Son of Saul – Holocaust drama is numbing, provocative and impossible to unsee, directed by – László Jeles Nemes. The Auschwitz-set horror thriller has been nominated for the British Independent Film Award – BIFA – in the best foreign-language film category.
This is the first Hungarian film to be nominated for the British prize.
„Son of Saul” won the Grand Prize of the Jury at the 2015 Cannes International Film Festival.
Also bagged three more other prizes, the FIPRESCI Prize awarded by critics, the award for technical execution and the recognition for movies carrying social importance named after François Chalais.
The storyline … In the horror of 1944 at the Auschwitz concentration camp tells the story of the final day-and-a-half of the life of Saul Ausländer in the death camp. Saul is forced to burn the corpses of his own people finds moral survival upon trying to salvage from the flames the body of a boy he takes for his son.
The script was upon Clara Royer and László Nemes Jeles. Starring: Géza Röhrig – Saul Ausländer, Levente Molnár – Abraham, Urs Rechn – Biedermann, Sándor Zsótér – doctor, Todd Charmont – Braun, Uwe Lauer – Voss.
Beside the original Hungarian language it has English subtitles.
