Multi-arts festival of the Year!

Venue: Pécs – Public spaces around the city center.

This year will be held from June, 30 –  July, 2. 2017., at Pécs having the enormous success within the  last year’s festival. The organizers attention is to guarantee this year as well  the cavalcade of events to the visitors by enjoying their time at the splendid 2nd Zsolnay Light Festival so these were the welcoming words by the organisers at the TEREM of Budapest’s newest event venue.

During the 3 days superb projection mappings turning the downtown into a magical “Wonderville”. The XXI century light art various branches of new circus, street arts, theater, countless concerts and street performances await visitors.

Pécs light festival wishes to welcome and provide an unforgettable experience to foreigners in Hungary and of course the Hungarian visitors. The three-day event of the XXI century … light art various branches of street arts, theater, music and new circus entertains visitors.

Last year were 50,000 visitors, many have  arrived from neighbouring countries and other countries.

Last year, North and South America have been also candidates, and this year will not be other. This year’s festival highlights the airy circus trapeze artists. The 14-member troupe consisting of trapeze artists and musicians arriving from Spain to the Széchenyi square, where there will be a 70-tonne crane showcasing their art of work. Barcelona known for hairdresser light will be present to give visitors a unique shiny hair at the scene.  Also coming from Bali with a 6-foot moving scenery.

A festival that connects the world!

The Titanic International Film Festival is at the same time a competition festival running since 2005.

In 2017  will be screened 34 films from 27 counties at 6 + art cinemas!

While you are always on the lookout for exciting new venues to visit, take a film tour and enjoy the international cultural on-screen with locals and foreigners  at the upcoming Titanic Film Festival between April, 6. –  April, 13. 2017. It will be a fine time to experience how the film culture grows. To the line up is worth to have a word …  the 24th Titanic Film Festival showcasing also not just film from European countries, but a look out on the world films.

It will be  opened by with Swedish director Johannes Nyholm’s Giant.

The films will be divided into six sections in Competition, Festival Favorites, Asian Winds, The Dark Side, American Independents, Titanic Dox. So it was announced by organiser – György Horváth – Titanic festival. Also present   vice rector – Géza D. Hegedűs –  University of Theater, Film and Television  who said, Q.: “ This year 80 years passed from the eponymous, Árpád Ódry, who along with Sándor Korda Sándor noted three films. The University would like to see instead of scattered sites would finally pursuing a high education teachers in new building.

The jury members are Frédéric Strauss French critic (works in Hungary for four years. ) and György Dragomán writer, the head of it is Golden Bear-winner Ildikó Enyedi.

The eight-day long 24th Titanic festival will be opened  by the Swedish director – Johannes Nyholm’s Giant– and will be the premiere new film by Hungarian director  – Ferenc Török  – „1945

This year’s documentary section gets a new name, Titanic Dox and it has a strong supply. Jon Nguyen, Rick Barnes and Olivia Neergaard-Holm Danish filmmakers – directed David Lynch: The Art Life in which Lynch himself takes us on an intimate journey through the formative years of his life. From his idyllic upbringing in small town America to the dark streets of Philadelphia, we follow Lynch as he traces the events that have helped to shape one of cinema’s most enigmatic directors. The film infuses Lynch’s own art, music and early films, shining a light into the dark corners of his unique world, giving audiences a better understanding of the man and the artist.

Tony Palmer’s famous film of Leonard Cohen’s 1972 tour of Europe,  “Bird on a Wire”, long thought lost and only available on very poor quality bootlegs, has been digitally and painstakingly restored to its original glory, thanks to the discovery in 2009 of 296 cans of rusted-up material in a warehouse in Hollywood. Containing 17 of Cohen’s greatest songs, emotionally delivered when he was at the height of his powers, this is an unforgettable record of a poet and singer on the brink of worldwide fame. Huge sensation of the festival is that Tony Palmer accompanies his film to Budapest!

