LACCA or varnish. Red lacquer!

The latest collection of the Linea-L LACCA fashion show took place on Tuesday, May, 7. 2013. Gundel Restaurant’s  Queen Elizabeth ballroom, for many known as the oldest restaurant in Budapest.

Before the  models came on the catwalk,   two guest singers Ms. Böbe Szécsi and Ms. Saci Szécsi (previously  in the „VOICE” competition) opened the fashion show.

The fashion event was all about the young Hungarian designer Ms. Edit Apáti with her 2013 spring – summer collection of hottest designs with classic elegance rolling along the current fashion trends for the classy ladies. The Linea-L Collection Fashion Style Consulting Ltd. came out with a new style, completely different seen previously. These dresses speak for themselves, from head to toe so elegant and more over, ready to wear. This time the designer’s collection dominant colors were basically white, gray and turquoise. The designer now insisted to an elegant, sleek forms and quality materials. Ms. Edit Apáti’s creations are composed as art, made for women wearing them on weekdays or dress for special occasions and most of all who wish to feel good in their outfits. Awesome selection of dresses not only for the gals in their teens.  Ms. Apáti kept in mind to design, to come up with the classy and romantic style in creating some sophisticated models for the ladies over their teens. These pieces of dresses and shoes were absolutely feminine. Definitely, her designs were not out of style, no way!

Hopefully, in the future “the clothing fanatics” at this evening’s fashion will drop by to the LACCA as they got the hook on one or two of these sophisticated dresses , will drop by to the LACCA to pick them up and wear them during the long-awaited summer of 2013.

The partners of the LACCA Fashion Show were: Dr. Rose Private Clinic, INTERFA (Funiture Manufactury Ltd.), Absolute Model Management, Model Advantage, and also the Vincze shoes.

On the bottom line … been to a couple of fashion shows and seen many outfits, but Ms. Apáti’s  designed collection was the best I have seen for some time. Thumbs up for her and maybe  her dresses  will not only be on the catwalk  in Hungary, but also cross the boarders  to  the International Fashion World  in the near future.

Ms. Edit Apáti can be seen in the slide show, dressed in white, standing in the middle of two models.

City Park surprised the visitors on May, 1. 2013!

First of May is a National Holiday in Hungary, So, there was time to go out enjoy the possibilities offered by the nature. The City Park indeed offered so much attractions, food, entertainments, relaxing hard after the hard weekdays. The weather skipped the Springtime, never-the-less was a G’day to feel the warmth of the ray as the sun shined in our early summer weather which suddenly blasted in. To-day the Metropolitan Grand Circus also wished to take part within the pleasure, to share with those walking by to see two stars, two elephants participating  in the Circus Maximus show brought alomng from Italy. Both were taken out of their tents at the Metropolitan Grand Circus, to roll along the City Park in Budapest, to greet the folks rolling by. A kinda “sightseeing” tour for them and the folks out there. unfortunately, one of the elephant didn’t count on such a huge number of audience and perhaps got totally scared, so the planned long stroll around the building of the Széchényi Bath and Spa Budapest at the City Park had to be shortened and soon taken back to their tent, their “homeland”. Acrobat artists dressed in beautiful costumes were out as well.

Director József Richter  Metropolitan Grand Circus and  dr. Zsigmond Kriza  Executive Director MACIVA Nonprofit Ltd.  wished to bring a sample of the show with the two elephants, to show what goes go inside the huge tent at the Metropolitan Grand Circus. So visitors are kindly awaited not just for to-day’s show but to see more just  take a couple of steps to the  Metropolitan Grand Circus and be present at the breathtaking show brought to  the young age and not so youngones b  the unforgettable Circus Maximus from Italy.

INTERNATIONAL FIGHTERS’ RUN 2013 – PÓSTELEK – HUNGARY

Snaps by  Szilvia  Őszi

The success was repeated  on April, 27. at this year’s Fighters’ Run in Póstelek – Hungary

The town of Póstelek lie close to the City of Békéscsaba which held the Royal Vodka Fighters’ Run competition. After last year’s major success, brought it alive again this year for the second time and held the Grand Fighters’Run International Competition. Compared to the last year’s figures more than extra 100 entires arrived to the organizing team led by Mr. Attila Vozár. This year there were more than 800 ‘Warriors’ out on the uneven rocky, climbing the rope, vehicle tires, running through a hunted castle, muddy, icy, electricity, smoke and fire,  “enjoying” the hit of the cannon water shot field to start their run  on the 7 and 14 kms. The competition was tight and extremely tough similar to the military or not too far from saying the physical „SWAT” team training. Among the competitors participated a couple of grand sportsmen like Mr. Imre Pulai Olympic champion canoeists, Mr. Krisztián Palkovics previously member of the Hungarian hockey team, Mr. Peter Kropki the former Ironman. The „Battlefield” was inch-by-inch carefully constructed and more to it the nature also made it harder for the competitors to fight against the boiling sun and the thirty something  celsius degree in the shade.

