Last Rays of Summer @ The Lake Balaton

Balaton Circle – “Taste the Circle!” … This year’s first event of the “Kostold Körben” – “Taste Around” wine & gastro festival with restaurants, wineries was held in a worthy location … where else … than at the middle of Lake Balaton, on the ferry between Szántód and Tihany.

GasztroFerry gave gastronomic presentations within 10 restaurants and 10 wineries out of almost 50 members of the Balaton Circle. Find out what flavors, scene, experiences and programs awaited the invited guests and media representatives.

We were one of the One Million passengers on the ferries on Lake Balaton!

In recent years, September has also become a summer month, and it is during this period that Lake Balaton shows its most beloved face. There is no more mass tourism, so they can deal with the guests even more and organize a quality program that promotes the region and the restaurants of Lake Balaton. The goal is to even out the often extreme fluctuations in terms of the number of guests, and to allow entrepreneurs in the region to plan with a year-round opening time. Also added…Many new quality restaurants have opened around the lake this year not only for local businesses, but for the interest of all of them to make Lake Balaton not just a weekend destination. In the future, travel decisions will not be determined solely by the weather report, as in all circumstances and every month, guests will find the right place to visit where programs, attractions and gastronomic experience are in favor around Lake Balaton. With the services and local products of the members of the Balaton Circle, they contributed in making Lake Balaton one of the outstanding gastronomic regions of Hungary – told Lajos Szilágyi – President of the Balaton Circle.

Alíz Markovits – CEO of Veszprém-Balaton 2023 Ltd., spoke about the framework of the European Capital of Culture 2023 project, it had already been recognized in the tender phase that only the region and Lake Balaton could achieve outstanding success. “This aspiration is confirmed by the fact that more than 103 settlements have already joined, and together with them, they can support the aspirations of the Balaton Circle with diverse cultural programs”

“This year celebrating the 175th anniversary of the BAHART was pleased to join the initiative of the Balaton Circle. During the autumn season must be filled with meaningful programs and quality services, which include wine, gastronomy and shipping.” – emphasized Gábor Veigl, CEO of BAHART.

A total of 26 restaurants, confectioneries, wineries and brandy distilleries of the Balaton Circle were presented at the Autumn Opening GastroFerry event. All dishes were freshly prepared on portable hotplates. Participants could get a taste of the yummy finger-food and delights.

“Taste the Circle!” The fleet was divided into two parts, serving on one side were the gastro delight and on the opposite side the wines, Pálinka and gin.  There was an abundant supply of wines and Pálinka. Wineries such as Attila Hajdú – Olaszrizling ⋕1 from Fürjes Winery. The winemaker. former goalkeeper later found his future occupation in hospitality – deals with wine production and can be reach at Fürjes Villa Pension – Balatonfüred, Pócz Winery – Balatonlelle, Kemendy Traditional Champagne Workshop – Balatonfüred, Szabó and Son Wine Cellar – Balatoncsicsó, Martinosa Winery – Mount Tagyon … just mention a couple brilliant wines from a/m wineries.

An everday Q! …Wanna be loose well all who tasted the „Dare-Devil” – „Fenegyerek” selection of Pálinka from Zamárdi surely felt the succulent fruit flavors. Gábor Pach, one of the founders of the Balaton Circle, opened his pálinka distillery in 2014, but he calls it the Wellness Fruit Center. Gábor Pach has been dealing with pálinka over12 years, but he would not have thought at all that he would moor in this area, in fact, he didn’t particularly like pálinka. Then, through an old business relationship, he started working with the Zimek Pálinka Distillery and was completely enchanted by this world. He completed all the training related to pálinka in Hungary, but he actually learned a lot in practice. At the Zamárd plant he still practices the cooking of mostly fruits around Lake Balaton. Was a real pálinka oasis, on the spot to taste almost complete offer of Fenegyerek pálinka and Gin … such as: blueberry, apple, married with apple+raspberry, peach, quince, grape, grape+late cherry. Every sip was exploding and powerful. Tasted a couple and must say Gábor Pach’s pálinka deserves to be known not just in Hungary and/or Europe but overseas as well. Succulent fruit world – wizard of man.  The COVI-DINKA pálinka within the series of “Dare Devil – “Fenegyerek” bombastic within 73% Alcohol. It is a booster of mix fruits. Furthermore, it is so strong that could probably kill the COVID as well :-). A guy who tasted the „Dare-Devil” „Fenegyerek” pálinka said „Leaps and bounds better than anything in showy boutiques or that you can find in a store. We made sure to get a few extra bottles to take back to Texas this time.”