Jim Jarmusch’ music documentary “Gimme Danger” chronicles the story of The Stooges, one of the greatest rock-n-roll bands of all time. The “Rumble” – The Indians Who Rocked the World exposes a critical missing chapter in the history of American music, it reveals how indigenous musicians helped shape the soundtracks of American music and, through their contributions, influenced popular culture – featuring some great music legends like Link Wray or Jimi Hendrix.

Titanic Festival in 2017 also provides a comprehensive and multicoloured selection of the most galvanizing pieces in the contemporary world of cinema, including new features of established artists, first films and works of less-known regions.

During the festival the films will be screened at movie theaters:  Several ‘Art Cinemas’, Uránia National Film Theater, Toldi, Örökmozgó, Odry Theater, Puskin.

Get Closer Concert – Budapest Jazz Festival – 2017.

Dodi Kárpáti Private Projects – INTERNATIONAL JAZZ DAY 2017

The Quimby rock band trumpet and troll singer known as Carpathian Doady and childhood friend, the internationally renowned bassist Paul Vasvári in 2015 founded the contemporary jazz band them. After the death of Pál Vasvári son Márton Vasvári took over the bass. The formation of an illustrious member of the jazz legend, drummer Imre Kőszegi. The music of Richard Stanislas atmosphere of a psychedelic musical instrument, the vibraphone and MalletKat-on tone paint colors. The concert should be included free of charge, but registration ticket is needed.

Kardos Quartet – INTERNATIONAL JAZZ DAY 2017

The lantern-new line-up re-debut Kardos quartet musical versatility known film festival winning composer / guitarist / composer Professor Dani Kardos performing his own musical ideas formation. Creativity and diversity are characterized by music genre, in which the emotional melodies nicely combined with the characteristics of jazz playfulness, experimentation. The concert should be included free of charge, but registration ticket is needed.

Chick Corea – TRILOGY – Feat. Eddie Gomez, Brian Blade

Musician Chick Corea is a true icon, a living legend. The keyboard has 22 Grammy awards, composer and band leader 63 marked the fourth most nominated Grammy artist in history. Familiar with different styles of music, whether its avant-garde, bebop, jazz-rock fusion, and children’s songs. The chamber and symphonic works well for familiar landmarks. At the Budapest concert in May, will be featuring on stage with bassist Eddie Gomez famous drummer Brian Blade.

Ben Williams – SOUND EFFECT

The young generation of jazz artists most talented bass player, was born in Washington, DC, headed by Ben Williams with his own debut in Hungary, where like-minded with him, cutting edge celebrity candidates in the US.  The band’s second album of Sound Effect headed recorded, the Coming of Age almost everything capable of itself combine to make her the 2010’s, a jazz album worth considering … easily humming the melodies, the major mainstream predecessors respect, hip-hop and rhythm and Blues rhythms. The saxophone soloist Marcus Strickland also represent the young American frontline, and soul bands gained routine, Alex Wintz Berklee out the long-Williams quartet plays a brilliant drummer, John Davis with the irresistible groove care about.

„On Body and Soul” – wins Golden Bear in Berlin

The film is a contemporary tale about the pain and beauty of our existence.

From March, 2. it is available with English subtitles  aswell in Budapest.

On Body and Soul directed by the Hungarian female director Ildiko Enyedi won the Golden Bear for Best Film award, at the 67th Berlin International Film Festival at Grand Hyatt Hotel on February 10, 2017 in Berlin, German. It also picked up the best film awards from the association of international film critics (FIPRESCI) and the German ecumenical jury and the audience award given by a jury of readers of Berlin daily newspaper Berliner Morgenpost.

The film is screened in Budapest at the Művész, Cinema City Aréna and Allee cinemas. The Running Time is 116 minutes.

The film is a contemporary tale about the pain and beauty of our existence.  The film tells a love story of two colleagues in a slaughterhouse. The jury find the film connects the two roles “in quite an amazing way,” and more importantly, reminds people of “a word often used easily”: compassion. Enyedi said the film can be understood only by those with “a generous heart.”

Visit Gyula for many reasons … Chapter3.

