THE SPIRIT OF SHAKESPEARE ARRIVED TO THE CITY OF GYULA – HUNGARY 2014.

During the early afternoon hours on Thursday, July, 10 the Shakespeare Globe theater and the Baltic theater held a press call at the Directorate of the Castle Theater held by Director József Gedeon. Both theater members were present. The Globe members said they are on tour a European tour with the play.  Mainly have their production outdoor, at castles, at  venues at buildings, courtyards with past historical  backgrounds.

To Be or Not to Be  … that is the question, but he the To Be was the main question by asking the actors how did they decided to be Shakespearean. Simon Bubb  (playing as  Benedetto)  said, originally he got in love with the film and watched it over-and-over again and decided this is his chapter to join the Globe.  This coming evening’s play they had four months of rehearsal. This is the second time on stage at Gyula during the Shakespeare festival. The members of the St.Peterburg Baltic House Festival Theater with the world-famous Belgian Luk Perceval director of Macbeth were also present. They brought to show a twist of  Macbeth by their own interpretation. This year since May, they have had been playing three occasions Lady Macbeth and the role is played by a young very talented actress who just graduated from college.  Wasn’t present ont he day at the evening’s play, but heard it was the best performance beside the Globe theater’s production.  By-the-way …the City of Gyula can already be considered as bringing the Shakespeare’s spirit again to the City at Gyula. Unfortunately, could not entirely follow through the way at the festival. Only spent an overnight by choose to be at the London’s Globe theater’s performance at Gyula the 600 years old castle’s courtyard. Undoubtedly, was a sensation performance of having the experience to go back-in-time with the piece at this stunning open-air theater.

On Thursday, July, 10 was a hot date as the Xth Shakespeare festival started with “Ado About Nothing” directed by Max Webster. Before the play started the director József Gedeon stepped on the stage to welcome to audience having an umbrella in his hands and continued by saying: Q: „There are dark heavy cloud above us, but come rain it will not disturb the play. Then will be a break and if it will rain for 2 or 3 hours, no problem cause as  the rain will stop falling down the play will continue … we have time. Wishing an enjoyable time to the Globe’s theater performance.”  Right said the director, because by the time for the break a sprinkle of rain arrived and after cca. 20mins the windy weather blew away the stormy weather … it decided not to interfere the play and our evening… observed the celestial spirit of Shakespeare!

The prose text had crossover music between the scenes … according to Shakespeare’s time, as the actors all played on instruments.

Of course there was Hungarian subtitles, even though the “Much Ado About Nothing” Shakespeare’s well known work is basically known by the audience. Was enjoyable for the ears to follow the accent spoken in the Shakespeare era. Basically the acting was playful with lots of music, an awesome, humorous production. Here’s a short reminder in brief to ring the bell of the 3hours play … “Leonato, Governor of Messina, welcomes the return of his soldier Don Pedro and his regiment from war. But all is not peaceful within Don Pedro’s ranks. His brother, Don John, still harbors anger for past acts and seeks the opportunity for revenge. Another of his men, Benedick, has taken up a verbal war with Leonato’s niece Beatrice. Despite this, Don Pedro hopes to unite the pair in a love match. And brave Count Claudio has fallen madly in love with Hero, Leonato’s daughter, and plans to marry her. Disgruntled Don John hatches a plan for revenge against his brother and Claudio, whom he also despises. He enlists the help of his companion Borachio and bribes young Margaret, Hero’s lady in waiting, to smudge Hero’s reputation by making it look like she has taken a lover. Claudio falls for the ruse and denounces Hero at the altar. Taking pity on the devastated bride, Friar Francis hides her away and enlists the aid of Leonato, who announces that his daughter has died of grief from the proceeding. Fortunately for Hero, Borachio is arrested while drunkenly boasting of his part in the plan. With Borachio’s confession, Hero is to be exonerated. Leonato demands a public apology from Claudio, then tells him that he will allow Claudio to marry one of his nieces in Hero’s place, a niece who happens to bear a striking resemblance to Hero herself! While Don John is arrested and meets an unhappy fate, Claudio and Hero are reunited and Benedick and Beatrice have set aside their war of words long enough to wed beside them.) Source from  Shakespeare Communities.

