Dana Lixenberg (1964 Amsterdam, NL) is considered as one of the outstanding voices in contemporary documentary photography.

Her sensitive and personal approach to socially vulnerable communities were close to her. She studied photography at the London College of Printing from 1984 to 1986 and at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam from 1987 until 1989. Lixenberg has exhibited at museums and institutions including: Aperture, New York; Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam; Centre Photographique, Rouen; MMK, Frankfurt; The Photographer’s Gallery, London; Busan Biennial, Busan; Huis Marseille, Amsterdam; Kunsthal, Rotterdam; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; FOAM, Amsterdam; Frans Halsmuseum De Hallen, Haarlem; and LACPS, Los Angeles.

Dana Lixenberg – Imperial Courts 1993-2015  holds the outcome of a long-term photographic project. In 1992, Lixenberg was asked by a Dutch magazine to travel to South Central Los Angeles and document the tense situation that had arisen in the aftermath of Rodney King’s brutal beating by LA police and the subsequent acquittal of all the police officers who had been at the scene. Lixenberg visited the area of the riots and slowly a relationship evolved with the residents of the Imperial Courts social housing project, in the Watts area of Los Angeles.

In her projects Lixenberg’s focus is often on individuals and communities struggling to survive with dignity amid difficult social conditions. Although the residents were initially wary of Lixenberg, she nevertheless managed to develop a long-term relationship with them. With her large format camera she returned on countless occasions to Imperial Courts over a period of twenty-two years.

Editorial works by Lixenberg are often published in newspapers and magazines such as Newsweek, Vibe, The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker and Rolling Stone. Last year Lixenberg won the prestigious Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize for her work on the Imperial Courts project. Besides black and white portraits and landscapes, the exhibition at the Mai Mano House comprises of video recordings, an audio installation, and a web documentary. A book that was published on the project by Roma Publications has also won several awards.

The exhibition has been realised with the kind support of the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Budapest, the Mondriaan Fund and the National Cultural Fund in Hungary.

“Elvis“ – „The Wonder of You“ with Priscilla Presley – Budapest

Elvis in Concert  – European Tour

Papp László – Sport Arena – Budapest

June, 6. 2018.

Hopefully, not on my own by saying Elvis was one of the most influential and legendary cultural icons the world has ever witnessed. With music talent that knew no end, and good looks that could kill the girls, ladies.

A little do we know about Elvis Presley had a secret relationship with Sophia Loren, but find out on June, 6. 2018. when Priscilla Presley talks about Elvis the King”s Life.

The rumor that the Italian actress, Sophia Loren and king of Rock’n’Roll, Elvis Presley, are in love with each other in her fifties. Whether romance is really a scary love, or a friendship that has grown to a grave in the lives of two celebrities, little is known to this day.

The successful actress, Sophia Loren, and Elvis Presley, who was already a hero then, met for the first time in 1958 in Hollywood, Paramount Studios. The King had a dense year: he lost his mother, then went to the military to meet his later wife, Priscilla Ann Beaulieu, ten years younger. In the same year he filmed the movie King Creole (which was also directed by Michael Curtiz from Hungary), in which he played the main role. According to the reports, Sophia Loren was the one who saw Elvis at the movie’s capital and approached him and introduced herself to him.

They say there was much more to them than simple friendships. Every time Sophia Loren was filmed, at that time, on average, three films were produced on her starring, thanks to her producer and husband Carlo Ponti- who had been known overseas since 1958. They say the actress was lonely in Hollywood without her family and friends, a close friend said, trying to replace Elvis Presley’s gap in her heart.

Some rumors were told that the King was flamboyant for the sexy diva, fascinated by her humor and beauty.  They both got along like a house on fire and they had remained in love and kept in touch until this death. Many people question the existence of strange love, even in the face of their over-heated erotic images, and the King’s kiss kissing the neck of the Italian actress. It is true that Presley was harnessed with many actresses as Loren’s love life gave a constant theme to gossip.

However, Priscilla Presley is supposed to react sensitively to this day the sound of Sophia Loren’s name.

Priscilla Presley will tell stories of their relationship and commenting perhaps from the perspective of so many years the story of Sophia may be found out of the life of the King.

Premier: Cinema City – Arena – Budapest  Friday, 7 p.m. May, 4. 2018.

Audience Meeting + Screening with György Marta Kessler:

Premier Kultnafé Cinema, Saturday, May 5, Saturday

Hannah: Buddhism’s Untold Journey’ tells the story of Hannah Nydahl and her adventure bringing Tibetan Buddhism to the West. From her wild and idealistic roots as a hippy in Copenhagen, the film follows Hannah and her husband Ole to the hedonistic city of Kathmandu, where in 1968 they became two of the first Western students of His Holiness the 16th Karmapa – the first consciously reincarnated lama of Tibet, and the man who would change their lives forever.

At the heart of the film lies the unique and inspiring love story of Hannah and Ole and their unwavering dedication to bring Buddhism to the West. From Europe and North America, through the fall of communism in Eastern Europe and Russia, to being kidnapped by guerrillas in South America, the film portrays the path of a great woman at the forefront of a turbulent, ever-changing world.

Hannah’ explores how the Buddhist ideal of freedom, in all its forms, is more relevant today than ever and why everything Tibetan should not be considered holy. The result is a film that is vibrant and rich in both content and style, a testament to a wonderful woman and the life she dedicated to Buddhism.
