This slideshow requires JavaScript.

In a couple of hours the music and dancing on the ice will fill the air at the Budapest’s Figure Skating European Championship.

Before turning onto today’s press call, here is a little preview: Today, January 14, one day before the Budapest’s European Championship Race Day to be held at the Syma Hall (District XIV., 2. Ifjúság Street – Budapest) where throughout the day the athletes are carrying out their “dry workouts,  the media representatives were called to the opening of an exhibition at the Sport Museum introducing the prominent ice-skaters of  Hungary. The highlight at the opening ceremony was as to see  in person the grand ice-stars still being with us. The title of the exhibition is „Skating anno Chapters in the history of figure skating by Hungarians”. The exhibition shows in time and space the grand skaters of Hungary along with the decades ago in use of figure skating outfits, tools and precious relics. The press conference ceremonial welcomed the presence of class players and Hungarian skating defining personals as Zsuzsa Almássy, Julia Sebestyén,  Klári Kozáry,  Krisztina Regőczy, Klári Engi,  Éva Saáry, Lili Krész and György Czakó. The list of the a/m figure skaters would be pretty long, but wish to mention two amazing skaters in Hungary from the time when most of us were not around, yet they gave so much joy to the Nation with their performances. Éva Saáry (born:1926) in  ’46, ’51 and ’52 won the Hungarian championship. In 1948 second in the figure-skating at Saint Moritz. She was nominated as the best Hungarian woman figure skater in 1951. György Czakó (born:1933) the  three times Hungarian Champion figure skater in his career he repeatedly participated in senior European and World Championships, featured in the 1952 Olympics and beyond that the winner of several international competitions.

In addition to the Hungarian excellencies, the French classic and coach of the Túróczi-Major ice-dancing pair former World and European Champion Olivier Schoenfelder was present as well. As he said: Quote: “Since the beginning of the summer in 2013 we have been working together. Our cooperation is going very smoothly. They both are developing very quickly, we have also been accredited to the next World Cup. I see in them a developing opportunity and I hope they will arrive to the next Olympics. Lajos Szabó – Director of the Museum and Krisztina Regőczy Olympic silver medalist, world champion figure skater held a short guided tour for the visitors. Revived reality of the past, when she stood at her former world-class tableau seeing herself and recalling the amazing career standout stations with  András Sallay her pair at world  and olympic championships. Krisztina said: Quote „I have all my outfits which I preformed in our role on figure skating. Only missing one, which will remain as a great sorrow of mine, loving it so deeply … that was the Hungarian folk-art outfit, which was a gorgeous product  by an American designer, I wore it at the figure skating. After the performance I had to leave the outfit in the States. Have no idea where it landed, or even if it is still in one  piece. About the  superb Hungarian pair of all times in figure skating in a nutshell: They won the World Professional Figure Skating Championship two-times in 1980 and 1982.Also earned a degree in coaching at the College of Physical Education in  ’88. Been a remember of the board of directors of the Hungarian Olympic Committee since 2009 and chairman of the Women in Sport Committee. Later she accepted an important position in the International Skating Union, becoming the Sport Director of the figure skating, ice dancing and synchronized skating disciplines in the year 2010. Her pair András Sallay after leaving the ice, became an art dealer, later painted him as well. Never-the-less he still remain in connection with the international figure skating, serving as figure skating expert and the representative in East Europe for IMG, global sport and media business.

Perhaps in a few years on these Wall of Fame at the exhibition, new chapters will increase in the history of Hungarian skating.

This unique exhibition is worthwhile to visit not just for visually interested of to-day ice-skaters but to learn a bit of those  way back  times of the Hungarian individuals of who’s life was all about ice and skating back in the early 20th century.

The exhibition will be open on the dates during the European Championship and also visited free of charge by those person holding their tickets.

