THE FAIR OF CRAFTS AND HUNGARIAN FLAVORS – BUDAPEST – 2012

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The Craft Hungarian Flavors main objective is to popularize traditional Hungarian cuisine,

The Hungarian Crafts and Flavors Fair main goal was to popularize the traditional  Hungarian cuisine, but yesterday, after 3 days of  “hard work”… as to taste so many delightful flavors,  it closed its door  at the  Millennium Park, Budapest.  More than 100 different flavors of sausage, smoked duck, goose, turkey and pork meat, wide-spread of salamis, new wine from this year harvest and already well-known wine labels were out for tasting throughout the 3 days Fair.

As in the previous years the fair was divided into regions from the homeland of Hungarian masters to the other side of the neighbouring boarders. The fair was a good ground by presenting their home-made food, drinks, spices, sweets, Xmas gingerbread cookies.  The Székely mustards, the Transylvanian stuffed cabbage, the Transylvanian sheep sausage, bacon from Kolozsvár, the rich in taste the home-made pastas were served for tasting and the visitors could do shopping again.

Mr. Árpád Török from Serbia

The lovely couple from Serbia brought along their own made soap made from sour cream … the only stand that had it … along with their jams from their growing plantation and their 100% fruit basic juices, won many visitors attention in tasting and buying.

Seed Oil from Őrség

Was present at the announcement of the winner of the 3 days competition, the  “master producer”. The most liked, best exhibitor of the year by votes from the visitors. was the Őrség Oils. So the first prize went out to the „Őrségi manufactor” under the name of Batha Porta Pál (Paul) and Judit (Judy).CONGRATULATION!  The family owned couple’s company brought a wide scale of oil products to the fair. Also previously mentioned in my update, the manual seed press means and device. Just in brief the background of two oils. Beside other oils the walnut oil is better than going to the doctor: „Rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids (70%), consumption is especially indicated for the prevention of atherosclerosis.– It strengthens the heart, circulation and nerves. It contains vitamin B and lecithin of the brain and nervous system, diet, helps in concentration, stimulates brain function.” Also for kids struggling, not being able to concentrate, can  reached for success with the ingredient of the omega-3 fatty acid oil in nuts.

Another great oil I cannot leave before not mentioning: „The pumpkin seed oil is one of the finest edible oils, mainly salads and dressings are used, but for a variety of sauces, dipping definition. Even spice oil, either alone, with bread to eat too! The pumpkin seed oil rich in essential fatty acids, especially high in palmitic, stearic, linoleic acid and oil content. These fatty acids play a very important role in cell growth, youthful skin and other tissues in the preservation of the formation and transport of energy. It is also high in vitamin E content, which is also a potent antioxidant and anti-aging plays an important role. In addition, soybean oil contains a number of important minerals, especially zinc, iron and potassium. In folk medicine used to cure many diseases and is used today.Modern scientific research has shown that soybean oil can prevent a number of diseases and promote healing, such as prostate problems, arthritis, kidney stones, irritable bowel syndrome and high cholesterol.”

Unfortunately,  to get to order, neither of them goes smooth on English language, even their site is only available in Hungarian language. So getting serious to have any of these oils, be sure to get someone beside you who speaks English and off you go.

”V„  can stand for “Victory” and in a way the Vitabox is a victory drink for keeping you in good health!

My 2nd favorite was „from the tree into the box”, the freshly squeezed, full in taste, just like picking the fruit off the tree, the ”V„ Vitalbox. Is owned by the FRAVIT Ltd. a family company from Lakitelek. The 100% based fruits are in variety of flavors: apple and strawberry, apple and pears, apple and peach, apple and sour cherry, apple and beetroot and this year they come out with a new mixture in taste: apple and Sea Buckthorn. They have compact boxes measured in 5 liters. Buy at least two packsd, to carry it along, to be even … even if it is just to your car. Here are the details for connection: http://vitabox.hu/kapcsolat/

Rolling back to the “Maroni Chestnuts “

Keep your eyes on the balls, rolls, packs and even the  bottles. Basically they are filled with fresh chestnut cream in a very thin dark chocolate. Also available with fillings like the cottage cheese, sour cheese, plain or with different fresh fruits. The chestnuts bottled are available with chestnuts in honey, as compote and jams. The fresh chestnuts can only be preserved within 3 weeks, but basically I don’t think anyone will keep them in the fridge for that long. Three weeks … they a long gone!