For many in  the audience who knew this play will be hosted by the Globe theater from London did not need a close-up of the text.  Overheard during the break the foreigners and locals having English language knowledge enjoy very much the play and was thrilled to be present. Must say … not too common thing to watch an English-speaking play in Hungary at all. Unfortunately, on both sides of the stage there were subtitle screen, but for many Hungarians without English language knowledge was not at all viewed from their seats, but overall the performance was the highlight of the festival.

It was a sold-out night and for those being present most surely had received a great theatrical experience.

Thumbs up for the City of Gyula and most of all for directory for keeping on in organizing for the Shakespeare lovers  for more than ten years the Shakespeare festival.

SHAKESPEARE FRINGE FESTIVAL – JULY, 10. 2014. – GYULA – HUNGARY

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The 10th Shakespeare Festival brought new blood into the circulation at Gyula with organizing for the first time the Shakespeare Fringe Festival, which basically gathers theatrical productions as dance, music, comedy all in action, held on the street. This time the performance was on the lawn area under a tent beside the Castle of Gyula.

„OR WHATEVER YOU WANT”

Presentated by the Studio of the Lajos Soltis Theater from Celldömölk.

Cast: Anna Boznánszky, Beatrix Hajba, László Sipos, Leticia Lang, Flóra Lestár, Mercédesz Marton, Ádám Piller, Franciska Stangl, Renata Varga, Gergő Szekér, Renata Varga, Veronika Mihácsi.

Directors: Agnes Benkő,  Zsolt Nyári

Grand selection of Shakespeare works interpreted in comedy and drama. In the audience were young children and folks of all age and in a very short time they got into the rhythm and seeing their reactions to the plays, surely had fun on the pieces.

The „Shakespop” was presented by 11 young adults being in their third-year studies at the studio of Lajos Soltis Theater.  They were presenting parts from Shakespeare’s drama, as: Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream.Thoughts were implemented, borrowed from R.D. Laing psychologist writings and from movies. Within their plays a selection of popular songs lyrics had been included expressing emotions. Deals with issues in collaboration, such as love, pairs living together, adoption, work conflicts, issues of acceptance of others.

Pieces of the theater performances have been recognized on several occasions and received several awards. For example at the XXIV. National Student Drama Festival  at Vasvár, whereas special awards have been given … Hamlet’s monologue by Balázs Szabó,  the quality of vocal music for the enforcement and original text handling. For director’s work the stakeholders were to Ágnes Benkő and Zsolt Nyári.

Had the pleasure to spend two-days at Gyula, and enjoyed being present on the first day watching the “new wave”  performance … whereas gestures becomes action. Good choice by organiser  to bring the Shakespeare Fringe in the frame of the Shakespeare Festival concerning it has not been  held previously anywhere in Hungary. It was a special treat.

For furthermore followup  on the Xth Shakespeare Festival can be soon spotted here concerning the following:  Sunday, July,10 attended at the press call having actors from London’s Globe theater to be playing „Much Ado about Nothing” and were also in the house the stuff and actors to be on stage with the freestyle Macbeth arrived from Petersburg Baltic House Festival, representing the National Theater, Balti House. Day 2… during  the early afternoon hours participated at the first day of the 2-days International Conference titled: „Is Shakespeare still our contemporary?”

CAMPUS FESTIVAL – JULY, 23-27.2014. – DEBRECEN

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Rolled over to Debrecen to be present at the press call announcing details to the forthcoming Campus Festival 2014. Let alone, it is still in its teens, yet a significant entertainment festival in the North-East part of Hungary.

campus_fesztival_kep.jpg (1)

Lajos Kósa – major at Debrecen welcomed the media representatives and opened his talk by going back to the year 2009 in recalling the time when the festival’s venue was moved from the Vekeri lake-side to the city’s Great Forest (Nagyerdő). Later, in 2011 became the major cultural event at Debrecen  in the line of festivals. In 2013, sixty thousand guests arrived to the Campus festival. This year hopefully this number will double  itself. The major was pleased to say the festival’s venue is dressed up with the new sport arena which went through a complete reconstruction, as well as the park’s forest. Boating on the lake with frogs croak filling the air can be also a timeout possession to the festival goers.

