This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Oxigén Hotel & Zen Spa  on the  Szomolya Road  at Noszvaj!

Noszvaj’s logo … „The best fresh air settlement in Hungary”

Just a short drive away from the nosy Capital, the press individuals were previously invited to participate to-day at the presentation held in the light of introducing the 4star Oxygen ZEN Hotel & Spa, at the settlement at Noszvaj. The hotel opened its door in August, 2012. In deed, we are talking about a hotel, very young at age, yet already have had recently received 3 professional awards. The press members were welcomed by: Dr. Zsolt Nyitrai, parliamentarian, describing within figures of the tourist developments in the region, adding the development of the hotel was built from apart of EU funds. Also the Assistant Secretary of State for Tourism talked about the increasing figures showed by the visitors to have had come to the Oxygen ZEN Hotel & Spa, underlining the increasing number of visitors of domestics, foreigners staying, working in Hungary. Tamás Farkas, managing director of Oxygen & Zen Spa Hotel introduced the professional awards and the Interior designer, Zoltán Varró talked about how an 100 years old cottage was formed into a comfy British style cottage. The company was honored to have the two mayors Péter Fodor of Nostvaj and from the neighbouring settlement István Guczi of Szomolya being present at the event. Within the presentation we were told about the original building, which was built by the Gallassy family in the nineteenhundreds. We learnt the building stood for some time as an empty place, but seeing the green woods around the territory with the gorgeous nature life, the dream for the family owned hotel came true in creating by converting the “haunted” cottage into a family friendly hotel. It was spiced up in-and-out, keeping the outer original walls, building an additional storey, and having the far-east unique Spa touch of ZEN bringing a spiritual world to Noszvaj. Yes, here we are speaking about a very young at age hotel, yet already have had received 3 awards “The Best New Small Hotel Construction & Design” – International Hotel Award. The country’s most popular hotels in competition which is annually held in Hungary, finished in the third place and received the Real Estate Development Excellence Award. The third award was received as the Best Accommodation of the Year. The English style, designs, furnitures and facilities on the spot testified the planning, design and implementation were in good hands, kept the British elegance. The hotel’s owner also have kept in mind of having to have built accessibility facilities for Disabled Guests. Some figures of the Oxygen ZEN Spa Hotel, as we were told: The hotel has 50 English country-style rooms. Most of them are standard double rooms that can be interconnected, if necessary making it comfy for families arriving with babies and/or children. The hotel has 12 suites. Later built on the top an extra floor having 9 special rooms. These have tubs for two beside the wide windowsill, having a secular view of the landscape, rich in woods, that lays just in front of the guests having reserved at these rooms. In deed, wandering around the premises, corridors, spa center, cosy small chatty premises was as being at one of the cottages in Great Britain. Seen it wasn’t a secret from where the inside design idea came from. The owner of the hotel was as to bring a little British feeling for the locals and of course the foreigners rolling over from UK to feel a bit like being at home, but at the same time enjoying the Hungarian hospitality, food delights and to get to know the regions special wines, which are already pretty known around the world: the Bull’s Blood from Eger. Something new to learn about Noszvaj beside the Oxigen Zen Spa Hotel is the De la Motte castle, the outbuildings of Louis XVI. style, built by John Povolny in 1774 and 1778. Also for many yet unknown is the jummiest „Noszvaj’s purpil plums”, producing pálinka and thick plum jams are from the Fruitville of Noszvaj. As mentioned the hotel stand on the Szomolya Road and regarding to Szomolya, it is a place worthwhile to visit while staying at the hotel. Just a short drive from Noszvaj. The why and what this settlement is famous of can be read at a previous update: https://rollinginbudapest.com/2013/06/10/szomolya-cherryville-festival-as-the-locals-say-we-are-the-cherry-republics-capital/

So we heard, the Oxygen Hotel & Zen Spa filled with pleasure and leisure. unfortunately, the lack of time made our visit short, so we couldn’t see all the goodies hotel holds, but were told about its services during the presentation, as the hotel’s main goal was to form a baby and children-friendly hotel. To-day’s hotel visitors are much looking forward to splash into a pool, therefore, the wellness and cure center was an important fact in developing the hotel. Visited the ZEN Spa, a real spiritual place, has what it takes for mind, body and soul! It is tailored in a spirit of oriental atmosphere, low authentic meditation music, enlightening the atmosphere by bringing over the feeling from Japan with the original Japanese style spa and steam room.