The Maroni Hungary, regularly holds Charity Days at the town of Bakonyszűcsi as to support the mental rehabilitation home for cancer little patients in giving them a little relief, to coop with their health situation.

Here some recipes written in English and Hungarian language as well, using the chestnuts as to lighten up your lunch or supper evenings. Good-appetite: http://maroni.hu/Gesztenye-receptek-rovid.pdf

The organizers of this year  announced  as to set a new goal for themselves at the fair. Titled …” Collecting food for the starving children” Anyone was able to add in the huge basket at the departing door of any raw food brought at the fair, as to help the starving kids in Hungary.

FOURTH FAIR OF HUNGARIAN HAND-MADE FLAVORS AND HANDICRAFTS – BUDAPEST 2012.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Another year has passed and here’s the “cruise of flavors” to go on again.  You don’t have to be a gastro diplomat to enjoy the delicious Hungarian food.

The place is the same:

Millennium Park  –  Building “B”  – Budapest

November, 16-18. 2012.

So the Fair’s right opened. Now is your time to go and see, taste and enjoy the fair’s  atmosphere. There’s a chance to taste 30 different types of this year’s new wines brought by the brewers.

The local sweet tooth lovers can go on a ride back in time, a little nostalgia will be on its way with having at the fair the late ’60s  pretty popular among kids the so-called “winter ice-cream” I bet all the parents who were kids in those days have surely tasted them at least once. Even for the foreigners visiting the fair will be an interesting experience having an ice-cream in the cold or  freezing winter like the Hungarians do. It was a jolly-good idea from some smart person who  invented the “winter ice-cream” in Hungary. Seems like what’s old comes back as new for the children of to-day. The winter ice-cream is made of a wafer cup filled with real candy like speciality.

Beside the sausages, the traditional stuffed cabbages, hundred labels of  this year’s new wines, pálinka, home-made  dairy products,  honey, cheese, smoked hams, jams,  juices made from 100% fruit, spices to give that extra heavenly taste to your meals and sweets in alsort of forms. So the pleasures out there is endless!

Wish to pull your attention to some stands that would be a pitty not to visit before you leave:

The experience good food needs the testing and here at the fair this is a part of gaining experience throughout  the 3 days. So rolling on your way, you can figure out what you wish to taste …and when you decide you wish to take some home  you can get a bunch of food from the homeland of Hungary and from the folks living in the Hungarian-inhabited areas from around the neighbouring countries. This year even “secrets” are revealing at the “Batha Porta” oils from seeds,  seen on the spot  how the countryside men from Őrség prepared their pumpkin and other seeds oil with the use of manual power.

Príma Maroni has what not only the kids love but the adults as well. The “Rudi” shortened name for Rudolph is basically prepared of cottage chesse coated with dark chocolate, oh and don’t think about those old sweety thing . These are dairy products and well-known they do good for your health. The Prima Maroni also produce plain chestnut puree. Those are for many the winter’s pleasures. These aren’t available in most of the countries outside of Hungary or rare, but in Hungary you can buy them in almost every store. In brief about the company itself: “The company was founded in 1987 by Mr. György Schweickhardt a confectioner, who started making deep frozen chestnut puree for his confectionery shop at the beginning. His chestnut puree was so good, that soon he started to deliver his product to wholesalers who supply confectionery shops. The good quality chestnut puree raised the attention of Unilever Austria, and the company began to export to Austria in 1996. The retail sale of Maroni began in Hungary in 1997, under “Maroni” brand. In 1998 the “Maroni” chestnut puree won the “Quality Food from Hungary” trademark. Since that time all the new chestnut products, won this trademark, because of the good quality. Due to the professional confectioner background the deep frozen chestnut product range continuously expanded. In 2003 with a new invention the company started to produce chilled and deep frozen chestnut deserts (chestnut stick/heart/ball covered with cocoa mass, filled with sour cherry jam or different creams). The capacity of the factory rapidly expanded, in 1997 the total production of chestnut puree was 200 tons, by 2012 the production increased to 900 tons/year.” Now take that! To-day the company has more than 60 different chestnut products, from deep frozen chestnut products, to chilled desert to products that don’t need cold storage (canned chestnut puree, chestnut flour, roasted chestnut in honey syrup). In 2012 the “Maroni” brand has won the right to use the “Superbrands” title, and won the right to participate on the contest of innovative products in SIAL Paris 2012, with chestnut desserts. In 2010 the company started to process pitted, deep frozen cherry and plums, to balance the seasonality of chestnut products. In 2011 they managed to process 300 tons of sour cherry.