The eldest competitor was the 62 years-old man Mr.György Kláben, who  ran through the whole distant int he 7kms. race.

The top three winners on podiums were: The winner in the 7 kms individual run was Mr. Balint Mester (X2S HaibikeTeam) trianonist was pretty much in disadvantage on the run, but kept on the hard race and after all crossed the finish line at first. Quoting his words: “When I had to climb a rope, I did not know what will be on the other side, thought just to climb down on the rope will come, pretty much surprised me when I saw there is nothing on the other side. I felt down and then lost about  half-a-minute. At that point I told myself I have to win, I can win.”

Last year’s winner, the athlete sportsman from the City of Békéscsaba Mr. Victor Dobra finished the race in the second place. Quoting his thoughts after the race: „Unfortunetely, I ran myself out at, in  the castle. This year it seemed to me the muddy field  area was longer than the last year one and I just kept on losing my breath.”

The 7-kms third place went out to the Ethiopian Mr. Ashenafi Erkolot live to surprise in this race.

Quote: “I was not really enlightened as to what is waiting for me out there. Thought it is going to be a comfortable 7 kilometer run.  You can imagine how I felt when I suddenly found myself face to face with the first obstacle. Of course did not turn back. What an experience, one adventure after another. Twice I lost my shoe at the water jump. Luckily I found it in the middle of the swamp, and if this wasn’t yet enough for me  had to survive running through  electricity shock wave. Finally passed it over  and the other extreme obstacles,  so that was the first race of mine at the Fighters’ Run and the shock of my life.” Asked him after hearing him expecting a lovely run in the woods. He from Ethiopia where and since when he practised is running skills. Quote: „I was 6 or 8 years-old when I started running. There ain’t too many options for sporting in Ethiopia. Ran every day kilometers-by-kilometers.  I live now in Hungary for 6 years and awaiting receive my Hungarian citizenship. Have family here already, a 5 years old little girl.”  He said his Hungarian is far from good but he is trying day-by-day to learn more-and-more the Hungarian language. As he says, it is a very hard language. Well, if he will „train” enough of his Hungarian like he trains himself in running then there won’t be any problem for him speaking fluently in just a short time.

This day was tough in many ways as mentioned previously and on the bottom line wish to congratulate to Mr. Attila Vozár who had a dream to fulfill and bring on the field the at Póstelek the Fighters’ Run International Competition and all the organizers helping hands.

Last but not least congratulation goes out to all those individuals who participated in this competition. Without them there wouldn’t have been any Fighters’ Run competition!  There were young couples, married pairs both in the running field and it was such a delightful seen to have seen parents and grandparents cheering for their family members. Well done indeed. Lovely gathering and hopefully not just for the viewers but for racers will be a day to remember.

CHAPTER2 – ANZAC DAY COMMEMORATION AT SOLYMÁR, 2013 – HUNGARY

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The Commonwealth War Cemetery was established  at Solymár in 1947. There are 13 Australian and 6 New Zealand servicemen buried there. They were the members of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF), serving jointly with the British Royal Air Force (RAF). Their planes were downed in the closing  phase of World War II.Allied planes were sent over to Hungary in 1944-45 to weaken the Nazi was effort, especially during the siege of Budapest, which was one of the most hard-fought battles of the war. The 19 men who are buried here in Solymár were all killed in the timeframe of seven months in ’44. On April, 16. 1944 a plane of RAF squadron no.142 was downed near Gyál, 2 Australians, John Boden and Fred James were among the six.man crew killed.

All the way across the Ocean Ms. Elizabeth Capelin traveled from Australia to Hungary to be for the first time on ANZAC DAY at Solymár where her uncle lays in the Hungarian soil. This Chapter is  about the “Book of Life” of Sergeant John Stuart Boden,  her uncle.  Did not wished to summarize the storyteller words of Ms. Capelin, so asked her after the Service at the Australian Ambassador’s Residence to share her deeply sad emotional thoughts with my readers. She was please to do so and just received it to update it. Also here is to see the video recorded of her speech at Solymár: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqoSA0ucycA

Below can read a “long story” of  the “short life” of  Sgt. John Stuart  Boden  which  it is worthwhile to read it to the bottom line.

