At the Hollókő Easter Festival, “a woman does not stay dry” – as the slogan of the event says, and indeed!

The traditional way of celebration,  one of the most well-known Easter customs is sprinkling. At Easter, girls dressed in traditional folk costumes must be   well doused with a bucket of cold water to prevent them from withering, because according to legend, fresh Easter water preserves the girls’ beauty.

Thousands of people visit this small village every year to learn about and experience Hungarian Easter traditions. The individuals at the Old Town still to-day wear their traditional  colorful costums, kept their rich folklore, folk customs, with the inevitable sprinkling, concerts, handicraft demonstrations, Easter Egg Painting Yard, family and children’s programs provide unforgettable experiences in Hollókő during these three days. Will be awaiting Hungarian and foreigner visitors to this real countryside village during the occasion of Easter! The Easter Festival is a celebration of traditions and joie de vivre, where “Old Village” and its surroundings taking back in time to experience the atmosphere of the traditional Hungarian Easter!

Hollókő Old Village,  is also on the UNESCO World Heritage List, where 67 red-tile historic houses have preserved their original condition and look the same as they did a hundred years ago. The specialty of Hollókő is that it is still a living and functioning village and visitors can feel as if they have stepped into a folk tale.

Distance between Hollókő  – Nógrád County and Budapest by car on M3 Highway cca. 101 km , or 63 miles. Distance by car takes around 76 minutes or 1 hour.

Metronóm Jazz Club Concert Series @ Pécs

The Metronóm Jazz Club, has been operating for 23 years, bringing the best jazz musicians to the Zsonay Quarter @ the City of Pécs. Same will be in the air this year as well.

(Pécs lies between the South Transdanubian region of rolling hills and lush forests of Hungary. The Mediterranean-style city was awarded European Capital of Culture title in 2010, and, in fact, that city has preserved this status even today. Of the city`s countless attractions, Zsolnay Cultural Quarter, declared to be a Hungaricum (a unique Hungarian product or attraction) in 2014.
Anyone can freely enter the park of the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter during the opening hours (from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.) and stay there freely. Public cameras help to preserve the integrity of the cultural district.)

Niki Vörös, Jr. Béla Szakcsi, Boggie and see below others! The club has become a quality brand that is trusted by jazz lovers and has developed a permanent fan base, but there are always new interested parties who are just getting to know the genre. During the monthly concert series in the Zsolnay Quarter, a different style of jazz will take place each time. We show you this season!

Áron Tálas Trio – March, 8. 20.00, Zsolnay Quarter – E78 Concert Hall … The versatility of Áron Tálas, winner of the Junior Prima, Gramofon and Artisjus awards, and the best Hungarian keyboard player by the readers of jazzma.hu and jazz.hu, is well known. The band has created an individual sound world, in which folk music and classical music influences can be seen in action, in addition to the harmonic and rhythmic elements of jazz.

Károly Gáspár Trio feat. Zita Gerebenm –  April, 18 ., 8 p.m., Zsolnay Quarter … Pianist Károly Gáspár is one of the defining figures of the Hungarian jazz scene. With his trio, they perform both their own compositions and jazz standards. Their music is fresh and progressive, romantic and aestheticizing, but at the same time respects the traditions of mainstream jazz.

Szakcsi Jr. Renaissance –  May, 8., 8 p.m., Zsolnay Quarter … The formation plays modern jazz in a popular form while maintaining the harmonious world of demanding jazz. This is fusion music, which places great emphasis on dynamics. Their repertoire gives a taste of different eras of jazz, but romantic and modern themes of classical music also appear. The formation is based on the singing voice, which is not performed as a song, but as an instrument.

Vörös Niki New Project ( see photo) – June 20., 8 p.m. Zsolnay Quarter … Niki Vörös’ own compositions combine elements of blues, rock and jazz. The songs are defined by Niki’s strong, passionate performance expressing raw emotions, complemented by the energetic, unique playing style of prominent Hungarian musicians.