The Strawberry wine from the “Strawberry fields” at the town Tahitótfalú introduced their two wines based on the fruit strawberry. The Strawberryblood, the reductive maturation dry and the sweet in taste, the Strawberryhoney. Even though counting the years in wine years the Epermester winery is pretty young, yet already had reach success outside the boarders of Hungary. This year at the Matyó EXPO 2012 they received the first prize award with their Strawberryblood and the Strawberryhoney wines.
Visiting the 4th Home-Made Flavors Fair you should stop by their stand and see for yourself what a difference in taste the delicious strawberry wines are. Also can pick up a bottle or two , take them, give yourself  a treat at home or have a cool one in your fridge before your friends arrive.

Throughout  last year’s fair there were approximately 17 thousand visitors. The income from the fair supported in many ways the Hungarian farmers.

A little update coming up from the closing date on Sunday,18.

14TH BUDAPEST XMAS FAIR – DOWNTOWN AT THE VÖRÖSMARTHY SQUARE

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

SIX WEEKS AHEAD AND BUDAPEST IS GETTING READY TO DRESSED UP FOR  XMAS !

Thursday morning, November, 15  at the  famous Café Gerbeaud was held a press conference. It is a just a few steps to be in the middle of  Budapest’s  Downtown area at the Vörösmarthy Square.  The members of the press and media were called by Ms. Zsófia Vitézy, Budapest Festival and Touristic Center – Non-Profit Ltd., Mr. Mikós Csómos, Deputy Lord Mayor, Ms. Edit Dávid, Municipality City of Kalocsa, Mr. Kristóf Gáncs, HIA National Charity Organization, Mr. Endre Zsolnay “Santa Claus” Chocolate Manufactory, Mr. Gergely Lomniczi, organiser of the Advent Fair …  to hear and spread the news about the upcoming feast of Advent in days and weeks ahead at one of Budapest’s beautiful square.

The Europe’s Xmas markets are all about reclaiming the magic, seeing the pixie dust in the air and soaking up in the feeling of Advent. Here Budapest is welcoming you to the enchanting stalls, selling unique handi-crafts gifts among its 122 wooden huts.

This year the famous City of “Kalocsa” will be the guest at the fair. At least two things will ring the bell when it comes to the city named Kalocsa… one is  for its hell string and mild Paprika the other is by its  folks handwork of the „kalocsai” motives. They will highlight the market with their famous Hungarian traditional textiles, Paprika and hand-crafts which are pretty well-known by many or aren’t yet known by the visiting tourist. Well here is the time to get to know and this time needn’t have to travel to the city to purchase their original trademarks. A splendid occasion to meet the folks from Kalocsa and to pick one or two gifts as a present to family or friends for Xmas.

Grand Place at the “Vörösmarthy” Square is being transformed to the traditional spirit of the season’s “winter-wonderland” keeping fingers crossed for a bit of snow-dust as well.

