Dates:  September,19-21.2014.

Venue: Vajdahunyad Castle at th City Park – Budapest

The time has come to visit the First Fish and Wild Game Meat Festival in Budapest whereas  an opportunity comes to the doorstep for visitors to taste the different regions seasoning of the  famous Hungaricum  – Fish Soup and other fish delights from the region of Hungary. The Carpathian Basin is still among the richest regions of  wild  game meat of wildlife in Europe. These wild game meat specialities as the pheasant , rabbit, venison, wild boar,  deer  will be cooked on the spot and worthwhile to taste if not all of them in one day then go back the next day and continue having more unique samples which  for many might not have at a regular daily meals.

Here in the coming three days go for it, see and learn how to cook a real Hungarian Fish Soup, but that is not all to gain during the 3-days. Beside the food of plenty, the professional craft breweries brought domestic and international beers, so need not have to go on a hunt to reach a pint of  a smooth beer of a kind to follow-up to pleasantly rinse the throat, of what else than a nice cold fresh craft beer, but if some like it hot, then may go for a shot of homemade Pálinka or go for the Hungarian wines to ease the thirst.

Outlining a couple of craft beers that brought attention … first of all the Kentucky brand as a beer caught the attention for many and stopped by the stand to taste what is it like, cause for many the Kentucky name is connected to the world-famous whiskies.  This year for the first time to arrive to Budapest’s attending at the Fish and Wild Game Meat Festival (also can be visited at the  Főzedefeszt – Street Food Fair on the Andrássy Boulevard) the home town of whiskiers at Kentucky.  Found out from the twin young ladies at the stand the following … the Alltech Lexington Brewery and Distilling Co. produce craft beers are in barrels and bottles. On the spot the visitors could have a taste draft beer on the tap of Kentucky Ale and the Kentucky IPA.  Bottled ones were out on display: Bourbon Barrel Ale, Kentucky Ale, Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Stout, Kentucky IPA and the Kentucky Kölsch. Once tasted the Alltech beers most probably  the true beer lovers will like what they have tasted. Just in brief a few words about the Alltech’s beer. Developed in 2000 by Irish entrepreneur Dr. Pearse Lyons – founder and president of Alltech. To-day become the brewery’s flagship brew, capitalizing on the brewery’s proximity to fresh Kentucky bourbon barrels. The unique barrel-aged seasonal series  and  has collected numerous awards. In 2012., the company became part of the world-renowned Kentucky Bourbon Trail® with the opening of its Town Branch Distillery, which crafts Town Branch® Bourbon, Town Branch® Rye, Pearse Lyons Reserve® malt whiskey Bluegrass Sundown® and  bourbon-infused coffee liqueur… now I bet this sounds already mouthwatering for the beer lovers.

The Original Paulaner arriving from Munich had a grand stand  and the Bavarian beer is already well-known by the Hungarians and foreigners from all over Europe  and foreigners visiting, staying in Budapest. The Hungarian fruity beer flavors  became rather popular by the young adults and many homemade beers produced with fresh fruits from the regions of Hungary.

For kids to make their day, hills of sweets and candies,  stands of toys, ice-cream, candyfloss and to learn about wild animals in the forest are booklets and lectures. Probably the most fun they had been riding the ponies. For young and elder folks  having timeout at the Flee Market  is a place where the  clock’s hand run faster than you can.

Summing up one of the days adventures at the 1. Fish and Wild Game Meat Festival, visitors to be coming out to the venue should not go on by, passing the Kentucky stand without tasting there the  heavenly beer.  Not really a beer lover, yet  by tasting, got me some of Kentucky craft beers for the rainy days … and as the old songs says … “I can’t stop loving you, its useless to say…”  Hurray Kentucky Beers to arrive to Budapest!

Throughout the two-day, the visitors rolling along the Boulevard  enjoyed the hustle and bustle hanging around  at the beer pavilions. Indeed the FŐZDEFESZT –  Street Food Show  has become our country’s largest culinary festival and no surprise anymore to be in the groove of the cacophony of Babel hearing so many foreigners enjoying their time and place in Budapest. Taking advantage of the location of the Főzdefeszt, a short ballet presentation was introduced  by the artists of the forthcoming ballet  at the National Opera House. Welcoming words greeted  the audience  by the director and invitation to the forthcoming  performance of the Trojan Games  ballet .

