VIVIAN MAIER PHOTOGRAPHER’S EXHIBITION AT THE MAI MANO HOUSE IN BUDAPEST

Hungarian House of Photography – Mai Manó House

MS. VIVIAN MAIER

“The Street photographer”

Exhibition: September, 20 – November, 25. 2012.

District VI. 20, Nagymező street – Budapest

 +36 1 473 2667

From obscurity, a legend of quality photography was born. The Hungarian House of Photography is proud to present the works of the photography world’s latest sensation, VIVIAN MAIER.

In 2007, an amateur historian John Malo of stumbled upon a box of unmarked and unnamed negatives in a Chicago auction house, and discovered one of the greatest American street photographers of the twentieth century. The legacy of over 2 000 rolls of films, 3 000 prints, and  more than 100 000 negatives, the full extent of which, in fact, Vivian Maier probably never showed  to anyone, has impressed professionals and admirers of photography alike all over the world. With only a few shows in Europe so far and before a grand tour in 2013, a selection of mostly never before displayed 50 fine prints are now exhibited at the Hungarian House of Photography in Budapest, courtesy of the Howard Greenberg Gallery, New York, NY. Vivian Maier was essentially unknown throughout her lifetime. She was born in New York in 1926 to a French mother and an Austro-Hungarian father. She traveled extensively between Europe and the U.S. and, in 1956, she ultimately settled in Chicago where she worked as nanny for more than forty years. For a brief period in the 1970s she worked as a nanny to journalist, Phil Donahue’s children. Towards the end of her life, Maier was supported by the children she had cared for in the early 50s. Unbeknownst to them, one of Maier’s storage lockers (containing her massive group of negatives) was auctioned off due to delinquent payments. She passed away in 2009 at the age of 83.

With no proper training but an eye for detail, composition and a sense for timing and humanitarian sensitivity, she recorded peculiar moments of urban America in the second half of the twentieth century. Her candid shots of mostly black and whites from the 50’s and 60’s include street scenes, portraits of children and couples, as well as abstract compositions of architectural elements. Continuing her craft into the late 1990′s, she left behind a body of work that, while still being archived and categorized, includes a series of homemade documentary films and audio recordings.  Now, with roughly 90% of the archive reconstructed, her work is part of a renaissance of interest in the art of street photography, echoing legends such as Cartier-Bresson, Airbus, or Frank. The selection presented at the Hungarian House of Photography provides a perfect insight into her ouvre by showcasing works of main subjects: children, women and couples, general cityscapes or street photography, and self-portraits.

The publication Vivian Maier – Street Photographer is available in the Mai Manó Gallery and Bookstore, while the photographs are also for sale.  In 2007, while working on a definitive history of my neighborhood of Portage Park on the Northwest Side of Chicago, I accidentally stumbled upon the photographic cache of Vivian Maier. The chain of events that this discovery set in motion has since turned the world of street photography, as well as my life, upside down. What began as my personal passion has caught the public eye, and I have now spent the last [four] years preserving and archiving Maier’s vast work, which she had kept secret for over fifty years. Vivian Maier was deeply interested in the world around her. Having picked up photography around 1950, she continued to take snapshots into the late 1990s, ultimately leaving behind a body of work comprising over one hundred thousand negatives. Elderly folk congregating in Chicago’s Old Polish Downtown, garishly dressed dowagers, and the urban African American experience were all fair game for Maier’s lens. Additionally Maier’s vision extended to a series of homemade films and audio recordings. Bits of Americana, the demolition of historic landmarks for new development, the unseen lives of the downtrodden and the destitute, as well as series from some of Chicago’s most cherished sites were all subjects to Maier continuously revisited.  Yet, the combination of Maier’s intense privacy and lack of confidence in her own photographic powers nearly resulted in her collection being consigned to oblivion. If not for an probable set of circumstances, Maier’s iconic images would have been scattered across storage lockers stuffed to  the brim with found items, art books, newspaper clippings, home films, and knickknacks. I have always been fond of a quote by Maier from an audio recording she made where we can hear her philosophize about the meaning of life and death: “We have to make room for other people.  It’s a wheel you get on, you go to the end, and someone else has the same opportunity to go to the end, and so on, and somebody else takes their place. There’s nothing new under the sun.”  – John Maloof, Chicago, 2011

CIRCUS CAVALCADE … PREMIER SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER, 22. – MUNICIPAL GRAND CIRCUS

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

GOOD MORNING … GOOD AFTERNOON… GOOD EVENING BUDAPEST AND CIRCUS LOVERS!

