It all started with four Google’s workers, took four years, to-day reached out 4 continents

Four threes are twelve, but I am most sure it will be more to it!

The representative of the press and media were welcomed  a day ago at the magnificent scenario of the Museum of Fine Arts as to be present at the announcement of  Goggle’s Art Project to have had launched its presence at the Museum of Fine Arts and the Hungarian National Gallery. The opening was welcomed by Mr. György Szőcs, Culture Secretary of State (NEFMI) saying: “I believe that Google Art Project will not only give a picture of the museum’s collections and increase the visitors, but will show the Hungarian cultural heritage and other attractions more to it, arouse the interest around the world, and the arts education will play an important role.”

Ms. Edina Heal, representing Google in Hungary praised the Hungary Art Project and the leaders to have had expansion, the accession of domestic museums.” She continued: “We are proud that Hungary has taken part in this global event, by the participation of 2 national museums with more than uploaded 200 artifacts on the web in high-definition. Google is fortunate to have the opportunity to show the Hungarian culture through the insight of these museums to the internet users.” She added: “the so called Art Project all began four years of ago by 4 Google’s workers thinking of how Google technology could be available to benefit its way in the  world of arts and the culture. The four of them worked on this technology in their spare time.”

It is believed the Art Project presence will bring upon surface the region’s most important masterpieces of the Museum of Fine Arts, the so-called “hidden treasures”. He continued: “Although the Budapest Museum of Fine Arts is geographically in between Vienna’s and St. Petersburg’s, two major European art collections, I am happy to say Budapest’s Museum of Fine Arts from now on can be viewed along with them  through the museum map as one of the Best Kept Secret” in Europe. From now on through the Google project anywhere in the world can be discovered 150 unique art treasures, the ancient Egyptian monuments from the ancient and contemporary artists at the Fine Arts Museum that lies in the heart of Europe “- said Mr. László Baán, Director General of the Museum of Fine Arts.

The Hungarian National Gallery welcomed the new opportunities for the Hungarian art in the Art Project. He stated: “We believe that this new communication channel will increase the visitors to our museum and the visitors can learn, get acquainted with the most famous Hungarian paintings and their creators and in the future easily recognize the art works wherever they meet the eye” said Mr. György Szűcs, the Hungarian National Gallery appointed Director-General.

Here’s some thoughts about: Technology behind the Art Project!

„Art Project is a Java-based Google App Engine web application. The site exists entirely on Google’s infrastructure, and was built using Google APIs that are available to the public. There are two main areas of the site. The first is the “museum view”, which uses Street View technology to enable people to explore institutions’ galleries in the same way as Street View in Google Maps lets people to wander city streets virtually. In each museum, featured artworks are mapped to their latitude and longitude and displayed as a clickable annotation over the Street View museum imagery. From here people can click to explore an artwork-taking them into the site’s second key section of the site; the artwork “microscope view”.
The artwork “microscope view” uses Picasa to deliver amazingly high-resolution captures of artwork. Users can zoom into the smallest details of artwork, allowing them to see details from a vantage previously only seen by art restorers. People can then learn more about the artwork they are viewing through content delivered through the Google Scholar, Google Docs and YouTube APIs”

“Mr. Nelson Mattos, VP Engineering, Google: “Google is committed to bringing all types of culture online and making it accessible. The Art Project demonstrates how the Internet helps spread knowledge.”
Mr. Amit Sood, Head of Art Project, Google:  “The Art Project is going global, thanks to our new partners from around the entire world. It’s no longer just about the Indian student wanting to visit Metropolitan Museum of Art  in New York. It is now also about the American student wanting to visit the National Gallery of Modern Artin Delhi.” 

“The Art Project illustrates Google’s commitment to bringing culture online and making it accessible the widest possible audience. Under the auspices of the Cultural Institute, Google is producing high-resolution images of the Dead Sea Scrolls, digitizing the archives of famous figures such as Nelson Mandela, and creating 3D models of 18th century French cities.”

Google, of course thought of the next generation, therefore extended classroom-tested Art Projects for art teachers to hold hours for children aged 5 and beyond. So, in the near future a classroom will be available for teachers, children at the Museum of Fine Arts to wider the kids knowledge in the history of world-famous artist, arts.

The Art Partners list is pretty long, but just to mention continents anyone can do a bit of a rolling along: Oceania, Middle East, Europe, S. and N. America, Africa, Asia, well how does that sound!?! Enjoy your stay!

