Ifjúság Street – Budapest) where throughout the day the athletes are carrying out their “dry workouts,  the media representatives were called to the opening of an exhibition at the Sport Museum introducing the prominent ice-skaters of  Hungary. The list of the a/m figure skaters would be pretty long, but wish to mention two amazing skaters in Hungary from the time when most of us were not around, yet they gave so much joy to the Nation with their performances. Éva Saáry (born:1926) in  ’46, ’51 and ’52 won the Hungarian championship. In 1948 second in the figure-skating at Saint Moritz. Lajos Szabó – Director of the Museum and Krisztina Regőczy Olympic silver medalist, world champion figure skater held a short guided tour for the visitors. Only missing one, which will remain as a great sorrow of mine, loving it so deeply … that was the Hungarian folk-art outfit, which was a gorgeous product  by an American designer, I wore it at the figure skating. After the performance I had to leave the outfit in the States. Have no idea where it landed, or even if it is still in one  piece. They highly valued the healing effects of Hungarian thermal waters. In the 16th century, the Turks also discovered the healing effects and were fond of  the thermal waters.

Explore Gyula as the destination for combining healing, relaxation and adventure by staying at the Elizabeth 4 star Superior Hotel… You may have a Q in mind … Why me !?! … Here are some clues…

The atmosphere and service of a luxury hotel whether on a business route, join a seminar, attending a conference, participating  at training or simply spending a short stay, visiting Gyula is one of the best of chose  to stay at the Elizabeth Hotel  be at a noble ancestry, spiced with modern luxury.  Within reach, a short walk lays the Gothic style historical Castle of Gyula, which can be also viewed from your room’s window, from  the lounge, bar, terrace and the Almássy restaurant. So eating brekky by the view at the 15th Century Castle is not a usual site, hoping I am not on my own saying this.  Nowhere else in the country can be found such a treat  by mother nature as the  famous Castle Baths, the Castello pool and the newly opened land of „Paradise” as the Aqua Palace.

The Elizabeth hotel was built-in 1905 as a private mansion of the Almássy-family another wing was attached to the building in 1934. This wing functioned as the Elizabeth Orphanage, which according to unwritten tradition was named after Sisi – Queen Elizabeth, (Empress of Austria, Queen of Hungary, wife of Franz Joseph) who was a regular guest of the Almássy-family. The hotel pays tribute to her loving memory. The building was remodeled in 2010 on the basis of the plans, designs of the owners, husband and wife, both architects on having to have the building kept  in manner of its historic monument.  The Elizabeth hotel offer a wide range of wellness services to indulge yourself and find the harmony of your body and soul. The Elizabeth Hotel is more than just a stop-by hotel. It will attract those seeking elegance during their rest.  Conference and seminar halls are regularly occupied. Hungary is one of the flagship countries of European medical tourism. It is a well-known fact that Hungary has one of the most demanding medical and dental educations in the world.  The doctors in order to continue to be able to practice,  must fulfil the requirement of an average of 50 hours of further education each year … twice as many hours as in most Western countries.

Medical training in Hungary is world-class. The local dentist’s are working by the European standard  since Hungary joined the European Union. SIXTH CRAFT HUNGARIAN FLAVORS FAIR – NOVEMBER, 2013.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Hunting Horn opening at the sixth craft Hungarian  flavors fair.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4H4dhnDqUU

This year the main stars at the fair’s stand will be the wild game meat and  fish!

District II., Millennium Park – Budapest – November, 8-10.2013.

At the  3days fair, all will find what their taste satisfies them, that’s for sure!

The Bestillo” Pálinka House: The House brought a wide variety of pálinka to the fair. The pálinka is produced from all the fruits growing in the area. Wish to pick one out from the stand, which was the apricot pálinka from the Gönc. It’s unique by itself. Not just because it is classified by the Codex Alimentarius Hungaricus, but of many apricot palinka prepared in Hungary the apricot pálinka from Gönc is absolutely rich in taste and in sence is simple like biting into a fresh ripe juicy apricot in the summertime. The area where the apricot grows is one of the best area in the North of Hungary. The apricot pálinka from Gönc received in 2006 the Champion award. Beside the apricot pálinka, the half cutted apricot jams were also to be taste and purchased. During the gloomy, mist winter days, the ray of the sunshine within these fruits are bottled and has a deep reminder of the fruits  tasted on the past hot summer days. The surrounding area also has plantation of the dark color plums from which also are producted pálinka and the black heavy plum jams … so was told by the lady at the stand.

