This is a tradition, not only our wallets, but also as an aphrodisiac of love lives … “upload yourself”. We all feel that our life is especially important in the New Year period, we vow, we try to establish the New Year with good luck as well. As a tradition on the first day of the new year eat lentils, it symbolize not to have empty our wallet throughout the year. Superstitions strength lies in the fact that many small frontal stands as a symbol of money.

The ancient Greeks particularly liked the lentil soup and as known was primarily food of the poor and among the nobility did not become popular.

It is considered an aphrodisiac, Aphrodite by the Greeks since antiquity, one of the symbols of the goddess of love was considered… and ont he other hand the lentil works good to our health because it contains antioxidants, high in fiber, low on fat, an excellent source of vegetable protein and stimulates the immune system.

On New Year’s Eve no-one will be disappointed at the Basilica feast, where on this day not only the mulled wine will pay the main role. The party starter goes with sparkling wines or assort of fruity pálinka drinks and orange fooled punch, hot cocktails and for the tough folks may give it a try to even the 60% of Pálinka. Naturally, will go on the 3D light painting on the walls of the Basilica and music all night.

The ice rink still will be awaiting children under 14 years old with ice-skate renting option at hand.

Make the St. Stephen Square the main meeting point in Budapest to get together with family and friends. Enjoy the bustle and where each minute will be a real treat.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Distinguish guest and press individuals were invited to the  Cimbaliband’s latest CD and cassette “Recycle live show at the Katlan Toni Restaurant and Mill at Veresegyház. The band’s joyful music in every inch was a superb partying.  During the evening the flavors of Katlan Toni’s  kitchen delights surely wiggled all senses of men and women.

The Cimbaliband was founded in 2006, and in a wink burst into being the favorite within the young audience of their folk based world music.

The Cimbaliband plays a mixture of modern Eastern European folk music. Also their music sources stem from different sources: Hungarian folk music, classical music, jazz, Balkan folk music, jazz and rock’n’roll… so all-in-one they are a real “multi-culti” band. The members of the band is a mixture  of musicians … Serbian – accordion, Hungarian – violinist and vocals, bassist – Roma, jazz drummer – Croatia, Swabian-Hungarian – dulcimer and guitar and above all Dóra Danics,  former winner of Xfactor – Hungary -2013, the female voice that spice up the formation. Those energies that were and are previously only fo nd in rock music has also gain a place in the folk music.

The band over the past 10  years had held concerts throughout Hungary and also traveled abroad having great success in Europe. The band was traveling in many countries, play music together with Romanian, Spanish, Serbs, Italians and from playing music together with these musicians they brought influences as a small memorial and included in the form of their music.

The Cimbaliband is an authentically clunky clash of Hungary’s folk music in style of rocky-rock’n’roll.The magical Hungarian instrument, the dulcimer and wherever Balázs Unger step on stage playing on the dulcimer is mentioned as „Dulcimer of Chuck Berry”

The band presented several songs from their new CD and the audience took great pleasure hearing their latest music.

And on the bottom line the name … Katlan Toni’s kitchen is not only covering a man, but the restaurant’s whole team. This team cooks for nearly 20 years delicious dishes which are prepared just and only with domestic raw materials. Furthermore, all the soft drinks, home-made beer from the Fót brewery. Furthermore, paying great attention to serve the worthy famous Pálinka also made exclusively for the restaurant. So if wish to taste these delights have to spear time to visit the place, cause the drinks are only available on the spot. Oh and here is some snaps as an appetizer

Hearld News: … Those who have already heard the band’s music and  humming the songs and for those who have missed to see/hear them before, then on Sunday from 6 p.m. -7 p.m. December, 18, may catch up by visiting the City Hall Park – District, V., Károly Blvd. – Budapest.

In Honor – Willis Conover – Memorial Concert … “Time for Jazz” – Hungary

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Swing and Big Band all in One!

An awesome press news was lately announced at the Hollán Ernő Street on the press conference at the

Budapest Jazz Club.

To-day, Willis Conover voice is history, but for many was one of the most famous in the world on the radio band Voice of America hitting jazz music which was one of the most popular and influential shows. To commemorate the presenter absence who went ahead 20 years ago a superb concert will be held at May – 2017. The theme of the showtime will be “Voice of Millions” which is true word-by-word.

On stage beside other distinguished musicians and singers will be hosted by Levente Szörényi and the Budapest Jazz Orchestra.

The Hungarian audience will be lucky enough to see/hear three times in Hungary at three locations in 2017: May, 24. Palace of Arts – Budapest, May, 27. Kölcsey Center – Debrecen, and June, 2. Kodály Center – Pécs. These venues were especially chosen as sites of its professional acoustics to have the perfect experience said producer – Örs Szörényi. Added, the tickets to all three locations are out on sale already through the Internet.

“The Voice of America” broadcasting on shortwave radio started its show as “Jazz Hour” which was launched on January, 6. 1955. He was the man with velvety baritone, clarity, speaking slowly,  the unique editor of broadcasting American jazz music. As Levente Szörényi expressed: Q.: “Living behind the Iron Curtain, the European jazz musicians and enthusiasts in these broadcasts could meet the standard American jazz performers and cassette tape recorded and analyzed the topics, harmonies and rhythms. In the late ’60s,’70s and ’80s listened regularly to Conover updates of his visited jazz festivals. Appromaximetly, 30 million people worldwide listened to his presentations broadcasted over the Voice of America and every night he welcomed his music fans by saying … “Time for Jazz”.

