CELEBRATION OF SILLINESS

January 7,

Fans around the world of the British comedy group Monty Python perform their skills throughout the Globe!

Just a short reminder how it all started… Monty Python was credited with creating a new type of comedy with the Flying Circus.

In the episode of Monty Python’s Flying Circus, a British television comedy that ran from ’69 to ’74. John Cleese with a bowler hat, briefcase, goofy gait kicks up his legs, shuffles his feet and combines polka steps with twists while heading over to his office at the Ministry of Silly Walks.

So besides performing live, they went on to shoot hit films including “Life of Brian”, “The Meaning of Life” and “Monty Python and the Holy Grail”.

Rolling along Ludwig Goes Pop + The East Side Story … A Pop Art journey at the Ludwig Museum

A journey at the Ludwig Museum  into the world  of … Ludwig Goes Pop + The East Side Story

Sunday, January, 3. 2016.

Excellently designed with superb taste introducing the ’60s and 70’s worldwide pop art talents works!

To-day,  the audience arriving to the exhibition were able to participate on a pop art  tour guided by the curator Katalin Timár. These were her words in the brief …  Quote:  “The art collection brought together by Peter and Irene Ludwig is the foundation of all Ludwig Museums. Perhaps the most well-known and famous part of this collection is the body of artworks that represents the period of Pop Art. It is unique in the sense that in addition to the iconic works of the most well-known Pop artists (Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, Claes Oldenburg, Robert Rauschenberg, Andy Warhol, Tom Wesselmann, etc.), it comprises pieces by less famous ones (Allan D’Arcangelo, Richard Lindner, etc.), along with artworks by the European representatives of this tendency (Peter Blake, Richard Hamilton, David Hockney, Mimmo Rotella). The collection of the Ludwig Museums alone is abundant for creating a survey exhibition of international Pop Art.

The allure of Pop Art lies in the fact – made evident by this exhibition – that succeeding the abstract tendencies, which had kept a considerable distance from the audience, it reintroduced a kind of figurative representation into the contemporary art of the time, which, owing to its everyday references, was familiar and seemingly easy to interpret for the public.  At the same time, paradoxically, these works provide a critique of consumer society by translating the mechanism of daily consumption into art, offering the artworks (i.e. consumer products) to the spectators. This is also true of representations that already criticize a specific subject, such as the Vietnam war, the representational modes in mass media.

The exhibition is partly realized as a collaboration of the Ludwig Museums; prior to the Budapest show, it was on display at the Ludwig Museums of Cologne and then Vienna. In the Budapest version, the exhibition is complemented with works by Hungarian and East-European artists (Ilona Keserü, Gyula Konkoly, László Lakner, Siskov Ludmil, Zsuzsa Szenes, Boris Bućan, Vera Fischer, Tomislav Gotovac, Dušan Otašević, Sanja Iveković, Běla Kolářová, Jana Želibská, Natalia LL, Stano Filko, Julius Koller, Marko Pogačnik, etc.). On the one hand, these pieces are based on the use of everyday objects in the period, and on the other hand, they provide a line-up of local cultural references. Indirectly, the exhibition also explores how the notions of “Western” art history can be interpreted in a context where the social and cultural conditions for the emergence of this tendency were fundamentally different from the original scenes where Pop Art had been created.

Beside many others the collaborating partners: The Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Wien, The Museum Ludwig, Cologne, The Kunstmuseum Basel – Museum für Gegenwartskunst.

Tangerine Movie – Xmas Eve – Premier – Hungary – 2015

Tangerine_still

Tangerine – December, 24. arrives to be screened in Hungary!

American film with Hungarian subtitles – directed by Sean Baker

Tangerine … drama … sharp style of comedy …  pop art movie … indie film shot solely on three iPhones cameras.

By the praises of the critics surrounded at the Sundance debut, was spread that they were blown away by Sean Baker’s vibrant and original transgender movie, romp through the back streets of L.A.  Also collected a fair number of nominations at the Independent Spirit Awards as Best Director, Best Feature Film, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress categories … as it was recently published. In addition to the international film competitions, within the domestic CineFest jury and the audience, the film was very much appreciated.

The basic story of Tangerine, a transgender comedy in extreme close-up, unfolds on Xmas Eve, sources of firsthand insight by Kitana Kiki Rodriguez and Mya Taylor, the two trans women of color who star as Sin-Dee and Alexandra, a pair of transgender working girls and best friends. They both are sex workers in the informal red light district of Los Angeles. The character’s emotions are strikes of colors as electricity.

Tangerine is pithy as hell and hugely entertaining from beginning to the end, but it’s also moving, partly because of what it shows of the daily struggle of its characters. Just released from prison in time for Xmas day, and the two meet up in a diner and Alexandra accidentally lets slip that Sin-Dee’s pimp boyfriend has been cheating on her … the rest is to be seen what follows on the tenacious romp through the back streets of Tinseltown.

Baker’s film takes us on a journey through the struggles and joys of marginalised trans people in American society. Crime, prostitution and drug abuse are touched on in a candid snapshot of life on the streets of Los Angeles. Baker is preoccupied with showing all the challenges of impoverished life on the streets, whilst presenting a warm portrait of female friendship.  Also taking the audience on a journey through the struggles and joys of marginalised trans people.

It is the most unconventional Xmas film to be seen this year, there’s not much tinsel here in Tinseltown, but Tangerine does leave its viewers feeling its warmth and humor long after the credits roll.

Tangerine should  … and no doubt will  … trigger a wider cultural conversation about the marginalisation of trans culture in modern cinema. Here is a teaser… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALSwWTb88ZU

So if you think Tangerine isn’t for you, think again … this rip-roaring ride through Sunset Boulevard is surprisingly accessible..

Tangerine, comes from the colour of the L.A. sunset and is as juicy and tangy as the movie name itself.
