Showcasing living tradition of the „Buso walks” @ Budapest

The exhibition is showcasing the revolutionary tradition of the „Buso walks” … in other words … „Masked Monster Carnival” celebration that is taking place  each at the city of Mohács.  It is also recognized by UNESCO as an intellectual cultural heritage. The history of the “Buso walk” in Mohács has undergone various changes, but in its renewed formation it has survived to this day and has been renewed its form.

First of all … the traditional Carnival, brings back celebrating  drunkenness and revelry  the week before Lent begins on Ash Wednesday. Secondly, it’s the reenactment of a historic victory by the Šokci, a Croatian ethnic minority that has a large populous in Mohács.

As the story goes … „”Buso walks”is a national tradition dating back to the early Middle Ages. The townspeople fled the city to escape the Ottoman Turks who had invaded in 1526. Hiding in the forest, they were approached by an old mystic who told them to don masks, weapons, and bells, and that a night would appear to lead them into battle. Some nights later, when the masks were fashioned, the knight arrived and led them home to Mohács where the racket of bells led the Turks to believe they were plagued by demons. They deserted the town, and the locals had their homes back. Another, more ancient version tells that by the “Buso walks” are chasing away winter itself.

At the “Buso walks” are participants dressed in woolly cloaks and head coverings, wearing grotesque wooden masks, baggy trousers and leather moccasins; their identity is hidden, allowing them to engage in mischievous, good-natured pranks. They attempt to frighten away winter with a number of noisy devices: sheep’s bells, rattles during the”Buso walks” with horns and even cannons.

These masks can be viewed especially by foreigners and tourist staying in Budapest for the time being, to take some more memories back home from their stay in Budapest.

Opening hours: Monday–Friday: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. or until the end of exhibition.

On the 9th of January – Celebrating Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas all over the World.

Amrita Sher-Gil Cultural Centre at Budapest, was opened by H.E Sri Kumar Tuhin Ji – India Ambassador to Hungary, by welcoming in saying “Namaskar  … Good Evening” to the invited local distinguished guests and from the Indian Community in Hungary. Thereafter followed his presentation by saying Q.: „Mahatma Gandhi as was one of the greatest human beings of modern times. His love for humanity was dedicated to Bapu who cared and natured the most downtrodden and needy … Gandhi within us in our beliefs and acts. Throughout the world we dedicate this day to the memory of Mahatma Gandhi.” Continued:”When we are far away from home, and decide to work and settle in a different country, what links us to each other is the cultural thread, that binds and nurtures us. We celebrate the festivals together. We lend our shoulders to each other in times of need. We build a harmony with the country that we live in, with the people, their mores, their cultures and their ethos, the importance of Gandhian values and khadi in the modern-day.”

The evening’s entertainment was provided by two esteemed guests … notable singers Jennifer Maga – Hungary and Selma Muhedinovic-Salyajdzi – Bosnia & Herzegovia and Kathak dancer – Sonali Roy and teacher at the India Cultural Centre Budapest.

A talented duo gave a musical fusion on Violin & Piano with Tabla. Kavya Francis – Violin also a professional Bharatnatyam Dancer), Nicole Li – Synth (Both students of British Int School in Budapest, previously studied at the Royal Schools of Music UK) They played in the company of Pandit Rajesh Gangani on Tabla.

Christian missionary – Father Benvin Sebastian can truly be called a social reformer and philanthropist. Hailing from Kerala, Father Sebastian has been living in Hungary since 2003 and is very active in giving social & spiritual discourses and also taking spiritual tours for Hungarians to India.

Dr. Katalin Aklan – well-known veteran Indologist gave a lecture on keeping in mind the importance of Gandhian values and khadi in our modern-day. She is a Global Teaching Fellow at Central European University and besides being an expert in Indian studies has also translated and compiled bilingual essays, aphorisms & quotations of Mahatma Gandhi.  Spoked about  the Gandhian Values in today’s times, particularly the spirit of Khadi as a thought and not just fabric.