The invited guests on board the ferry were invited to sample the region’s traditional and flavors.  On board the John’s Pub (Restaurant in Keszthely) served a mini mangalica burger with all the goodness of flavors, sweet potato bars, celery salad and various homemade sauces. Tasty cold appetizer were amazing, the salmon trout with beetroot remula and wasabi salad. Next to it, the Lavender Terrace – Balatonvilágos offered pistachio duck liver on top “ice cream” with a cake stick. The sweet tooth lovers made their day as the taste buds felt like being in heaven tasting the MóniSüti Confectionery – Gyenesdiás. The guest tasting plum pie and “Rákóczi” cottage cheese cakes along other sweeties. Walking along the fleet the eye caught the sight of the catfish ceviche of the Vocational Training Center – Siófok – could not resist offering their avocado slices, decorated with sprouts and burnt dough donuts and the pear-chocolate cream dessert.

The “Taste Around!” Lake Balaton following stations of the wine & gastro festival series will be on  October, 9. 2021 – Siófok, November, 6. 2021 – Kövestál, December, 12. 2021 – Balatonfüred, January, 29. 2022  – Zamárdi, February, 12. 2022 – Keszthely.

Immune Booster cocktail party with the Herbalife Nutrition was held at the Hilton Garden Inn Rooftop Budapest. The sight of the St. Stephen’s Basilica formed a beautiful view in the background to the speakers. A great autumn day with the ray of the sun was a perfect chose to the day.

Exercise, healthy diet, vitamins? How do you strengthen your immune system at the turn of the season? A cocktail party was held with the participation of experts and known influenza agents, where the results of the Herbalife Immune Booster 2021 survey were presented and participants had the opportunity to jointly prepare some healthy cocktails in a cocktail competition with Robert Ollári star mixer!

The results of the Herbalife Immune Booster 2021 survey were presented as part of a round table discussion. The conversation was moderated by Barbara Russian – television presenter. Other participants: Annamária Porkoláb-Minarik – psychologist, Reni Tolvai – singer, Jucus Szabó – gastroblogger, Dávid Baranya – dancer of “Dancing With the Stars”.

A thoughts or two from from the round table discussion … “Long-term results require hard work. So we do not promise you a quick victory. What we promise, however, is a strong support system, honest guidance and advice as needed. So you can say yes to doing what you can and getting the best out of yourself!” These were the opening words.

Continued the presentation saying, their products have been developed to support in achieving the person goal … be they simple goals or even very complex. Whether wish to reach the personal ideal weight and/or want to increase performance or for those going to the gym regularly, there are guidance and advice for each individuals. Their products included protein shakes, dietary supplements, moisturizing products, sports nutrition solutions. The first step is several times the hardest towards a better and healthier path! May start anytime, any day the journey to a healthier life today!

At the end there was a Herbalife Cocktail Competition – made with healthy ingredients along with invited guest and speakers.

Violinist Vengerov says his heart and soul belong in Israel

After 11 years, one of the world’s greatest violinists – Maxim Alexandrovich Vengerov is a Russian-born Israeli violinist, violist, and conductor. He is called “one of the greatest violinists in the world.

He will take the stage again at the Kodály Center @ the City of Pécs – Hungary – Featuring: Maxim Vengerov, Conductor: Gábor Takács-Nagy … Brahms: II. symphony …Brahms: Violin Competition

The worthy celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Kodály Center was prevented by the corona virus epidemic in 2020, so the Festive Season will take place almost a year late from the autumn of 2021.
One of the highlights of the Festive Season is Zsolnay Heritage Management NKft. and the concert planned for October 25, 2021 in collaboration with the MÁV Symphony Orchester Foundation, featuring the jubilee MÁV Symphony Orchester in Budapest, celebrating the 75th anniversary of its founding. The concert is inaugurated by the fact that after 11 years, Maxim Vengerov will take the podium again, this time as a violinist.

In December 2010, the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra gave its first public concert under the direction of Maxim Vengerov at the newly opened Kodály Center.

Vengerov then said of the concert hall: “They say architecture is petrified music. Well, an architectural Stradivar was created here … ”. The concert hall, mentioned among the best in Europe, is anniversary this year, and one of the highlights of the Festive Season will be inaugurated by the fact that, after 11 years, one of the world’s greatest musicians, Maxim Vengerov, will take the stage again, this time as a violinist.
Maxim Vengerov is one of the world’s finest violinists, often referred to as the greatest string instrument player of our time. Born in 1974, he began playing the violin at the age of five. He was ten years old when he won first prize at the H. Wieniawsky International Competition for Young Violinists, and won the Carl Flesch International Violin Competition in London in 1990, and has been a concert violinist ever since. Already in the first years, he released several CDs, with which he won a multitude of record awards. He is also intensively involved in conducting. He teaches in many places, including the Menuhin Academy of Music in Switzerland and the Royal Academy of Music in London. Made in 1727, the “ex-Kreutzer” Stradivari plays the violin, with Jasha Heifetz’s former string.