Well,  finally it may sound a bit strange to-day, hearing that four individuals had  the knowledge to break through and  come out with this superb technology, whereas everyone can pay a visit AT the World’s 41 museums. Hover over and take  an interactive walk, by not to have to dress in formal cloths, just having a comfy pyjama, step up to view 150 collection in your armchair of the masterpiece of arts of our history. By viewing some piece of arts may grab the attention and anyone can  figure out where, which museum they would  personally visit and see these arts in the near future.

The Google Art Project had not been developed for short-sighted persons, but to be serious these images will show an awesome closeup you may have never seen before.

“PUSKÁS” – R.I.P. – THE LEGEND WOULD BE 85 YEARS OLD TO-DAY!

“PUSKÁS” (April, 1. 1927 –  November, 17. 2006) 

The unforgettable, a part of the Golden Team and a Heart of Gold for the love of football!

He was a gifted footballer, a proud patriot. Extremely successful coach and last but not least a loving and beloved family man.

Only the greatest remain as a Legend and even he has gone ahead, he will be around till the end of time, cause that’s why Legends remains Legends. Mr. Ferenc Puskás was surely one of those.

Many around the World agreed he was the most awesome goaler and time tells, yes he was! He was buried under the dome of the St Stephen’s Basilica in Budapest on December, 9. 2006.

To-day at his memorial stone layed wreaths and many mourning ribbons by domestic and foreign football club’s.  Of course beside many other foreigner football member clubs, the hearts of the Real Madrid’s Football Club will always cherish his memory and would not wished to be missed at leaving their mourning ribbons.

I had the chance to-day on his birthday date to be present at the Puskás grave, his memorial stone. It is a place that  is not  generally opened for the public.  I  have taken some snaps and I would like to share them with those that the Puskás name still means a lot for them.

Puskás, the great legend would have had been 85 years old to-day, IF fate had not called out for him. He surely would be still a young adult by heart (not counting his last years medical conditions) and most probably ruling the young adults how to deal with the magic ball!

Puskás spread the name of Hungary throughout the World. There was and still are folks from North to South, from East to West that had the privilege to have had seen  him in twisting and twirling the ball around the green fields or heard about his performances from their Dads. Puskás was in the past, present and will be in the future admired around the World.

PUSKÁS in capital letters, was and will always be a LEGEND!

Personally, I think his soul exactly feels our ray of love and shines seeing he is living in our hearts.

By-the-way Puskás was so much attached to the football fields he probably can’t give up rolling the ball, so he is ongoing kicking the goals,  collecting the top in scores with the Heaven’s Grand Team.

CLIMATE PROTECTION AND ENERGY SAVING!

It was in 2007,  Australia originated a campaign and brought in actions as to protect our World’s climate. Now-a-days this act had become a protection movement.

 Between 8.30 p.m. to  9.30 p.m. local time in Hungary the decorative lighting will go out!

Those arriving to the Chain bridge area (Budapest) awaits colorful programs! Just a hint: During the sixty minutes of darkness there will be fire jugglers, African drummers and light graffiti! More to that, a  bike will transform human energy into electricity. The energy generated by battery will upload and during the darkest hour it will be switched to the DJ desk, whereas the DJ will spread the music rolling in the deep dark hour!

Last year, with a number of 1.8 billion people “switched off the lights” in throughout 135 countries in having to join the campaign at millions of households and many world-wide known buildings. The Globe slowly  will fall into the shade of darkness for an hour. Rolling around the World  as the clock’s hands reach the pointed hour: The Sydney’s Opera House (even Bondi Beach), the Leaning Tower of Pisa,  the Buckingham Palace, the Big Ben in London, the Giza Pyramids in Egypt, the Acropolis of Athens, the Great Wall of China, the Colosseum in Rome and the Empire State Building and the entire Times Square, in the United States will be in full darkness.

The awareness-raising campaign opened the eyes of the inhabitants of our planet  to vote for and fight against climate change which was also a call by the WWF  in the same year of 2007!