At the ZEN Spa the guest can get acquainted with the Japanese Tea Ceremony which has centuries-old tradition in the Japanese custom. A special way of expressing togetherness. Based on an old tradition, a certain Dzsuko Murata (1423-1502) has drawn up the rules for a tea ceremony, which today is known as “csanoju”.The csanoju played a major role in the cultural and artistic life of the Japanese people. Within keeping this tradition, cleans the soul and show guidance to live together with the nature. The tea ceremony purpose is to have peace in ourselves, to clean the soul and a guidance to live together with the nature.

Many sporty activities in-and-outside just lays in front of the guests. The wintertime holds back a bit being outside the surrounding premises, rolling on a Fairy Tale Road, that can easily be reached by bike, hiking and visiting the cave dwellings as an optional program offered by the hotel’s staff. The staff thought of having two separate Restaurants, one for the couples of all age, the other for families arriving with babies not to disturb the hubby couples. Whether coming from the UK, or any other part of the World, there are rascalities that will definitely catch the eye: darts, sitting in the “dock” of the sauna, relaxing and meditating, dipping the body in the Turkish steam bath, outside with tennis rackets and balls on the tennis ground. Before and after the presentation we were invited to taste the region’s famous, high quality wines, brought by the winemaker from the Cellar Thummerer and the Archbishop Almagyar Vineyards.  The organizers made sure the press individuals not leaving the venue starving, and were welcomed to taste their unique lunch served everyday at the hotel. The chief was marvelous with the delicacies, hardly having words, indescribable the rich in flavors, just like granny’s home-made cooking.

Was a bit envy for those guest who were staying there and while we were present saw, foreigners coming from Slovakian, Germany and of course Hungarian guests upon arrival couples and families with kids as to spend their week-end here at the Oxygen Hotel & Zen Spa … Jolly-Good for them!

A smile answers with a smile! Even for a short time made you feel relaxed before having to rush to catch up with your day. Welcome, cocktails,  appetizers came first, then came great bits-and-peices Indian style of yums and cocktails a’la India Style shaken, not stirred by the Head Bartender, but first things first …

Act two …  Managing Director Mr.Zulkarnain Saer Khan, from Bangladesh  gave a short introduction of the house saying, Quote: ““India is very diverse: every state has its own traditions, regarding culture and gastronomy. What unifies all Indian dishes is the spices that bring them their characteristic fragrance and flavor. Outside this beautiful country, one particular word, the curry became synonymous with Indian food. Indeed, ‘curry powder’ is a key ingredient of Indian dishes. Indian dishes that are now available, at their best, in town, as Budapest’s newest Indian restaurant Curry House opened on October 5, to introduce authentic Indian dishes from ALL OVER India.  The Curry House creates contemporary and delectable dishes which are hand crafted and have been attained through the use of carefully sourced ingredients, using the finest range of natural and traditional South Asian ingredients and classic cooking techniques.”  Were also told, that the idea behind Curry House comes from the owner’s one and half years of personal research on South Asia: Indian, Pakistani, Bangladesh restaurant business in the CEE Region. He has long-term plans with Curry House. He would like to see the brand become a household name in the CEE region. By the year 2020, he is willing to open his Curry House restaurants in five other countries beside Hungary. Regarding plans for the future here at the Curry House, we were told they ain’t hiding any recipes for those folks interested in cooking the Indian way. The Curry House has plans in introduce cooking classes in the near future.  Also he is having second thoughts in opening two more Curry House in Budapest. One more here on the Pest side and one over the River Danube at the Buda side. Not yet known the whereabouts. To trigger our interest and appetite we found out have daily menus which flies the guests from over Mumbai to Calcutta, from Himachal Pradesh to South India on a culinary tour. Talking about the references, well he has many: the Sofitel Dubai, Dubai Marine Beach Resorts and The British Club in Abu Dhabi.  Head Bartender  Mr. Saurabh Mathur , from India was trained by the finest professionals. He has worked for the Hard Rock Café Mumbai, Rock Bottom Dubai, MGM Macau Hotel, Dubai Marine Beach Resorts and Rotana Group before joining the Curry House team. The Chef  Mr. Shyam Shrestha, from Nepal goes straight to our gustation in tasting. The yummies with their special spices were out of this world. He knows how to make food to perfection: fresh and ‘desi’ (very Indian).  It’s important that he serves halal meat only … For those who are not familiar what the word halal stands for, he said it is an Arabic word that means permissible and in terms of food meaning food that is permissible according to Islamic law.

