Rhoda Scott barefooted organ Queen – Budapest

Rhoda Scott 80. with Lady Quartet’s fantastic concert

Sunday, November, 11. 2018. 6:00 p.m.

Papp László Budapest Sports Arena.

Rhoda Scott is one of the world’s greatest organists. Equally at ease with classical music as with jazz, gospel and blues. Born in New Jersey, USA, the eldest daughter of an itinerant Methodist minister, Rhoda grew up in the atmosphere of the black churches on the East Coast of the United States. While in the environment of many gospel singers, whom she accompanied beginning at the early age of 8, she acquired her incredible instrumental and vocal feeling.

Originally a self-taught musician, at the age of 25 she emerged from the Manhattan School of Music in New York with her Master’s degree in music and honors for the highest scholastic standing in the graduating class.

She made her debut at Count Basie’s Lounge in Harlem where she was “adopted” by all the big names in jazz. She played at the MIDEM in Cannes and her explosive international career took off.

On the bottom line … Rhoda once said, there was a time when she felt coming back to Hungary as to her home.  Most sure that in her last life, she was Hungarian as her hunger began with writing her diploma work on the Kodály method and Bartók’s folk collections.

Not want to mess Rhoda’s concert, mark the date in your calendar. The organizer of the Budapest concert is the Danubius Music Production Office.

Exotic Cubs Intoduced – Budapert Zoo

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The Budapest Zoo’s,  spokesman Zoltán Hanga invited the press representatives on a tour  to view giving early lunch to the  Giant Anteater whilst carrying on its back its cub. Interesting to see that the cub’s hair continuing with the mother’s pattern, merges barely notice the cub clinging. Isabela’s first cub was prepared during their “Honeymoon” with William in 2016. The cub’s  parents came from Germany and Scotland. The male cub was named Beigli (The beigli originally from Silesia region of Silesia is a well-known cake in Hungary since the 14th century). Later,  Beigli left the Budapest Zoo to its new home to the Zoo in Liberec, Czech Republic.  The pair gave a female birth to their second cub named Flodni (Hungarian/Jewish Cake)  who is to-day one month old. Known that they are mainly eating bugs, insects, might sound strange but fruit yogurt and avocado are their favorite. Sleeps a lot daily 15hours.

The Giant Anteater is within the sloths, in the order Pilosa. They are close relatives of the armadillos. The giant anteater is a peculiar-looking animal, particularly because of its highly elongated head and brushy tail.  The coat is rough and long, which may seem too warm for the tropical habitat, but the coat is needed because they have slow metabolism and the body always has low temperature. The eponymous mane, which runs along the back and neck can be ruffled in excitement. Due to the slow metabolism the pregnancy can be quite long, around half-a-year and usually only one offspring birth to a cub arrives. The cubs are still riding on the mothers back for a year even though from 6 months they eat solid food. In its wildlife the anteaters walk up to 10 kilometers/day to be tracking the delicious insects with their great sence of smell. Due to their large size the anteaters only natural enemy is the jaguar and cougar, and of course the humans. When they sence a threat they turn into a perfect ball.

Next took a visit to the Armadillos ((a certain types of armadillo) at the Tropical Palm House. The Armadillos live east of the Andes from Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil, Ecuador to Surinam. The armadillos roll into perfect ball shape when threatened, the ears are tucked into the shell and the head and tail interlock to seal the shell completely.

The day’s visit ended at the Piranha aquarium as to watch the feeding of „bloody-thirsty” mean „bloody-hungry” piranhas as they battled to grab bits-and-pieces of their meal in the stirring water.

Yesterday, no matter how incredible it sounds but an unknown 300 years old mummy arrived in a smaller van. He was  under the sheet emerged to the  Corinthia Hotel’s press hall from the Natural History Museum – Budapest. The press members were curious to hear the professionals unfold some secrets, but who he was in the past  led to completely a mystery. The Hungarian audience will be among the first to see this unique collection after the European premiere in Prague – said Daniel Bátyi CEO of JVS Group Hungary Ltd.

The unknown mummy has no name, so he will be simply named as the Transylvanian Mummy from where he was found. For the time being only know that the man’s body is around the age between 40-50 years. The state of the lungs refers of tuberculosis The mummy lying peacefully … watching the media as they have a close-up, look him at every inch … what else can he do! Which was almost astonishing that the mummified body has mustache, beard and even chest hair and hair on other parts of his body. Of course, beside  many others the Transylvanian mummy will be the guest at the World Mummies Exhibition. Also be out on display, the Vác Mummies – a mummified family from Hungary believed to have died of tuberculosis. As well, an Egyptian priest named Nes-Hor. Last but not least one of the most interesting finds among the exhibited mummies is Baron von Holz, the nobleman’s body that died during the thirty-year war. There will be 100 original artefact on 2200 square meters dated back to 1000 years old mummies.

In the Victorian era having tea together with the mummies was a kinda Egyptian mania in the UK. The Englishmen unpacked the mummy while spending tea-time on the spot. They worshiped everything that was linked to ancient Egypt. They believed and hoped by snipping the tea from the grained body parts of the mummy, is the route of eternal life.

Over the last few decades have had been developed an independent territory of science as a science out of curiosity in emerging mummies in many places around the Globe to engage in scientific activities in different disciplines. Also the analytical methods and the development of computer programs have opened up new opportunities for mummies. Today CT scans, with magnetic resonance imaging, provide a perfect picture of these conserved bodies; researchers can visualize the mummies’ wrists and look at the face, remove skin and gain glimpses inside the skull. DNA testing of mummies provides an opportunity to check for disease.