Be at the fascinating world in the land of Circus this fall and during the season of winter!

personally been invited to the rehearsal performance and this is what I surely wish to update to the Circus lovers!

The Fall is here again and the young and old can fall in love again with the cavalcade of attractions: balancing on ladders, parrots, sea lions, baboons and a bunch of animals right from the fields from the farmland and of course a circus cannot be a circus without a „Clown”!!!

So the new show is on at the Capital’s Grand Circus.

The Circus Cavalcade begins on September, 22  7.p.m. with international stars and Hungarian circus artist presents the young talents to its circus lovers.

One of the highlight performances was by László Simet, the high-wire artist whose performance was breathtaking at the London Olympics August, 12. during the closing ceremony. To-day, I mean yesterday he was here, back in his homeland and this time he made us hold our breath performing on the „Death Wheel”. For minutes the audience surely kept their breath.

Being at the circus cavalcade, seen the audience had a wonderful time seeing the Russian balancers swaying with their ladders, the parrot show, sea lions copying their trainers gestures, baboons and pets running in-and-out.

The program heated up with the Kenyan Athuma Zulu acrobatic group who were busy spinning to the African beats. The Duo Icaria footed members came both all along from Ethiopia. Don’t know if they made it all along on the way barefoot … anyway they gave an awesome show. They have been traveling all over the world and at the Lido in Paris the audience just didn’t go of them, stood up and clapping their hands till it got red. The Franco and Adele’s basketball parrot and standing clapping seals, rolling on the floor were just perfect time for the kids to have their little giggles. Maike and Jörg Probst pet production of a Grimm fairy tale, inspired by a German couple is unique in the European arenas. The Swiss Robert Noah‘s jumps the heights on the swinging trapeze were just as heavenly as his heights, superb performance.
At the circus cavalcade of course there were out in the arena the young Hungarian talents: the dazzling  juggler  Olivér Zsilák, the Black Roses were rolling-and-rolling on their unicycle and the awesome Diamond Troupe on the straps.

Dates to be kept in mind for September:

Saturday, September 22 – 7 p.m. Sunday, September, 23  – 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Wednesday, September, 26. –  3 p.m. Thursday , September 27  – 2 p.m. Friday, September 28 – 3 p.m. Saturday, September 29 – 11 a.m., 3 p.m., 7 p.m. Sunday, September 30 – 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Beside the delicious treats they have another addiction by many folks around, that’s the pleasure of drinking coffee, but I am not talking about brownish water. The Illy coffee is the one that preserve flavor of the coffee beans at its best.

Another pick worthwhile visiting … the Nobilis Ltd.  They have on the spot a wide variety of  air-dried natural and chocolate coated apple and sour cherry products.  Their dried apple dices and pitted sour cherries are used within countless recipes. They are present in the muesli and confectionary products throughout Europe … so I was told. The lady at the stand told me they are using the finest quality of the Belgian chocolate from  the Berry Callebau for the cover, coating of their dried fruits. It was really hard to leave the spot without the tasting.

The “Szántó Tibor” with his fine chocolates was pleased to participate for the 2nd time at the most prestigious festival of sweets at the Buda Castle. so he says. During the “Sweet Days” he also holds Masters Course and lectures: Caribbean region’s top cocoa-growing areas. Anyone rolling by his stand can have a chocolate taste and feel in the Caribbeans, so he says. He believes, the region is undoubtedly the most colorful cocoa producing region, From Northern Venezuela to Cuba can not be copied because the area, is in the flavor itself.Characterize the cocoa beans as well as the Trinitario varieties and Hispaniola, which are also from these growing areas.

