Storyteller Synagogues in Budapest and throughout Hungary.

Mesélő-zsinagógák-300x225

On  Thursday, March, 19. 4.30 p.m.  civil people were invited with free admission to the Odeon-Lloyd Cinema -Budapest, where the premiere documentary film was shown before officially appearing this year in the month of  April on the local Spectrum TV channel.

The history of the Jews in Hungary is dating back centuries. Time never washed away the tradition. The war only temporarily trampled upon by the culture where secrecy was forced, but it always was hiding behind the walls on the streets of Budapest. History has always found the right way. The word synagogue means „Assembly House”. Hungary, however, unfortunately rewrote the word within its history. Before the World War II there were 350 active Synagogues. After the war, the majority of Jews in the rural settlements disappeared. The empty synagogues remained, but no longer served the Jewish place as worship. Many of them ruined, remained empty, hit over the years. Then at some places the local  population turned them into useful buildings.

Now-a-days, a total countrywide is forty Synagogues. At these places most of the local residents have no idea about the buildings original function, upon stories spread word-by-word from generation to generation  immortalize their memories.

Dávid Fülöp introduced the first-part of his four-part documentary. He said his intention of producing the series of documentary was to introduce to the young adults to the built heritage of the Jews in Hungary.  He also talked about the background of his idea. It all started one day arriving to the Honvéd Sport Club for his fencing training. As he entered the training center he discovered on the inner walls some Jewish monuments depicting the building details. Then together with his friend Eszter Soós decided to look, search for similar buildings in Budapest and in Hungary where previously these were functioning as Synagogues. They both discovered beside in Budapest more than a dozen in various sizes and architecturally unique buildings throughout the country to-day paying a complete and very different in function. Also was said the documentary will be subtitled in English language and after the premiere shooting on  TV will be available on other  forms of screening.

The 42-minute documentary series on the history of Hungarian synagogues had been funded and supported by the premiership.

Einstürzende Neubauten „Lifetime Achievement” concert – July – Aquarium Club – Budapest.

lament_l

Good news for the industrial heads!

Einstürzende Neubauten „Lifetime Achievement” concert to be presented in Budapest!

 Aquarium Club – July – 2015.

Whether you are already a fan or just keen to dance to something new, make sure to be in Budapest!

The band was founded in 1980 in West Berlin, celebrating its 35th anniversary this year.  The Einstürzende Neubautent is one of the outstanding German avant-garde-industrial flagship. Most probably fans of the group may already be acquainted with frontman Blixa Bargeld,  so need not have to introduce to domestic audience. They are not deemed worthy of nostalgia, as the band led by Blix Bargeld not only way back moved the masses, but today are just doing the right thing, being good as decades ago.

In the early days their classic song were structured  by the use of jackhammer and then after the sophisticated ears experienced the strange formation of noise music. Never-the-less over the years plenty of refined methods entered our music world. So the point of this non-conformist medley has laid the foundation for reinterpreting the music.

Following the band’s creativity, the time to proved their presence of to-day. In 2007 released their last album and this year come out with their latest album titled: „Lament”.

The audience will not be hearing  all  the songs from  their fresh album. They will hold a slightly ironic concert, playing a set picked out of their 35 years rich history in music, titled: „Greatest Hits”. From these previous classic albums  „Perpetuum Mobile” –  „Ende Neu”  –  „Tabula Rasa”  –  „Silence Is Sexy” will be in their superb set list. Time will tell, whether the synthesizer and in addition, the iron and the chainsaw will show up within their songs on stage.

New concept: “Sharing Food” KIOSK Restaurant and Bar – Budapest

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Wednesday, March, 11, upon invitation to the KIOSK Restaurant and Bar in the midday hours in a glance was feeling like arriving to a Royal’s Brunch.

The occasion was to spend time together at the KIOSK and have a taste of their cavalcade dishes! Around a dozen of press related folks joined to hear about  their new concept in „sharing meals”, but before coming to that part, Hlatky Schlichter-Hubert, the owner welcomed us by saying  Q.: „I grew up in a family of 5 children, and the family atmosphere of sharing meals was perfect in those days, brought much more attention to each other.  I wanted to put,  live  up again for others this feeling, having a pan or a pot in the middle of the table so everyone serves themselves with what catch their eye.” This idea is potential to shape a community, need not have to wait for each other as to get on and reach the mouth-watering food.