The Vörösmathy square will be dressed in hand-made Xmas decorations that will lay a home to a huge Xmas tree which was brought from the PILIS mountains. Not only the Xmas tree will be dress up, but  mind you “visitors” in this chilly season better dress up with one or two comfy furs 🙂  The whole square will be on with the stunning Xmas lights. Anybody who will pay a visit, will be right into the heart of the Xmas spirit! Talking about the Xmas spirit, the huge Xmas tree will be for many as the only Xmas tree to stand by its side.

At the press conference it was also pointed out the importance to support the needy. The organizers wished to show their way of helping hands as to have fundraising on the spot. Especially, to give support to those living within daily hardship and difficulties. The organizers of the Budapest Xmas Fair mutually with the HIA National Charity Organization calls for everyone rolling along to the Advent Fair as to “Feed Hungary for Love”. Ont he spot there will be small, red colored card box filled with some chocolates and small gifts. The fund-raising income will go to the HIA National Charity Organization and will be distributed to the neediest.

Upon the press conference went for a stroll to look around and many hardworking quicky hands were on the job to dress the Vörösmarthy Square into a glamour Advent Fair. Talking about the wooden huts, to escape the bite from the chilly winter air go for a mug, taste the white or red special Hungarian mulled wine. Having a mug or two will surely make your day. These mugs were especially-made for you to warm you up and tune you into the Xmas feeling. Once you buy one mulled wine the mug is yours. Can take it home afterwards. So Xmas is in the air and so are the mouth-watering smell of good food. Just mentioning a couple of delights you can only have the taste in Hungary and of course at the Xmas Fair: stuff cabbage, Hungarian gulyás … many abroad prepare it as a stew. No!… it is not a stew, it is a heavy soup. Also a variety of sausages filled with duck, goose or pork meat as well. For the fish lovers they won’t be disappointed, the fish food will not be missing  At the same time the yummy Hungarian goose liver will surely make its way to be tasted, loved and brought. Cannot leave the scene without not tasting the delicious festive treats, the “rétes”, the “Hungarian strudel” and of course the so-called “kenyérlángos” a kinda flat bread with delicious ingredients on top and repaired just beside you in a furnace. Gingerbread biscuits in many shapes. The Hungarian folk art motives are very rich and many are baked of course with the use of the gingerbread. Also the gingerbread Santa Claus can be purchased in many shapes and forms. Porcelain dolls, rugs, small wooden kitchen accessories  and silver jewellery made by local artists will be there as well. So as the song says: “sugar and spice and all things nice” will be absolutely available. These aren’t just your regular old tourist souvenirs. See the genuine crafts made beautiful carved traditional wooden children’s toys. Hand-made candles. Xmas tree decorations which are made by local and regional artists with love and affection. Dress-up your own tree with some Hungarian decorations and get some for your friends, family and the lucky loved one.

This year,  like in the previous years there will be a huge advent calendar to see how close we are knocking to Xmas-time.

During the six weeks ahead, for the little ones there  will be plenty to do as  being at the daily workshops, children’s theater to be visited. On the 6th of December Santa Claus from Finland will land at the Vörösmarthy Square to carefully note the little kids request on his list. The organizers haven’t forgotten to have the daily advent music concerts  just like int he previous year at the Vörösmarthy Square.

So overall, could have made a long list of what to eat, drink and enjoy at the ceremonial robes dressed at the Vörösmarthy Square’s Advent Fair, but the personal experiences are the best and Budapest shows it best to you.

HUNGARIAN OLYMPIC ATHLETES AT 9TH CHEESE AND THE YEAR’S NEW WINE FESTIVAL – BUDAPEST

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

COMING UP … THE LAST WEEK-END OF NOVEMBER!

EACH YEAR, THE YEAR’S NEW WINE AND THE ARTISAN CHEESEMAKERS  KEEP THEIR 2 DAYS FEAST.

AT THE

BUDAPEST CITY PARK – VAJDAHUNYADVÁR’S  HUNGARIAN AGRICULTURAL MUSEUM.

District XIV., Budapest City Park

Saturday – Sunday, November 24-25.2012.

10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

The 2000HUF entrance fee covers and now listen carefully…  tasting tickets, souvenir tasting glass, and in the meantime to go to view the museum’s exhibition. I wonder how does that sound for many?

