 9th  Korean Film Festival!

November, 8 -12. 2016.

Opening Ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. Sugár Cinema  – Budapest

November rain is usually considered this time of year, but this time it’s not about the weather it is about the forthcoming 9th occasion to the Korean Film Festival.

Make yourself free for those coming days, cause the Korean Cultural Center brings the best Korean films to the Hungarian cinemas … friendship and betrayal, love and passion, tears of laughter and poignant pain, showcases a cavalcade of emotions, which will be worth to get involved!

The Korean films will be screened outside of Budapest between November, 11 and 12 and the Korean film fans at Debrecen, Szeged and Pécs can also look forward for brilliant movie nights.

At the opening screening in Budapest, on the November, 8. at  6 p.m. the audience can watch The Royal Tailor. The 127-minute long movie boasts more than 1,000 hand-made hanboks (Korean traditional female attire) of royal splendor, worthy to the Title. The films protagonist is Gongdzsin, an autonomous young tailor, with pre-age ideas. We can fallow him through his career and intrigue-filled life. The numerous audience award-winning artwork operates with beautiful scenery and stunning settings. It worldwide gained new fans for the Korean cinema.

In 2007 the Hungarian audience were surprisingly grateful and welcomed the 1st. Korean Film Week event. During the six days they could watch eight unforgettable movies, including Park Chan-Wook’s Demilitarized Zone: JSA from the Year 2000. Those who were interested in Korean films know the director in connection with the international film hit, Oldboy. Today, in 2016, 20 prominent films process in the program. As from 2014 every year, the screenings in the chief towns raise the prestige of the film festival.  The Handmaiden (Agassi), which had its debut as a competitor at the Cannes and Toronto Film Festival in 2016. Thanks to the erotic thrillers significance, and the good relationship with the film’s Hungarian distributor.

The Handmaiden will be screened four times at the 9th Korean Film Festival: twice in Budapest, at Sugár Cinema – District, XIV., 24 Örs vezér Square and one time occasion outside the capital  at both cinemas in Debrecen at the Apollo Cinema – 1. Miklós Street  and  at Szeged – Belvárosi Cinema – 3. Vaszy Viktor Square and at Pécs – Apollo Cinema – Perczel Mór Street.

Mind you  the 9th Korean Film Festival is not just about movies, it holds much more … talks about the Korean everyday, the customs, the culture, and the food through the images. It shows the Korean people’s both beautiful and bizarre side. So it is recommended to those who have long been engaged in the Korean cultural circles and those who have just tasted it. This is suggested by this year’s motto to: Get involved! As the “bibimbap”, which show the Korean culinary’s versatility, the festival combines many flavours too, among which we can choose the most satisfying for ourselves; then mix them and got a whole new flavor, film- and culture impression.

The 9th Korean Film Festival tickets can be purchased on the spot at the Sugar Cinema and outside the capital’s cinemas for 500HUF.

Reopening – Reconstructed Central Theater – Budapest 2016.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

This morning was opened the renewed foreground of the Central Theater on the Révay Street in Budapest.  The totally reconstructed, modern lobby was introduced to the invited guest. István Tarlós – Mayor of Budapest at the opening event said that nearly 50 years, there was no major reconstruction of the building, so the time has come for restructuring this fine community center, where non-less-known fabulous actors left their names and footsteps.

The Central Theater significantly contributes to the success of theater life in Budapest and now is prominent on the European level.

The current renovation met to-day’s expectations with the renewed community space.  The theater’s troupe by their own power, without the support of the capital has achieved its mission, emphasized the Mayor. The major went back-in-time by recalling the early days function of the building, which was an entertainment platform for over 120 years. Within the institution’s walls functioned as a club in 1918 and since 2008 has been ongoing as the Central Theater. The mayor has promised to soon complete the currently maintained privatization of the theater, as to be initiative accomplished within Tamás Puskás plan. The theater director recalled, that there was still entertainment shows within the walls for almost 120-year-old in the institution. Also as a club initially worked in 1918  and until 2008 was known as  the Central Theater that significantly contributes to the success of theater life in Budapest, which is now prominent on the European level. The mayor has promised to soon complete the capital currently maintained by the privatization of the theater, and as Tamás Puskás added he believes to be successful is to be able to achieve the plans.

Tamás Puskás – theater director recalled that in 2003 when they moved into this building, till then operating as an Amusement Stage, the troupe immediately began in rebuilding it. The theater was absolutely wornout. The audience sooner or later  slowly left  its venue. To-day we can say that we are in this building as landlords and hopefully we will be the tenants in the audience hearts who are loving to go to the theater. Also adding that the renovation, in which the changing rooms next to the foyer and organizational housed part of the building was renovated as well.

