Mario Biondi the Italian Barry White “müpa-home” Concert – Budapest

The Italian Barry White – that pretty much sums up everything about the Sicilian-born Mario Bondi.

Hopefully with this video recording will make your evening at home more pleasant and enriching with uplifting moments.

https://www.mupa.hu/media/mupa-home?secure

With his sensually crooning voice, he is an extremely popular interpreter of soul and R&B tunes. Born Mario Ranno, the singer probably had his fate set out for him in advance, as his father, Stefano Biondi, was himself a hit factory, while other family members – his grandmother as a singer and his great-grandfather as a painter – also enjoyed widespread acclaim in the arts. Mario launched his professional career as a teenager: he was all of 17 years old when he took the stage alongside Ray Charles, with the cream of the crop of Italian vocalists also taking up inviting him to their recording sessions and concerts. He would not deny that Isaac Hayes, Luther Vandross and Donnie Hathaway all had a major influence on the development of his own style. He exploded onto the international music scene and public consciousness in 2004 with his first real hit: This Is What You Are. This number, which he recorded with the High Five Quintet, climbed to the top of numerous charts, inspired numerous remixes and was performed at the Sanremo Music Festival. But Biondi still would not end up sticking with this style, instead going on to experiment with other musical directions ranging from jazz and funk to pop and Brazilian sounds. His popularity has continued unabated into the current decade. Outstanding proof of this fact is his 2013 album Sun, which features such guest artists as Leon Ware, Chaka Khan, Al Jarreau and James Taylor. Never waiting for the wave of success to subside, Biondi instead rode it and came out with Mario Christmas, a CD of holiday tunes that kept him in the spotlight. He performs his songs in impeccable English. Although it is rare for him to sing in his mother tongue, at the Bridging Europe festival he delivered a few songs in Italian.

This recording was made at a concert held at Müpa Budapest on September, 27. 2019.

“Diwali”  Festival of Lights … #1 Most Popular Festival of India

“Diwali” or “Dipawali” means lighting “Diya” or earthen lamps.

Diwali festival is set on the date by the Hindu calendar so it varies in the Western calendar. It usually falls in October or November. Diwali is a New Year festival in the Vikrama calendar, depending on the cycle of the Moon in the month of Kartika. This festival is celebrated on “Amasvasya” considered to be the darkest day of the month. This day is chosen to brighten up with earten lamps in billions of homes.

Diwali, is a 5 Day Festival celebrated by millions of people across the world every Autumn. The theme of Diwali is marked with firework displays and family feasts. The festival is observed by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains, with its main theme the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil.

Diwali also is the festival of love, light, and happiness, furthermore, typically this time is meant to get along with friends and loved ones.

In 2020, Diwali commences with Dhanteras on November 12. It concludes on November 16. The main celebrations happen on the third day (this year, on November 14). Deepavali is usually celebrated a day early in South India, but sometimes occurs on the same day, when the lunar days overlap.

Legend says … “On this day the protagonist of the iconic epic “Ramayana” Lord Ram had returned from his 14 years of exile into the forest with his wife “Sita” and brother ’Laxman’ after defeating the demon king “Ravana”.The day he arrived, Ayodhya was lit up with “Diyas” or handmade earthen lamps with cotton wicks and oil. This tradition has been followed till now. This legend symbolises the victory of good over evil. According to the Hindu tradition, this day Goddess laxmi enters the homes of every Indian to bless them with wealth, prosperity and happiness. In another tradition, God Ganesha is also worshipped together with Laxmi and he is said to bless everyone with good fortune. All in all, its a festival to spread happiness, harmony, peace all around as well as within us. A day not only to clean the houses from every nook and corner, and wear new clothes and make delicious food, but to also clean up our hearts and minds of all negativity and spread goodwill around.”

In India thousands of candle and clay lamp lights illuminate houses, shops, streets and markets. It’s that magical time of the year when the doors are lined with diyas and also with colorful patterns, rangoli for decoration and to spread positivity within the colors and to welcome Laxmi – the Goddess of wealth, prosperity, and luck.

This year, things will be a little different for all due to these challenging times of COVID-19 Pandemic and the organizers indeed will be aware in properly wearing the mask and keeping distance.

St. Martin’s Goose Feast & New Wine Festival Traditions @ Hungary

Organizers connected to the St. Martin’s Goose Feast and the year’s New Wine gatherings throughout the country announced with great regret they will not be holding this coming week-end the traditional Hungarian St. Martin’s Day celebration according to current Covid19 government regulations.

“Q” How does St. Martin’s name relate to geese?
“A” In 371, after Martin was elected bishop of the city of Tours, he protested his election and hid. The legend tried to hide in a goose hut, but the geese betrayed them with their gagging. Thus, Martin was finally elected bishop. He did important conversion work and converted much of the surrounding pagan villages to the Christian faith. Its popularity is unbroken up till this day.

Also in the Roman times November, 11  was the beginning of the winter season and large feasts were held for new wine of the year newly produce. It was the last holiday before the 40-day fast before Xmas, so feasts and fairs were kept since then. At such times, great eating and drinking was arranged as to have plenty to eat and drink throughout the coming new year.

After the large number of events throught Hungary have had been stopped, never-the-less, many families will be holding their own St Marton’s feast day with goose meals and new wines of the year. The Fest is going to last through November, 11-14. 2020.

Below a snap of my St. Martin’s Day Goose Feast preferred with excellent wine from the Szentpéteri wine cellar – Néro Rosé  – year’s new wine selection 2020.

The Szentpéteri’s cellar covers the experience of three generations @ their Family Winery. Their winyard area lay on 65-hectare which is located in and around Kiskőrös, on sandy and loess-bedded calcareous soils … Kiskőrös is the 6th biggest city in Bács-Kiskun county by its population. It is 22 kms (14 mi) East from the River Danube and 110 kms (68 mi) South of Budapest.

Back to St Martin’s goose and wine folk tradition… According to the beliefs …
“Indeed people to drink new year wine on this day, they will have more strength and be healthly in the future.”
“Those people who does not eat typical dishes include goose soup and goose roast on Martin’s day will starve all the coming year around.”

The same day the weather was predicted:
“If Martin comes on a white horse, a mild winter, if a brown, hard winter is expected”.
According to another saying, “On Martin’s Day, if a goose walks on ice, it will dust in the water at Xmas.”

Wine could not be left out of folk prophecies either: “St. Martin is the judge of wine” as said. This could also be understood as the fact that the new wine is already drinkable at this time, according to another meaning, the weather of Fall will decide what this year’s wine will look like. Also was in their mind … at least before they got drank … the more they drank, the healthier they would be.