Péter Miklósvölgyi – festival director, said during the festival at the campus festival more than 200 events will take place. Visitors arriving to the  festival are welcomed by local, domestic and international productions of all sort of genres of music. The festival covers approximately 20 acres, whereas  theater, cinema, sports, humor, art, poetry, kids corner and gastronomy will be for all age at the fingertips to visit. Also added it is highly important that  the festival has finally found the ground a permanent location to arrange such a multiple event. From now on they can focus on inviting a number of performers, let alone the sponsors and visitors to join the festival. One of the highlights of the event will be performing and celebrating its 25 yrs. on stage the „Tank Trap” (Tank Csapda) Jubilee concert on July, 26. 2014.

Zoltán Szilvássy – rector – University of Debrecen added that this year, around 180 square meters of extra space was established by the University for the purpose  who wish to get into the science world during the festival. The University Square will introduce spectacular experiments … here is just a hint  … the flaming rocks and many more will catch the eyes of the festival visitors.

Upon the end of the press gathering followed the “grand” competition  between the invited sporty and musician members. Athletes and musicians pulled on their boxing glovers, of course theoretically in a competition named:  „ Game without no borders”  whereas their strength, their skills, stamina was needed. The  first competition was a challenge of „Beer tapping” . Then came the car “Wheel replacement” on a Polski Fiat 500 made vehicle, following the Slalom with the football and after the excitement came the laughter by the end when musicians, sport  athletics invited folks went into  “Blowing bubbles”.

So first things first … the two musicians from the Tank Trap band” Laci Lukács and Sidi undertook the „beer tapping” number, but when it came to timeout Attila Vajda – Olympic champion canonist was the beer tapping winner. Then came the Polski Fiat 500 made vehicle’s wheel change event. For the musicians took a little over six minutes to change a wheel. The measured time of replacement did not really have had come any close to the timing in the stables at the circus of Formula1. Of course there was a little twist in the job … the screws, screwed them up a bit. Here, too, namely Balázs Ladányi –  hockey athletes was the winner in that particular challenge. Not only has the ice-hockey puck, but he also has the touch to handle the screws properly … preformed better.

At the football  Slalom venue, two girls ventured, Kitti Kudorhandball player DVSC-TVP, undoubtedly handled the ball with great experience. Odette  – singer volunteered for the job, as she said before the match, many years ago tried to get into playing football. Both girls did well to tip the ball. Here Kitti Kudor led the football first into the net.  The day’s last „challenge” was to how big and far the colored soap bubbles can be led away. So by the end the happy-go-lucky game took part  with all the sporty and musicians being back in time as in their childhood era and having fun. Beside the individuals in the competition, others from the both teams as observers were present: Musicians:  Szabolcs Papp – Super No, Wolfie – Punnany Massif and Kowalsky and Vega musicianAthletes: Norbert Michelisz – Motorsport racing,  Eva Risztov – Olympic champion swimmer, Agnes Szilagyi – DVSC TVP handball player, Tibor Dombi – DVSC-TEVA football player.

Was a fine day, not just  the weather was in favor, because by the end of the programs dark, heavy clouds surrounded the area and later shocking rain poured not just at Debrecen but throughout the country.

Most probably those who will take part and time to be at the Campus Festival will enjoy every minute , see what the Campus Festival at Debrecen  has come up to for those rolling in Debrecen.

Unfortunately, there is no English link at the Campus Festival’s web page. Only an option to visit:  info@campusfesztival.hu … good luck!