Forming a little India in Hungary is within the Bhartiya Samaj Association. Mr. Sanjay Gupta a proud member of the Indians living in Hungary. He is CEO  at one of the largest Organizational Development company in Hungary called the Grow Group. He also works as an executive Coach, Top Management Advisor and as Inspirational Speaker. He talked about the role of the Indian diaspora in Hungary. Sanjay stated that in many countries around the world there is one ambassador representing India, but there is not only one in all, there is 31 million Indians represent their country either as ambassador, CEO’s, top positions in politics, business, art, cinema, sport and other field, deputy managers, directors in High tech fields … etc. … just to mention a few working outside India. The goal is to bring everybody together, build a harmonious relationship with the locals and expats alike. Had an exemplary career spanning 25 years, over 2 continents  Asia and Europe and 3 countries India, Germany.  He was primarily in leadership roles for the last 18 years leading teams as large as 600 professionals in Engineering & IT companies. He also works as an executive Coach, Top Management Advisor and as Inspirational Speaker.

During the gathering was also carrying forward the mission to celebrate the 150 th anniversary year of Mahatma Gandhi … A Man who inspired India to fight against the colonial rule, make India free and who selflessly worked towards non violence, peace, tolerance and courage and who left an indelible mark on the entire globe, on young and old alike, and who has become a way of living and thought for generations to come.

Gandhi’s philosophy has been aptly depicted in the beautiful words written in the XV.th century by Gujarati poet, Narsinh Mehta  song … „Vaishnav Jan to tene kaniye peer parayi jaane re” meaning … „Call those people Vaishnavas (or devotees of God) who Feel the pain of others.” Truly Mahatma’s each and every act of kindness and courage veered towards bringing people closer, helping the poor and the underprivileged and spreading kindness all around. Mahatma Gandhi said Q.: „To give pleasure to a single heart by a single act is better than a thousand heads bowing in prayer”.

As a part of the celebration day, the Indian Embassy’s contributing to Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, or Non-Resident Indian Day, which is celebrated on the 9th of January each year to mark the contribution of the overseas Indian community in the development of India. The date was chosen as it was on this day in 1915 that Gandhi returned to his home country from South Africa, led India’s freedom struggle and changed the country for ever. Gandi was the greatest leaders the world has ever known, and his role ended as he became victim to a political assassination in January 1948.

The celebration culminated by an exhibition on Khadi products at the Culture Center’s exhibition hall open by H. E to the guests, There was displaying sustainable & eco-friendly fabric & products sent by the Khadi & Village Commission of India. Sri Atal Bihari Vajpai – former Prime Minister announced the 9th of January – Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas to be celebrated all over the world, to acknowledge the contribution and achievements of the Indian soulful voice. Followed by High Tea reception.

The first show of the seasonal concert series of the Danubia Orchestra of Óbuda begins on January, 17. 2019., at the Academy of Music – Budapest.

These were the first words at the press gathering by Máté Hámori – artist, after a short rehearsal of Mendelssohn: E-minor Violin Concerto by the Danubia Orchestra of Óbuda. Also present: Péter Ács, Managing Director, Máté Hámori Artist, Balázs Bús, Mayor of Óbuda-Békásmegyer, Ricardo Casero, Conductor . Was introduced and welcomed Ricardo Casero the musican and artistic director of the Spanish Royal Orchestra of Oragon (Orquesta Reino de Aragón).  In the beginning he was the first trumpet player and at that time he met the Hungarian colleague. He later chose a conductor career. He works with soloists such as Maxim Vengerov, Sarah Chang, and Natalia Gutma. His career as a conductor began after playing as a musician at the Palace of Arts (Palau de les Arts) in Valencia, Spain.
It took quite a while until to-day Casero was able to come to Budapest. As the saying says … “God’s mill grinds slowly”… It took a while to succeed in bringing together Ricardo Casero come to Budapest by the major support from the Spanish Embassy in Hungary. Meeting,for the first time with the Danubia Orchestra of Óbuda …As he said Q.: “It took only 2 minutes to feel the good chemistry… good feeling … just like the first sight of love”. The conductor is a real travelling man, been to Madrid, Italy, Barcelona, USA, Valencia and now for the first time in Budapest and pleased to be here, cause Budapest is one of the top cities in Classis Music.