Reason1. … would be to visit the Gyula Castle Spa, one of the third superb in every sence at the bath of mineral healing water.  The members of  press were taking on a spa tour by Vanda Dombovári – communications and marketing director and learned once you are at Gyula don’t be on a run to gain that special experience. Enjoy every minute healing your body and soul. The Gyula Castle Spa at 8.5 hectare park of the Almásy Mansion, that also stands as nature conservation area. Each year thousands of Hungarians, foreigners from Austria, Germany, U.K. and from the other side of the border reach a number of 10000 guests per day.  A mass visitors year-after-year again returning as guests, spending short and long stays during their holiday. The Castle Spa has also a therapeutic contingent operating full year around with assistance of supervision of rheumatologist, physiotherapist and sports specialist. The food was just from the oven, yummy and top class.

Reason2.  …  to visit the Almásy Mansion … was a fine time to visit, because the temporary exhibition titled „Relics of the Martyrs of Arad in Gyula” is on view until March, 19. 2017. These martyrs played a huge role in the Hungary’s history, 10  out of 13 generals later executed in Arad for their part in the Hungarian Revolution, surrendered on the premises of the mansion at August, 23. 1849 and left for Arad to meet their fate.

Feel like going back in time and enjoying the atmosphere, relaxing as in the old days the residences of the nobility did. You will be certainly driven on the path of Hungary’s history lane by the power and emotion that the Almásy Mansion holds for the visitors. There are permanent and temporary exhibitions throughout the year.

The Almásy Mansion has a long history … following the reduction of the territory occupied by the Ottoman Empire, Baron Johann Georg Harruckern of Upper Austria was allowed to purchase almost the entire territory of Békés County from the Holy Roman Emperor Charles VI, the King of Hungary, in return for his services in the wars against the Ottomans. He set about intense repopulation in Békés County. A large number of Hungarians, Slovaks, Germans and Romanians arrived and settled in the county.

At the Mansion, there is a possibility to purchase, select some gifts from craftsmen of the Békés Country at the mansion’s souvenirs store. There are replicas of objects and items to take home as a piece of the Hungarian history. These items surely will hold memories of your stay at Gyula – Hungary. While exploring its exhibition it’s a fine time to have an exquisite coffee with their speciality of cream cake, beverages offered at the Mansion Café.

To reach both venues from Budapest drive on the M5 motorway and the M44 road and guests arriving from Szeged or Debrecen along the 47 road via Békéscsaba will arrive to  the City of Gyula.

Below a bit of background about the Almásy Mainson (source: Almásy Mansion). “The Almásy’s is an old noble family from Zsadány and Törökszentmiklós, were linked to the mansion through the marriage of Countess Stephanie Maria Wenckheim and Count Kálmán Almásy. Their son Dénes (Dennis) and his wife Ella Károlyi Almásy were very popular in Gyula due to their “infinite modesty”. The count’s wife donated large sums to support the building of the grammar school and the nearby József Sanatorium.

The Harruckern-Wenckheim-Almásy Mansion in Gyula also played an important role in Hungary’s cultural life. In 1746 it was the first mansion in Hungary to house a theater performance.The grandfather of Ferenc Erkel, the composer of Hungary’s national anthem lived in the mansion as a house musician and master of ceremonies. The great composer Ferenc Erkel himself was a frequent visitor. Members of more than one generation of the Erkel family gave piano concerts during soirées at the mansion. The famed artists Mihály Munkácsy started his career as a painter under the tutelage of Elek Szamosy, who was in charge of making copies of and restoring old family portraits and other paintings in the family’s collection.”

Looking for a show for this  coming  week-end, there is no better place to be than at the Hungarian State Circus, where  the „Neighbouring Circus – “Stars of the Central European Circus Ring” performance will be on in the Circus until the end of this coming week-end. The Hungarian State Circus caught the attention of the surrounding nations circus culture, which exerted great influence, and that we can learn from the neighboring countries circus artists here in Budapest This acrobatic show must be experienced at least once in your life and keeping that in mind, and if you would like something that the whole family would enjoy must hurry up to reserve your seat, because  on until this week-end – March, 19. 2017. If you are interested in what the world of the Hungarian circus and circus which are the prominent artists of neighboring countries, it is in the „last hour” to purchase tickets. The circus show is not just an ordinary performance at the circus ring, but rather a night at the Art of Artists.