The conductor of the concert is Gábor Takács-Nagy, who became world famous through the string quartet bearing his name. The quartet received scholarships in Colorado, USA, and its members settled there as well. Gábor Takács-Nagy left the band in 1992 and moved back to Europe, and has been living in Switzerland ever since, teaching at the Geneva Academy of Music. He has been conducting since 2002, and since 2007 he has been the music director of the Chamber Orchestra of the Verbier Festival (Switzerland), and his concerts feature world celebrities. Since 2011 he has been the lead conductor of the English band Manchester Camerata. He was the leading conductor and artistic director of the MÁV Symphony Orchestra from 2010 to 2012, and is currently the permanent guest conductor of the orchestra.

During the opening celebration of the B&B Hotel Budapest City, the CEO talked about the history in time of the B&B birth up till this latest new opening, starting with the birth of the B&B saying, was established in the hotel chain founded in 1989 by François Branellec of Galaxie SA. The first hotels opened simultaneously in Brest and Saint-Malo 1907 in  Brittany, France. American crime – thriller –  documentary –  119 minutes – 2020

The film will arrive to Hungarian cinemas from October, 7. in its original language, with Hungarian subtitles.

An Oscar-winning director’s film arrives in cinemas as a kind of thriller – a combination of a documentary about the world-shocking Khashoggi murder titled “Dissident”. In 2018, one of the leading news in the world press was the case of a Washington Post journalist, Jamal  Khashoggi of Saudi Arabian descent, who disappeared without a trace as one of the most significant system-critical intellectuals in the Middle East after entering the Saudi Arabian embassy in Istanbul. His bride and Saudi emigrants from all over the world rushed to his aid to launch an investigation that revealed disturbing details about the brutal murder and the geopolitical entanglements behind it.

Director and Producer Bryan Fogel – who presents “Icarus”, the darkest side of professional sports and the doping scandals. won an Oscar for his film – he made a “thriller documentary” about the case.

“The Dissident” made its debut at the cult Sundance Film Festival and received many professional awards on its international festival tour, including the Hungarian Cinefest Miskolc International Film Festival competition program.

Britain’s most famous spy – No Time To Die – James Bond: Daniel Craig

MOM Park Cinema on Wednesday, September, 29., at midnight as part of the Grand Opening screening series, the long-awaited latest new Bond movie – NO TIME TO DIE – and Daniel Craig bids goodbye of 15 years as 007 in the Being James Bond.

Starring Daniel Craig, Ana de Armas, Ralph Fiennes. Director Cary Joji Fukunaga. Age limit Not recommended for people under the age of sixteen. Duration 2 hours 43 minutes. The premier screenings of the Bond film can be attended with a standard cinema ticket, the armband is not valid.

Synopsis: James Bond enjoys life in Jamaica. His peaceful days ends when his old friend, CIA Felix Leiter, shows up and asks for his help. The goal is to rescue a kidnapped scientist, but the mission turns out to be much riskier than expected. The 007 follows in the footsteps hot on trail of a mysterious villain in possession of a new, dangerous technology. (NO TIME TO DIE has been the most anticipated movie of 2020 and was originally going to release at around April 2020, then COVID ‑ 19 hit and the movie was postponed to November 2020 then it was postponed again to April 2021.)

Viewers of the midnight screening will be among the first to see it in Hungary. The national cinema premier will only begin on Thursday, September, 30. 2021.

The Grand Opening starts from 6 p.m. awaiting the audience with Hollywood cult films and iconic concert films, such as: Jurassic Park (1993), Godfather (1972), Back to the Future (1985), Apocalypse Now (1979), Indiana Jones and the Marauders of the Lost Ark (1981), Total Recall (1990), Forrest Gump (1994) and Actually Love (2003). The opening day program also includes three concert films: Depeche Mode’s highly successful musical documentary Spirits in the Forest (2019), a film about the Queen’s legendary 1986 concert in Budapest, and a real rarity, Pink Floyd’s early 1972- His live film Live at Pompeii.