Before the meal, Hubert took us on a not everyday tour to  look behind the scenes at the KIOSK and Bábel Restaurant. Much to my surprise, I believe this is Hungary’s largest kitchen I have ever seen. Busy hands preparing the delicious dishes in every place.

The restaurant atmosphere is really immersive. Modern yet very friendly. A “casual” style, an urban meeting place with wide space for arranging for small groups events, several separate places to having meetings and  all sorts of family affairs, where beside being together the gastronomy plays the main role.

The place is fully equipped with Hungarian manufacturers tools, devices, and crystal glasses from Ajka, Hungarian furniture. Inside the KIOSK there is a huge glass wall dividing the KIOSK and Bábel Restaturant. On the wall-to-wall glass’s shelves,  with inside a cooler are selection of wines all from Hungary, so the foreigners and local guests may have a chance in tasting excellent wines from many countryside wine regions.

Continuing our tour came tasting the marvelous looking, yummy dishes. We shortly found out about the new concept of sharing meals at the KIOSK restaurant. The essence was to show how the table is filled with large portion for a company of 2 – 4 – 6 or even more people with rich in variety of several food. The serving was just like around a home table, as a family lunch or supper look like. Was like in the old days, comfy, no rush when family or friends gathered for lunch or supper at the table. Whilst having the selections placed on the table the atmosphere became more exciting watching the lineup of not just the dishes looking good, but we were curious to right away taste them. What this new sharing food concept also offers is that it is cheaper, than if everyone would order for themselves. Marvelous idea, need not have top inch the food from the other like when having two personal plate roasted bowl.

In the chef business Gábor Orosz  is a well-known chef  who presented our menu of the Day! The appetizer was: KIOSK antipasti platter, 5 kind of freshly baked homemade bread, foie gras cream,  purple onion, Rosé duck meat, beefsteak ala tartar, eggplant cream, “körözött”  pate (liptauer or cottage cheese, pepper and cumin mixed together with cream cheese). Millet salad with a pomegranate and coriander.

Then came two-kind of  soups …Roasted Tomato Soup (tomato, celery and carrots all fried together.) Just perfect flavors … not sweet, not acid.

The other soup was beef soup, dark yet clear, such delicious beef soup. Can count on one hand how many places knows what a real beef soup looks and taste like … according to my grading this was world champ beef soup. The bone marrow, butter-melting beef meat, and as sides had Tafelspicc creamy buttery, mashed potatoes, horseradish-apple puree and spinach puree in small portions.

Then came the main courses: rabbit meat, horse beans, goat cheese fondüs noodles, homemade pastry … creamy, tasty without being heavy.

The only heartbreak came having tasted the Rosé duck. At first glance it looked perfect, but even with having 32 teeth, still was a bit chewy … Sorry for the …uck!

Then came the classic Hungarian stuffed cabbage, made as the KIOSK speciality. Instead of stuffing the meat into fermented cabbage leaves.  it was covered with cole leaves. Gave a very unique flavor, was a new experience.

All-to-all to the Royal Brunch, was very delicious, a real treat. Definitely would advise all foreigners staying in Budapest, or for those just visiting tourists, worthwhile to check in and at least taste once such a stuffed cabbage having experience of the good flavors in Hungary and take this yummy feeling long way home.

Not that we were not full by then, came the dessert   prepared of homemade noodles on top poppy-seed with apricot jam, which was the top-of-the-top.

KIOSK also has its own pastry and dessert confectionery. Masterpiece or should I say, Art of Confectioner – Árpád. His yummy delights must be tasted before leaving or can have it taken away, or have a seat, rest for a while having a smooth Choco with the cake.  Before leaving we could choose one to takeaway ourselves. We could not have had one to eat after the „light lunch!”  So if you will not drop by the KIOSK you will not know what you missed! Good appetite!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Well the month May is a bit far ahead, but never-the-less to hear the good news in advance is always a thrill!

Monty Python  – Not the Messiah … then who(!?!) … well in a nutshell  –  just a very naughty boy!

The domestic premiere on May, 31 will be at the Papp László Budapest Sports Arena.