Hungary has joined over  six years to this campaign from the spark of the idea. This year, as to the previous ones, Budapest’s main attractions,  the awesome historic monuments and building’s will be shinning with the illuminated rays of light, pre-darkness at: The Parliament,  The Chain Bridge with the other nine bridges crossing the River Danube in Budapest, the Buda Castle, the Fisherman’s Bastle, The New York Palace, the Hero Square, the National Theater. Lights turned off is not just a unique act at Budapest. Throughout the country in the same hour, towns, villages, settlements, cities will join this campaign. At the City of Kaposvár, the Cathedral of Our Lady, the Fancy “Gaudy” Palace the “Cifrapalota” at the city of Kecskemét, the Cathedral of Eger, just to mention a couple of outstanding, sophisticated  scenes and buildings in Hungary.

The astronauts from the International Space Station (ISS) will take snaps and videotape from their height, as the continents fall into deep darkness,  one after another following the different time zones areas.  For those who wish to follow this amazing sight for the eye can click to the website of the European Space Agency (ESA) to view the recordings.

The Aussie supermodel Ms. Miranda Kerr, promised she will give a yoga classes for free, to 500 people, if they show their  support in sharing their own uploaded video on YT.  According to another promise, the Greenpeace International’s CEO, Kumi Naidoo will green paint his beard, if 10.000 of  individuals will register on the International Earth Hour website.

Last year in Hungary approximately three thousand individuals, more than 70 municipalities and 250 institutions indicated their support to the campaign at the Earth Hour webpage.

The local WWF Earth Hour main contributors are the Allianz Co., Coca-Cola Hungary and the Magyar Telekom Group.

Well it seems IF we really want to do something good for ourselves and for the World we live in,  then within uniting co-operation the good cause can reach its goal!

Gastronomy is a national treasure and by rolling on the wheels back in time you can discover the true history that led to its present and strictly reflects on its future!

The old Hungarian flavors should not be lost and forgotten, because they belong to the nation’s tradition.

The event is under the patronage of Dr. Gábor Tamás Nagy, the Mayor of  Budapest’s 1st District.

Dates:

April, 7 till 9. 2012.

In the morning hours of to-day, a but of a windy weather went to join the press announcement given by the organisers Ms. Katalin Beke, Program Director from the Festum Salon Ltd., Mr. Attila Pál Nagy, Co-organiser, and Director at the Nagy Fa-Tál gastronomic Ltd., Mr. Zoltán Zugmann, Host of the Festival, Mr.László Benke (Papa Laci) Olympic champion, master chef, master confectioner, Ms. Ági Szaloki, folk singer and Ms. Éva Szathmáry, the event’s contact person,  to hear about the coming Cultural and Gastronomic Parade. The gathering took place in a separate room at the Rivalda Restaurant, located in the 1st.District , 5-9 Színház Str. on the path that leads to the Royal Palace. The announcement was to spread the news to the forthcoming event titled: „The Heritage of Centuries” connected to the traditions of the Easter Holidays in Hungary.

So we were told the followings:During the 7th of April, till  the 9th. 2012 the inside the area of the Buda Castle, at the Royal Place will be a worthwhile place to be visited by the locals, foreigners, temporary staying in the Capital and tourists spending their Easter time here in Budapest, not just only having a day-of-fun, but to get an insight how the Hungarians keep awake their traditions.

The opening words from Mr. Zoltán Zugmann, Host of the Festival were: Easter is the second most important religious holiday in Hungary.The roots go back to the ancient times and preserving traditions is equal as to keep the traditions. The organizers emphasised to arrange this festival not just as an ordinary “fine-day-out” gathering, but also bringing alive the traditions connected to the religion holiday.

Mr. Zoltán Zugmann,  added by saying:”I wish to connect the urban feeling with the combination of the religious traditions. The event will begin with parade.The people who visit this four-day event, each day can experience the colorful world of Hungarian traditions.” Mr. Zugmann mentioned: „There will be also walky … talky guiding tour upon request, as to find out those secrets not yet to have had brought to daylight about the Buda Castle area.”

Mr. Zugmann also has high hopes saying:„The 21st century’s, man can take part in all sorts of attractions strolling through the paths up on the Buda-hilly inside the area of the Castle of Buda at the Royal Palace and feel, hear, taste the delights and see how the Hungarians keep their faith in their tradition.”