Another interesting place to visit “sniff cocoa” at the GelartoRose. Well … even though we are slipping out of time  having the last hours of the summer days here in Budapest, never-the-less munching ice delicacies cannot be left out. The Spice Cream favors always hit the charts. 2ND YEAR – “SWEET DAYS” UP AT THE KING MATHEW’S BUDA CASTLE

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Sugar and spice and all things nice … so if you wish to flood in Chocolates here’s the place to go!

Cultural and gastronomic events are organized throughout the year. At one of the press conference I heard was within the 365 day/year Hungary has 6000 festivals. I think I am not on my own thinking for a small country like Hungary this is a huge number an orientation that reflects on the taste of one’s nation.

DAY1

The Sweet Days surely are here again up at the Buda Castle’s Savoy surroundings. It was officially opened by Mr. Sándor Sánta, President of the Hungarian Confectionery Manufacturers Association.  He said a few words, strolled back in time reflecting to the Maya’s history to the gathering invited  State Secretary, VIP’s, press and media representatives by saying: „ Here in 2012 with pleasure we are grateful to the Maya’s of giving not just to us but the rest of the world to be fond of the Choco beans, i.e. the chocolates.” Continued: „Also as it was written it concluded that this year will be the end of the world, but we would rather be delighted to find that these same Mayans discovered nearly 3000 years of cocoa and chocolate. The “gift of God” . In the beginning these divine sweet were only for the senior priests, rulers and generals to consume, and then much later the people came to this heavenly flavors.” Mr. Sánta was proud to announce that the Bonbonetti Ltd. has left behind it’s teenager years and become an adult, by this year’s reaching its 20th years, as a grown up! The celebration of its 20th Birthday was  held during the opening celebration. At the same time one of its eldest workers, in recognition received a choco bean award dressed in gold, as to thank him throughout the decades his dedicated work and being as a mentor to the new generation at the factory.

The finalist ladies of Cherry Queen contest were also participanting at the event. A littlebit windy and freezing weather didn’t stop them from showing their delight to get closer to the final day, the one to be chosen to wear the crown for a year to come.

Last year’s Sweet Days was a huge success in the professional and general public, so this year the number of exhibitors were upgraded to twice the size  than last year.

The festival’s guest country this year is Germany.

Thursday, on the opening day, the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry  hosted the diplomatic and economic partners and invited guests. The German National Tourist Office from Germany, in its own booth shows everyday some whereabouts,  as a tourist destination during the Sweet Days event.

The Sweet Days is an awesome event especially a meeting place for the international chocolate producers, for the confectioners, and all sorts of  sweets, candy manufacturers.  What else could be the scene of the Sweet Days as to show up again for the 2nd time at the Buda hilly side in superb venue at  the Castle’s Savoy terrace surroundings.

The Sweet Days last till 4 days with many programs and attractions awaited to be seen.  Rolling along the paths only manufacturers and distributor of quality confectionery exhibitors products can be seen and tasted. Naturally, all the major Hungarian chocolate and confectionery manufactures and beside the well-known traders,the  international and domestic brands are out on display.

Last year, Ms. Sarah J. Evans  accepted our  invitation. This year Ms. Chloé Doutre-Roussel is the guest of  honor who is internationally recognized expert. Ms.  Chloé holds courses, participates at conferences, publish papers also has created her own brand chocolate.  She is also a  grand expert at the Fortnum & Mason’s House, one of London’s biggest trading house.

During the 4 days at the Savoy terrace, anyone can join to listen to toxicological lectures. Able to consult the present dental, diabetes and nutrition consultants. The Sweet Day aren’t  just floods chocolate all around the venue, the are elegant cocktails, champagne and wine bars served at several spots.  In the evening when sun goes down, hopefully just with the dark clouds above and not raining nights, the same as in previous year  live music will be in the air: soul, funky music, delicious Hungarian made cheese, smoked meat, sausages will be available to ease the hungry ones.