On November, 14 press briefing was held by the organizers by marking to bring together all the Hungarian products which are related to the year’s new wine and the hand-made cheese. The organizers therefore, decided to bring together the wine and the cheese which have been around together since the ancient times. Visiting the festival is a good initiative to learn, taste the fresh cheese and as well to the get to know more of the winemaking tradition and preserving wines from different regions of the country. The year’s new wine and the cheese festival has become a traditional festival in the scenario of the Vajdahunyadvár at the Budapest City Park. With its eye-catching Renaissance, Baroque and Romanesque architecture the place is appropriate location to arrange the widest range of events. During the festival for the first time the visitors can not only taste the year’s new wines, but there will be a wooden stand where anyone can buy for themselves, family, friends, or their hubby to take home the wines they enjoyed the most.

Concerning the line-up of the cheese, there is no secret about the cheese-maker’s goals. They wish and do as much as they can to catch up with the international trends. The cheese makers are aware of the Hungarians wanting to have fresh, tasty cheese that once saw the cows. This is visible from the consumers view who are fed up as well with those large amount of tasteless cheese, bloated, full of additional additives flavors. Just one quicky note to the gourmets. Don’t miss the pepper cheese rubbed with olive oil.

The Hungarian cheese making traditions are well-integrated into this process, together with the Hungarian wines may represent a unique experience. At the festival anyone can taste the whole  line-up of cheese, the best in quality of our country and excellent year’s new wines.

Before  the festival end on Sunday,we will find out the names and labels of the 2012 year’s best new wine and the best cheese producer.

Also in November is the right time to prepare those delicious, mouth-watering Hungarian sausages. Unique flavors such as the country sausage seasoned with rosemary will definitely will be on sale aswell. Just like the sausages as the black pudding stuffed with drie plums. The fair’s visitors will have a chance to have a taste of more than 100 different flavored chitterlings, sausages, salamis. If you haven’t yet tried it and won’t this time at the fair then you’re a looser! … and I am sure you don’t want to be that person!

This year at the fair will show up a special mixer show. Where mixers will serve their developed unique cocktails. The visitors may have experience of flavors they haven’t met before of handmade champagnes and fruit spirits

Honey lovers  won’t miss their favorite honeys … may see on the spot the procedure and also tasting the freshly prepared honey.

A little nostalgia will be also on its way … In the early ’70s was pretty popular among kids the so-called “winter ice- cream” I bet all the parents who were kids in those days have surely tasted them at least once. The Hungarians are pretty much sweet tooth individuals and in the freezing winter … the kids still want to have an ice-cream … so some smart person invented the “winter ice-cream” and from thereon kids could enjoy “ice-cream” throughout the whole year. Seems like what’s old comes back as new for the children of to-day. Visitors must go for it to feel the yummy flavor of the wafer cup filled with real candy like speciality.
There’s an invitation going out on Friday night, by the Balkan Fanatik Band. They “serve a mixture” …. no not food, but
heartwarming folk music combined with electronic music. So be their guest on the opening day I mean during the evening
time at the Fair.

The Kolompos Band and Alma Band is out on stage during Saturday and Sunday morning. the good atmosphere is guaranteed by the Kolompos and the Alma Bands. They are a pretty popular children bands. Surely, the visitor’s attention will be catch in a minute as soon as they start to play.

Won’t leave out in not mentioning the Children’s Corner! Just like in the previous years a playing corner welcomes the kids with artisan activities and toys to play. Both on Saturday and Sunday the corner is open between 9:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m.

The organizer’s thought those children with height to reach the “kitchen table” to fill their both hands by preparing their own Santa Claus shaped sweetie made of chocolate … now that ain’t an everyday activity what the parents can give to their kids. Of course an experienced masters will guide and teach the tricks as well.

This year again just like last year the visitors may vote for their favorite producer’s based on their votes. choose product you prefer the most among all the different delights and tick on the leaflet your favorite producer. Simply as that! Just an appetizer … go back to my last year’s update where ya can also see last year’s winner, the “Honey Museum” from the Békésszentandrás Brewery.