We were told, that throughout the 3 days there will be ongoing live music. Renowned contemporary Hungarian music, folk music and dance, concerts entertaining music and plays for kids and for the young adults of to-day’s popular groups like the Besh-O-Drom, Ms. Márta Sebestyén, The Misztrál, Ms. Agi Szaloki, Mr. György Ferenczy and The Rackajam and like to say a word about another performer Ms. Ági Herzku, a young folk singer, who I had the pleasure to see, hear last year at the Margaret Island in the “Ecser Wedding Dance and Dreamtime”production. and many more will step on stage and ensure your unforgettable time spending in Budapest.

Recently published editor of cook-book, Ms. Barbara Hegyi, actress will be together at the event as a guest with Papa Laci.

Just to mention a couple more features told by Mr. Zugmann: “Be prepaired to see a colourful show in the coming four days with also participating with their local Gourmand and craft work of our neighbouring fellows: the Carpathian Basin, Felvidék, a part of Southern Slovakia, also a show as to “Meet the Primates” and Székely land.

Chef Mr. László Benke, “Papa Laci” welcomed the gathered representatives by quoting Mr. Kálmán Mikszáth, a great Hungarian one said: “The people of a nation who do not cherish their past … does not deserve its future! “After  this quotation he went back to the earlier times, by saying: ”AD 313 was the first celebration of Easter and it is true it took four days. Pope Pius X stopped this 4 days celebration in the 19th century by saying: „One day will do for the celebration and that’s it!” „Ahhh, but we are Hungarians” said Papa Laci: „one day!?!  We sure like to eat and drink, but only for a day!?! By-the-way, you cannot see this to appear on us! Just look at me for example, I don’t have any problem with my weight, the only problem I have is with my height!” Seeing him, said it all and the gathered group all had a touchy smile on their face.

He continued: „So after the fast during Xmas time we would like to eat and drink at Easter as well. We begin to fill our bellies again. During this 3 days event, we will be inviting with sample of tastes the visitors to sence the Hungarian mouthwatering  delights.”

I’m not on my own, many of the Hungarians have great love for the rich in flavor soups. They can eat it with a spoon or have it as a glass of drink. So after having the sample of the mouth-watering delights, anyone can have the a glass of drink,  so-called: beer, pálinka, and you bet, the very best of Hungarian wines. Naturally, thinking about the thirsty kids, soft drinks will be also available.

At the end of the press announcement Ms. Ági Szaloki sang a sweet old folk song. Thenafter, Papa Laci invited the press participants to a reception, a table filled with his delicious yummies.

Here are some smarties: “The tradition is not sick, having to care for.”

Tradition is not a prisoner to have to be retained, however, try to relive and have the experiences of the tradition.

Hopefully, this event will be kept as a traditional festival in the years to come.

No the train wasn’t late!

The History was late!

To-day, the organizers told at the press conference held under the dome of the Eastern Railway Station on track number 9.,where we were hosted on the dining train, but before taking the steps, the Transylvanian hospitality couldn’t have had been dinied. Welcomed the invited  press and media representatives with  snip of Pálinka and salty pastry.

Mr. Zsolt Kővári, Chief Executive, MÁV-Start, Inc. opened the press gathering by saying:  in the past five years, the State Railways provided the Székely Express and this year another train will join the route with the train: Csíksomlyó Express, which is also provided by the MÁV Start Inc. He was happy to add: “This year the rail assemblies ensure more than fifteen hundred passengers to have an opportunity to travel to Transylvania to the pilgrim having space on 24 railway carriages.”

“The World-Famous – Hungarian Gold Team” football players portrait are painted on the locomotive Taurus, that will be slicing through the air on its way and pulling the carriages cutting through high mountains and deep valleys. Both trains will depart on May, 25 and return at May, 28.2012.

The Székely Express leaving from Budapest, early Friday morning, arriving approximately at 10 p.m. to its final destination at the Transylvania station. Both trains will be rolling four days long as a passenger train to the various villages of Transylvania. The pilgrims will be picked up upon arrival at the station and accommodated at local family’s homes.

Every year the Saturday before Pentecost Sunday is held the traditional Csíksomlyó pilgrim. For many Hungarians this is one of the most celebrated holiday, whereas the procession and Holy Mass are held.

Puskás and the other 10 pair of Golden Legs cannot be denied. They have had written history with their “Match of the Century” and the memory of them has been kept in the hearts of many Hungarians.

Mr. Jenő Buzánszky, is one of that eleven pair of golden legs!