Busy hands welcomed as an old friend at the Mullet Beer pavilion.  The largest Hungarian beer punk Armando, the Brew Studios  Krisztina Zsoldos brewed the Dirty Saison  with great pride and told the visitors in between waiting for their beers … it is an interpretations, of  the old agricultural roots going back to the style of ancient evokes the spontaneity of three and four of hops  – yeast. Also the Gateshead Lados Brewery has long been hiding in the local interest  was present and the Caledonia Scottish Belhaven beers on tap were their for the thirsty beer lovers.

From Transylvania arrived to introduce the taste to the Cluj Clausenburger artisanal beers, liquors and the Salvator’s hunters bringing to taste the bearfoot meat.

Good beer and good food equal to and as fundamental democracy!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Enjoy a choice of plenty having a Royal Fest for a civic price!

During October 13  and 19. 2014.

The reservation starts off to-day!

The 50 Best Hungarian Restaurant” with a Michelin recommendation and 100 top mid-range restaurants as well.

To-day,  National Restaurant Week held a  press luncheon in the noontime at the La Perle Noire restaurant.  However, before speaking about the menu just in brief some thought shared at the press call, whereas András Gendur – La Perle Noire restaurant manager, chef – Péter Pataky  Károly Balogh – owner and chef of the restaurant ICON from Debrecen, Hubert Hlatky-Schichter  – owner and manager of the KIOSK restaurant in Budapest  and Zoltán Kiss – organizer “National Restaurant Week” – presenter recommending restaurants. During the announcement of the newly joining restaurants also  was mentioned about the whereabouts of the ingredients saying, from the veggies to the meat are all from homeland farmers  said by András Gender adding, this is a family owned Hungarian-French bistro restaurant, and regularly has wine stewards who are trained and knowledgeable wine professional. Károly Balogh – ICON Restaurant talked about the famous „Debreceni pair” sausage, saying Quote: „According to historians, the Debreceni sausage bears the name of the city. The creator is unknown, because it was made accidentally and not by a single person several centuries ago, but ask any Hungarians wherever they live around the world about them knowing what the Debreceni pair sausage means, their eyes will surely twinkle. To-day pair passages known form, flavor are produced by civic town butchers, and the Company grouped in food preparation. Hopefully in the near future the Debrecen pairs will be hopefully  in list of Hungarikums.”  Surely a Hungarian speciality, because it is hardly to name a city else in particular than Hungary where the Debreceni pair name is listed at a local butcher shop in Detroit as well as in Sydney or in any Italian or French butcher shops to have the exact, originally prepared sausage even though these two countries are known as  the gastronomy citadels.

Hubert Hlatky-Schichter – KIOSZK  said: Quote: „One of the reasons preparing tasty meals is the key from where the ingredients are obtain, so  the characteristic tastes are brought from excellent raw materials which are from farms, small producers.”

Thereafter, Zoltán Kiss – organizers “National Restaurant Week” introduced a video presentation showing how easy it is to roll on the website and carry out a reservation. Must add here only through online is possible to make the reservations, no phone, no email! Therefore,  keep in mind all restaurants limits the number of sites: www.etteremhet.hu. Upon reservation, will receive a confirmation e-mail  of reservation to have been successful.

After the presentations the floor was full of spinning around with waiters. Bringing one-after-the-other the selection of the full menu of what to be expected for those guests who will make their reservation at this restaurant.  It would be hard to speak about all those wonderful flavors that we met by eye and by taste. Not far from saying, the chef surely became the 21st century’s conjure artists not just with flavors but in the art of food design.

This year for the second time  after  the season of Spring, the National Restaurant Week will be opening and welcoming beside local guests, tourists and foreigners living in Budapest and in many cities throughout the country to more than 100 top mid-range restaurants during the season of Fall. These restaurants will welcome „hunry people for not only Hungarian specialities, but Asia, Japan, Thai, Mexican food” between October 13  and 19, either lunch or supper meals in high quality in three-course  for just less than a quarter of the original price. Of course this does not mean the size of the meals are just bits-and-pieces of food. They are smaller portions than the original size, but nobody will leave their tables with empty stomach …that’s for sure! So the price of the menu will be 3300HUF which for many people can be easily affordable. The menu stands of 3-4 kind of starters, main course and dessert. The service fee is included, but this does not mean tips cannot be given, if the visitors were highly satisfied with the service and the menu.