Actually the idea to fold, organize a concert in saluting the memory of Willis Conover was by Levente Szörényi about two years ago, said at the conference co-producer and artistic director Béla Piri.  It also emerged in the beginning to be the “host” Budapest Jazz Orchestra providing the musical basis and also a question to whether have the program splitted in two parts.  Finally made the decision of having the show in two parts.

The concert will shoot off with really true Conover style by to-day’s one of the best in the European jazz industry  and world-famous – Joan Faulkner. Completely authentic medium, swing and jazz evergreens interpreter, attended an American gospel choir, brings unique vibration, but also is in the house of repertoire: jazz, blues, soul, pop range of motion.

At the second part of the show rolls on with Levente Szörényi’s songs from the era of the Illés and Fonográf hits. These songs will come to life within the big band orchestration. Szörényi – Kossuth Prize-winning composer, performer, beat and country songs composer, as well as the 30’s, 40’s style jazz’s sounds came alive on stage. For sure these songs will be a real highlight of the evening to the former fans of that era.

Levente Szörényi open his memoryline by saying: Q.: “When the Voice of America launched in 1955 by Willis Conover, I was just ten years old. At home during the evening listened closely to great broadcasts because. It is only because at the time being the wall had ears! To that extent caught and preserved so that radiated throughout my life. At the Pest Kálmán high-school before realising somehow brought together a trio, and later in the Mediterranean ensemble as well we were playing jazz. I would like to commemorate this early impression. Wish to play songs which are not forced to have it with a Big Band and also performing as soloists, which would take place in the second part of the event. A surprise is not a surprise when telling something about it, anyway just whispering sometime that in the second part of the show will be conducting the band of one of my favorite heard tune during my high-school years which was a country number – Count Basie – „Splanky”.

The domestic swing – “Duke” Bálint Gajer said he wasn’t born yet in the sixties, and have not listened to jazz, but for him the first time he got acquainted with music was as being a drum player and only much later met this genre. Then he switched standing up from the drum and came in front of the stage in 2009, winning the III. “Jazzy” Jazz Song Contest receiving  the title of “Best Male Vocalist” award Jazz singer-performer. Graduated in 2010 at the Franz Liszt Music Academy and became decisive for Frank Sinatra, and in the era of the music. This show will be time capsule with a bit of the dance music from way back. Also previously worked with the Budapest Jazz Orchestra has and will swing again, reach its deserved place in the world of today’s music. In November, this year was released his second independent album, the “Swing’ N ‘Pop” which is a real emotional roller coaster. The songs talk about love, the classic Latin beats of swing songs and definitely pop songs will entertain the audience.

The orchestra’s mission in addition to contemporary jazz, big band music cultivate a relationship with the genre’s roots. The aim with this series of concert is to pass on to the young generation gain a professional experience of the past era’s music. Although the word “jazz” is not for everyone as the term to “green light”, but upon recent years can observe that the great American singers, big band concerts also give voice to jazz.  That is to say, a jazz is like a symphony in classical music. There are several ways and is able to speak to the audience, said by Gábor Kollman – saxophonist – Director of the Budapest Jazz Orchestra.

The host for the evenings will be Ákos Kőszegi –Jászai Mari-winning actor.

Halper/Hendrix Experiment and Randy Brecker

Tickets can be purchased on the spot…. prices: 2900HUF, 3500HUF,  4500HUF

The precursor to tonight’s production is the Band of Gypsys Reincarnation founded by inventive guitarist -László Halper. The formation released its first album in collaboration with the legendary trumpeter Randy Brecker in 2010. The album entitled 40 Years After – put out on the 40th anniversary of the death of Jimi Hendrix – garnered a positive review in DownBeat, the world’s number one specialist jazz magazine. In 2012, Halper paid tribute to the memory of Jimi Hendrix with a major concert at Müpa Budapest to mark the 70th anniversary of the guitar virtuoso’s birth. On that occasion, two world stars in drummer – Steve Gadd and bassist – Eddie Gomez made up the rhythm section, while István Fekete played trumpet. The recording of the concert was released CD on 27 November 2013 (Hendrix’s birthday) and was entitled Electric Angelland.

The natural continuation of all this is the Halper/Hendrix Experiment, which plays Jimi Hendrix numbers in their own jazz interpretation. The band leader has been joined by an outstanding cimbalom ( dulcimer) – Kálmán Balogh, whose virtuoso play gives the quartet an unmistakable sound and style. A regular guest at clubs and festivals in Transylvania as well as Hungary, the Halper/Hendrix Experiment is completed by Zsolt Kosztyu –bass and László Hajas – drums. Their latest album entitled Szimpla koncert was released in 2015.

For the closing concert of this year’s Jazz Workshop, the 70-year-old Brecker Randy, who himself is a living history of jazz, returns as the band’s special guest. His career as a performer and composer that has run since 1967 is a guarantee of the high-quality of the perfect fusion of rock and jazz.