It is such a great joy for all Hungarians who live at the time of the breathtaking footy played at the Wembley at November, 25, 1953.  England v Hungary, and what a Victory the Hungarian football palyers gain with their 3:6!   Mr. Jenő Buzánszky, the defender, once member of the Gold Team. He was happy to share his thoughts by saying: „A long time ago we all were out on the green fields and now if just only being together again with their portrait of my footy mates is heartbreakingly touching.”

On the speeding Csiksomlyó Express Mr. Jenő Buzánszky will be the captain of the team. The “Sportsman of the Nation” travels since 1992 to Transylvania and as he said, he almost feels being there like being at home. No wonder … “Farkaslaka” presented the honorary citizen title, “Székelyudvarhely” was inaugurated as an honorary Székely and at “Sandominic” they have the Buzánszky Cup also held in his honor.

He recalled those moments when he visited the town Hargita and met with the elder fans who told him, as to be able to hear clearly the voice of Mr. György Szepesi, broadcasting the Golden Team’s play, they had to climb up the hill to be able to listen through their detector radio the memorable match.

“For seven years I lived at the City of Cegléd. The railway tracks were just seven meters distance from our house. As the daily trains rushed by my kids always ran out of the house to watch the steam train passing in front of them”  recalled Mr. Imre Rácz, CEO of the MÁV-Traction Ltd.

Mr. Ferenc Hámori, one of the organizers of the pilgrimage and the editor of the Indóház Magazine, informed the press and media representatives,that this will be the fifth occasion of the pilgrims travel with the use of special trains during the event. The participants on this tour will be hosted in the frame of the Village Tourism.

Mr. Jenő Buzánszky will be on board for the third time participating on this trip. At the ending of the press conference he wished to add the following: “There is only one of such a pilgrimage in the world, so you should join us and everyone on this route can be confident that they will surely keep the 4 days experiences in mind.

At the end of the press conference the organizers welcomed the participants with  a taste of Transylvanian food specialties.

“THE CIRCUS AT ITS BEST” NEW SHOW OPENING AT THE BUDAPEST’S CIRCUS

The Circus is a place for young children and all age adults with young at heart!

The new show can be seen during the 24th of March untill the 26th of August, 2012.

The Hungarian Circus and Variety Office (MACIVA) features a prominent role in cultural life.
One of the oldest (founded in 1954) culture establishments, which is well-known of its prominent artist that have and are performing, representing the Hungarian Circus all around the world.

Approximately, 40 artists are employed at MACIVA. When the artists are not abroad, they are in the rehearsal halls getting ready to impress the audiences in coming next time to the “Circusland”.

From time-to-time, foreign artists are invited to perform in Hungary within the walls at the Metropolitan Circus.

Just a day ago the MACIVA has come out with a brand new show with some of the awesome performers to take away your breath:

Beside the foreigner artists there is one Hungarian performer in the arena, Mr. Henrik Veres, the  juggler.

One of the show’s highlights is a Family production: 3in1. One is the Saabel Family and the 3  are the productions: Dogs, Horses and Hand balancer.

RANDEZVOUS WITH THE MOISEYEV FOLKS DANCE GROUP AT THE “LUKÁCS” PASTRY SHOP WITH MR. GÉZA SZŐCS.

“Dance comes from an ancient language, which is goes back to the earliest period of the human culture. Throughout the time in history it had been preserved and passed on to everyone” These were the opening words of the Secretary of State for Culture, Mr. Géza Szőcs on Saturday,to this year celebrating its 75th year’s birthday of the Moiseyev folk dance group. The press gathering was held at the “Lukács” Pastry Shop, one of Budapest’s oldest building’s (built in 1912) that was in those days originally also a pastry shop. Now-a-days, after a 100 years the pastry-shop had been reopened with its original face and decoration: shinning brocades on wide windows showing the grand sight to the Andrássy Blvd., Crystal chandeliers and marble tiles at VI.th District, 70, Andrássy Blvd. (just a block away from the “Terror House” )

Mr. Szőcs Géza stated: “We are honored to have welcomed the world-famous Moiseyev dance group on their 13th visit to Hungary.” As he continued to say: “The art is none other than a method of transferring communication. In this sense, the art of dance is in a way like the languages, has many tounges, but the “dance language” and the “language of music” is well understandable anywhere around the World.

The Secretary pointed out the connection between of the Russian art dance, to the Hungarian culture. He mentioned: “Perhaps, many have had known, that Mr. Vaclav Nyizsinszkij, the world-famous ballet dancer, soloist spent his last years in Hungary and the Hungarians recognized him as their own.”