Splendid time to spend with friends and family. For the “chocoholic” individuals not just the air is filled with chocolate, as all the sweet chocolate, white chocolate, marzipan chocolate, dark chocolate, hazelnut chocolate, pralines, chocolates scattered ith veggyies, chocolate figured with fruites and nuts, all imaginable shapes and sizes can  be tasted.

As mention in my early update

…  The National Gallery has also made a  chocolate sculptures, which the visitors of the Sweet Days on Sunday, the last day will be out  there is certainly filled with chocolate, sweet chocolate, white chocolate, chocolate hole, marzipan chocolate, dark chocolate, hazelnut chocolate, pralines, chocolates, chocolate figured, all imaginable shapes and sizes. . The National Gallery has also made chocolate sculptures, which the visitors at the festival on the last day, which will be on Sunday can go for the tasting and  entirely eat up the whole.

… The Sweet Days thought of the little wondering kids,  have set up tables to play, drawing spot, spoiling them just like the grandparents do by with a lot of sweets to also enjoy the sweet environment.

Last but not least, beside giving goodies …  joy to your 4 senses … eyes, noise, mouth and tummy you can admire one of Europe’s most beautiful panorama of the City of Budapest.

Updates to be continued …

CHERRY QUEEN FINALISTS VISITING THE BONBONETTI FACTORY – BUDAPEST

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Chocolate Master Training  with the  Cherry Queen finalists!

Another  task to be taken in the “Miss Cherry Queen” selection, which is to find that Hungarian lady who is absolutely matching  with the  face,  has charisma, beauty, elegance and style to be worthy as to represent  the Hungarian brand of the Cognac Cherry for a year.

A Queen as a  royalty has to be absolutely well-informed of  her subjects. Here goes the same with the eight selected ladies in competition.  It is necessary to be aware of the origins of the chocolate and the method of  cooking. Therefore, Chief Executive Mr. Sándor Sánta, at the Bonbonetti Group  held a detailed presentation on the origins, history of chocolate up to the times of to-day’s  procedures of the popular  Hungarian chocolates and the method of making them so tasty as they are.

Mr. Sándor Sándor  from now-and-then  stopped  his presentation by asking details of the heard stories to the ladies. He wished to see how intensively they are listening to his lecture. He was pleased to learn they all were with eyes and ears wide open.  After the  theoretical education  came the easy part of the day … a tour to review the  chocolate factory in operation. One of the Hungaricum,  the pálinka soaked cherries covered with dark chocolate, also known as the “cherry brandy chocolate”  was seen step-by-step  in the processing thread.  The Cherry Chocolate runs under different names when it comes to export, but the country of origin will remain, that says: Made in Hungary at the Bonbonetti Factory!

Even though there is  12 days to come to the final for one of the lady’s  in competition will receive her crown. Here is  reminder to the final to be held at the “SWEET DAYS”  at the premises of the  Buda Castle, Royal  Palace.

Sunday, September, 23. 2012

5 p.m. on sharp!

Entry tickets on the scene will be available and  within each the entry ticket a bar of

“TIBI” chocolate will be handed over!

The lunch was served with the wide variety of the fishes from the lake and they were not coated with the Boninetti chocos, but who knows there may be a time when the Gastro lovers will serve it that way. As a special feature of the program the ladies could also participate in a short sailing training program. The ladies could try their prompt learn skills by taking over the sailing boats and steer the waters at the Lake Balaton. Of course on the boats were  experienced captains, to make things go right. DAY2 AT THE ZSOLNAY QUARTER – PÉCS – HERITAGE FESTIVAL

DAY2  WITH PICKS AT THE HERITAGE FESTIVAL IN THE PREMISES AT THE HISTORICAL ZSOLNAY QUARTER.

The City of Pécs invites anyone who has the touch for old and new to pay a visit between

September, 7 – 23. 2012.  to the  Heritage Festival at the Zsolnay Quarter!

