not to copy this daytime dining in flavor of daytime raves. One major thing you have to keep in mind is to not go into conversation about your job at  Orbit Lunch Beat. This will surely …  as intended to be … of forgetting about your job, so you can feel energized and inspired when you get back to your little world, your desk.

Go for it … fist-pumping, as sweat-dripping revelers, in your perfectly iron suit or  dancing in  your cute little costumes. It is really beneficial to public health as well.

You are welcomed to attended a non-nightlife  Lunch Beat starting on Thursday,September,3.2015. at 12.30 p.m where Deniz will be taking care to tap your feet at the Westend City Center B2 parking lot. Continuing at eight different venues where you can let go your spirit at eight different locations in Budapest:

On September 10,  – Juli & Zoohacker Corvin Plaza’s rooftop terrace. On September, 17. –  The New Empire Level at Dob Street  Supply House, On September,24, The Biebers  at the InstantOn. October, 1 – The Honeybeast  at the Sky Terrace of Gozsdu, October, 6,  – the Budapest Bar  at the Supply House.  October, 8. – Kallay Band Saunders at the Dorothy-Yard, while the Animal Cannibals on October 15, proves live concert at the Westend for the lunchy folks.

Having 60 minutes of lunch break is not as long than for example in France (2Hs) but now here in Budapest can experience to get into the mood at the Orbit Lunch Beat rather than having lunch at the usual place at the workplace canteen or sitting  in front your computer by your desk.

Hope this newsflash will reach many dance loving interested folks, but you are too lazy to dance … eat elsewhere.

Jewish Cultural Festival – Budapest – 2015.

thimage

A Jewish cultural cavalcade in Budapest slowly reaching the end of the summertime season can be a special occasion for everyone. Over the past years, every visitor could rightfully feel the event was his own, and I know this will be no different this year with the Jewish Cultural Festival hosted under its new name. This is where the Hungarian Jewish Community opens its gates, presents its customs and the colourful world of its traditions. Every year, excellent Jewish and non-Jewish men and women rally their forces to entertain those interested in Jewish culture with superb programs during the Jewish Cultural Festival.

Budapest is a receptive city. Our festival demonstrates that the capital of Hungary is host to a diversity of cultures, welcoming its visitors from all parts of the world with friendship. The programs offered by the festival could best be compared to a bunch of colourful wild flowers. Fresh flowers that shine in a thousand shapes and colours, beautiful on their own, and gorgeous in a bunch. Symbiosis is a widespread form of plant life. Symbiosis means two plants living together that is advantageous for both.

The symbiosis of the Hungarian and the Jewish cultures has brought about many an eternal value over the past centuries. “So the cock crows” – we hear at Klezmer concerts and the song has become a treasure for all Hungarians. Its composer is Eisik Taub, the wonder rabbi of Nagykálló, born in 1751.

Mariusz Rosenthal was born in Balassagyarmat in 1789. Today, he is known as Márk Rózsavölgyi. Few are aware that this Jewish man gave us the Csárdás – “czardash”. He was a friend of the great poet, János Petőfi. When the National Theatre was inaugurated, it was opened with the round dance Palotás composed by Rózsavölgyi.

Ferenc Neumann was born in 1878. He wrote the world’s perhaps most beautiful youth novel, The Pál Street Boys in a crowded, musical café, Of course, Ferenc Neumann is known by his pen name, Ferenc Molnár. The range of examples is virtually endless. They are all representatives of the co-existence of the Hungarian and Jewish cultures.

Welcome the events of the Jewish Cultural Festival 2015 with joy, with open heart. Enjoy its rich, colourful program and live in a symbiosis with it during the next few days. Those who come and visit the events of the festival can be sure of one thing. They will not depart empty-handed.

They will receive the mental-spiritual treasures grounded in thousands of years of tradition that can be of help to anyone in finding a way in the complicated issues of life. The great venues to visit … the Synagogues in Dohány Street and Rumbach Street and the Goldmark Hall

Exhibition Budapest – “Freedom Express” – European Network Remembrance and Solidarity.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

“Freedom Express”

Opening exhibition in Budapest until August, 8. 2015.

Covering Roads to 1989. East-Central Europe 1939-1989 and is available for visitors at the open-air  park venue outside the National Museum .

Freedom Express is a social and educational campaign organised by the European Network Remembrance and Solidarity. Its first part was a study trip whereby a group of young artists, journalists and historians visited Solidarity’s Gdańsk, then Warsaw, Budapest, Sopron, Timisoara, Prague Bratislava and Berlin. The trip’s agenda of meetings, workshops and artistic activities was made possible thanks to the cooperation of a number of institutions involved with 20th century history.

The exhibition “Freedom Express was officially opened by Zoltán Balog, Hungarian Minister of Human Resources, along with dr László Csorba, director of the Hungarian National Museum, dr Iván Bába, the Hungarian coordinator of the European Network Remembrance and Solidarity, Lieselore Cyrus, Ambassador of the German Federal Republic to Hungary and Roman Kowalski, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Hungary. Over 100 honourable guests were present at the ceremony.

During the opening ceremony Minister Zoltán Balog said that the duty of those who survived the dictatorship is to keep the memory of the difficult past and pass it on to next generations. This is our moral obligation. He also stressed that the communication about the past only makes sense when something good comes as a result of it. That is why Minister Balog concluded with a question about the role of remembrance, which is the key issue in the work of the European Network Remembrance and Solidarity. The fundamental objective of the Freedom Express campaign, initiated by the ENRS, is to create a common narrative of European history – said Roman Kowalski, Ambassador of Poland in Hungary. He added that such projects contribute to shaping the dialogue and creating the complementary narration about the history of the 20th century, in which there is room for a multiplicity of perspectives and interpretations. This dialogue supports our identity, giving the chance to future generations to avoid the mistakes of the past – Ambassador Kowalski concluded. Dr Iván Bába stressed that today’s perception of the communist past only through the prism of humour and everyday life, can be misleading. During the communist past, the sense of humour played a crucial role and had a clearly defined therapeutic effect. With the help of Polish posters, Hungarian films and various other forms of artistic expression we tried to remain independent and defend ourselves. Today communist period returns in a specific pop version. It is becoming more and more popular amongst young people and unfortunately promotes a distorted picture of the past – explained dr Bába.

Ambassador of the German Federal Republic in Hungary, Lieselore Cyrus, observed that this exhibition is a signpost for the future, teaches us how to search for freedom. The idea of freedom and democracy must remain our compass – she stated.

The exhibition, designed by historians associated with European Network Remembrance and Solidarity, documents the complicated process through which this part of Europe regained its freedom from communist dictatorship. Presented earlier in Berlin, Brussels, and Warsaw the exhibition concentrates on various ways in which civil liberties were limited in the former communist bloc and on attempts made to regain them. It focuses especially on the question of what connects and divides remembrance of the events that preceded the fall of communism in Central and Eastern.