During the official opening attended the representatives of Central Theater  artists and supporters, as Juli Básti, András Kern, Mari Törőcsik, Peter Haumann, Antal Cerna,  Attila Magyar, Zoltán Schmied and Iván Verebély aged 78 who plays in two pieces as well. Törőcsik, the 80-year-old actress stressed that this theater is particularly important as it bounds to the names of Tamás Puskás and Juli Básti, adding … Q.: “Juli for me recalls as the great actresses and she is one of those as a great actress!” Puskás has created a marvelous theater, which cultivates a high level of entertainment and this is what has always been expected of good theaters.

Reminder … the performances are in Hungarian language.

The Fall’s Festival of Museums – Visiting Hatvan and Gödöllő – Hungary

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

A study trip organized by the Hungarian Tourist Agency jointly with the Museum of Education and Training Centers was to get aquainted with the cities of Hatvan and Gödöllő  rich programs offered for families with children. The study tour first stop was arriving to Hatvan where the journalists received information at the Zsigmond Széchenyi Museum of Hunting. The museum is a real adventure place. Open from 10 a.m-. – 6 p.m. except on Mondays. The museum was named after Count Zsigmond Széchenyi  who was an aristocrat like, being not only a hunter, but also a writer who deeply cared for nature? The Museum is an “advantureville”!  View the world record antler trophies, trunks, life documentary on the life of the count with hunting stories, old guidebooks, hunting textbooks which are all displayed. His main destination for hunting was Africa … Traditionally, there are four major European systems of hunting: the Scandinavian, the Anglo-Saxon, the Mediterranean and the German. Historically, Hungary belongs to the German system.

Taking a visit at the Hunting Museum, where our guide in brief spoke about the following: Q:“Hunting is a part of human history and culture. Its significance is well illustrated by the birth of the goddesses of the hunt in antiquity (Artemis in Ancient Greece and Diana in Ancient Rome). In the Middle Ages hunting was considered to be one of the “mechanical arts”. Out on display were weaving, blacksmithing, architecture, navigation, agriculture, theater and craftsmen. We were introduced to a couple of tips worthwhile to visit as the history of Huntsmanship, exploring the wildlife of the Carpathian Basin. Enjoyed the interactive computer games, learn about the landscapes, forests and wild animal species, fishing and angling tools such as weir, harpoon, spinning reel and carbon fibre used formerly that are today out on displayed. We strolled down to the everyday life to the baroque kitchen, where they roasted the meat on skewers, examined the spices is use, also seen refined methods of preparing already recorded in the 15th century.

The museum holds special educational programs for classes to elementary pupil monitoring animals not even seen at the Hungary’s zoo. One of the highlights of the visit was spending time at the Hunting Adventure with rotating, prepared animals arena with target shooting assessments that was offered to try by the journalists.  Introduced the complete virtual interactive programs  in leaning and the cautions in hunting. At all venues there were trainers all along to guide the visitors. Outside the museum at the nicely decorated park everyone could have given it try to reach the exit  way  on a 33-meter-long adventure slide and see the surrounding view at 15.5 meter lookout point. Arriving down to a hedge labyrinth of the vineyard path.

The Royal Castle at Gödöllő is the second largest Palace in Hungary and most probably, the only sophisticated, stunning venue in Europe. This is where our day’s second tour took place. Before entering the press meeting, we viewed a 15 minutes 3D movie getting an insight into the everyday lives of the of royal family. The press meeting was held by …. at the Baroque Theater.

Thereafter, was welcomed by Tibor Göncz – Managing Director, Kinga Máté Mártonné  –  Hungarian Tourist Agency, Gabriella Kajári –  Co-ordinating officer at Education and Methodology Center Museum Open Air Museum.  The managing director opened the press meeting  and spoked about the following: The Royal Palace of Gödöllő with its superb park and halls are suitable for hosting several hundred people, also feature plenty of activities and participating at several programs.  The historical building complex is also a perfect spot for concerts and theater performances, family programs, museum educational activities for teachers – museumpedagogy, also for children introducing the history of Queen Elisabeth and King Franz Joseph of their everyday spent here from the Fall to Spring. The education presentation is 60-90 minutes depending from the kindergarten age up to higher grades of elementary school, and/or high school students. We were taken by a guided tour around the rooms and halls at the Royal Palace. Participated at a shorten version of the museum’s educational presentation for children.

Before the end of our visit went down to view the former Governer  Miklós Horthy’s bunker, which actually was not completely finish at the time being by the outbreak of the World War II. The German and Russian troops invading in 1944 carried away and/or destroyed most of the furnishings. From 1950 the Soviet troops were stationed in the outbuilding and the bunker and before leaving they filled the bunker with petrol and even though decades past there is slightly the smell of it. The walls have some original color lines which are still to-day cannot be identified their means. So Horthy and his wife never stayed there, but with notes and pictures from the time being it was rebuilt and furnished the way it was planed to be.