György Sallak – MOKSZ and the Executive Director of the European Championship said: Quote: „Everyone is welcome to the Syma Hall and we will do everything in our possibility to avoid having to have to wait for over ten years for Hungary to host a forthcoming European Championship. At the moment at the Sochi Olympics. István Simicskó – Minister of State for Human Resources of the Ministry of Sports spoke about amount of three billion HUF to be received at the MOKSZ by 2020 within the framework of the state funding for 16 priority sports and that sort of 50-million EUR contribution to the ministry. REBORN OF THE LEGENDARY „SZIMPLA KERT – ROMKOCSMA” IN BUDAPEST

Not only the beer taps will be open, but the Simple RuinPub  on the Kertész Street comes back to where it started in 2001 … being on the Beers Street again!

Saturday, January, 11. 2014.

Berlin Craft Beer Bar

District VII., 48 Kertész Street – Budapest.

The Simple Garden – Szimpla Kert ), was one of the first RuinPubs – RomKocsma to be opened at Budapest. The reason why it was named “RuinPub” in the first place, was of its building, being vacant and abandoned. The idea was to open a pub in that venue and that’s where it all started and then after named “Simple RuinPub”. Had large open-air inside garden with many rooms previously  functioned as  housings. During the weekdays worked as a Pub, but on the week-ends the garden was arranged for the thrift hunters and picnic tables for guests to loosen up. The place became pretty soon Budapest’s highlight for hundreds of people to come along, feel-good, having a beer, wine, cocktail and a bite of light food, in other words enjoying company and to dissolve of a weary day.  Was pretty popular by of  its trend-settings, a real cult place for locals and to visit by travelling youngsters to pop by for a pint of delicious home-made cool beer. Also the middle age folks frequently visited the place.

Saturday night the place will be officially re-open, whereas previously a whole generation of young adults grew up and revel in the culture blend of the pub. As time went by … on the first hand, it became one of the main tourist attractions of Budapest. On the second-hand, the place became the birth of the venue of gastronomic and beer delights.

The Simple was once again forefront with new trends and when teamed up with the members of the FőzdeFesztivál – BreweryFestival together exported the Hungarian revolution brewing to Berlin. The Hungarian home-made beer in Berlin is known as „Braufest Berlin”. In couple of days, the Braufest experience will be brought to Hungry, introducing the Hungarian and German relations by hosting beer lovers this coming Saturday, January, 11., at the Berlin Craft Beer Bar …at  the old Simple Garden venue … District VII., 48 Kertész Street- Budapest.

Upon the re-opening there is going to be a list of delicious tap and bottle beers, special beer menus. The newly reconstructed Simple RuinPub has six new original taps of which cool ongoing national and international craft beers will be served.  Also small ala carte delicacies imported from Italy will be available, but needn’t have to be disappointed from missing the Hungarian food known from the old days … Simple hadn’t forgotten them and  still can go for them.

The highlight of the evening will be unveiling the modern Hungarian painter Gáspár Gombos epoch-making work  titled: “Beer Revolution in Pest-Buda”.

The Simple RuinPub sends a call out to locals, foreigners staying in Budapest to be their guest for a glass of Hopfanatic “Campania Cervisia”  … Beer champagne on the night at the reborn Simple RuinPub!

“World-renowned artists, winning international productions and the cream of the circus world are hosted at the Grand Circus of Budapest. The event is not only looking forward with great interest by the public, but the professional individuals  as these shows are often visited personally by directors, managers from the world’s most famous circus. The professionals may see and measure the direction in developing  the circus as performing arts. Also, out of competition will be the Swiss Kris Kremo, the festival’s guest of honor, one of the best known “gentleman” juggler for the first time arriving to Hungary.” … these were the opening thoughts by Zsigmond Kriza – Director of the Hungarian Circus and Variety at the press call on Tuesday, January, 7. 2014.