Updates to  Saturday, September, 8. 2012.

… The weather was probably the last days of the hot summer nights with clear skies and twinkling stars. Down here on the stage at the Pirogranit courtyard  “shinning stars” from the Plácido Domingo Operalia 2012 competition held in Beijing arrived  to Pécs.  The Zsolnay Quarter, was honored to welcome the presence of the young adult opera singers who gave an unforgettable opera concert with gently resting, melodious songs from Verdi, Puccini, Mozart, J. Strauss and Bizet . The hosted highly gifted  “early-stage” opera singer’s this was their  1st. stop on their concert tour. These “shinning stars” definitely are the upcoming opera voices of to-day and surely will be heard many times in the future all around the world.

The gala concert was contributed by the MAV Symphony Orchestra.

Conductor: Mr. Nicholas Milton
Australian-born, with Hungarian roots.

The concert patrons were:

The Australian Ambassador to Hungary, HE Mr. John Griffin , Mr. Szabolcs Takács – Ministry of Foreign Affairs Deputy State Secretary for Global Affairs, Mr. Tamás Nádasi –  Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and president of the branch of the Hungary-Chine,  Dr.István Kéri – President of the Pécs-Baranya Chamber of Commerce, Dr Zsolt Páva – Mayor of the City of Pécs.

The Chinese baritone, Mr. Yunpeng Wang, received the Don Plácido Domingo, Zarzuela Prize, along with the 2nd prize from the public preference in Beijing. Caught Mr. Wang for a minute, but by the end it was several minutes. Asked him how and when he decided to be an opera singer. He said the following: „I was around 4years old when I started „singing” opera melodies,or should I say mimicking my father. He loved opera melodies and day-by-day listened to the recordings and sang along with the grand opera singers. So, I joined him and soon sang  the words even not knowing the meaning of them. I might aswell say, sang opera melodies before knowing to read or write. Then, as the years went by I only sang at home. Did not really took it seriously, but  getting close to  the end of my high-school years I considered more seriously to studysinging and to use my voice properly. I just finished my high-school  2 years ago and since then being invited to a attend a scholarship in New York, I moved over to the States and I am taking my second year at the Manhattan School of Music”.  Wonderful talent young adult and as his first dream had come true wish him a lot of success and to reach his second dream, to take a leap step up on the hard boards at the sophisticated Opera Houses.

There were two 3rd Prizes, one of the awards went to the Russian mezzo-soprano, Ms. Nadezhda Karyazina, Moscow Grand Theatre Bolsolj young mezzo-soprano artist. Speaking with her she told me this is her first time to visit to Hungary, but have to come back someday, because upon arrival she was taken to a quicky sightseeing and then drove to Pécs where she has been rehearsing for the evening ’s performance. Had not seen too much neither in Budapest nor here at Pécs. She was telling me, how sad she  to be leaving the next day during the afternoon hours, so reach her flight back to Moscow. She mentioned how tasty and rich in flavors are the wines from the vineyard  here at Pécs, as she heard are from the  former vulcano Vilány Hills and the fresh fruits here in Hungary are amazingly rich in flavors.” Ms. Karyazin graduated in 2008, by taking faculty in musical and received her diploma at the Russian Academy of Theatrical Arts in Moscow. Since then performed in many roles and her favorite was performing as Laura, in Tchaikovsky’s Iolantha. She was an extremely friendly and her kindness simple radiated. I am not a fortune-teller but having heard her performance, I have a strong feeling she is going to leave her footprints on many…many boards at the world’s  well known opera houses.