The audience, for the first time see/hear Roberto Casero’s Spanish conductor, who will conduct the lesser-known works of Sibelius and Takemitsu alongside Mendelssohn’s popular violin concert. The soloist of the Mendelssohn work is a returning guest at the band: Julius Pusker was introduced to the Danubia Orchestra by Bartók’s early violin concert a few years ago

Julia Pusker started playing violin at the age of 5. From 2005 he was a preparatory member of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music – Budapest and from 2011 he was a student of the Royal Academy of Music in London.

The Danubia Orchestra of Óbuda continues to build a unique repertoire featuring many 20th-century and contemporary works in 2019. There are also authors and works of art whose popularity is rising all over the world, but for some reason they have been pushed into the background.
For instance, it presents Toru Takemitsu – Japan’s top rated music creator, Thomas Ades – a young British genius or Gubaydulina Sofia – the Russian esoteric visionary masterpieces co-Spring Music Academy series.

The orchestra’s mission is to bring as many kinds of excellent music as possible to the heart of the Hungarian audience. The mission remains a key element of the youth project, with dozens of concerts in the gyms of Danubia’s elementary school’s – Budapest, as well as a series of family mats in BMC, which introduces the world of classical music into innovative mini-concerts for the whole family.

Who would else think of an artist behind the extravagant mustache than Salvador Dali, the man who is listed among the greatest masters of art!?!

The next part of the artistic series of the Temples of Art is headed by the master of surrealism. The life of one of the most strange creators of art history can be seen in the film with the several experts.

Salvador Dalí and his muse-creator, Gala, lead the audience through his life and art. The comprehensive art portrait film, from 1929 onwards, tracks Dalí’s career – when he joined the surrealist, and in the same year when became familiar with Gala – until his death, on January, 23. 1989.

The Urania National Film Theater will  be premiere on January, 24. 2019.

Salvador Dalí– In the footsteps of immortality. 

The 105-minute film screened in original (English, Spanish) with Hungarian subtitles,directed by David Pujol.  Movie. Beside the capital screening there will be  a number of other cinemas location across the country. Viewers over 12 years of age.

The Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation film carries out all the places that have played a prominent role in the artist’s life, including Portlligat – the only self-owned workshop and home, Figuerest – at his hometown, where he created the Dalí Museum, and at Pubol, where he had the castle which he gave to Gala as a sign of Dalí’s love, and also showing Paris and New York, where he had major exhibitions.

The series are brought to Hungary by Pannonia Entertainment Ltd.

Exhibition – Paintings of János Balázs from the Horn collection – 2019.

János Balázs – Hungarian artist and poet of gypsy origin  – 1905. – 1977.

Maybe it is only a short time for tourists to stay in Budapest, yet it is worth visiting the site, learning about the belief of the Gypsy’s Days-and-Nights through the eyes of Balázs János.

The exhibition is open from January, 12. – February, 10. 2019.

Upon press release … The man living in a rural gypsy slum and completing only two grades read everything he could obtain, from Homer through the Hungarian classics to Shakespeare, Balzac and Nietzsche. Nevertheless, his father, his grandfather, was a famous gypsy primate, he turn in his young age painting and writing poems that were inspired by his reading experiences and the world colored by his imagination. The “Hermit of Pécskődomb” even wrote a diary and played instruments created by himself. He started painting at the age of 63, and produced his oeuvre during only 8 years. He became acknowledged by his smaller community. At Salgótarján was his first exhibition organised at the Attila József County Cultural Center – 1971, where his memory has been cultivated conscientiously ever since. His nationwide fame has been followed with a series of international exhibitions, due to the aroused interest towards naïve art in the early’70s.

Domokos Moldován directed his film entitled Hungarian Naïve Artists 1972-74 after the Hungarian National Gallery’s 1972 exhibition Hungarian naïve artists in the 20th century – János Balázs got a significant part in the exhibition and the film alike. He illustrated his book of poems published in 1977 (With Brush and Pencil, Corvina Publishing house) with his own images. The most complete and representative monographs album until now, assembling scripts about him and his diary notes „Cigány büszkeséggel” (Gypsy with pride)… has been published by Kieselbach Gallery in 2009, in Hungarian and English volumes. There is a remarkable collection from the oeuvre of approximately 300 works in the Museum of Hungarian Naïve Artists at Kecskemét, opened in 1976, apart from the Béla Dornyai Museum in Salgótarján.