After seven years captivates concert halls around the world the show is coming in May, 2015. Eric Idle and John Du Prez. „Not the Messiah” was also the author of the award-winning musical Spamalot. The show to be presented is a veritable genuine cavalcade in its unique genre. The founder of Monty Python, Eric Idle once said this is the „Baroque ‘n’ Roll”. Been on tour with the “Not the Messiah” in Canada, UK, United States of America, Australia and so forth, the show in May makes its debut in Budapest by excellent Hungarian singers, artist.  The Life of Brian from ’79 holds classic gags to giggle about and of course the best known famous songs which will trigger loud of smiles and laughter by the audience.

On October, 2. 2009., with a smashing full house celebrated with this piece Monty Python’s 40th birthday together with still existing Monty Python members, as Eric Idle, Michael Palin, Terry Jones and Terry Gilliam. The show was held at London’s Royal Albert Hall, along with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Chorus and with renowned opera soloists.

Eric Idle –  An Englishman in Budapest!

A comedian, actor, writer, singer, composer and songwriter and member of the Monty Python team and will be visiting Hungary for the first time and that ain’t a joke!

Definitely, the one-and-only undistinguishable guest at the premiere night.

Naturally, the well-known catchy songs, as the  “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life” and the “Lumberjack Song” will not be missing. The jolly good oratory’s domestic premier surely will warm up the hearts and souls, sing-a-ling together with the Hungarian-known opera, musical singers and actors.

Learn at the press conference of to-day, that for the time being the catchy words will be in Hungarian language with English subtitle and later on taking on the road  to countrywide cities as to: Győr, Szombathely,Veszprém, Miskolc, Debrecen, Szeged  will have the performance also in English language by the Hungarian singers and actors. This may welcome, attract more foreigners as well to see the piece.

Also highlighting with his presence, as the narrator – most probably dressed in blue, but will not be blue at all in the play – Miklós Galla without whom naturally, the show would be kinda deficient in not having him on stage. Indeed, in his vain flows the utmost Monty Python’s love and spirit from the beginning of time as a domestic follower. Actor – Péter Molnar Kálloy is not far from UK plays. He is well-known in Hungary having huge love in playing W. Shakespeare pieces.

Starring in the show: Judith: Melinda Heiter – soprano – Hungarian State Opera singer,  Mandy Cohen: Kata  Janza – mezzo-soprano  – Budapest Operetta Theater,  Brian Cohen: Zsolt Homonnay – tenor  – Budapest Operetta Theater,  Stan / Loretta / Ben: Steve  Hajdú – baritone-like  – Madách Theater, Reg Biggus Kukis: Demeter Pintér – bass.

Naturally, would be kinda of deficient without having on stage, the full spirit of Miklós Galla in the upcoming show. He is Hungary’s Monty Python’s utmost domestic follower.

The „jolly-good oratorium” having 80 members of Dohnányi Orchestra will be providing the music, conductorGábor Hollerung along with 100 members from the Budapest Academic Amateur Choral Society.

Text Book and lyrics: Eric Idle. Music: JOHN DU Prez and Eric Idle. Original screenplay by Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, Michael Palin. Light and lighting designer – János  Madarász (Bird), Director –  György Szomor, Producer – László Sándor.

Coisbo

One Gold, One Silver, Six Bronze medals were the awards won  by Hungarian craft breweries in Dublin at the Alltech Craft Brews and Food Fair competition – 2015.

At the most prestigious and largest beer competition in Ireland, Hungary for the first time was able to participate with the Hungarian homemade beers at the competition in Ireland.

Hungary had beer manufactures with a booth of 18 taps of full-bodied „yummy” taste beers.

The three-day festival was arranged between February, 27- March, 1. with the number of nearly 10,000 local and international craft beverages as well as local culinary delights.  Approximately, 500 craft beers to sample by 60 brew manufactures from 24 countries from across the globe. The booths were standing wall-to-wall. This award was given for the second year in a row, The “Supreme Cider” certificate, a new award was added this year to the Dublin Cup and was won by Rochdale Three Berry Cider from the McCashin’s Brewery.

As for the Hungarian success of homemade beers, about five  or six years ago Hungary had the craft beer revolution, that in a short time became extremely popular, that was completed by a law which come into force in 2012. In the beginning the producers  made 1000 liters of homemade beers for their own pleasure. Anywhere, where the  beer brewers are around the world produce beers  it is well-known that centuries worth of experience is need  to produce the special liquid, called as beer.