Act three: After the presentation by Mr. Zulkarnain Saer Khan, the press representatives were invited to have a seat and shortly we all were Rolling in India on a gastronomy route in having a taste of the varieties of the house. Came the fabulous lunch buffet by very attentive service of the staff and their smiles were catching. I think it’s pretty fair to say this is so far the best Indian Food Place in Budapest. The quality meals, the wall painting, decorative elements on the wall, the inside atmosphere is just superb. Added to the India feeling was the low Indian music, well packed to enlose a bit your day. Talking about the food, have a word or two of the fillings in  the tasting bowls … at first the warm bread, for the bread lovers had the pleasure to taste the Naan. thereafter, busy hands brought the irresistable tasty Chicken Saag which were served in a traditional beautiful Indian bowls, just like the spinach with potatoes and, the Basmati rice … the Basmati rice makes the rice hater go back for thirds! We were in good hands when it came to drinks. Beside the cocktails, soft and fresh fruit drinks  the house has some nice India beers as the premium beer: COBRA … Mind you have a look at the bottle before putting it down. Gosh, images on the bottle reveals of an excellent designer.

The staff is a bunch of international folks, so forget the language problems here in Budapest.

From now on needn’t have to stumble upon to find the yummiest Indian food in Budapest. Hopefully, the update will interest many in the future to want to find out to see on their own and taste the delicious Indian food here close to the Downtown in Budapest.

Food is great, lots of smiles, personal attention, good folks and staff is friendly… Need anything more!?!

All I can say is yum!

SIXTH CRAFT HUNGARIAN FLAVORS FAIR – NOVEMBER, 2013.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Hunting Horn opening at the sixth craft Hungarian  flavors fair.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4H4dhnDqUU

This year the main stars at the fair’s stand will be the wild game meat and  fish!

District II., Millennium Park – Budapest – November, 8-10.2013.

At the  3days fair, all will find what their taste satisfies them, that’s for sure!

The Bestillo” Pálinka House: The House brought a wide variety of pálinka to the fair. The pálinka is produced from all the fruits growing in the area. Wish to pick one out from the stand, which was the apricot pálinka from the Gönc. It’s unique by itself. Not just because it is classified by the Codex Alimentarius Hungaricus, but of many apricot palinka prepared in Hungary the apricot pálinka from Gönc is absolutely rich in taste and in sence is simple like biting into a fresh ripe juicy apricot in the summertime. The area where the apricot grows is one of the best area in the North of Hungary. The apricot pálinka from Gönc received in 2006 the Champion award. Beside the apricot pálinka, the half cutted apricot jams were also to be taste and purchased. During the gloomy, mist winter days, the ray of the sunshine within these fruits are bottled and has a deep reminder of the fruits  tasted on the past hot summer days. The surrounding area also has plantation of the dark color plums from which also are producted pálinka and the black heavy plum jams … so was told by the lady at the stand.

„Tokaj-Hegyaljai” Wine Jams: The world-famous Tokaj wine and the wines from the hills at Tokaj are characterized by two different grape varieties, the Furmint and Lime leaf. The wonderful jams are cooked for 5Hs  together with 7 natural ingredients and  are thickened with pectin, then after bottled without any ingredients. For those who love the taste of the Tokaj wines surely met the flavor within the pure herb soft drink products at the fair. no ingredients. Definitely a refreshing new winery taste bottled in the jams and juices. Tokaji Furmint grapes and made wine, lime leaves, boiled for about 5 hours, 7 main agent flavored and thickened with pectin.

The pumpkin seeds oil, known by locals at Őrség, (Western Hungary, just a few kilometers from the Austria border), as the gold of the area. Producing traditionally hot-pressed pumpkin seeds, walnut, hazelnut oil and by cold pressed are: walnuts, pumpkin seeds, grape seed, flax-seed, apricot seed, poppy hip. The visitors at the fair were able to taste these oils and purchase them. As I found out from Pál Batha, long ago the pumpkins was grown to feed the animals in the wintertime, not really paying attention to the pumpkin seeds oil. To-day, pumpkin seeds oil was promoted, it comes first. Within its richness among other things, is ultra-rich in vitamins, immune-boosting as well-being consumed.