Ms. Ekaterina Lekhina, a GRAMMY Award Winner in 2011 at the Best Opera Recording nomination. In 2007 she was the 1st. prize winner at Placido Domingo’s Operalia Competition in Paris.  Also in 2005 gain the 1st. prize at the international competition, St. Petersburg. She is considered as to-day’s most famous opera singer. Ms. Lekhina has already appeared on the stages at the summer opera festival in Klosterneuburg, Austria – 2006. Followed by contracts in Tel-Aviv – 2007. Volksopera Vienna  – 2007. The Royal Opera House Covent Garden, London – 2008, where she received enormous success. She also admitted, just like her motherland singer Ms. Karyazina, that their Budapest  visit was extremely short, but she will stay for a couple of days in Budapest after  leaving Pécs. She has deep hopes of coming back to Hungary again  and hopefully she will have a bit more time to have a longer stay at  historical sites in Hungary and  see the fastinating views on both side of the banks at the River Danube.

Oh Yes … The Canberra Symphony Orchestra’s energetic , sweeping chief conductor and artistic director Nicholas Milton made everybody’s evening in the Zsolnay’s courtyard at the Gala Concert  conducting the marvelous MAC Symphonic Orchestra  with the superb opera voices.  His charisma arrow the audience, that’s for sure.  Couldn’t  resist not have a chat with him, knowing his roots lay in Hungary. He told me:” My parents left Hungary to Australia in ’56. Being born later, have no memories of that age, but I am certain many have lived through those times who have their own stories of those dark days. My parents didn’t speak, seemed like taboo, of those 1956 days. I am living in Germany, but each season I travel home to visit my Mum and  two brothers  in Australia.” Asked him how come his  family name is not Hungarian?   Me: “Do you know what was your Hungarian family name?” He smiled and with an Aussie accent said: “Sure I do, it was “Molnár” … “O.K. …got it and what happened to Molnár?”  Well, it was pretty hard to pronounce it by the Mates Downunder and since the Molnár in English language stands for Miller and my father was not really keen with  to be called as a “miller”, he decided to make a twist in the name  change it to Milton”.  … “So, I see, sounds more like a British family name”.  Saw Mr. Milton agreed with me giving a wide smile, saying “YES”.  Asked him how he felt conducting the Hungarian MÁV Symphonic Orchastra and leading the opera singers. He said: “These young singers are absolutely first-class singers, you cannot say, they are just on the beginning on the road which leads to the famous grounds at the Opera Houses. Amazingly talented opera singers and the opera lovers will surely enjoying every minute of their performances no matter where they will show up  on stage.” Usually the conductors “just conduct” not making any sound beside the orchestra playing the instruments, but seeing Mr. Milton moves, sometimes I really saw him as a showman, a wink, a  wide smile, calling in the next performers by waving his hands and so forth, but in a very good sence he was also a “shinning star”.

The eveing’s  Opera Gala would not have been complete without not having a young in age, aHungarian opera talent  on stage. Ms. Ildiko Jakab, winner in 2012 at the Luciano Pavarotti International Youth Singing Competition  was invited to be with and together with the “shinning stars. ”

Ms. Ildikó Jakab, as a young lyric soprano, was a student in the class of  Ms. Éva Marton and completed her opera faculty with honors in 2012 at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of  Music. The Liszt Academy is situated in Budapest and is the unique place for higher music education. Ms. Ildikó Jakab was happy to tell: „This coming season I will be performing four-times at the Hungarian National Opera House, debuting in the The Marriage of Figaro, in role of Barbara.  At her evenings concert she won hearts and acclaimed great success by the domestic and foreigner audience.

The concert master of evening was Mr. István Trejer, violinist, who is the concert master since 1989 at the MÁV Symphonic Orchastra.  After his diploma, as a young artist Mr. Trejer, was called to sign a contract at the Academy of Music and since then he achieved excellent recognitions at many international chamber music competition .  As a soloist , he regularly plays domestically and abroad.

At the end of this awesome opera concert the opera singers, of course the Aussie conductor and other prominent, VIP personals were  invited  to a reception.

OLD AND NEW AT THE MEDITERREAN CITY OF PÉCS.

You bet there is always something in the air at the City of Pécs.

It is not the second best, but really with its marvellous historical scenes, it is the most beautiful city beside the Capital of Hungary!