The occasion of Hungary’s national holiday  – March 15., speech by Hungarian State Circus  – Director Péter Fekete opened the „Circus Neighbouring” show jointly with Dr. Zoltán Maruzsa Assistant Secretary of Public Education (EMMI).

As the tradition it is kept, that on this day the Circus Artists professional management and the Trade Union of transfer awards. These awards as recognition were given to Árpád Simon (90yrs.)  Tihany “Lifetime Achievement” – 2016. The award was founded by the Hungarian Circus and Variety, Dittmár  Lajdo (30yrs) “Stage Young Star” Award  received from the Artists’ Union and the Circus and Variety Hungary. At the festive program the National Anthem  was sang by with the audience  the Oscar 2017 – winning song “Everybody” in the film by the Bakáts  Music School choir  of Budapest.

Before the neighborhood counties arists step into the arena, a short landscape of the country is introduced.

In the first part of the program of Visegrád, the second part the culture of our country and neighboring countries introduced by the circus artists. Within the show, the Serbian circus director – Valerijana Anamaria Sliva, Adriana Folco – Austria, enchanting the audience with her horse-productions. The Yarov Group – Ukraine, – performed mix comedic elements, which brought plenty of laughter and excitement within the audience. The Hungarian Henrik Veres with his superb, amazing juggler power performance and the world-famous Rippel Brothers with their brand new power-lifting show with their Rippel Brothers Academy’s 2 pupil on high lifted stage dazzled the audience.

The amazing acrobats performances keeps your eye wide open watching the artists introducing the art of traditional circus and the audience realizing that the circus art is more than just entertainment. The whole auditorium held endless massive ovations throughout the show.

Kind attention to the locals and especially the tourists having limited time in the city and curious, wondering what/where to go int he coming 3 days in the afternoon or evening the Hungarian State Circus more than welcome adults and children.

Visit Gyula … Sights – Sounds – Gourmands … Just for You!

Gyula is a relative small City, just about 30000 inhabitants. Yet, there are a lot of locals and tourist  visitors throughout the year and whether being a gobbler or just a modest gourmand, at Gyula will find the right place to  satisfy hunger and thirst.

Spending almost the whole day at the Sausage and Sódamustra press meeting, along with visiting the Gyula Pálinka Manufacture – tasting hall, went to the Patrióta Restaurant for supper.  It is a family business run by Katalin Nyári  and Árpád Csiszér since 2008. The professional service, is a real authentic Hungarian restaurant served real tasty good food. The chief obviously loves his profession, really nice flavours and creative compositions. His wife, being the service staff, has a diverse knowledge of wine and foodies. The interior of the restaurant is clear and simple, and very friendly, similar to the typical Hungarian small restaurants, but if you enter you feel more, because you will get a wonderful journey on enjoying the dishes. The restaurant is near of the center of Gyula, half way among the Castle and Gyula’s center. The couple pays a lot of attention to their suppliers, and to their quality, everything is made fresh. Was cared as royal feast, experienced the novelty of goulash jelly and those who prefer beef surely wish to recommend to taste the tender beef cheek with heavenly excellent homemade croquettes. Attention for the fish lovers …  the whole baked trout, fresh, tasty and juicy. Outside of Budapest’s restaurants, this restaurant is a small jewel’s of south-east Hungary. Also for the 3rd time ranked as the only restaurant in Békés county in TOP 100 of the National Dining Guide.

It would be difficult to put in words the wide range of delicacies surprised us by the restaurant, but the night was still ahead and János Kocsis – tour guide lead us through the quiet peaceful town. The first whiff of spring arrives to the City of Gyula!

Even though Gyula is worthwhile to visit anytime of the season, the coming event not in the peak season is to bring together families, friends and enjoy the delicious, mouth-watering yummies outdoor in the ray of the early spring.