Blonde Niki Quintet –  July 18 _ 21.00, Zsolnay Quarter … Nikoletta Szőke, winner of the Montreux competition and winner of the Junior Prima Prize, is one of the country’s most popular jazz performers. In addition to domestic concert halls and festivals, he performed with great success in New York, Tokyo, Brussels, Copenhagen, London and Berlin, singing with Michel Legrand, Bobby McFerrin, Kurt Elling and Gregory Hutchinson, among others.

Boggie-Stay More Tour –  August, 15. 9 p.m., Zsolnay Quarter … Boggie Csemer Boglárka is a Phonogram and Hangvilla prize-winning performer. Ten years ago, he toured the world with his song Parfüm and the brilliant video clip created for it. He represented our country at the 60th Eurovision Song Contest, but he also performed as a backing band for ZAZ.

Balázs Bágyi Visegrád Jazz Band –  September, 12. , 8 p.m., Zsolnay Quarter … The project band was created thanks to a V4 tender, and its members are outstanding artists from each country.

Subtones – October, 17. , 8 p.m., Zsolnay Quarter … Founded by trumpeter Gábor Subicz, Subtones is one of Hungary’s most exciting supergroups, which has become a favorite concert band on the domestic jazz-pop scene.

Dés András Mash Trio –  November, 14., 8 p.m., Zsolnay Quarter … The formation was born from the joyous music of Iranian guitarist Mahan Mirarab and Hungarian percussionist András Dés, for whom the addition of Austrian clarinet player Vincent Pongrácz opened up a new perspective.

Dániel Hofecker – Next day sextet –  December, 5 , 8 p.m., Zsolnay Quarter … Dániel Hofecker from Pécs is one of the most talented jazz composers, arrangers and trumpet players of the young generation of musicians.

In remembrance to Pasolini’s birth on February 29, 2024., at the Art+ Cinema, operated by the Pannónia Entertainment Ltd. organizing a series of festive retrospective screenings.

Pier Paolo Pasolini was an Italian poet, film director, writer, screenwriter, actor and playwright. He is considered one of the defining public intellectuals in 20th-century Italian history, influential both as an artist and a political figure. He started filming only at the age of thirty-nine. He sublimated his own personal questions, thus leaving us a round, rich, versatile legacy. Many still to-day do not understand his art and sarcasm.

The Trilogy of Life is the summary title of Pier Paolo Pasolini’s three films shot between 1970 and 1974: The Decameron, The Canterbury Tales, The Thousand and One Nights Flowers. All three works are based on classic collections of fairy tales and short stories created in the Middle Ages. Italian censorship also banned the Decameron and the Canterbury Tales for a while. The music consultant for the trilogy was Ennio Morricone. The powerful atmosphere of the films is largely due to the authentic filming locations and the mostly amateur actors.

Based on the well-known collection of short stories by Giovanni Boccaccio, the Italian-French-GSR co-production Decameron, presented in 1971, received the Silver Bear Award (special jury award) at the 1971 West Berlin Film Festival.

The Canterbury Tales, an Italian-French co-production presented in 1972 and shot based on Geoffrey Chaucer’s fragmentary collection of fairy tales, partly finished in verse, received the Golden Bear Award (the festival’s grand prize) at the 1972 West Berlin Film Festival.

Based on the well-known Arabic collection, Tales of the Thousand and One Nights, the Italian-French feature film with the same title, shown in 1974, won the special jury prize at the 1974 Cannes Film Festival.

All 3 films are therefore based on an important, recognized work that is still included in our literary canon. While the first two are basically related to the Greek-Judeo-Christian cultural circle; in the 3rd.  is embedded in Indus, Persian, ancient Mesopotamian, Jewish, ancient Egyptian, but mainly Arab beliefs and motifs.

It is interesting that Pasolini himself plays Chaucer and Giotto in the Canterbury Tales. In Decameron, the famous director thinks about the nature of our everyday sins and the origin of our guilt. “We have been repeating the same historical crimes for three thousand years, and this strengthens the suspicion that all of this follows from our culture.” – Cheyk: Utt

Pasolini’s last work, Salò, or the 120 days of Sodom, was created as the first chapter of an “anti-trilogy”.

The press gathering was held in the morning hours at the Bulgarian Cultural Center – Budapest, concerning the topic of which was related to the upcoming International Travel Exhibition and Festival.

