“An Evening with Pat Metheny” – Grammy winning guitarist coming to Budapest – 2017

MOMSport

8 p.m. November, 4. 2017.

Twenty  time Grammy winning guitarist Pat Metheny has announced an extended run of dates around the world for  2017 under the auspices of “An Evening with Pat Metheny”. Recently inducted into the Downbeat Hall of Fame as its youngest member and only the fourth guitarist (joining Django Reinhardt, Charlie Christian and Wes Montgomery), Metheny will present a range of music from throughout his career.)

After the massive worldwide successes of his Grammy winning “Unity Band” and “Unity Group” records and the extensive touring that followed, Metheny took a bit of a break in 2015.

While 2015 may have been less active than usual for Metheny on the touring front, he nevertheless created the critically acclaimed large-scale work.

For this upcoming 2017 touring period, joining Pat this year once again will be his long time drummer Antonio Sanchez who has been his most consistent associate in a huge variety of settings since 2000. Antonio’s score for the Oscar-winning Alejandro G. Innaritu film was nominated for a Golden Globe award and 2016 Grammy award as well as dozens of other prizes around the world.

Malaysian-Australian bassist – Linda May Han Oh has been extremely active on the New York scene for the past few years, playing with many of the major musicians in the community.

Rounding out the ensemble is British pianist – Gwilym Simcock, one of the most exciting new pianists to emerge from the UK in many years

The year’s concert could be anything and everything. A bunch of new music inspiring just by the thought of his presentation. Could be that playing only old music one night or even playing entire albums. Most probably with Antonio, Linda and Gwilym will do a wide range of things from throughout all of it – and maybe uncover what the next period has in store as well”.

Have to be there to witness and even though November is far away, good idea to keep in mind the date and get the tickets before they are sold out and have an awesome night.

Newsflash … Unicum Riserva out by the Zwack destillery

Izabella Zwack and Sándor Zwack revealed last week-end their brand new version of Unicum, the new super premium version of the Unicum Riserva liqueur –  The Tokaji oak casks  aged  has 40% alcohol and bottled in 0.7liter.

Will be available on the shelves in the beginning of May.

Unicum Riserva is  a liqueur and doubly unique because it is aged not once, but twice in two very different and special casks.

The Unicum is aged at first in the largest and oldest cask in the distillery which has been in the cellars for over eighty years. Over the decades the wood has acquired a coating of what we call “black honey” which gives the Unicum still more depth and character.

In the second phase the Unicum is put into a Tokaji Aszu cask where for years this legendary wine has aged in the cellars of Tokaji.

Once the familiar bitter-sweet taste of Unicum encounters the sensuous sweetness of Tokaji, Unicum Riserva becomes mellower but at the same time spicy and fruity, with hints of dried apricots and an exclusively herbal, minty taste like a cool breeze.

Finally the 2007 vintage of Tokaji Aszu from the Dobogo Winery is blended into the Riserva to further enhance this uniquely unusual blend of flavours.

This year’s documentary section gets a new name, Titanic Dox and it has a strong supply. Jon Nguyen, Rick Barnes and Olivia Neergaard-Holm Danish filmmakers – directed David Lynch: The Art Life in which Lynch himself takes us on an intimate journey through the formative years of his life. From his idyllic upbringing in small town America to the dark streets of Philadelphia, we follow Lynch as he traces the events that have helped to shape one of cinema’s most enigmatic directors. The film infuses Lynch’s own art, music and early films, shining a light into the dark corners of his unique world, giving audiences a better understanding of the man and the artist.

Tony Palmer’s famous film of Leonard Cohen’s 1972 tour of Europe,  “Bird on a Wire”, long thought lost and only available on very poor quality bootlegs, has been digitally and painstakingly restored to its original glory, thanks to the discovery in 2009 of 296 cans of rusted-up material in a warehouse in Hollywood. Containing 17 of Cohen’s greatest songs, emotionally delivered when he was at the height of his powers, this is an unforgettable record of a poet and singer on the brink of worldwide fame. Huge sensation of the festival is that Tony Palmer accompanies his film to Budapest!