7TH “VINAGORA” INTERNATIONAL WINE AWARD CEREMONY – BUDAPEST – 2014.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Wine Gala – official award ceremony

VinAgora was founded in 1992 and up to present it is considered to be in the World’s ten most respective international wine  competition.  During the competition Hungary was not the only the one representing numerous domestic wines, but  a significant number of bottles arrived (unfortunately, pitty without some of their wine makers). Hearing the numbers of participants from the foreigner countries and the number of bottles of wine in the competition made me feel as floating in a huge pond filled with wines. As it was told at the award ceremony, 19 countries have participated with 579 kind of different wines and within that number also a couple of champagnes.

The award ceremony’s announcement  took place at the New York Palace in Budapest. Locals and foreigner awarded wine makers took the so-called stage and received  congratulations  to their awards  from the founder Mr. Dr. Miklós Kállay – president of the 15th VinAgora International Wine competition and Mr. Zoltán Zilai – executive director of the wine competition  – organiser of the Hungarian Grape and Wine Culture NP Inc.

Mr. Dr. Miklós Kállay said: „Q” … „The first VinAgora competition was held in ’92. In those days there were only 119 competitors.  The competition is organized  every second year.  The development is pretty obvious because from the 74% of the wines competing were nearly one-third  from abroad. The samples: 44% of white wine, rose 7% to 32% of red wine, champagne and the so-called still wines. The competition is overseen by the members of the International Federation of Wine Competitions.”

Mr. Zoltán Zilai – executive director said: „Q” … “Was a huge task for the jury judging the high number of wines to give awards, medals of up to 30% of the wines entered in the competition.”

The VinAgora tournament welcomed wines from  Downunder (6 different Gatt wines receiving silver-and-bronz medals). Having a short chat with the representer at the Gatt table was as having a session about what is so unique of the Gatt wines. The young man told me the secret is in the Hallmark Barossa Shiraz‘s characteristic power and opulence origins from the vineyard  that grows in the heart of the Valley Sumptuous furthermore, the blackberry and Satsuma plum flavor on a long and generous palate with notes of licorice. Rodust structure and fine graphite tannins from 18 months in new American and French oak barrels.  He added saying it can be drink now or place it into a cellar for 15 yrs … oh well having to not have any cellar, so went for it on the spot and it was superb. 🙂

Not far from saying … Knowing the fact where Hungary geographically sits …  there is not any country in Europe where there is as much mineral hot water flowing under the ground … The Hungarian Gold!  Can be also be said … at the four corners of its territories has special soil which makes the vineyards  rich  and special tastes of wines, like nowhere else in Europe.   Heading back to the nineteen countries participating  at the international competition, three gold,  five silver medals and a special prizes was given this year to Uruguay’s Bodega Narbona winery Narbona Tannat Roble 2011 having the  title: “Country’s Best” … i.e.“The nation’s top wine”.  Not too much of a surprise,  the winemaker of Agrolaguna  from Croatia received three gold and three silver medals having in the competition twelve bottles of wines. In addition to the still white and red wines category, the entered bottles of champagne also received awards. Well recognised by the jury awarded with the Silver the  Aurora Brut Cardonnay – Serra Gaucha, from Brasil.

After the award ceremony …the tasting started … rolling around the long-and-wide tables, the invited media folks and shortly joining by the visitors having purchased their entry tickets, began the tasting show. The  floor was opened to the visitors from 2 p.m. till 8 p.m. where the estimated number of visitors throughout the day were around one thousand. During  the tasting at the same time with mainly the local wine makers anyone could have gone into a chat. They were curious to know by asking after tasting one-and-another wines, which one took the hook on them and then after they talked in-depth of that special year’s summer condition, the special soil of  the vineyard. Emphasizing the grapes scent and taste  dominant to the wine they are proud to present here at the VinAgora. Had to concentrate which are the wines preferring to taste, cause naturally even having a sip of couple and not all of the overall of 579 different wines which would have had been more than dangers!

Such competition is also a grand opportunity in learning the differences, whereabouts of a famous local and foreigner wine regions. They say in a competition there are always winners and losers. Here there were not any losers and most of all the visitors have had a chance to not just simply have a glass of wine but at the same time to know more about where it comes from and the manner it is produced and last but not least to meet the wine makers personally.