The 14th Francophone Film Days Just Around The Corner.

24 films – 2 Oscar nominations – 32 Cesar nominations – 17 cities, many additional programs to be present.

24 films and the biggest French stars such as: Catherine Deneuve, Léa Seydoux, Virginie Efira, Romain Duris, Vincent Cassel, Guillaume Canet – will be shown at the 14th Francophone Film Days organized by the French Institute – Budapest. The Oscar-nominated Robot Dreams and the Oscar- and César-nominated Four Sisters are also coming. The audience can personally meet the director of Salem, which debuted at Cannes, and Liv S.’s Love, nominated for 9 César Awards, and there will be a discussion about restorative justice in connection with the social drama Their Faces Are Always in Front of Me. Between March 1st and 31st, a limited selection from the program of the 14th Francophone Film Days will be presented in 16 other cities and towns throughout Hungary.

On March, 6. – 8 p.m., the film Salem, which debuted in Cannes last year, will be screened at Urania – National Film Theater. The hypnotic, lyrical work depicts the love of a black boy and a Roma girl. But in the wildest neighborhood of Marseille, the war between the two rival gangs breaks out not because the girl becomes pregnant, but because of a murder that the boy witnesses. Interview opportunity with the film’s director, Jean-Bernard Marlin.

On March, 8. - 7.30 p.m., the Swiss romantic film Liv S.’s Loves will be shown at Urania – National Film Theater. Liv, 38, recalls her old relationships in which something always went wrong. It’s time for our lovely, dreamy heroine to face her demons and accept that life is a huge emotional roller coaster. Interview opportunity with the director, Anna Luif.

30th FeHoVa Exhibition Hungexpo – Budapest

The FeHoVát exhibition taking place at the HUNGEXPO during Thursday, February, 8. – 11. to Sunday.

Those curious in Weapons, Fishing, and Hunting can open up their interest at this extrem exhibition.

More than 200 exhibitors will participate in the event. Time being FeHoVa, the FeHoVa MEOESZ International Dog Show is organized in two pavilions of HUNGEXPO.

This time, hunters and hunting-related products and services were housed in HUNGEXPO’s pavilion A, which has the largest floor area. Among the exhibitors, in addition to the Hungarians, many European countries are represented, including Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Croatia, Romania and Slovakia, but they also come to FeHoVa from countries as far away as Mauritius, Madagascar, Senegal or South Africa.

It is now a tradition that FeHoVán organizes the regular conference of the National Chamber of Agriculture for forest and wildlife management professionals. In addition to this, will there be professional presentations again this year, among other things, about the use of silencers – and visitors can try out hunting weapons at the FeHoVa shooting range.

Flash News: Hungarian Astronaut Can Make History Again.

There will be a new astronaut reaching outer space from the City of Pécs – Hungary

Dr. Ádám Schlégl is 33 year’s old who was among the 4 astronaut candidates out of more than 200 valid applications. The aircraft design engineer András Szakály, development engineer Tibor Kapu and electrical engineer Gyula Cserényi made it to the final four.

Schlégl graduated of the Faculty of General Medicine of the University of Pécs, as well as the research work required for his PhD degree. He is an orthopedic specialist at the PTE Clinical Center. In recent years, as a practicing specialist specializing in tumor surgery, university instructor, black belt karate master, he has already stood on a peak above six thousand meters in the Himalayas – the article highlights. Within his mission will contribute to the promotion of the Hungarian space industry, research institutes operating in the field of space research and, in a broader sense, the fields of natural sciences.

The specialist believes that perhaps even more people can be helped through the program, that biomedical research will have a prominent role, which will eventually appear in daily clinical practice.

They have been tested against the requirements of the European Space Agency (ESA), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the International Space Station (ISS) and Axiom Space. The applicants came from all kinds of scientific fields, according to the article, they included deep-sea archaeologists, astrophysicists, biochemists, economists, transport engineers, hunters and public transport pilots, lawyers, doctors and philosophers.The candidates were also tested on their mental performance, their body’s load capacity, their personality and their cooperation skills

Dr Ádám Schlégl will be able to carry out research work on the International Space Station in 2024 -2025.