Are many honey stands to stop by, have a taste of the Typical Hungarian Honey Varities, such as  the Acacia, Lime, Silkweed, Sunflower Rape and many others collected by the buzzing bees around the rich bloom fields, hills, hillside, forest territories  of Hungary. In the ancient times the Greeks believed that honey originated from celestial dew. To-day as many may know, honey is one of the natural food which collected by bees and one-by-one made from floral nectar. Bees collect the  sweet nectar in their honeybags, the visitors also collected some bottles at the fair in the carrybags.

Was delighted to see, the winner of the products  from the last,  the 5th  Hungarian home-made arts and crafts fair to be present this time at the 6th fair with their regular and new products. So visiting the stand of the products of  Katalin and Árpád Török from Ada – Serbia  is a wonderful reminder and  gaining experience of the old market days when the audience stop by to taste the eye-catching bottles, jars  filled with  heavenly  flavors of fruits, nectar, the “miracle” blackberry wine vinegar. (Probably not an exaggeration to mention that the world’s most powerful fat-eater is the mulberry vinegar) ,  the hand-made quince jelly, which is typical Hungarian delight and many kind of medicinal herbs provided by nature. All the jams are prepared with  cane and many are without for Diabetics.

Beside the pálinka and wines from Hungary, the Hungarians are also fond of drinking the well-know regular brands of beers. Now-a-days the beers are on a new platform by adding natural fruit flavors. Young and elder folks are beginning to enjoy beside  or along the Pilsen type lager and the heavy dark beers to have a jar of  Sour Cherry, Strawberry, Plum, Sour flavored beers. A couple of these flavors were present at the fair by the Békésszentandrási brewery.

Talking about the beers … Coming to be in favor, especially in the season we are heading to when the chilly weather is around every corner the “Köleses” Mullet Beer is just what we need. Wonderful selection of spices in the Köleses Mullet Beer. Came out with a new brand, the he semi-dark mullet beer which is also now  on  available . As the owner  “Bandus” told me they are full year around search, testing, strive to traditional recipes and to find the basic ingredients to be in use. By drinking the hot or cold mullet  beer, all may be certain they are on the right track to have a healthy sip.

The hand-made  “sweetbox” were not missing and available for the visitors. The well design boxes already had  the sign of the season of gifts to come soon. Also chocolates to bring the atmosphere of Xmas.  Many know  the life, times and music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, but here bat the fair another side to introduce the famous musician was  all-in-all  related to  the hand-made sweets marked with the name of Mozart , and “Sissi” the  Empress of Austria, Queen of Hungary photograph on the chocolate boxes.

Since the hunting season is on,  the hog, wild boar deer in many forms were present by the producers. Other delicious delights as goose, duck, trout,  the famous Békéscsabai sausages, smoked meats  were available to purchase throughout the three-days fair.

As we humans say … “the dog is man’s companion”, but  as  for László Sáfrány (Mr. Saffron), as he said for him is the trout! Mr Saffron at Szilvásváradi is the trout farm owner. He built the first fish smoke house in Hungary and in the beginning only had freshwater trout, then later on other even saltwater fish as well was available on the spot.

First occasion to the fair  Ms. Emese Csíki brought her special tea and spices, from Szentábrahám – Transylvania. You can taste, you can even buy several different types of tea and spices on the spot.  She and her two sons brought dozens of medicinal herbs to familiarize, taste the flavors ripened by the sun from her Flowerville.  Opening a pack you can really smell the scent of the fresh herbs and see the leaves  one-by-one, no grinding.

Last but not least couldn’t end the update with leaving out the VitaBox, family owned producers fill each-and-every card box whether 5 liter or 2 litre packs with the 100% natural fruit juice. Freshly squeezed, just like biting into the fruits itself. No additional material is included!  This season they came out with a new flavor, a mixture of apple, carrot and beetroot all in one fruit box. A  wide flavor selection was out for tasting for the visitors. Edit the owner didn’t allow anybody to pass the stand before not having a taste of these nutritious delicious fruit drinks.

ONLY MENTIONING A COUPLE OF PRODUCTS TO GIVE A SLICE OF THE 180 EXHIBITORS, WHICH BY-THE-WAY WOULD HAVE TAKEN LIFETIME AS TO UPDATE ALL OF THEM!

WELL THAT’S ALL FOLKS …

SEE … BE AT THE NEXT  …  7TH CRAFT HUNGARIAN FLAVORS FAIR IN 2014.