On Thursday, September 30, CinemaMOM is open to cinema fans every day of the week. The premium cinema experience is provided by state-of-the-art digital projection, restored image and sound technology. With the renewed MOM Cinema the audience may enjoy their seat in comfortable armchairs. The cinema’s ground-floor buffet, offers and serves as a bar and café and also an expanded menu.
The films are projected with digitally restored image and sound. The selection program can be visited with an armband, which is valid for the screening of all cult and concert films.  The tickets can be purchased on site from 4 p.m. on the opening day – discounted price 3000HUF. To complement the cinematic experience, the Bowling Club will continue to be available and will be back soon after a short period of technical maintenance.

The Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music is a music university and a concert hall in Budapest was founded in Hungary, on November, 14. 1875.

The performances of two young musicians in their thirties, who have already recorded many successes, make the season-opening concert of the MÁV Symphony Orchester memorable. Conductor Gábor Káli finished his studies in Budapest, which began in Budapest. In 2018, he won the Hong Kong International Conducting Competition and then also won the Nestlé and Salzburg Festival Conducting Competition. An internationally renowned conductor, he has achieved tremendous success at the Salzburg Festival, France, Germany‘s most prestigious opera houses and concert halls, Poland, Singapore, Finland, Ireland and, of course, Hungary.

Pianist Marcell Szabó graduated from the Academy of Music in 2012, winner of several international competitions. The concert presents a kind of cross-section of Russian music: Tchaikovsky composed in 1888 5.his symphony evokes the heyday of great romance. Alexander Scriabin in the XX. one of the major composers of the age leading to the music of the 19th century – his only piano concerto was presented in 1898. And Shostakovich struggled in the horrific conditions of the Stalinist Soviet Union to create – the imprint of this age is the Festive Overture composed in 1954.

175th Anniversary of the Lake Balaton Shipping Day

Saturday, September 18, 2021 on the occasion of the 175th anniversary of the Balaton Shipping Day (organized by the BAHART – Balaton Shipping Ltd.) has come to the series of events ending this year’s of the summer shipping season. Due to the closing in honor to the history of Balaton Shipping, from the port of Siófok at 7.30 a.m. on board invited VIPs, special guest, media representatives to the St. Nicholas motorcyclist and onwards to Balatonfüred to welcome, take part in the inspection of the line up to all the fleet of ships.  (In brief about: St. Nicholas motorcyclist, has a capacity of 550 people. This ship is the biggest on Lake Balaton. It actually replaced the former Beloiannis, which was in service on Lake Balaton until the late ’90s and was then scrapped. The ship sailed every day during the summer season departing at 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. When She was out of the system the shipping company planed to be replaced. Thereafter, St. Nicholas arrived to Lake Balaton from Istanbul in 2003 and was released into the water in 2006.)

Upon arrival to Balatonfüred greeting speeches followed by Miklós Mod – Deputy CEO – Representing the Hungarian Tourism Agency Ltd., Dr. Károly Kontrát – Member of Parliament, Mihány Witzmann – Member of Parliament, Dr. István Bóka – Mayor of Balatonfüred, Gábor Veigl – CEO of BAHART and thereafter flag raising took place. After the greeting speeches and flag raising in connection with the 175th anniversary was held the Széchenyi Memorial Ceremony on the Tagore Promenade, wreath-laying at the Széchenyi statue on Tagore promenade.

The 175th anniversary ceremony continued with the lined up, infront of the shore of Balatonfüred BAHART’s fleet … 18 passenger ships and ferries, ships belonging to other Lake Balaton shipping companies, and passenger shipping companies among them from private shipping companies were also present at this celebration. The fleet arrived upon the smooth waves to Balatonfüred from Csopak and stood lined up side-by-side on the Hungarian Sea in front of Tagore Promenade forming a picturesurous view of the 750 meters long line with their noses towards the promenade. An indescribable spectacle greetings saluting to the welcoming VIP visitors, invited guests and media representatives on board the St. Martin ship. Whilst the standing audience on the port welcomed ships by waving – applauding. The audience on the port whom could not be close to the spot to follow the awesome scene of the line up were able to watch the spectacular sight through the giant projector placed at the port of Balatonfüred.The Tagore promenade and the pier at Balatonfüred were absolutely full by visitors interetsed to watch the ships go by.

The István Széchenyi sailing memorial competition, which bypassed the peninsula also was added…. „Steadfastness, depth, accuracy, this is what characterizes geniuses, this is what characterized István Széchenyi to whom we owe many other merits to modern shipping. He wanted to connect the capital with the countryside.  He brought a lively life to Lake Balaton as well” – said by István Bóka – mayor of Balatonfüred at the ceremony.