The Budapest’s Circus Festival has reached its 10th anniversary and today it is considered to be in the well deserved place of the world of Circus Festivals. It stands within the 5th place in the row of the top Monte Carlo Circus Festival, which is seen as the world’s most prestigious festival venue. The Capital’s Circus has become a real Hungarian cultural festival brand which is held every second year with great success. The anniversary year offers superb programs than ever. Finest artist’s representing nearly 20 countries who will fill the arena with 30 productions, arriving from Australia, United States of America, Spain, Russia, Italy, Canada, China, Cuba, Ukrainian …  just mentioning a few. The 4 day show brings all the protean style circus genre, the group numbers and spectacular artistic acrobatic figures, animal figures and comic productions which will keep eyes wide open and holding back the happy tears of the audience no matter of age.

The 30 performances is divided into two different shows, presented throughout six shows. The audience may choose to visit the “A” or “B” show or both as well. “A” goes on Thursday, January 9. at 7 p.m. and Sunday, January, 12. 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. “B” goes on Friday, January, 10 at 7  p.m. and Saturday, January, 11 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Foreigners at the International Festival …  Twelve youngsters from Chine, the Qingdao acrobat group bringing more than 4000 years alive of the Chinese circus arts. They have had set up an eye-catching, superb foot juggling show and previously won  several prizes not only in Chine but at other foreigner countries. The Duo Azelle ladies on trapeze from Canada, the Lisandra Sanchez Cross aerialists from Cuba, the Merrylu Casselly, René Casselly Jr. fantastic elephant show coming from Germany. Seen a short demo of the Acrobatic Comical Act by 4 members of the Ukrainian group, balancing and throwing acrobatic acts. Time for one more to mention performing at the „B” show … The Messoudis, performing in the hand-to-hand act arriving from Downunder.

Sure, not on my own by saying a the perfect day at the circus cannot be achieved without the main stars … the CLOWNS, who are favorites of all „All age”. As it was long ago said by Charlie Chaplin …”A day without laughter is a day wasted”. During and after the press gathering, Tom Dougherty from USA and Pepe Silva from Spain entertained the press individuals, but they were not alone „Lucy” aged 6 was with them. At first thought received  the name after „Lucy in the sky with dimonds”… naa wasn’t right, cause as Tom told me actually named after „Lucy Ball”. Many may know and remember the greatest classy lady clown in the world casting “I Love Lucy”! To know more about „Lucy” have to go and see her! As it is said … a bit differently …”Beside a successful male, there is always a „female”.  In brief  Tom and Pepe met each other in the States at the Ringling Circus in 2010. Since forming the duo clown act they have won a silver award at the Intern’l Circus Festival in Hanoi. Tom was awarded the Felix Adler prize for the Best Solo Clown Act in 2007.

Hungarians at the International  Festival … At the jubilee festival contemporary and classical circus trends greatest Hungarian representatives compete for the festival’s brightest shining prize. So far, at these festivals has never won a Hungarian artist, but for right now … keeping fingers crossed …  there is every chance out for  László Simet with his unique giant high wire … death wheel – semaphore show. He is the star in the Cirque du Soleil, also held an awesome performance at the London Olympics closing ceremony. He performed several major festivals winning awards in China’s Wuhan and Grenoble. Another artist team to be watched carefully is the Hungarian Richter group from Hungary. Jr. József Richter, the youngest circus director of the world. Surely will fascinate the audience with the group’s horse performance. The equestrian acrobat group showing classical traditions by representing the old star worthy level of the Richter Group. The young Hungarian acrobats will be also among the secret favorites at the festival.

The circus festival of international jury experts will evaluate the performance. So according to tradition, the international jury watch the production as a contestants, show. The members of the Jury are from the world’s major circus and varietyland: The jury will be chaired by Fredi Knie, Director of the Knie Swiss National Circus,  Franz Czeisler – Circus Tihany Spectacular President/Mexico,  Farzana Khalilov – Rosgoscirk Circus/Russia, Henk van der Meijden – Stardust Circus International/Netherlands, Jeanette Williams – Entertainment and Circus Agency/USA, Helmuth Grosscurth – Managing Director, ECA/Germany, Vinicio Murillo – Feld Entertainment, Inc Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey/United States, Francesco Bouglione – Cirque d’hiver Bouglione Paris/ France, Hou Quang – Tianjin Acrobatic Troupe/China, Gábor Donner – circus artist/Hungary.  The Festival will hold a spectacular gala program at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. with its traditional gala awards ceremony on January, 13. 2014. The  Hungarian artists would be able to show themselves to the world, given its own track, titled

“Dream of a circus.”