Nevertheless, the most significant number of the short but productive and unique oeuvre’s works is at private collectors, but first of all … Paintings of János Balázs from the Horn collection.

Upon press release was announced, that  at the Italian Culture Institute on January,10. 2019 will  be held the season opening concert. This time, the MÁV Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by Claudio Morbo, an internationally renowned Italian conductor who has been several occasion in Hungary  and not for the first time conducting the Szeged Symphony Orchestra during the recent years.

Ottorino Respighi and Giuseppe Tartini play a role in the evening with many international award-winning pianists Nazareno Ferruggio and Mario di Nonno, known for their temperamental and virtuoso violin play.

The Last Fireworks – Meetings Talent Program

The last fireworks were based on Jens Christian Grøndahl’s Black Forest and Alex Broun’s First Fireworks.

Whether by short notice missing the a/m date, the next performance will be on January, 15., at 7 p.m. at the same theater. Tickets available on the spot ticket office.

 A heart-warming “Hollywood” and a dark-toned “Bergman type” mother-adult girl relationship that interact with each other.

The girl inevitably carries the parents’ sins in both stories, since she has already brought a member of the latest generation into the world. Casts by Dorottya Udvaros- Kossuth and Jászai Mari Prize winner actress, Eszter Földes,  Director Assistant: Anna Fazekas, Mentor director: Tamás Jordán, Director: Anna Csábi –   Work of director from Târgu Mureș (standing in the middle of the snap above).

Never been now-a-days a better actual  theme to draw attention to the past and to-day’s generation togetherness.

Hopefully, not on my own by saying , that not just in Europe all professions and duties require more-and-more things. Expectations starts at already at the Day care center, thereon at  the kindergarten, at school, and stepping into a workplace … then up the ladder. Be a theater director, company manager, tourist agent or whatever. Meanwhile, we forget about the most important things that surround us … our family! About our descendants who are no longer with us, our parents, grandparents, our unborn children, our grandchildren, our friends.  An individual has to face themselves, their past, own mother and father. Escape from things is never worth it.

A drama in a way, but mostly to many in the audience will ring the bell in a way to their own relationship with their Mum. Even though the play is with two actresses on stage, it is very eye-catching, especially cause the audience are within reaching the actresses and the body language say more than words. For the time being it is in Hungarian language, but hopefully will be on stage with subtitles in the future for English-speaking audience.

In the spring of 2015, the Bethlen Square Theater and Manna’s Talent Program launched. Following the first contest, two productions were performed in 2016: the presentation of „Mary and Max” by Péter Valcz was performed by Bálint Szilágyi, who performed „Peter Handke’s „Aranjuez’s Beautiful Days”.

As a result of the second competition, titled: „One Boy from Bosnia”, created by the novel of  Noémi Lazici and Éva Pataki, director Judit Cseh.

Another contest call was published in the spring of 2017, resulted in two more presentations: the first winner, Krisztina Vadász Reverse Lookup, was presented on January 17, 2018, and on the 11th of April, connected to the „Poetry Day” was held with the title of „Szívlapát” (Heart Shovel) by Fruzsina Dézsi  and Anna Gerencsér.

Coming up in the first half of 2019, two more presentations will be made in the framework of the talent program.

The Bethlen Square Theater is nearby the University of Veterinary.

José Carreras was born to sing!

José Carreras has been writing history for decades, master of the great moments of the stage, loving passionately, emotionally singing. Also worked with the most famous conductors and opera singers.

At the Farewell concert audience expressed their pleasure by standing burst of applause for minutes and loud on the auditorium.

The miracle tenor voice, 71-year-old José Carreras, gave an exceptional gala concert in Budapest. The audience received a lasting experience, and for those who missed the concert only may view the “silent” snaps here.

