UIPM President Rob Stull “Q” I couldn’t be more grateful to everyone involved in staging a hugely successful Pentathlon World Cup here in beautiful Budapest.

Sumarizing the Men’s Epic Final … There was a fascinating hare-and-tortoise meeting in Heat 2 as Koleszar (HUN) took off fast against Brown (GBR), only to slip off the Flying Hoops and lose the lead. Remarkably, the local Hero got back in front of his rival as they both hit the buzzer at cca. 31sec.

The next generation of pentathletes then entered the fray to show how it was done. Forrest set a time of 22.21sec that would not be beaten all day and Matous Tuma of Czechia also broke 23sec. Jun (KOR) fell from the Tilting Ladders, hurting his lower back as team-mate Seo (KOR) charged off to win their all-Korea battle in 24.28. Much was expected of world record-holder Mohamed El Ashqar (EGY) but a few minor errors saw him fall short of his usual standards – though a 22.78 still made him highly competitive overall.

Moriz Klinkert (GER) was a non-starter and the final race between Dogue (GER) and Hassan (EGY) shaped up to be potentially decisive. Hassan (EGY) struggled on the Tilting Ladders, allowing Dogue (GER) to extend his overall lead with a solid 26.22.

In the Pool … There was very little to separate the athletes in the pool, though Brown (GBR) and El Ashqar (EGY) deserve special mention for breaking the 56sec mark for 324 and 323 points respectively, with Kovalchuk (UKR) and Jun (KOR) each taking 320 to strengthen their position.

It added up to an incredibly tight Laser Run start line, with El Ashqar (EGY), Fleurot (FRA) and Dogue (GER) all starting within 1sec of each other and Bohm (HUN), Hassan (EGY) and Grycz (CZE) lurking in close proximity.

Laser Run … El Ashqar (EGY) was immediately caught out by a slow shoot, slipping down to 8th, while Hassan (EGY) took 17sec to get his first set away. It led to a defined 1-2 battle between high-flying Dogue (GER) and hard-working Fleurot (FRA), with Grycz (CZE), Bohm (HUN), Bories (FRA), Hassan (EGY) and Forrest (GBR) in the chasing pack.

At the second shoot, Fleurot (FRA) made a mistake and Grycz (CZE) cught up with him, while Bohm (HUN) was unable to find his shooting prowess and it was Forrest (GBR) who looked the more likely to enter the medal equation.

Dogue (GER) remained steady with 12-13sec shoots, while Kovalchuk (UKR) became the big mover from a starting position of 13th. At the final visit to the range, Fleurot (FRA) shot out of the range to overtake Dogue (GER) in a bolt for gold. Sadly for him, the experienced double Olympian found his kick and passed his rival in the outdoor section of the course, to re-emerge into the arena as an unconquerable gold medallist. Similarly for Grycz (CZE), the running pace of Kovalchuk (UKR) was irresistible.

Splendid Day with you or without you on the spot. Anyway  for those who couldn’t have made it  was worthwhile to catch up by any means to watch the women’s modern pentathlon final through live stream.  It was a spectcular energy competition.

Started with the fencing … 5 Rounds of Direct Elimination … First to touch or most … touches in 1min wins. Then on they go to the 8 obstacle more speed – more point to go … Thenafter, 100m freestyle racing in the 25meters length … Competition leader go in final heat … Last chance to boost laser the laser run. Still running – handicap start … 5 laps of 600m course … 5 visit to the 10meter laser range … 5 hits needed to exit .. Watch out for overtakes the range … The range is the spot where everything may change … First to finish wins.

Blanka Guzi thrilled her home crowd in Hungary by taking a record-breaking victory in the Women’s Final at UIPM 2026 Pentathlon World Cup Budapest.

Claiming her second Pentathlon World Cup gold of the season, the world No.1 was pushed to the brink at the BOK Sports Center by Great Britain challenger Poppy Clark.

In the absence of world champion Farida Khalil (EGY) and Olympic champion Michelle Gulyas (HUN), Guzi continued to make hay and make history. In the city where she lives and trains, her performance established a new overall record of 1,495 points – the highest tally since the new format was introduced at the start of 2026.

On the spot International Olympic Committee President Kirsty Coventry sitting among the crowd, the local favourite was relentless in moving up the standings, eventually surging clear to repeat her 2023 triumph in Budapest – HUN  by 5sec from 22-year-old breakthrough starlet Clark -GBR.

Paris 2024 Olympian Laura Heredia of Spain won a three-way battle for bronze, also clinching her first global senior medal, ahead of Viyaleta Hureyeva of Belarus and Paris 2024 Olympic bronze medallist Seungmin Seong of Korea, who rounded out the top five with Anna Jurt of Switzerland sprinting to finish 6th.

Update to the Japanese Film Festival Online 2024

Below are the dates, times, and countries/regions where the Japanese Film Festival Online 2024 will be held. This will be held for the third time this year since 2020. There will be 25 films and TV dramas shown in 27 countries/regions where the festival will be held, both of which are the highest numbers ever. In addition, we will also introduce a new short movie from the video series “MINI THEATER JOURNEY” and the “Japan Mini Theater Report” which describes the insights gained from the production of the series.

Retrospection to the Online Japanese Film Festival (JFF) – Hungary – 2021

Japan brought their latest trends in Japanese cinemafor movie lovers to watch in their armchair free online films within the Japanese Film Festival (JFF).