Roll over to the City of Pécs and take part, leave your footsteps along the paths, enjoy the extraordinary experience, that the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter has to offer you in the coming days. The City of Pécs lays in Baranya County, south from Budapest, just a few kms. away from Croatia. A bunch of places to visit: Trade shows, watching films, listening to music programs, not to be missed the outdoor on fire cooked Hungarian specialities, visiting the old and new environment that meets the eye and much more. Absolutely an extraordinary experience to those who come for a day or relegated to an event or spend several days in this unique heritage filled with glorious beauty in-and-outside surroundings at the Zsolnay Quarter.

The cultural heritage evening was opened and greeted the audience by the Mr. István Márta, Director of the Zsolnay Culture Quarter by offering the spectacular programs throughout September, 7-23. 2012. in the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter. The major of Pécs Mr. Zsolt Páva welcomed the people by saying:“The main motto of these upcoming days is to feel at home wherever you came from by introducing our intellectual and built heritage.” The sponsors representatives from the OTP Bank and the E-on also greeted the audience and wished them a marvellous time spending during the following day’s programs at the Heritage Days.

Heritage Festival – Pécs Days – According to the Pécs’s traditions, the focal point is the showing their cultural heritage. Many open-air events will take place during the period of September, 7-23. within and outside of the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter.

Upon arrival to the Zsolnay Quarter, along the walking path, it just couldn’t have been not noticed, John Lennon’s resting glasses on the green field. A poster was placed into one of the empty glasses to bring the attention to the “Art of John Lennon” exhibition to be seen outside, close to the main square of Pécs at the House of Arts and Literature. The exhibition comes up with drawings, snaps lended by Cynthia Lennon and Yoko Ono. Also a continuosly rolling movie showing the lifeline of The Beatles and John Lennon. The exhibition is open until September, 26.2012. If there is a chance to go and see, it surely is a visit to be worthwhile. Will absolutely show and bring the feelings of the pop-of-the-pops from the mid ’60s to the ’70s!

On the first day at the Ginkgo Square, the noise of knocking hammers , drilling and other sounds brought the attention to the people strolling along the area. The Guixot De 8 (Catalan playhouse) statues were being prepared. At the end, the venue was filled with functioning surreal street games for the little children, but at the scene many adults showed up to take their challenge of getting the objects into operation. No need of batteries or plugs, shooting, balance, buffer … just go on and play.  The company’s 2 members were at the scene who were responsible for assembling and dismantling the objects. They were there to give a  helping hand in showing the proper functioning and serve the necessary explanations on the operation. No matter come rain or shine, day or night, these out-door games are fun to rediscover, examine your sence to play and your quicky abilities. As I was told, they just arrived from Ljubljana, after leaving Pécs, staying in Barcelona for just a couple of days, then off again heading to Bruxelles to another open-air exhibition. This is their 2nd appearance here in Hungary. Two years ago they were at the “Sziget” festival  in  Budapest.

Small stands offered a variety of  the locals artistic hand works.

At the open-air stage the first evening rolled the show of concerts. On the festival’s opening tonight, at the open-air stage the “curtains were rolled-up” by the French Fantazio group, a real showman performance was to be seen connected with their unique sound and beat. After a short break the Quimby pronounce: “QueenBee” surely took the hook and the audience sang along and started to dance. Quimby doesn’t not need to be introduced to the Hungarians. They are one of the most popular bands of over two decades. During their career they issued nine albums. Here’s alittle peak: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SvMeEQQ_wc

Many… many venues to visit. Here just mentioning a few options, but there is dozen-and-dozen of places that offers excellent entertainment and a full day of experience at the Island of the Zsolnay Quarter.

ANOTHER HERALD NEWS TO THE SWEET DAYS … NOMINATION FOR THE CHERRY QUEEN CROWN

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Two weeks .. Fourteen Days to come for the Sweet Days in Budapest !