“VinAgora best Hungarian Type Wine” named “Olaszrizling” group by the Neszmély Szöllősi Winery. In 2011 “Melegeshegy Riesling” was awarded the prize and at the same time the winery was awarded as the “Most Successful Family Winery”  Five wines named after his family name has been awarded this year!  In 2013 “Rosé Cuvée Cabernet Sauvignon”, “Merlot” and “Gamay” blending by the Rose Mundial at Cannes – France, also deserved gold award.

Another excellent rosé wine from the Hungarian wine cellar of  Eva Gálné Dignisz has released. In the year 2013 she won the award with her Pinot Noir Rosé 2013.,  as the “Winemaker of the Year”.

AT THE EDGE OF 8000 METERS BY THE HUNGARIAN MOUNTAIN CLIMBER – DAVID KLEIN

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

It was David Klein’s Day on Monday, June, 10 at the press conference held at the Budapest Congress Center whereas coming back from the Earth’s highest point, sharing, giving in-depth an overview of his experiences whilst reaching the top of the World towards …onwards … upwards to the Csomolungma, which he had been his task to conquer the peak throughout the past 15 years. David brought own photos taken, on route attacking the Mount Everest. A little background before heading back to the press meeting … (The Csomolungma located on the border of Nepal and China, the world’s highest peak, 8,848 meters high. English name called by the mother mountain Sherpas in the world was the British George Everest, who performed measurements in the 1850s. First came up with a British expedition to the summit in1953.Hungary started to peak in 1996 when the first attack began, but the first Hungarian citizen who has reached the point was  Zsolt Erőss  in May, 2002. Apart from him, Anita and Attila Jelinkó also succeeded.  David Klein a total of seven times was up on the high mountain, but has not yet reached  the heights over 8,800 meters. At least five thousand individual climbers with the oxygen cylinder had climbed the Csomolungma, but not without the oxygen cylinder, however only hardly two hundred made it.)

Nutshell of David Klein … the 39-years-old climber since his childhood loved the highlands sports. Been climbing since the age of 13.  Reached his skills at home and in the United States. After graduating in high climbing in the Tatras mountain, then in 1998, Pakistan tried his first serious mountain peaks by climbing in Pakistan. During the coldest months, repeatedly besieged by Denali in Alaska. In 2004, first targeted the Himalayas on the Pipe Oju.

This year according to his plans, on April, 6, the Hungarian climber said goodbye to Budapest … Istanbul and a detour to arrive in Kathmanduthe. The expedition was sponsored by the Spar Everest Expedition Courtesy. The Hungarian climber David Klein wasn’t a beginner. He climbed 8-times before the Csomolungma, but this time his goal was to do it for first time without an oxygen cylinder … In 2005 the expedition to Csomolungma he faced bleeding and had to turn back. Most of the climbers trying to hit the top with oxygen cylinder. This time David Klein, however, tried it the hard way in clean climbing to the top point of 8,600 meters. Of course he took an extra oxygen tank just incase to have one sniff, but as he said, the goal is to live up to the top without it. For the maximum concentration to a brutal endurance, previously trainings were required in the last few weeks. He layed plans to reach Csomolungma to climb the north side on the standard road to Tibetan – China, than  to make the tour through Nepal, because there was much easier to obtain the necessary equipment. Took five days to reach the base camp of the 2012 expedition crossing glacier carves. The “warm-up tours” was the core of the body as to accustom, tolerable climbing, high mountain, in anoxic conditions. In such a situation one can hardly rest, therefore spent a lot of time at the base camp, especially when over being at 7,000 meters. The death zone is above 7,500 meters where the oxygen is getting lower and less to breath, blood flow slows down,  your hunger leaves you and drink only water, and if there is lack of water, can easily be fatal . This unbearable physical sense is a challenge, but to be in a few steps  in outer space is worthwhile for all the climbers in the world. As David Klein said, scarf, warm knitted head-gear is needed if you want to climb the highs of Csomolungma. David, the Hungarian climber manage without oxygen cylinder. From now on he is the ONE of the greatest figures in our time of history of high mountain climbers. Not because of updating his career into the date basis, but rather in his performance of climbing the Csomolungma without having to have the oxygen cylinder, so far no climber could make it. Climbing, reaching the 8000 meters is like Old Man and the Sea of Hemingway gripping out the Big Fish so he said. Continuing … there are only 14 high mountain climbers in the world to have had succeeded to target the highest point on Earth. David Klein also went to the point where probably his friend “Konyi” László Várkonyi had his last glance around mountain. visit.  David said Konyi was a great  friend not to be forgotten with whom he previously  climb the high mountain. Took a piece of rock with him to place it at the small plaque bearing Konyi’s name. David Klein did not wished to hunt the records, he took as a challenge in reaching the highest point in the World, but Before heading on the maximum concentration of a brutal endurance was a must so he said. Reaching the end to the press meeting, he added the following: Quote: „The Himalayan tourism began to take quite astonishing proportions in recent years. Until the year 2006, more than two thousand people went to climb the mountain. What is even more is shocking … nearly ten percent of the athletes died …  due to various reasons … during the climb up to the Csomolungma. A lot of the dead bodies are still out there not having to have been brought down to the base camp.”