For the first time to be able to taste Hungarian beer in Ireland was at the competition and festival in Dublin’s Alltech Brews Craft Beer and Food Fair.  Most probably and the final result proves the Irish and other nationalities present were pretty surprised with the large assortment of  Hungarian beers they tasted. For those who will find in the future these labels of beers may say they have tasted the award-winning beers from Hungary.

Here are the Hungarian winning beers:  Gold medal  – „Mug of Beer”  (Csupor homemade beer – Csupor Házisörfőzde – Bunny Hop),  Silver medal – Zip’s Brewhouse (Pineapple Saison Noir),  Bronze medal – „ Zip’s Brewhouse” (Black IPA),  Bronze  medal – „Mug of Beer” (Csupor Sör Kft. – Tántorgó ParIPA) – Realing ParIPA, Bronze  medal –  „Legend Brewery” (Legenda Sörfőzde Kft.)  – Horse Juice, Bronze  medal – „Reketye Brewhouse” (Ravasz Hód) – Shifty Beaver,  Bronze medal  „Horizon Beer” (Sörműves Kft.) – Brewed at Kaltenecker, Bronze medal  – (Sörműves Kft.) – Horison Japanese Wheat.

Most probably the tasters at Dublin were floating, hypnotized by the taste, color, flavors having a sip of the smoky black lager, rye India Pale Ale smoky, hoppy American Pale Ale, Belgian beer, the heavily hopped wheat beer ,  the sour types and so on.

Less than four years ago Molly and Wally the two combats arrived straight from Melbourne to the Budapest Zoo. On Friday, March,3 again was a big day in the history at the Budapest’s Zoo. Two unique newcomers Vobara and Nur-Nuru-Bin koalas arrived again to enrich the Zoo’s community.

The koalas names bear in the Australian Aboriginal language “south wind”.

They both came to Hungary within the international koala program, which needed in advance 6 years of hard work, filling 660 pages, 60 individuals work, 1066H’s of training and documenting in Germany and Belgium the koala care personals. Their doctor was trained in France. In deed, welcoming the koalas needed a special environment – home that was built especially for the comfy. As for the daily feeding to provide the on eucalyptus plant … they both eat ½ kgs/day. Furthermore, taking into sum of other tasks. which also says at first the new zoo residents can only be males.

Nur-Nuru-Bin  and Vobara  koalas both are males … This is always the case when koalas are given to another Zoo. Hopefully, in a couple of year there will be a chance to have a female, replacing one of the male koala and time will tell if and when the koala baby will be born at the Budapest’s Too.

The UK Lamb duo on tour arriving to Budapest!

card_avatar

The electronic music duo consisting of Lou Rhodes and Andy Barlow from Manchester, England who formed originally in 1996., is back in Budapest with addition of Dorothy Lamb’s Legs and Mius will provide the atmosphere  with their latest album titled: Backspace Unwind

Don’t miss out … Track this event on Wednesday, March, 4. 2015 at the Akvárium Club on the Erzsébet Square in the Capital.

Tickets on the spot, price: 5900.-HUF

Through 2015 -2016 they are traveling in Europe and holding concerts and one of them will be this week-end at the Akvárium Club in the Capital. Over 2 years ago the Lamb gave a concert here in Budapest and then gained a lot of fans too. This time old and new fans will be awaited for a night of pleasure at their concert.

The band from Manchester are producer Andy Barlow and Lou Rhodes singer-songwriter. Their music is heavily influenced by hip hop, drum ‘n’ bass and jazz styles, which they successfully combine to achieve their electronic genre. Although Andy and Lou were the two founders of the band and the key members, they also expanded to welcome bass guitarist Jon Thorne, guitarist Oddur Mar Runnarson, and drummer Nikolaj Bjerre.

Once complete, in 1996 the „now multi cultural”-band went on to release their first self-titled album, which after success consequently followed the release of three more albums and numerous successful singles. They released a greatest hits album, named, “Best Kept Secrets”, in 2004. Although they seemed set for a long musical career, the band slowly started touring less and making less and less music, recording in studios less frequently than a band should. This let to the break up of Lamb in 2004 as they performed their last live gig at the Paradiso in Amsterdam.

After various solo projects, the band came back together in five years later in 2009. Their first performance since the break up was at ‘The Big Chill music festival’, they then subsequently went on to perform live at numerous British festivals, including, Glastonbury, Cactus Festival and Beautiful Days Festival as well as other throughout Europe.

Following this success, Lamb went on to release their 5th studio album, named, ‘5’.