Having the selection of heavenly Disznókő wines after each dish was from Mezőzombor vineyard at Tokaj which was brought by Zoltán Lesti – sales manager …  (Disznókő Estate –  was the first classified growth since 1732. Produces very fresh well-balanced sweet wines with rich ripe fruit. Especially recommended with blue cheese, desserts, oriental spicy dishes, foie gras, or simply on its own.)

FIRST FISH AND WILDLIFE FESTIVAL – BUDAPEST 2014.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Date: September, 19 – 21. 2014.

Venue: City Park – Vajdahunyadvár – Budapest.

Opened  from 10 a.m.  – 6 p.m.

Free admission

We might think of the end of summer as a slow news season. Not so far … The Fish and Wildlife Festival at the Vajdahunyad Castle is arriving this coming week-end.

The historic center of the ongoing three-day festival will hopefully attract more and more foreigners staying, living in Budapest and the domestic visitors as well.

Throughout September, 19-20-21. 2014, in the heart of Budapest’s attractions in the City Park at the Vajdahunyad Castle will be held the Frist Fish and Wildlife Festival. The event will be held at the same time along  and close to the scene where the annual National Gallop  2014 will be present just an arm distant from each other.

While rolling along the festival,  must see and taste the regions seasoning of one of Hungary’s famous HUNGARICUM, the famous Hungarian fish soup.  There will be a lane on he site called the Budapest Street, whereas restaurants will be serving fish and seafood, sushi, pad thai noodles, caviar and fish & chips. In addition to the gourmet cuisine lovers, the professionals on Hunting and Fishing will have the opportunity to fiddle around in shopping and exchanging with other fellowmen and women  tools as: books, fisherman’s magazines, bows, binoculars, fishing rods, fishing boats, trophies, traditional costumes and all sorts of handy equipments.

On the market site truffles, wild garlic, oil, products of ragweed, fresh trout and trout creams, honey, jams made from forest fruits, juices and many other items will be available. More to visit … Mini Zoo of wildlife animals . .. Forest Market , just mentioning a couple of attractions  for the families with small and young children, especially for those of high interest to nature life, but live in cities and not been able to see these animals, only by visiting the Zoo. So children will surely find their pleasure at the Wildlife Park and the pond especially build on the spot for children in having fishing experience. Also to be acquainted with animals in the forest.

Hunter’s and Fishermen’r Fair is just around the  corner i.e. coming this week-end.: Street Food Restaurants  – Hungaricums – Wildlife Park – Forest Market all at one place to have timeout,  still enjoying the light ray of the Fall’s Season Sun for the whole family with small and young children,   and long time non seen friends to gather and enjoy  spending time together during the week-.end.

What to expect at this festival … A range of two hundred kind of Hungarian and fish and seafood arriving from abroad. Speaking about fish … the  highlight of the Festival will most probably be preparing and cooking Hungary’s   famous Fish soup Ala’Szeged which will be cooked in  quantity of  5000 litter and  as to be the largest ever cooked fish soup in a giant cauldron. Fish consumption has been for centuries part of the Hungarian gastronomy, it is also an essential part of to-day’s feast meals.

Another  purpose of arranging this fair is to show the visitors the most basic materials found in the forest food and its beneficial effects. The wild animals  meat (deer, roe deer, wild boar) is much richer in proteins, vitamins and minerals than any regular meat at the shops and market halls and is without any growth hormone and other materials. Therefore, the consumption of wild meat is very healthy. Visitors will have the opportunity to taste these meals prepared of the wild animals of the forest  such as:  pleasant, rabbit, deer, wild boar, venison specialties at the Street Food restaurants. The unique specialities  cannot be left alone without the excellent local wines, pálinka served at the beer houses and pálinka stands.