This production will occur only in Hungarian and Hungarian artists.

There would be so many artists and groups to list at this update, but would take pretty much time to have them listed. So better to go see for personally. Purchase a ticket or two … „A” or „B” show … or for both … during the 4 days festival.  Grab a seat to have a splendid time with family, friends, buddies at the Budapest’s 10th International Circus Festival.

ROLLING IN GYULA … TO THE ELIZABETH 4 STARS SUPERIOR WELLNESS HOTEL

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Gyula is a “Waterville”  in the south eastern part of the White Cris in Hungary.

… Heals your Mind, Body and  Soul in every sence …

There are many energy lines of the Earth in Hungary.  Find it out at Gyula and use this power to ease yourself with the city’s  famous Baths which is now with the lately opened  Aqua Place is considered as  largest bath complex in Hungary. Thermal spa waters has a long history in Hungary. The ancient Romans had a very developed bath culture in Hungary more than 2000 years ago. They highly valued the healing effects of Hungarian thermal waters. In the 16th century, the Turks also discovered the healing effects and were fond of  the thermal waters.

Explore Gyula as the destination for combining healing, relaxation and adventure by staying at the Elizabeth 4 star Superior Hotel… You may have a Q in mind … Why me !?! … Here are some clues…

The atmosphere and service of a luxury hotel whether on a business route, join a seminar, attending a conference, participating  at training or simply spending a short stay, visiting Gyula is one of the best of chose  to stay at the Elizabeth Hotel  be at a noble ancestry, spiced with modern luxury.  Within reach, a short walk lays the Gothic style historical Castle of Gyula, which can be also viewed from your room’s window, from  the lounge, bar, terrace and the Almássy restaurant. So eating brekky by the view at the 15th Century Castle is not a usual site, hoping I am not on my own saying this.  Nowhere else in the country can be found such a treat  by mother nature as the  famous Castle Baths, the Castello pool and the newly opened land of „Paradise” as the Aqua Palace.

The Elizabeth hotel was built-in 1905 as a private mansion of the Almássy-family another wing was attached to the building in 1934. This wing functioned as the Elizabeth Orphanage, which according to unwritten tradition was named after Sisi – Queen Elizabeth, (Empress of Austria, Queen of Hungary, wife of Franz Joseph) who was a regular guest of the Almássy-family. The hotel pays tribute to her loving memory. The building was remodeled in 2010 on the basis of the plans, designs of the owners, husband and wife, both architects on having to have the building kept  in manner of its historic monument.  The Elizabeth hotel offer a wide range of wellness services to indulge yourself and find the harmony of your body and soul. Guest arriving to the Elizabeth Hotel are not only Hungarians. A wide scale of guest arrive from the neighbouring countries and from Central Europe. The hotel’s staff has good English and German language skills. The culinary delights at the hotel’s „Almásy” restaurant  is well-known by locals and foreigners who have had even once visited the city Gyula. The Elizabeth hotel offers visitors 50 luxurious rooms and the Elizabeth suite. The  240 square meters terrace and a garden provides an excellent opportunity to arrange open air events. The Almássy  restaurant is a cosy place in organizing weddings as well.

Some of the hotel’s features  … free parking, partly accessibility features,  indoor pool , roof terrace, restaurant and bar, lounge, sauna, swimming pool, steam bath, message room also massage service in room, by request  hypoallergenic bedding available, cable channels,  room service, luggage storage, tours … ticket assistance, Limo or Town Car service. Conference rooms available for 100 individuals and meeting room for small groups. Have a wish to spend time outdoor …  nearby is bike,  fishing,  horse riding, mountain biking rentals opportunities.