„Tokaj-Hegyaljai” Wine Jams: The world-famous Tokaj wine and the wines from the hills at Tokaj are characterized by two different grape varieties, the Furmint and Lime leaf. The wonderful jams are cooked for 5Hs  together with 7 natural ingredients and  are thickened with pectin, then after bottled without any ingredients. For those who love the taste of the Tokaj wines surely met the flavor within the pure herb soft drink products at the fair. no ingredients. Definitely a refreshing new winery taste bottled in the jams and juices. Tokaji Furmint grapes and made wine, lime leaves, boiled for about 5 hours, 7 main agent flavored and thickened with pectin.

The pumpkin seeds oil, known by locals at Őrség, (Western Hungary, just a few kilometers from the Austria border), as the gold of the area. Producing traditionally hot-pressed pumpkin seeds, walnut, hazelnut oil and by cold pressed are: walnuts, pumpkin seeds, grape seed, flax-seed, apricot seed, poppy hip. The visitors at the fair were able to taste these oils and purchase them. As I found out from Pál Batha, long ago the pumpkins was grown to feed the animals in the wintertime, not really paying attention to the pumpkin seeds oil. To-day, pumpkin seeds oil was promoted, it comes first. Within its richness among other things, is ultra-rich in vitamins, immune-boosting as well-being consumed.

Are many honey stands to stop by, have a taste of the Typical Hungarian Honey Varities, such as  the Acacia, Lime, Silkweed, Sunflower Rape and many others collected by the buzzing bees around the rich bloom fields, hills, hillside, forest territories  of Hungary. In the ancient times the Greeks believed that honey originated from celestial dew. To-day as many may know, honey is one of the natural food which collected by bees and one-by-one made from floral nectar. Bees collect the  sweet nectar in their honeybags, the visitors also collected some bottles at the fair in the carrybags.

Was delighted to see, the winner of the products  from the last,  the 5th  Hungarian home-made arts and crafts fair to be present this time at the 6th fair with their regular and new products. So visiting the stand of the products of  Katalin and Árpád Török from Ada – Serbia  is a wonderful reminder and  gaining experience of the old market days when the audience stop by to taste the eye-catching bottles, jars  filled with  heavenly  flavors of fruits, nectar, the “miracle” blackberry wine vinegar. (Probably not an exaggeration to mention that the world’s most powerful fat-eater is the mulberry vinegar) ,  the hand-made quince jelly, which is typical Hungarian delight and many kind of medicinal herbs provided by nature. All the jams are prepared with  cane and many are without for Diabetics.

Beside the pálinka and wines from Hungary, the Hungarians are also fond of drinking the well-know regular brands of beers. Now-a-days the beers are on a new platform by adding natural fruit flavors. Young and elder folks are beginning to enjoy beside  or along the Pilsen type lager and the heavy dark beers to have a jar of  Sour Cherry, Strawberry, Plum, Sour flavored beers. A couple of these flavors were present at the fair by the Békésszentandrási brewery.

Talking about the beers … Coming to be in favor, especially in the season we are heading to when the chilly weather is around every corner the “Köleses” Mullet Beer is just what we need. Wonderful selection of spices in the Köleses Mullet Beer. Came out with a new brand, the he semi-dark mullet beer which is also now  on  available . As the owner  “Bandus” told me they are full year around search, testing, strive to traditional recipes and to find the basic ingredients to be in use. By drinking the hot or cold mullet  beer, all may be certain they are on the right track to have a healthy sip.

The hand-made  “sweetbox” were not missing and available for the visitors. The well design boxes already had  the sign of the season of gifts to come soon. Also chocolates to bring the atmosphere of Xmas.  Many know  the life, times and music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, but here bat the fair another side to introduce the famous musician was  all-in-all  related to  the hand-made sweets marked with the name of Mozart , and “Sissi” the  Empress of Austria, Queen of Hungary photograph on the chocolate boxes.