At the press conference these were told … José Carreras worked with the most famous conductors. He has been writing history for decades, master of the great moments of the stage, loving passionately, emotionally singing. He is the “star of the low tones”, one of the greatest don Josées of all time. Through its roles and concerts, success is crammed into success, full house is filled, and the loudspeakers are loud on the auditoriums, its tone resembles the great Carusó. His repertoire includes more than 60 operas, including the most outstanding ones: Andrea Chenier, La Boheme, Tosca, Werther, Don Carlo, Carmen, La Forza del Destino, I Pagliacci, L’Elisir d’Amore and Un Ballo in Maschera.

José Carreras spoke about a singer whether opera or other genre, but regarding to opera singer, there are major things to keep in mind before stepping on stage, for instance: the problem with the singers that they do not depend only on their own talent or how professional they are. They depend on their physical conditions, the vocal chord which are very delicate and can be effected from all sorts of different things … weather, to eat right things, drink the wrong things, therefore important to keep in mind about these before going on stage.

A Q  was raised about teaching…  Carreras A: “I am  does teaching but maybe in the future it will happen. I’m holding two or three times a year masterclasses where I gives suggestions, which is very difficult to give to singers. My proposals are that everyone should listen to their own voice and make them feel what is good for them.”

ITEC Scholars Day – Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation @ Budapest

ITEC Day – Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation – Budapest – 2018.

The ITEC Day was celebrated organized by the India Embassy, at the Amrita Sher-Gil Cultural Center Auditorium in December, 14. 2018. by the newly appointed Ambassador of India to Hungary – H.E. Kumar Tuhin, who has had replaced H.E. Rahul Chhabra – Ambassador of India to Hungary after his term of office has expired.

H.E. Kumar Tuhin open the floor by welcoming over 70 individuals, including Dr.Sándor Sipas, Director General, Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade and members of press, members from Indian community, ITEC alumni attended persons and briefly talk about the ITEC itself Q.: „The Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Program was instituted by a decision of the Indian Cabinet on September, 15. 1964 as a bilateral program of assistance of the Government of India.” Continued: Q.: „The importance is placed on relations with Hungary and the enormous potential that both countries hold for each other. Our bilateral trade is growing very fast. Working towards positive economic impact. The Government of India delivering technical assistance, technology and in many other fields. ITEC offers unique training courses, both civilian and defence, in different centers in India. There are short-term, medium-term and long-term courses every year in a wide and diverse range of skills and disciplines. The useful knowledge and experience gained in India is value, and that undoubtedly bring to their organization national development and experience to their employer by sharing the gain technologies.”

This year 30 individuals from 18 countries arrived in the framework of ITEC scholarship to India and from India 45 persons arrived to Hungary. This year still 3 students left out of ten in participating the ITEC scholars, leaving soon for their courses to India. Within ITEC programs, India shares its experience and expertise together in various fields over 160 developing countries, such as: Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, Central and Eastern Europe, and the Pacific Island States.”

Overall, the three ladies stepped on stage and shared their experiences gain during their ITEC participations. Melinda Irtl Földiné – Yoga teacher attended in 2016 at a ’Special Training Program for Yoga Trainers. She came along with her student Ágnes Demeter who attended in 2018 a Yoga Cyclic Meditation course. As she described the course, in her class were 55 persons from 16 countries. She also underlined that within the number of participants from all religion and colors from around the world were present. There were no problem of differences in faith, nor color they all behaved as a one big family, nothing stopped them from being just-as-one!  Thereafter, Edina Barna – author and digital artist shared her experiences who participated in 2014 at a web designing course. Participated on a 10 weeks web design course with 100 people from the four corners of the world. There were participants from countries that she has never heard before. Appearing as a “full stop” on the world map, and with to-day’s tech she keeps with many the daily contact. She expressed in her name that most probably the participants had a pleasant stay in India within the wonderfully organized course and sightseeing days and well took care of them.

In between the presentations, traditional dance  performance written in the 16th century  took the stage by Sonali Roy – Kathak Dancer and Table artist’s music entertained the audience. There were stunning classical raga fusion show by  Pandit Rajesh Gangani played on Tabla and Zoltán Lantos, performed on Violin. The event was closed with a reception in serving traditional India Food.