There will be a bunch of programs for small children and adults of any age. The scene is the same as last year’s where the Sweet Days were. Up on the Buda hilly side, in the garden and yard area of the Buda Castle. It is one of the best places to visit, also one of the most beautiful panoramas in Europe.  Having a  glance upon the River Danube and to see the historical buildings, that tells the stories in your tourist guide-book or any tour  guide, but if your lucky enough your local Mate will update you on the backgrounds that meet your eyes.

Just a reminder of the couple of programs to attend, see previous update at:

https://rollinginbudapest.com/2012/09/05/sweet-days-are-here-again-in-budapest/

Now, I wish to draw the attention to a sophisticated arrangements which is new this this coming Sweet Days. The organizers decided that the tradition of the Hungarian chocolates have had a great past and  today in 2012 they wish to raise to fame by glory with chosing a crowed Queen to continuously represent  the   Bonbenetti  Brand – the Hungarian famous and mouthwatering  Cherry Chocolate. Now, within the chocolate this ain’t an ordinary cherry. It is a sour cherry soaked in brandy  and then coated with bitter chocolate. Some are craftsman’s confectionery and some are mechanically manufactured.  I am absolutely sure those foreigners visiting Hungary who once had the chance to taste it, will never forget the enjoyment  of the Cherry Choco made in Hungary. The alcohol content will not cause any problem, unless eating a whole box (250 grams) of Cherry Chocos’.

Alright, back to the future … upon invitation, participated at the press announcement and introduction of the 8 ladies to have been nominated in the competition to be chosen as a representative of the Hungarian Cherry Chocolate, at the Hotel Hilton, Budapest.  The “Bonbonetti Group” chocolate representatives, and other invited guests  held the press conference.  The floor was open by Mr. Sándor Sánta, Bonbonetti Group CEO, President of the Association of the Hungarian Confectionery speaking aboutthe forthcoming Sweets Days (can be read below),  Mr. George Füleky, main organizer of the Sweet Days Budapest,  Ms. Sylvia Magony, Eventure production – main organizer of  the  Miss Cherry Queen, Ms. Martha Makány, Fashion Designer, Ms. Agnes Dobó, Miss World Hungary 2010. The 8 ladies were also present. Their age was between 18 and 28.

From  Thursday, September, 20 there will be an ongoing audience choice for the audience prize. The audience is called to make their own choice by voting to  the most beautiful lady seen on the catwalk and on posters at the “Sweet Days”. The votes can be carried out during Friday, Saturday, September 21-22, at 5 p.m. when the ladies will  be walking through the catwalk wearing  Ms. Márta Makány, disigner’s, Envy Fashion, Freestyler collections. At 6 p.m. they will show up at the stand of the Bonbonetti Group. Sunday, September, 23.  at the day of the “Final Tour”.  At first, the show will go off with daytime wear (Envy Fashion), Second: Sporty wear (Freestyler), Third: casual clothing.
It may sound a bit unusual for a Beauty Queen competition without the “beachwears”, instead they will be showing up in sporties. Nice thought  for a change by the organizers, as they say … beauty comes from inside and not depending on how many string hold the wear.

The ladies will have a full week to participate at several events. From September 8 untill September 23, the ladies will be taken on a joint tour: Sailing on the Lake  Balaton from the port at  Balatonfüred, Sunday Brunch at the Hilton Hotel, Chocolate Master’s course at the Bonbonetti HQs, a fashion show at the Hotel Hilton, Body Art and Spinning programs at the Holmes Place, Selecting Personal fragrance at the Croisette  Le Perfume with Mr. Zsolt Zólyomi purfume guard, dental screening, baking pastries at the Zsolnay Confectionery with  Mr. George Bachmann  pastry master, and also will be at the Bonbonetti Sweet Days booth.

So sweet lovers get set and go for your favorite sweeties and give a try, taste teh Cherry Chocos’, don’t be afraid to get soaked in brandy… this time it won’t be dangerous and many will just can’t get enough, love it!

This year Germany will be the Guest of Honor, bringing their delights to show the Hungarians their unique products and to give tips at their stand to the visitors to their forthcoming visit to Germany.