Since the hunting season is on,  the hog, wild boar deer in many forms were present by the producers. Other delicious delights as goose, duck, trout,  the famous Békéscsabai sausages, smoked meats  were available to purchase throughout the three-days fair.

As we humans say … “the dog is man’s companion”, but  as  for László Sáfrány (Mr. Saffron), as he said for him is the trout! Mr Saffron at Szilvásváradi is the trout farm owner. He built the first fish smoke house in Hungary and in the beginning only had freshwater trout, then later on other even saltwater fish as well was available on the spot.

First occasion to the fair  Ms. Emese Csíki brought her special tea and spices, from Szentábrahám – Transylvania. You can taste, you can even buy several different types of tea and spices on the spot.  She and her two sons brought dozens of medicinal herbs to familiarize, taste the flavors ripened by the sun from her Flowerville.  Opening a pack you can really smell the scent of the fresh herbs and see the leaves  one-by-one, no grinding.

Last but not least couldn’t end the update with leaving out the VitaBox, family owned producers fill each-and-every card box whether 5 liter or 2 litre packs with the 100% natural fruit juice. Freshly squeezed, just like biting into the fruits itself. No additional material is included!  This season they came out with a new flavor, a mixture of apple, carrot and beetroot all in one fruit box. A  wide flavor selection was out for tasting for the visitors. Edit the owner didn’t allow anybody to pass the stand before not having a taste of these nutritious delicious fruit drinks.

ONLY MENTIONING A COUPLE OF PRODUCTS TO GIVE A SLICE OF THE 180 EXHIBITORS, WHICH BY-THE-WAY WOULD HAVE TAKEN LIFETIME AS TO UPDATE ALL OF THEM!

WELL THAT’S ALL FOLKS …

SEE … BE AT THE NEXT  …  7TH CRAFT HUNGARIAN FLAVORS FAIR IN 2014.

WORLD TOURISM DAY AT THE HUNGARIAN MUSEUM OF TRADE AND TOURISM.

What a night … All our sence were filled!

Participated by invitation at the 9th event organized by the Hungarian Museum of Trade and Tourism at the District III. l., Crown Square – Old Buda at Budapest.

The event was held on the eve of the occasion of the World Tourism Day, which this time was devoted to one of the key region in the South Transdanubia. Taking into account the conditions in this region and season is no surprise that this event was held at a previous wine cellar at Old Buda. The visitors were welcomed by a glass of clear pure soda water. No wonder … everything has a reason … the choice of the venue was non accidental to be at Old Buda, where the museum is situated, which was previously a wine cellar and was well-know place by Mr. Gyula Krúdy, (1878 –1933) who was a Hungarian writer and journalist. who spent his last days living at this district and often visited the place, as it was at the time being a wine cellar. He was known as being fond of good food, drinks and was weak by heart in falling for ladies  companionship. As a writer, left his thoughts of many superb sites of Old Buda. His writing enlightens the contemporary atmosphere as an echo from the far and past era of the quarter. It was him who here at this place attributed the Krúdy Soda, which was a mixture 9 dl. of wine and 1 dl. of soda water. (Most famous novel of his was the Sinbad stories.) This evening we were taking back-in-time blending literature, gastronomy, fine wines of Szekszárd. More to it, the organizers had taken the audience, not leaving their seats on a pinch of travelling tour experiencing the Zsolnay Quarter at the City of Pécs.

The Hungarian National Tourist Office and the New Western Literary Circle held this evening show along with cultural values of the country in the eyes of artists, highlighting some of the important tourist cities and cultural sites. Since the beginning of the year showing countless landscapes, capturing  images, movies,  literary works, culture, gastronomy and special wines from its specific region

The basic principle of organizing these events is to be in the frame  of „Being West at Homeland” in our country. The presentation was given by Mr.Imre Kiss the museum director – also the author of the book of Soda, who briefly introduced the history of the soda water.