The Secretary of State for Culture handed over a memorial card to Ms. Elena Scserbakova, the co-leader and noted “The Moiseyev group is always welcomed to come to Hungary, as if they were at home.”

The co-leader of Moiseyev, Ms. Elena Scserbakova emphasized that during the different historical periods, princes, generals, presidents came and went but the culture was always over above the political status. She was happy to say: “So far, we have been in your country 13 occasion and the audience always reflected their joy and gave us their enthusiasm. There is not another country in the world like Hungary, that could be compared to any other public in the world.

A GOLF WEEK-END – MARCH 23-25 – AT THE MOM PARK SHOPPING CENTER BUDAPEST

I WONDER, WHICH GOLF PLAYER WOULDN’T HAVE HAD THIS PICTURE IN HIS/HER DREAMS IN PUTTING GREEN!?!

A dream to come true!

 

The summer greens will surely come but in the meantime to gain the experiences is just out at our fingertips, as to visit during this week-end the MOM Park Shopping Center at Budapest.

There are so many scene to be held a press gathering, but this time the opening of the year’s golf season had been selected at an unusual site. No, not outdoor, but furnished indoor at the ground level of the MOM Park Shopping Center, Budapest. The visitors were greeted by Ms. Monika Bednár, main organizer of the event.

The Hungarian Golf Association seekerS is to promote an event with interactive possibilities of golf, and found an awesome partner within the MOM Park’s team.

The MOM Shopping Center  welcomes at the ground level all visitors to gain experiences with joining at the interactive golf days. Their main goal is to popularise the game of golf in Hungary.

Events days/time:

Friday: from noon till 7 p.m.

Saturday: 11 a.m. till 7 p.m.

Sunday: 11 a.m. till 4 p.m.

To participate at these programs it is free of charge.

Depending on the weather will be an outdoor golf experiences rolling up.

Stay and play golf, spending a golfy week-end! Beginners and professional can stroll over to the MOM Park Shopping Center and enjoy these interactive fields of green grass programs offer.

The press representatives were told the following: There has been a developed educational program for school kids as to acquire players within its  framework. This  is available even for the small kids to learn the basics of golf. There are pretty good results coming in from the foreign experiences. Of course success will not fall in anyone’s laps, needs a lot of practise, hard work, not to mention the continuous co-operation which is pretty much-needed among the participants in our homeland, the life of golf.  Mr. Andrew Súgár, President of the Hungarian Golf Association has high hopes that within four years, thousands of children will have a chance to learn and be out on the golf’s green grass. He also stated: “The Hungarian golf is a pioneer in terms of sport events and also I have deep hopes in sharing a lot of fun with everyone.”

Here is a couple of snaps to what to expect, to see and practice during this week-end at the MOM Park Shopping Center. But before rolling down the page, see some of the little kids who passed by at to-day’s press conference practising the stand, hold, shot, controlled by a golf trainer. Could be, within a decade these kids will be hunting for the scores.

You can take part in the programs on the spot. The  Starting New At Golf (SNAG),   that will  also be implemented at the school’s,  as a golf program! The local PE teachers will receive theoretical and practical pre-trainings and will be able to teach the kids the SNAG in a playful form within their physical education.

Simulator: The three-sided slopes of varying difficulty simulator offers an opportunitity to try out and have an exciting experience for both beginners and professional athletes.

There is also a ground to gain experience of chip technology, as to practice in having a short game with the precise impact that hits the net.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST…

For many already well-known, the year 2016 holds the Summer Olympics Games that will be in Rio and since the golf games  became a part of  the olympics games we can track the grand golfers by following their games on the green grass fields.

Hope these kids of to-day will be our future Hungarian  Mr. Tiger Woods and Ms. Annika Sörenstams.

A PART OF THE COLLECTION FROM THE “MUSEUM OF DRUMS” CAN BE SEEN AT THE BUDAPEST PALACE OF ARTS

EVEN IF YOUR NOT A PERSON WHO IS ROLLING THE DRUMSTICKS, HOVER OVER TO THE PLACE OF ART – BUDAPEST TO SEE FOR YOUR OWN TWO EYES A SLICE OF THE WONDERLAND OF DRUMS!