The medical effects of Hungarian thermal waters are unique in the world. The spas, thermal pools, leisure pools and baths at Gyula offers some kind of family fun… BUT needn’t have to rush upon arrival to Gyula’s well-known mineral spas, cause the hotel’s enviroment  is cool and quiet, beautifully „composed” own wellness center for those business travelers staying for an overnight or a short time may also soak, splash, swim, relax, have a fine rest on the spot, which is a perfect  place  away from away from the hustle and bustle life that major cities traps us to prevent us from loosing up. Here nothing else can come in between to unloose, recharge  from a tiring week. before deciding to head, to explore, take the plunge at the biggest indoor and outdoor „Waterville” at Gyula. The Elizabeth Hotel is more than just a stop-by hotel. It will attract those seeking elegance during their rest.  Conference and seminar halls are regularly occupied. Hungary is one of the flagship countries of European medical tourism. It is a well-known fact that Hungary has one of the most demanding medical and dental educations in the world.  The doctors in order to continue to be able to practice,  must fulfil the requirement of an average of 50 hours of further education each year … twice as many hours as in most Western countries.

Medical training in Hungary is world-class. The local dentist’s are working by the European standard  since Hungary joined the European Union. The  medical tourism has become more varied and more international. The success story began in the  early 80s, when Hungary was a popular destination for German and Austrian patients seeking top-quality dentistry and dental prosthetic services of Swiss standards. Gyula also has the highly admitted, qualified professionals medical cares, excellent dentist, who also enjoy the classy elegance at the Elisabeth Hotel whereas they hold  their annual international conference, seminars, exchanging experiences with other dentists arriving from European  countries. The dentist tourism slowly but surely is growing at Gyula. Thus you can rest assured that a good standard of English is spoken at all private clinics.

Also Gyula is an awesome place and hosted several occasion the groups of  hunters, who regularly stayed at the Elizabeth Hotel and from there hit the road, woods, forests lingering over to Transylvania to fulfil their hobby. Family members of the Habsburg dynasty have had frequently  stayed at the hotel.

Worthwhile to think it over for those tourist staying, foreigners working in Hungary to drop over to Gyula and hit two birds with one stone by enjoying, having a splendid time to by relaxing, enjoying  the recreational opportunities along with the experience of the unique hospitality of the Elizabeth Hotel.

All superstition was put aside on Friday, December the 13th at the BigFoot Pub, whereas a presentation was held at the newly opened brewery’s theater hall by the owner Gyula Branda,The guests tasted unique  the distillery assortment, the so-called “liquid bread”. The beer lovers already had a chance to drink the local beer for the past three weeks. We had also a chance to  find out what good beer means and taste… as the locals say: “There is always good beer for everyone!” A large number of beer thirsty journalist presence were greeted by András Piko, presenter, here the questioner seated beside the Alcatraz Porter made Vanilla Crack. István Vasarhelyi, beer blogger  and  Dani Bartl, as beer friends of him know him, the beer guru  and of course, Gyula Branda, the Bigfoot creator, plant manager, and  Zsolt Gyenge his brother.

Was impressed by watching the Hungarian explosion of beer developments, and seeing the myriad of new craft beers and the development of numerously growing  pubs they felt the need  to produce, present their own reliable brewery with good quality beer. The recognised the new, 21st century’s beer culture beginning highly to emerge in  Budapest and throughout the country. So we thought we can not stay out of the beer rolling boat. Therefore, in 2013 we began to work to establish a new brewery to meet our ever-increasing thirst.

This was out first step in giving a birth and presenting their BigFoot Brewery. This year in November they stepped out of the limelight.  Many may have several ideas where and why the name BigFoot came from.  Actually, thought it had something to do with  BigFoot sending smoke-signs to EagleEye … but the truth was soon to be found out. It came from Branda’s size of his foot, namely, measured in 51 centimeters.