This year it will be held for the seventh time the Sausage and Sódarmustra Festival. The main goal of this event is to present internationally with presentations, to popularization and to introduce experience-focused exhibition, by showing the traditional way with smoked products and sausages. One of the curiosities of the festival will be the “growers” trade competition. The Gyulai Sausage already been listed in a remarkable place of „Hungaricum”  goods and this festival is also a fine time to present by showing the traditional way smoked products and sausages are made. These were the introduction words by the Dr. Ernő Görgényi – Major of Gyula at the press gathering in the  Gyulai Pálinka House.  Also said, Q.: “As part of this event will be continuing the popular series of guess the weight of the ham. He/She who guess at as closely as possible the weight of the Sódar will be the winner and to take home whole ham. A couple of highlights … Craft fair, Theme Park, participate at a professional presentation to learn about the “Gyulai Sódar”  at the HQ’s of Gyulai Traditional Butchers’ Association  guided tour to visit the Museum and tasting sausage. In addition to the 3Days event, many colorful concert program will be to entertain the visitors. On Friday, the focus will be on rollicking music, including the Republic  and the Familiar faces, Pernahajder Campbell, Over3  and the Dirty Slippers bands  step on stage. Over the years has become a prestigious cultural and gastronomic festival, which in terms of tourism is of paramount importance.” 

Aliz Komoróczki – managing director – Gyula Tourism Office,  spoke about the population of Gyula which has 30000 inhabitants. The city is offering so much to see and visit in the aspect of tourism. The city has 5000 beds at 3, 4 and 5 star hotel and a number of rent a room and apartments.  Mainly, known already by locals and foreigners who yearly came to enjoy the healing strength of the mineral spa at the Gyula Castle Bath – Aqua Palace. The opening of last year the Almásy Palace after reconstruction already well received by the locals and even visitors arriving outside of Gyula. The city’s main goal is to be at hand serving its resident all the locally prepared and produced honey, beer, pálinka, confectionery, hand-made bonbons, veggyies, food, meat and last but not least the famous Gyulai Pálinka. This is biggest sausage festival.  The guests once again are welcomed with local products which is an important fact for the city.  The city has so much to share with its visitors. Mainly, Gyula Castle Bath – Aqua Palace with its medical Spa is the highlight of the city. The opening of last year the Almásy Palace, after its reconstruction already well received by the locals and even visitors arriving outside of Gyula. And now in the south-east of the country has become as tradition the country’s biggest sausage festival and needless to say welcomes its guests once again.

The event organizer: Tibor Bórdás commemorated the tradition year-by-year as the  introducing their famous butchers of Gyula.  Added, all professional appearance emphasis on the city’s gastronomic and touristic values. During the festival will be presented the city’s rich region gastronomic and opportunity in displaying local values. At the event the visitors may learn the way of the traditional meat processing and its customs.  Can taste the real Hungarian pork dishes  highlighted the main organizer. The Gyula System Ltd. has managed to win the Gyulai Butchers Association of Traditional – culinary programs related technical supervisor of the event, ensuring a high standard of professional gastronomic. This year, for the first time proclaiming the Viharsarki Sausages Championship. Beside the sausages also traditional practices: as hams and smoked products will be at the international competition. Both taking place on the opening day of the competition and applicants are more than welcome  by registration.  Last year there were 117 entries, such as from Transylvania and Highland  bringing their handicraft products. Also there has been interest to join this unique festival from Germany and Spain  highlighted the main organizer.

For the media representatives a demo was shown how  the famous home-made Gyulai sausage is produced on the spot by  Imre Dinya – small producers – owner of Gyula Sausage manufacture and served  for tasting. Also at the press gathering the representatives were taken on a Palinka route in tasting dozens of winner of the world spirits awarded  Gyulai Pálinka Manufactory Ltd., at the Tasting Hall.

The coming week-end is worthwhile not to be missed to join by Hungarians and foreigners to the well-intensity programs to the quality of meat products offering special dining experience, serving excellent,  home-made prepared offers by “craft” butchers hams, smoked meats, sausages entice guests to taste. In addition to the traditional meat-processing practices, methods, of course, the presence of the majority of the pork dishes can be tasted during the event. Also keep in mind to pay a visit downtown the superb sophisticated and cozy place the Guinness Pub.