David Klein told us many stories of his adventure which warmed up his heart in the cold-cold weather saying that the mounter climbers are one of a kind of big family, where you can meet on the way to the top of the world other nation’s climbers. This was on he shared by saying Quote: “Met an Australian climbing team. Greeting each other, they asked where I am from? Told them… ‘I’m from Hungary”. Then the Australian answered then you must be David Klein…right? David was surprised that how come he  was recognized having a  long beard, sunscreen glasses and the head-gear, absolutely unrecognizable.” The Aussie Bloke was high as to meet in person David. Heard about him already. The Australian climber said this is ONE reasons why it was worthwhile to come to the Himalayas to have met the already known by reputation the Hungarian mountaineer. That was really a treat for the modest David Klein.

JUDAFEST – 2014. A VENUE WHERE THE COLOR OF YOUR SKIN, NOR YOUR RELIGON DOES NOT COUNT

We all have one heart that is beating the same no matter of somebody’s practise of religion, nor color of skin.

The motto of the Jewish Fair was to show, draw attention to peaceful coexistence through the Jewish culture exciting programs.

Indeed after the previous year’s Kazinszy Street Fair to-day was a huge  gathering. As many may know in the past there were kosher restaurants, cafe, pubs, cake shops and the street has come back to its original venue lined up for visitors to ease their hunger and thirst, since this day finally turned into the real summertime weather with hot…hot…hot tempreture above the 30’sC. In the narrow street it become around to be in the 40’sC m or higher especially in the sun. The Street of Kazinszy was full of visitors to be present whereas Hungarian and Israeli music hit the streets with a multi-venue showcases. At the three major venues, were established and developing artists, featuring musical performances, latest well-known singers sharing the stage. Was a movie tent where many could wander back in time and see classical comedy artists who are long gone ahead, but where the highlights int he comedy business, just like László Kabos etc. Kids were really anxious in getting themselves painted with henna painting. Young and adults played tough matches at the table football. The Klezmer Band was highly appreciated and welcomed with cheers.

The Cari Mamma’s Kosher Pizzeria, worthwhile to visit on another day as well.  Their pizzas were simple heavenly, kind service and  fresh on the way to your table from the oven baked on open fire. You won’t be disappointed at all.

The size of the football gate was as at the real match 5 x 2 meter and the kids just couldn’t been taken away from their kicking the ball.

Approaching to the Football World Cup was a great opportunity for smaller and younger kids to give the goalkeeper goals, which brought them great joy. Maybe they will be the future’s Hungarian Ryan Giggs the Welsh football coach and former player.

Hungarian and Israeli music hit the streets with a multi-venue showcase of over 100 performers.