Venue: District XIV.,  Promenade Olof Palmer  – City’s Park – Ice Rink  (Városliget – aside at the Hero Square)

Date: Thursday, October, 9. – Saturday, October, 12. 2014.

To-day attended at the press announcement by the participant organizers of the soon coming up Oktoberfest in Budapest. The annually organized  Octoberfest is a festival that grabs attention all around the world in celebrating the world’s greatest beer.

This year need not have to travel to Munich a week before to be taking part at the happening at the awesome Octoberfest party because it is coming to Budapest!

Before heading to the forthcoming Octoberfest in Budapest,  here is a little background history  of  where and why this traditional began … “Crown Prince Ludwig, later to become King Ludwig I, was married to Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen on October 12, 1810. The citizens of Munich were invited to attend the festivities held on the fields in front of the city gates to celebrate the happy royal event. The fields were named Theresienwiese (“Theresa’s meadow”) in honor of the Crown Princess, and have kept that name ever since, although the locals have since abbreviated the name simply as the “WIESN” Horse races in the presence of the Royal Family marked the close of the event that was celebrated as a festival for the whole of Bavaria. The decision to repeat the horse races in the subsequent year gave rise to the tradition of the Oktoberfest.”

In our days, the last day of the festival is in Munich the first Sunday in October. So lucky us Hungarians  in having the giant Octoberfest tent to be brought over to Budapest  in just a week later have our  ball  around and under the tent. The Original Paulaner Oktoberfest big tent will be arriving direct from Munich and set up at the Ice Rink.  The venue will be outstanding  in the surrounding sight and feel the jolly good just like being in Munich.  Everyone who comes along to the fest will surely feel from head-to-toe the atmosphere by tasting the boundless Bavarian beer. Right here in Budapest, the impression listening, tapping to the  real Bavarian music will be an impression as if being in Munich.

A crew arriving of six breweries from Munich that are allowed to serve beer typical Bavarian speciality beer on the Oktoberfest. Paulaner brewery will offer its finest and traditional Oktoberfest beers. The festival brings about 100 domestic and international beer types to beer-lovers. During the festival, well-known breweries along with less-known micro-breweries will showcase their products.

Also can count on throughout the three days not to miss several live performances, whereas the temperature reaching heights on stage by entertainers from the Hungarian music industry. Many attractions will be brought to the fest, as:  special Hamburgers  along the Gastro Festival , delicacies there and forth will fill the  and in any case, even if not hungry it will come to the visitors appetites to go for it. Pálinka and beer in a new formation will be present  for the first time here with the Lyan’s pálinka and beer jellies. Would anybody like to give it a try to “Have bite of beer or chew a little pálinka?”  Ain’t kidding, whether  heard  or  tasted  the beer and pálinka served in jelly may be surprising to give it a try at the Octoberfest, yet would be a pity to miss it.  As the owner said,  have to watch out in having 4 pieces of the square-shaped jellies cause they have enough alcohol to say it’s not your day for driving. Of course this is not a question here at the fest where folks can forget their vehicles, bikes at home.

Furthermore attractions: Dreamcar Show, Adventure Park and an awesome lively dance German street party throughout the fests-of-the-fests where else than here in Budapest!  Daily and 3 days tickets can be purchased on the spot.

COOKING ADVENTURE AT THE METRO GASTRO ACADEMIC – 2014.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

A few days ago we were taken on

“AN EVERY DAY …  BUT NOT AN EVERYDAY MENU”

cooking with Tamás Bereznay – chef,  gastronomy adviser and  his assistant, chef István Gálicz. The adventure took place last week at the METRO Gastro Academic. We were a little over in the invited number of folks. So upon arrival they both scratched their heads of seeing the high number of unexpected partcipants to arrive. So they had to change  a bit the pre-designed menus.  Usually they have 6-9 individuals for the media, now we were of a group of 19 participants in the cooking session. Anyway, finally a surprisingly good mood prevailed cooking and learning some new tricks and secrets in the professional kitchen by preparing more yummy tasty delights

Just in brief about what the word METRO stands for … basically resellers, entrepreneurs, institutions specializing in different events, but virtually many already have met the name, and probably have already bought some dedicates at the storehouse. Those who have had already the experience in visiting the METRO, seen and know that the product range is impressive … fresh meats, fruits, veggies, special materials immediately triggering the imagination of housewives or for those coming to that point to be.