The Japanese Film Festival (JFF) is a project held by the Japan Foundation to promote Japanese film around the world. With a slogan of „Japanese Film Anytime, Anywhere.” The program was launched in 2016 for 10 ASEAN countries and Australia. Since then holding the Festivals with the latest Japanese films and expanding their network in including countries such as: China, Russia, and India. In the 2019-20 year was held festivals in 56 cities in 12 countries, whilst watched by more than 170000 viewers.
This year, in addition to the conventional in-person Japanese Film Festival (JFF) events, held a “JFF Plus Online Festival for online viewers in the 20 countries. These were: Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, South Korea, Vietnam,  Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Egypt, Germany, Italy, Spain, Hungary.

The JFF is under the umbrella of the Japan Foundation which is Japan’s only institution dedicated to carrying out comprehensive international cultural exchange programs throughout the world. With the objective of deepening mutual understanding between the people of Japan and other countries/regions, our various activities and information services create opportunities for people-to-people interactions. Online Festival took place from November2020 up to March 2021 in 20 countries around the world bringing 30 Japanese films ranging from the latest hits to always popular anime and the classics.

All the JFF screened films had subtitles in Arabic, Burmese, Central Khmer, English, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese language.

Tsukiji Wonderland 2016 – Documentary – length time 1h 50min. Director: Naotaro Endo
Synopsis JFF „Through the lives of professionals working at Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo, the film portrays how Tsukiji has been the center of fish culinary culture and helped Japanese food culture to flourish as we know it today.”

Adding to the documentary … overall: Tokyo – Edo in 1923 was a grand earthquake and whilst rebuilding the venue over the decades Tsukiji became over the decades one of the biggest World Fish Market providing huge service to the world fish food by hard working people. They have daily wholesales fish auction and was clear to learn “most important is the “jouhou” (the information) without the info the fish would just sit there.

Tsukiji is One of the Seven Food Wonders of the World.

Tsukiji has its artisan culture. Was said, there are 10 days in a year when fish taste its best, but each season has its own variety in fish … Spring: brings shellfish … March: is the icefish season … Tune in the Spring are the best in taste. Tuna is all around the season, but during the summer they aren’t so fatty. Tuna live deep in the sea they do not have to struggle on the hook, they aren’t vital because of the food they eat. Summer: Sweetfish started to fish in june and they are caught in the river. Autumm: Typhoon at its best. Scallops arrive at ESqUISSE alive. Winter: more variety in fish and they get more fatter pufferfish – mackerel.

During the JFF was not all drama, documentary, musical but were animated features, films, cartoons for kids and interviews with Japanese directors.

3RD. DIPLOMATIC CHARITY FAIR IN BUDAPEST 2013.

The Association of Diplomatic Spouses Budapest DSB (Diplomatic Spouses Budapest) organized for the third time this year the Diplomatic Charity Fair. The family fair was opened to  everybody who wished to join this event. The main purpose is to raise money for charities was also supported by the Hungarian DSB.

Organizations supported by the DSB: Special Educational and Development Institute (SOFI). The Brothers of the Good Shepherd (victims of violence for women and kids).  The Esztergom Our House (the community center for disadvantaged children and families in need of services). The entry ticket fee was 500HUF which as a donation also was offered  to the organizations  supporters.

The official opening and welcoming words were given by  Biljana Griovska, President of the DSB club, deputy mayor of Budapest and H.E. Mr. Alberto Bottari de Castello, Apostolic Nuncio. 

Mrs Anita Herczegh, the spouse of the President of Hungary was the guest of honor.

During the fair the national stalls of different countries presented their yummies, folk art, music and dances but souvenirs can buy small gifts for visitors. Was alike as having a trip in a wink abroad in just minutes away from one nation to the other. There was a „kids corner”, crafts, self-made silver and art jewelry, rainbow colors of pashmina stoles, hand-made painted silk exotic food/spices, gifts, cloths, home furnishing and ayurveda products from India. Thai and Indonesian food and spices, wooden gifts, exotic fresh veggie and fruit drinks, hand-made sweeties, Dolce Vita Beauty supplies, organic drinks … far from knowing the existence of these drinks by the Hungarians.

The entertainment programs of the day were awesome, having the present the preformances of the ExperiDance show, the splendid Korean and Indian dance shows, Children music group from Bosnia and Herzegovina. Music performance represented by Andre Goodfriend and Karen Posner Mullen from the U.S.A. Embassy in Budapest, brought the eye-catching Iberoamerican artists on the  stage, grand show with 16 dancers show by the Folk group from Serbia, Hungarian Opera singers, Italian musicians. Second-hand cloths … mostly brand new and various accessories all in good condition. The event was held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Budapest.

The charity fair have had become so popular compared to the previous two years, there was no question to hold again the third diplomatic charity fair this year with the participation of the representative embassies. The countries were: Belarus, Bulgaria, Estonia, Indonesia, Japan, Lebanon, UK, Belgium, Slovenia, Macedonia, Moldova, Georgia, Lithuania, Qatar, Jordan, Thailand, Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Egypt,Serbia, Latvia, Angola, Philippines, China, Russia, Turkey, Switzerland, Ecuador, USA, Mexico, Pakistan, Palestine, Albania, Kosovo.

During the late afternoon hours, the giant raffle draw took place with sophisticated prizes awaiting the lucky ones … Just to mention the most wanted ones … trips offered by the participating countries to their homeland was the most popular beside the 28 prizes.

Even though the program started at 10 a.m. and officially ended at 4 p.m., seemed like nobody wished to leave the place, feeling good and enjoying the each others companies.

This international gathering absolutely proved  peace and harmony is in everyone’s heart.  This good vibration should be propagated around the world. Happy people filled with warm hearts.

Thumbs-up to the organizers …  Even though on a day called Sunday, the Sun was missing, raining throughout the day … for many it was a bright and sunny day at the Diplomatic Charity Fair!