The boats lined up at the port of Balatonfüred provided an unforgettable awesome sight. A total of 33 watercrafts and passenger ships lined up on the water surface. As the ships roll by, colorful smoke columns shot from the water surface also was amazing…(see snaps)

This was a one time event, a real curiosity, as a large-scale parade of ships can only be seen every 25 years! So those who missed it may come around next time to view the ships roll by in 25 years from today.

Highlighting a couple of ships … each of the 33 ships have an interesting history, yet to update of all the lined up 33 ships would be a very long reading, therefore will only talk about a few. Starting with a total of 4 watercraft on the Lake Balaton. As was told on the spot, the Kossuth Lajos ferry was built ’64 at the Balatonfüred shipyard, and later in the ’80s ship was extended with the funding of the army and a double-density ribbing was installed in the part below the carriageway.

There were two prominent representatives of the nostalgia fleet… „Kelén” and „Helka”. The iconic watercraft got their name from the love couple of András Fáy’s fairy tale “Sió”. Both ships were built in year 1891, practically separated from the water for three months. Both ships Kelén and Helka were sinked during 1945 in their shipyard by the crew, cause did not want the German aircraft hit them by bombing them. The crew was confident that after the front will be retreated and be again on the Lake Balaton. Counting the years in service means today in 2021 they are 130 years old, so these “grannies” are the oldest ships regulary operated at Lake Balaton. Both are ships with a capacity of 120 people and are 35 meters long. By-the-way, Helka in the late’70s served as a restaurant ship on the port at Balatonfürdő again until ’92.

Not only the smallest, active but certainly famous boat named “Luszi” also roll the waves at Lake Balaton. She is to transport passengers all year around. This boat is operated by a private shipping company, BL YachtClub.

Last come the presentation of awards and announcement of the results of the BAHART 175th anniversary art competition, whereas awards were presented to the winners previously selected jury of five.

The largest walkable underground Roman archeological site in Hungary

Within the Zsolnay Light Festival Pécs 2021 a press conference afterwards was held an awesome guided tour “Back in Time” at the Cella Septichora Visitors Center – UNESCO World Heritage Site (Early Christian Tombs).

The UNESCO World Heritage List, which also includes the Taj Mahal, the Grand Canyon or the Great Wall of China, distinguishes between sites of outstanding cultural and outstanding natural value.

The Roman predecessor of the city of Pécs, the late Roman early Christian cemetery of Sophianae, was inscribed on the UNESCO list in 2000 as a World Heritage Site.

The 1600 year old painted tombs lay under the structor at Cella Septichora Visitor Center.

Center you can see the graves and tomb structures that form the complexity of the late Roman period, partly early Christian cemetery. The greatest value lies in the large number of partially painted hypogeums and their historical, fine and religious diversity.

Late Roman cemeteries in the northern and western Roman provinces generally did not have significant burial sites built of stone. Here the graves were composed by the use of sandstone. The peculiarity of the Roman Christian cemetery of Pécs, formerly known as Sophianae, is that a large number of such buildings are concentrated here. These are small, family tombs and larger community tombs, cemetery structures. Some of them are painted, their interiors are decorated with biblical scenes and early Christian symbols, which further enhances the collective uniqueness and universal cultural value of the memory.

The burial chamber was mostly a burial place for wealthy families. The underground part of the two-part edifice is the crypt, the actual tomb, where the dead were placed in brick tombs, or less commonly in sarcophagi. Few objects were found in some of the tombs, such as coins from that age, copper jewelry, different size of Roman soldiers belt buckles, and glassware. A memorial chapel (memorial, mausoleum) was erected above it. The two-story structures served a dual purpose: they served both as burial sites and for ceremonies.

The paintings in the tomb are partly surface-filling decorations and partly figural representations. The remaining series of frescoes basically consists of two parts; on the north wall is the fall of Adam and Eve, the prophet Daniel in the pile of lions, and finally the motif of the tree of life. In the axis of the east wall, under the ceiling, the symbol of Christ, the so-called we see a cryogram. In the cabin below is a torso of a red-dressed figure sitting on a throne surrounded by wheat ears and a palm branch.

Just a reminder … The City of Pécs is an ancient city in southern Hungary, close to the Croatian border. Founded by the Romans, it’s known for its architectural landmarks such as the Early Christian Mausoleum, which features frescoed tombs. Vast Pécs Cathedral towers over central Szent István Square. The domed Mosque of Pasha Gazi Kasim was built in the 16th century during the Ottoman occupation of the city and is now a Catholic church