The Academy also operates a company called Gastro Budaörs where the pros can become even more professional. Where chefs and restaurant owners can have a day or two in training themselves and thereafter sharing the experience within their teams.  This was the time when preparing food was at our fingertips, learning through close observation by the grand two capital chefs was awesome. There were three „menus” ahead of us to be prepared. All the ingredients were awaiting for us in huge pots-and-pans. The participants could choose which one they prefer to do. Neither of the invited people were professional chefs who stood next to me. They were mainly gastro bloggers. Anyway, Tamás and Zoltán were constantly running around among us, it was almost impossible to be left alone and watched and helped in preparing all the ingredients.

At first, because it took longer in preparing made the main course: foie gras with ciders of cinnamon and apple sauce laid on sweet waffles and  garnished by green pea puree.

Secondly,  came the baking time. Many may have not heard it before … this chocolate cake was baked without any flour.

At third, came the Italian, homemade noodles, baby spinach, goat cheese, mushroom cream sauce. It is a dish which can be prepared in 20 mins.

Overall, the cooking took 2-3 hours which just slipped away, with having three group cooking baking the time away.During the cooking valuable knowledge and experience was exchanged.

From the Gastro Academy side as for the time being, only having courses organized for professionals, but that does not mean a group of foreigner ladies staying, working in Hungary cannot apply and get together to cook some real Hungarian food.

Also Ambassador’s wives, and Ambassador ladies can get in touch with other Ambassador’s wives and by getting together in contact with others can fix an appointment at the METRO Academy and take part at the workshop to be everyday a kitchen fairy. The training programs include both theoretical and practical guidelines and can be by request in English language.

GOOD MORNING  POZSONYI PICNIC … STARTED SHARP AT 10 a.m.

Saturday, September, 6. 2014.

Venue:  Pozsonyi Street  is located at the 13th District (aka Lipótváros) of Budapest and  also  lies along the River Danube.

Countless programs having fun, relaxing, food in all quantities, concerts, Presentation – theatrical productions awaited for families with small children, friends to hang out still enjoying the Indian Summer in Budapest.

The Pozsonyi Picnic Association now for the 6th occasion organized at the Lipótváros (Leopold Town … a traditional neighbourhood in the city center of Budapest) the annual culture gathering previously before the coming Jewish New Year holiday. This year’s event is special for two reasons … having more-and-more theaters presentations and concert throughout the whole day and also because with the it turned out  with having the increase number of performers the venue outgrown the scene. So this year the whole route of enjoyments began from the Jászai Mari Square along the way to the St. István Park (St. Steven Park)

Just as a reminder when it began …  At the first Picnic in 2009, nearly 5000, and the last year has been more than 20000  people rolling along the venue. This year most probably doubled the number of visitors. There were countless performing artists  Szilvia Kárászy,  Tahi Tóth László (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RoQhgKRwV8kLia Pokorny, Andrea Malek,, László Dés, Miklós Benedek, Kata Janza, Pál Fekete,  Bernadett Vágó,  Zsolt Homonnay,Tamás Dunai, Judit Hernádi, János Gálvölgyi, András Bálint, András Kern, the Comedy troupe and belly dancers and salsa show  surely  got much attention  … many others programs throughout the day.

As said just mentioned … Today’s picnic was primarily for the theaters. This time, two big stage and a children’s stage filled the air, entertaining the audience. This will be in addition to the usual, Picnic successful events: street children. As in the previous years again the baking time  contest took place, baking the Hungarian speciality, the Pozsonyi croissant. The charity bazaar tables were pretty much visited  with spectator and shoppers. Hand-made crafts were on sale,  chess seats for young and elder folks, assort of manual skills for kids and a  bunch of activities  to enjoy  at the late summer days before the rainy days of the Fall arrives.  Within the program the city’s best restaurants this year was selected by a team of professional  jury and was awarded the prestigious Picnic Star.

When the night fell down and  the clock struck at 10 p.m. the Pozsonyi Picnic came to the end, but before that it was announced through the loudspeaker …

Meet You … Next Year … Same Time … Same Place!
