The Tennis Court is one of the World’s top sporting and cultural events.

The Fed Cup is the alternative tournament of the Davis Cup just for women.

After the ISU European Figure Skating, the Syma Sport and Event Hall (1. György Dózsa Rd. Budapest )went through a huge mission in rearranging the venue from the skating rink to transform into a cosy tennis court and welcome the tennis ladies participating to the Games of Europe Africa Zone Fed Cup.

Monday, February, 3. was the day of practise on the match court, whereas each team received 3 Hs and 30 minutes for practise . During the early afternoon hours  the Hungarian ladies had their practise time. The the balls flew high and hitting sound of the rackets were already giving the feeling of fabulous time to come in the following days.  At the court  were Timea Babos, Ágnes Bukta, Réka Jani and Szabina Szlavikovics.  Ágnes said: Quote.”The Romanian tennis players are in the top 100 and their figures says a lot. Robson from the Brits tennis group isn’t coming after all, but still the Brits are very good. Concerning the Latvia team … hopefully the tennis court will be in favor for us. Our aim is of staying in match! Regarding to the Syma’s tennis court, this is an indoor hard court, which is not a fast court, and it’s in favor for me. Hoping many Hungarian cheering fans of tennis lovers will come”.  During the afternoon, seen beside the Hungarian team, Latvia, Turkey, Ukraine, Belarus, Slovenia teams were also on the practise field.

In Budapest already arrived the Euro-African Zone I’s group: Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Great Britain, Israel, Latvia, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine team, so even the ranking second in place of Victoria Azarenka, the 2013 mascot year, including the WTA event in Budapest triumph Simona Halep and Wimbledon semifinalist admire Kirsten Flipkens play well. Hungary have had twice been Fed Cup quarter finalists in 1963 and 1985.

The idea for Fed Cup can be traced back to 1919, when Mrs Hazel Hotchkiss Wightman came up with the concept for a women’s team competition.

When this was rejected, she instead presented a trophy in 1923 for an annual contest between USA and Great Britain, who were at that time the strongest tennis-playing nations. Mrs Nell Hopman, wife of the legendary Australian Davis Cup captain Harry Hopman, later took up Wightman’s original idea.

In 1962, when a British resident of USA, Mary Hardwick Hare, presented a dossier proving that support for such an event was overwhelming, the ITF was persuaded to organise a team championship played over one week in a different venue each year. It had taken 40 years for Wightman’s concept of a women’s version of Davis Cup to become a reality.

The ITF, the world governing body of tennis, launched the Federation Cup in 1963 to celebrate the organisation’s 50th anniversary. Open to all nations, not just USA and Great Britain, the much awaited competition became a resounding success.” source: Fed Cup.