After the presentations our way led us to the theater room, along the way seen hanging on the walls items reminders of the past remit covers, metal add labels, domestic trade, international trade, financial trading, the hospitality industry’s items from hotels and other catering areas, as well history tourism cultural collections. Mr. Imre Csuja took us on an imaginary tour into a rare real world, as he held an inevitable reading of the revived Southern Transdanubia … alittle differently.

thereafter, the organizers showed the way to the cellar, heard at a presentation given by the hosts of the Southern Transdanubia. Ms. Zsuzsa Hegyi, Regional Director for Marketing at the Tourist Office in South Transdanubia who was our hostess and in brief spoked about the region. Quote: „The Southern Transdanubia is situated in a hilly landscape, which has a thousand valleys indented with many small villages. The area has huge forests, fertile river valleys, carefully cultivated gentle slopes characterize this region. Protected areas represent a major eco-tourism base. The rural tourism is well-developed in the region. It’s brimming with luscious wines. These are in taste that makes a difference from other red wine producers throughout Hungary. But the region is not only unique in wine routes, also large in number of special historic values to be seen, and is famous for its thermal waters.”

This evening we were taking back-in-time blending literature, gastronomy, fine wines of Szekszárd from the South Transdanubia region. More to it, the organizers had taken the audience to an imaginary journey to the Zsolnay Quarter at the City of Pécs. Beside the Szekszárd vineyards, the well-known brands are the wines from Villány and Tolna also worthy to mention and to be kept in mind. The region’s gastronomy representative  introduced teritory’s meat products from ranch and farms:  cattle, wild boar, donkey, goose, duck. These meat products were also brought to taste to the event. Mr. Pál Mészáros, from Szekszárd was present introducing his family owned Wine House and Cellar. Spoke about the three different types and flavor of wines he had brought  for introducing and tasting. After the presentations the visitors were invited to taste mouth-watering wines and sworn by many the best red wine in Hungary is from Szekszárd. Many may have heard or already tasted, the rich in flavor red wines from Szekszárd. Szekszárd is a unique brand of red wines, as the winegrowing region is only of a few in Hungary that is considered as one of the oldest vineyards in Hungary. No wonder at all, when we take into account the Meszáros family’s viticulture and oenology is holding on the family’s precious heritage keeping the tradition in making wines.Through the decades this tradition flows from father-to-son in making wines. Just a short story of the Mészáros Winery and Cellar as Mr. Mészáros Pál told me, Quote:”Our family brought the cellar couple of years ago. The place has the original spirit with its original 250 years old bricks. Making extra heavenly taste, mainly red wine isn’t only depending only on the soft hilly landscape, excellent soil, the special micro-climate which led to success.” Right said Mr. Mészáros, but assume much more in deed is needed and that is  the palm hands of the Mészáros Family in blending ancient traditions together with the art of modern wine-making. This evening Mr. Mészáros brought three special wines for tasting. What deeply brought a smile to me was a pleasure of seeing label wasn’t only written in Hungarian language, but also in English language. Have not really had that experiences with other labels to read beside the Hungarian language, oh only when the product is off for export, which we hardly see here in Hungary. Thumbs-up for having to have it written in English language and the tourist and foreigners working in Hungary won’t need to hold under their arms a book to translated what stands on the label. It is written in Hungarian and English language.

Another awesome spot to visit in Budapest is this Hungarian Museum of Trade and Tourism where three-in-one: the history, culture, gastronomy come alive…

on an evening by sights and sounds and of course the mouth-watering wonderful flavors taking the visitors sence by all means.

Upcoming programs for the literature-loving visitors being able to follow the Hungarian language „Being West at Homeland” see www.itthon.hu … site unfortunately, only in Hungarian language.

Just a  tinny-winny background history to development of advertising shop signs seen at the Museum … In Hungary increased significantly during the Astro-Hungary Empire. The enamel factories began being founded. The enamel industry in the 20th century had all come into existence and evolved continuously in Hungary. The advertising board was the decorative shop sign, usually painted on wood and hung above shops and more often taverns and restaurants and on basis of which the customers recognised and sought them. Publishments to these things and putting out a suitable shop sign began to dwindle in the 2nd half of the XIXth century. First folding shop door were  with wooden boards, later on  colored, enamelled advertising boards. Advertising boards began appearing not only on the shop door and above them, but also in the shop windows and in the shop as well. The most important innovations in enamelling techniques were introduces between 1891 and 1900.  It was during this period when the ground enamel containing cobalt was invented and the use of Cryolite agents were introduced …at the Museum many of these oldie signs are out on the walls  showing the era’s signs. Some of these signs are seen in the slide-show.