Kinga Máté Mártonné  –  Hungarian Tourist Agency – Co-ordinating manager – Education and Methodology Center Museum – Open Air Museum talked about the past programs and present occupations, programs for children and adults in particular, to visit the palace during the series of the Fall’s festival of Museum. Especially, keeping in mind the upcoming Fall’s break  at the schools in Hungary. During this time of season families choose to go on vacation with their children, but mainly  visiting one of the wellness venues, which is fine, but beside enjoying the part-time in and around the spas, it is also fine time to take advantage of the opportunity to also visit, see the city’s sights, environment, its famous museums during their stay.

Gödöllő is only kilometers distance from Budapest and tourists arriving to Budapest can spice up their stay  in Hungary by taking a visit to this unique environment with its picturesque park to the Royal Palace at Gödöllő. To visit the venue need not to pick up a car to reach the spectacular scene, because can manage by rolling on the steam train, having a nostalgia trip from the Western Railway Station – Budapest to the Royal Waiting Room in Gödöllő. The awesome train station with its small museum on the spot definitely worth to see before heading to the Royal Palace.

At the Gödöllő City Museum was introduced the Fairy Garden program by Balázs Fábián – deputy director. The „Shock and Pigtail pupets”is a program in helping children to get acquainted by playing, taking in hand – feeling items. It is rather important for the next generation not just to click on the gadjest, but to get aquainted to visit a museum as a worthwhile place to go. To-day most of the children usually say … „Don’t want to go to the museum, because  have to be quite … cannot touch anything … nor sit … neither play around with anything”. Here the children can touch items and hear the history behind their use. The families in addition, are presented the museum’s new feature, to join interactive guided tour since the 9th of September, 2016. The renewed exhibition title is  “Our City” introducing its “Gödöllő Artist Colony”.

Miklós Vámos – “A Hattyúk Dala” – “The Swan’s Song” – historical novel – 2016.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Upon invitation by Publisher of Europe, took part at a premiere venue walk and by attending the presentation at the Bóbita Theater in the city of Pécs. Rolling along the city’s major scenes of the novel was as back in time of a historical travel, where our footsteps took us back two thousand years. It is not by accident chosen venue … the writer believes that there he was conceived nearly 66 years ago. We stopped at significant buildings when and where as the great story-teller spoke about the city, the people and its tribe history. Started with its present, and retreat back into the past ages places and buildings. “A Hattyúk Dala” – “The Swan’s Song”  is his latest historical novel that took him around 5 years to complete it. It is a sort of Epic kinds of prose. The reader can start the novel at any chapter’s page. There has no context stories. The book is extensive, and not just because of its over-weight :-).  Within the short chapters we comfortable learn about the places history. We simply roll over to the next chapter without a notice we have reached another time zone.  The chapters are not in the traditional way related to each other. The book appeared this year in October.  The Book’s presentation took place at the Bóbita Theater, whereas the 180-seat theater was full with not only local residents who most probably all had a jolly-good day. They say about author he never smiles … well at Pécs exploring the venues  and during his presentation several times on his face a trace of smiles appeared … maybe he was in good company.

As the poet said beside others at his presentation … Q .: “I always try to write a book, which I also like to read. I’m happy if my book is a success, but I’m trying not to comply anyone. I believe that who is afraid of failure, never reach will the real success.”

Would be a long stage to present all the poet’s literature life, but it deserves to mention at least two stage  of them … He spent 2 years at the Fulbright scholarship as a visiting professor in the States, whereas he taught at Yale School of Drama – City University of N.Y. and other universities film and drama faculties.  In his early age was a rock musician in the Guerrilla band, he is a.k.a. known as Tibor Vámos.

Till present day his 39 volumes have been published. He wrote novels, dramas, short stories, film scenarios.

One thing to draw your attention and mind you „A Hayttúk Dala” – The Swan’s Song”  was written in Hungarian language, but hopefully here in Hungary and around the world there will be readers to enjoy the book who bear Hungarian knowledge.

This play is needless to say, worth seeing … unfortunately or not this heralding production on stage is in Hungarian language, but the English-speaking folks having Hungarian as well savvy viewers will enjoy this superb line of actors performance directed by Róbert Alföldi.

In brief …  Power or Love … that is the Question!

Marlowe’s Edward II is a play about desire and how public and political worlds are determined and constituted by private forces. Marlowe presents us with a dark, dangerous and ambiguous vision of the human condition. For Edward, desires imperatives are absolute and he will do anything in his power to pursue his love even if it eclipses the law and threatens to destroy his Kingdom.

The play explores how excess and passion always leads to catastrophe and destruction. A historical tragedy that although written in the XVI. century, transcends time and speaks to our everyday world where the personal is political and the political is always driven by the personal.

The play is performed by: Ernő Fekete Tamás Jordán, Gyabronka Joseph, David Szatory, Zalán Makranczi, Csilla Radnay, Márton Patkós, Balázs Mihályfi, Balázs Medveczky Szabolcs Fabian, Dóra Sztarenki.