Payed a visit to the Palace of Arts, whereas in the frame of the Budapest Spring Festival, Mr. Sándor Kármán, the owner of the Museum of Drums welcomed the arrived visitors to peck in the land of drums. The exhibition can be visited throughout the duration of time during the Budapest Spring Festival. That is until the 26th of March. Even though this exhibition shows only a slice of what can be seen at the Museum of Drums at the city of Cegléd, the selection and the display of drums was as entering to a scene of haven for all drummers and non drummers. Mr. Sándor Kármán has a private collection from 1990 and just by seeing a couple of drums at the exhibition, you can easily believe he has a unique and an outstanding collection of drums and not to mention the wonderful stories he has to each-and-every-one of them! Mr. Sándor Kármán, once being a drummer himself always cherished a dream as to collecting drums and displaying them in a museum.

He was saying he can only hope that these drums can bring back even if just a portion of the grand names in the awakening generation of drummers. As he also stated, these people deserve special recognition, shouldn’t lose track of the great drummers who truly made a difference in the history of drummers.

Listening to Mr. Sándor Kármán’s „presentation” you could hear his  love in the air for the drums. He is a real two-walking-feet lexicon of drums.

Mr. Sándor Kármán is a humble person who has the one and only collection in the World out on display at the Museum of Drums of percussions that introduces the drums from their development in 1990 in jazz, modern and classic music. Since the Museum opened in 1992 numerous visitors have entered a land to a historical tour of drums. During the two decades, many professional and non drumstick holders came along that somehow were interested in the

The Museum of Drums is also proud to share and take you down the road to a wonderful display of vintage drums from the last century.

At the museum there is a guide tour and you can stroll along at these spaces and time with an expert telling the tales of the drums and drummers beside you. Just a hint to tickle your interest. there is a working model of Leonardo da Vinci’s (1452-1519) mechanical drum design that lays just a foot step away for you.

Drum Museum goal is to collect and preserve and most of all to present the material history of each from and in its formation to the present visitors.

One of the long time gone furnished spot was a huge musical instrument store on the Rákóczi Str. in Budapest. For some of you it doesn’t ring the bell at all, but for many locals and maybe for those Hungarians who once lived in Budapest and now living somewhere over the rainbow, it may sound familiar. The instrument shop owner was Mr.Ármin Sterberg. To bring back the sight and feeling of those days, the Museum of Drums had set-up an exactly the same designed similar shop. Through the shop’s window can be seen (just like in the old days) those sets of drums from the Hungarian drum makers like: Mogyorossy, Stowasser and Reményi from the 1920s up to the 30’s. Now, take that as a tour back in time! One of the superb drummer’s drum Mr. John Grey – “Consort” trap set can be seen there.

Another gift that made history at the Museum was the drum making items and tools donated by Mr Desző Dubán Jr. after his father Mr. Dezső Dubán (1921-1993) had gone ahead. Mr. Dezső Dubán and Mr. Antal Medveczky both were very well-known and acknowledged local drum makers in the postwar times.

Mr. Api Weisz, (1910-1945) was a legend in his time and still remained in the world of music, as Hungary’s legendary drummer. There is a memorial stand showing him beside his drum as was seen playing with his band called “Chappy” at the Moulin Rouge in Budapest.

One of the outstanding “peice of treasure” at the Museum of Drums is an exhibition introducing the lifetime achievement of Mr. Peter Erskine, the American drummer, tutor and composer.

As a private collector he has an outstanding collection of drums and since 1993 he has lite the fire as to organize an annually held International Drum and Percussion Gala at Cegléd,  in the city’s Sport Hall. These walls held excellent drummers such as: Jojo Mayer, Steve Smith, David Moss, Will Calhoun, Tommmy Campell, Benny Greb, Horacio Hernandez, Peter Erskine and last but not least, Billy Cobham –  see my previous article and snaps at: https://rollinginbudapest.com/2011/09/02/septemberfest-with-special-guest-staring-bill-cobham/

There is also a cosy, neet music room at the museum.

A Gala without a prize ain’t really a Gala, right!?! So a Golden Drumstick Award was founded and presented each year as a recognition to the best Hungarian drummer.

There are so many greaties you couldn’t have touched on base, but these drums and stories can bring back their memories.

Many of the „oldies” drum players were radio babies, heard all kinds of music, later formed their own style. They also had their state in style for drums.

There are so many greaties you couldn’t have touched on base, but visiting the museum you will surely get an insight.