The distillery is operating in Pest county at Domony town. The Hungarian brewery  is overwhelming unanimous and will not produce the dominant, traditional  German lager beer. Therefore, cooked only top-fermented beers, which offers much more opt. to spread the brewer’s creativity having space of the variations in the game of producing exciting flavors. In the world to-day, most of the beer lovers .. they as well … have an image of the top-fermented beers …  the American, British and Belgian cool flavors, but secretly they are convinced that if they will perform well enough in their mission, then it will  probably become more ancient, more authentic, more honest brewing to explore their own style and taste by the Hungarian beer drinkers.  The Bigfoot  brand has a characteristic flavor, disarmingly tasty and delicious, as   said their top-fermented beers are  familiar and friendly.

Mr. Zsolt Gyenge, Head of management and professional guide said: Quote: ” We don’t overload the hops, no intention to break any records, nor striking with shocking specialties. We have other goals in mind as to set ourselves to always do a good beer for everyone!”

Probably by now most readers got pretty much thirsty, but only can hand over in words the selection of the awesome BIGFOOT brewery’s beer … but before getting into the names of the beers, here in brief  the background … The beers have a selection of gangster names, well-known situations of the early 20s, when the new law of not to produce alcohol hit America. So during the ban the American gangster world was founded. Among other „happenings” Al Capone, the leader of the world’s most notorious gangster became rich and powerful. This period brought … as side effect … on screen Multiple Oscar-winning films,  showing the American prohibition contexts. The Some Like It Hot (1959) and The Untouchables (1987) are two classics of  the Prohibition and the gangster world adversity.

Now here comes the Hungarian BigFoot Beers:

…Brand Ale … Refreshing drink malt-driven, a super friendly filtered beer. 4.5% alcohol content provides an excellent opportunity as a medium to consume large quantities as well.

… Gray balloon, stubble, AK-47 and a light beer, so all gangster begins …

Silver Street … Light wheat beers. The Weihenstephan pure culture yeast model is that the body of the world’s best known. A wheat beer yeast beside the soul, the body and the wheat malt. A traditional pilsner malt chosen. Easy to drink unfiltered wheat beer is light, due to the 5.4% alcohol content smiling slowly turning the conversation over.

…There is nothing better than to use a smooth wheat beer to look at the dancing women in Silver Street …

Chicago … In the early 20s Pale ale flavors reminiscent century, what new genre designation as we emphasize the uniqueness of order and Alphonse pale ale we call. Beautiful, reddish color of many types of quality wins malt with a touch of spicy bitterness of the fact that only Shapiro and Traditional hop aroma has been was added.

… This Chicago nightlife – fluffy depravity – this makes the prohibitionist scare receive!…

Ale CaponeAl Capone still not allowed to drink real American IPA because of Prohibition in 1920, who busted the American beer culture and the IPA was revived only in the eighties again. Therefore, we are not classic IPA, more of a turn of the century ale, five types of malt,  with the refreshing scent of hop.

… This thick balsamic bitterness taste of power, and more comforting than the weight of the revolver …

Alcatraz … In terms of dark and sweet, alcohol content of 5.6%, a moderate, traditional top-fermented beer. Its flavor of Munich malt dominance prevails, tasting of striking full-bodied character.

… All his life he longed to drive around in good cars  – just received his beautiful black coffin  car …

Razzia … Roundup

“For a long time we did not get it why the wheat beer is too dark. Nowadays, fortunately, we know that the magic is in the malt, the Bavarian weihenstephan yeast, which can bring out the maximum, roasting the flavors are not necessarily in the sunny wheat personality. The raid mixture of four types of dark malt provides the harmonic depths” … we were told by Gyula Branda.

… After a rough cleanup, nothing calms your nerves so the gangster as a full-bodied brown wheat.”