AS W!ZZAIR SAYS … WALK ON … WALK OFF! … AT THE BUDAPEST AIRPORT

Wizz Air confirms terminal bus service at Budapest Airport Current airport walking and tent boarding don’t meet

Wizz Air’s safety and service standards.

Budapest, 12th November 2012: Wizz Air, Hungary’s low-cost, low-fare airline, today confirmed its return to bussing passengers during boarding and disembarkation of all its Budapest flights from tomorrow, 13th November. Over the last week the airline has tested a low-cost facility proposed by Budapest Airport which did not allow for Wizz Air to carry passengers by bus. To use these temporary facilities passengers have to wait outside in tents to board their flights.

After carefully monitoring this trial and collecting passenger feedback on it, Wizz Air now confirms it will return to its original procedure of using busses to comfortably and safely carry passengers to and from the aircraft as the temporary low-cost facilities proposed by Budapest Airport do not comply with Wizz Air service and safety standards.  Should these low-cost facilities and processes significantly improve, Wizz Air will evaluate the airport proposal again.

Daniel de Carvalho, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air, said: “Wizz Air is always open to work with its airport partners to ensure lower costs and lower airfares. Just seven months ago Wizz Air agreed to move from Terminal 1 at Budapest to Terminal 2, to help the airport lowering its own operational costs. We certainly welcome the airport’s commitment to find new ways to lower costs by suggesting different boarding procedures and Wizz Air happily tested these and collected passenger’s opinion. On behalf of our passengers  we cannot accept substandard facilities such as those currently in place at Budapest Airport, that effectively leave passengers in the cold waiting to board their aircraft with no access to sanitation nor adequate protection of adverse weather conditions. We do not compromise on these standards and until a much improved customer friendly solution is proposed by the airport, Wizz Air will provide a bus service for its passengers to and from the aircraft.”

Lilith’s Legacy

When we first saw Lilith there was a blizzard outside. It was on the second of November that we first saw her and this date is burned into our memories forever! Her home was wonderful, packed with paintings and sprawling plants. It reminded us of the Garden of Eden. When she talked about art, she was so passionate that we felt like she had demonic forces inside of her. We loved to listen to her stories! From her narrations we found out that she has been everywhere, almost as she has lived for centuries. When she entered a room, all attention was directed to her. Her exquisite taste always drew attention, she was a phenomenon. Everyone was wondering who this woman was. She had many worshipers, and adorers, and many who were envious of her. Passionate about clothes, she always attuned her look, red colors with a chrome red jacket and a matching nice hairdo.

The stories we heard reveal that she is not happy when she hears the name Eve, despite of it being a very nice name. We know that one of her former partner’s heart was stolen by an Eve. She was a strong woman full of pride and mystery. When looking at a painting her voice fainted and she said it reminded her of her first husband. How many husbands did she have actually?

Lilith can no longer be with us, but her admirers and followers will never forget her.

Her name remains with us forever. We will never forget those week-ends that we spent at her house, which were like days spent in Paradise.

Her seven young admirers would like to honor her loving memory with an exhibition to show her great personality. We would like to invite everyone, (those who knew her and those, who didn’t) to remember her or to get to know her in her heritage exhibition held in the Ari Kupsus Gallery.

During the exhibition wine will be served sponsored by the Sümegi winecellar  – Keller Ltd.

Put your comfy shoes on cause to visit the ArtMarketFair,  if you decided so … get ready to see the 100 stands and meet, talk with the 400 artists.

I’m generally attracted to strong, bold, graphic pieces. I like expressive art and definitely think that art can spark conversations. Not everything will appeal to everyone, but that’s O.K. That’s not what it should be about. I believe half of the enjoyment of art is in the spontaneous discussions that arise. Well at the ArtMarketFair you sure will get into the mood.

Now  … Let’s see some foreigner artists who are out there at the Millenium Park.

There are foreigners introducing their works in various field of art, design, music and in the stage of fashion. The international artists project is known as  Art-in-Fusion.