We also keep mummies at home so we were told. Those who have a painting inherited from their grandparents are having a mummy at their home. Paint was also made from preserved bodies. The “mummy brown” color on the painting is literally from the remnants of Egyptian mummies. This was in use from the Middle Ages to the 18th century, pigments were made, but this was banned at the beginning of the 20th century.

Find out a bunch of interesting facts related to the long gone mummies secrets. Surely be ready for an educational and fun at the same time. Tickets purchased on the spot will qualify only for same-day access. Other reservation possible through online.

“Knight Move” Exhibition Sam Havadtoy – Budapest

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The exhibition will be open until September, 2. 2018.

Photographs speak louder than words… Let them tell the story of the opening “Knight Move” exhibition ceremony of Sam Havadtoy in New York at the Ludwig Museum – Museum of Contemporary Art – Budapest.

The official exhibition was opened by Dr. Piero Addis  –  Director of Villa Reale di Monza, Dr Julia Fabenyi – Director of the Ludwig Museum – Museum of Contemporary Art, guided tour by superb art of arts Sam HAVADTOY and curator of the exhibition Attila NEMES – art historian were present.

Let alone cannot go by with only the pictures without not sharing some awareness-mindedness thoughts…

An artist’s namely San Havadtoy’s career can be examined from many different approaches, for example through the network of relations in which the artist first tests the waters and established his own language.

The exhibition focuses on the New York years of painter Sam Havadtoy. The ’70 digs ’80s working relationships with key artists of the city greatly influenced his art of shaping meeting Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Yoko Ono and many others.

Sam was born in London/UK and moved with his family to Budapest/Hungary in 1956. He was 4 yrs. old. In ’71 he leaves Hungary  in search of a free world. Arriving in N.Y. ’72 he started working as an interior designer and that’s when he met John Lennon and Yoko Ono whom open the door and introduced Havadtoy to leading art circles and  knit friendships. Thereon he received one commission after the other from influential artists, architects and trend-setters.

Heard from Attila Nemes about the Disney items, which are large-size original vintage Disney figures from the ’50s, which Havadtoy covered, just as the other items. Disney was an important role of the post-war America national identity. The way Havadtoy plays with these Disney figures, their appropriation the development of the items distances them from the world of cartoons and places them into a new field of interpretation. They start behaving as if they were part of the post-war American-European memory within spaces which, historically speaking, belong solely to European culture. The Mickey Mouse figures in Genoa, Naples or a Neo-Renaissance place in Budapest appear in the framework of a game involving the politics pf memory.

One of Andy Warhol’s reaction as visiting Sam was …“I only came to arrive” and surely the visitors to go to Sam Hadvatoy can also say they have come to arrive to a sophisticated awesome exhibition.

Yoko Ono once said Q.: “An artist is born. I am touched by the  magnificence of his work. He has dipped into the old Hungarian spirit and culture and created a work that is very now. It is Hungarian, very Sam Havadtoy and it’s beautiful.” To learn more about the background of the artist’s items, furthermore about the relationship between Sam and Yoko must visit the Ludwig Museum – Museum of Contemporary Art – Budapest before the closing date.

The exhibition items are in English and Hungarian-language with inscriptions information.

Most of Sam Havadtoy items belonging to the collection of the Ludwig Museum – Museum of Contemporary Art – Budapest and some to private collectors.

The Life and Art of Frida Kahlo @ Budapest

Mexico City to Budapest – Museo Dolores Olmedo bringing Frida Kahlo to Hungarian National Gallery. Exhibition: Building C. – Ground Floor.

Saturday, July, 7. –  Sunday, November, 4. 2018.

Probably the most defining and iconic female artist of the twentieth century, Frida Kahlo is the subject of an exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts – Hungarian National Gallery in the summer of 2018. Thanks to the kind generosity of the Museo Dolores Olmedo, Mexico City, and several other important Mexican collections, more than thirty paintings and other works by the artist are being brought on loan to Budapest. The selection – which not only features the artist’s hallmark self-portraits, but also includes such major works as her very first canvas, painted in 1927, as well as paintings and portraits inspired by the events in her life, works suffused with symbolism, drawings, and even photographs – offers a glimpse inside the evocative, yet physically and mentally tormented inner world of Frida Kahlo, and shows us the mythical reality that she experienced and recreated.

Frida Kahlo, who originally intended to study for a career in medicine, was prone to illness from her earliest childhood. At the age of six she contracted a viral infection, which malformed her right leg; as a teenager she was involved in a bus accident, receiving multiple fractures to her spine and pelvis. Her injuries caused her intolerable pain, and she was confined to her bed for long months. She found escape from her suffering in painting, and the source of her art was her own self – the window onto her particular reality was the mirror, in which she could see her reflection looking back at her. The stiff, hieratic self-portraits that Frida Kahlo painted, mostly directly facing outwards or in two-thirds profile, were projections of the artist’s inner world, which helped her to create a new, versatile and exciting ego, radiant with energy, with which to confront the outside world. Her characteristic style of painting largely followed classical precedents, but was also richly nourished by Mexican folk culture. Many of her works are enlivened by historical, archaeological and ethnographic elements of Mexico before the Spanish conquest.Through the magnificent works on display, the Budapest exhibition conjures up the intricate and organic unity between the life and art of Frida Kahlo.