Quote: “Distinguished guests, Ladies and Gentlemen. Good Morning.  I am Elizabeth Capelin from Australia.

It is with great pride and honour that I tell you the story of my uncle, Sgt. John Stuart Boden, a Royal Australian Air Force Flight Sergeant, who is buried here after he and his crew were shot down over Hungary during World War 2.

John is here because he was the Navigator of a crew from the 142nd Squadron, part of the RAF Bomber Command. They were based in Amendola, Italy, and on the night of the 16th April 1944 they were detailed to bomb the marshalling yards at Gyál, near Budapest, here in Hungary.  Nothing was heard from them after take-off and they failed to return to base.

A Hungarian gentleman saw the aircraft go down near Laszlo Farm and it was the identification tags of my uncle, John Boden, and the other Australian onboard, Fred James that identified their plane.

The members of this JA 127 Wellington bomber crew wereRAF    Flt. Sgt Kenneth Turley, 1st Pilot, RAF    Flt Sgt. Douglas Stunt, 2nd pilot, RAAF  Flt. Sgt John Boden, Navigator, RAF    Sgt. Clifford Hitchcock, Air Bomber, RAAF  Warrant Officer, Fred James, Wireless Operator Air, RAF    Sgt. James Wood, Air Gunner.

They all perished that night. In death, as in life, they remain here today as a crew, having shown great bravery and paid the ultimate sacrifice for their countries and for peace.

John Boden was not only an uncle. He was also a loved and cherished eldest son, a big brother, a nephew, a cousin, a best friend, a husband, a colleague and a mate.  The sadness of his loss was felt on every one of these levels. He had so much to live for and his life was cut short at the age of 21. John Boden was a tall, fair-haired, fit young man.  He was the eldest son of Kathleen and John Boden, and the first Australian generation of Irish extraction.  He grew up with his sister, Mary, my mother, and his brother, Richard, in the rural town of Casino in northern NSW.  Here his father ran a drapery business, and he and his siblings enjoyed a carefree childhood.  They holidayed at their beach cottage at Evans Head, where extended family and friends would gather over the summer holidays.  My mother has passed on many stories of the antics and fun that took place there, and how John enjoyed surfing, swimming, and various sports. Following his schooling in Casino and two years boarding at The Scots College in Sydney, he studied Engineering at the University of Queensland for a year before enlisting in the Royal Australian Air Force on 22nd May 1942. His initial air force training was at Bradfield Park in Sydney after which he embarked from Melbourne in September 1942 on an American troop ship, the “Poelau Laut”.  It was a non-stop 25 day voyage across the Pacific Ocean to San Francisco, and then a train trip to Winnipeg in Canada, where he was a member of the No. 61 Navigator course at the Empire Training School, graduating in February 1943. After some leave in New York City, John boarded another troop ship, the “Queen Elizabeth”, arriving in Scotland before travelling by train to Bournemouth in Southern England. Once in Great Britain, John’s training continued with time spent in West Freugh in Scotland at the No. 4 Air Operations Squadron, which was a training school for navigators, observers and bomb armers. More than two months followed at the No. 21 Observer Training Unit at Moreton-in-Marsh in England where night bomber crews were trained using Vickers Wellington aircraft. With the 142nd Squadron John flew in both the British North Africa Force and the Central Mediterranean Force.  He completed 12 bombing missions from Amendola, in Italy, night bombing German supply lines in Northern Italy and across the Balkan countries.  In his log book the 13th mission, his last, is recorded in someone else’s hard-writing and it reads “Budapest – Missing”. In my search for a broader picture of who John was, I have made some incredible discoveries.  First, I stumbled upon a letter in an Australian newspaper that led me to a man called Stuart Austin who lives in Australia.  He is the nephew of Kenneth Turley, the RAF 1st pilot in John’s crew. The realization that our uncles had flown together has resulted in us sharing information to piece together our family histories. Sadly, the last entry in Kenneth Turley’s log book is written in the same handwriting as John’s, and also reads “Budapest – Missing”. My second discovery was John’s wife. John fell in love with a young English girl, a driver in the RAF, called Ethel Syratt, known as Pat, whom he met at a dance in Bournemouth after arriving in England. They spent every possible moment together whilst John was in England, and at the end of his training they married in September 1943. Their 10 day honeymoon was spent in London after which John flew out of England and, sadly, Pat never saw him again. At the end of the war, Pat remarried, moved to Australia and began a new life.  After a lot of searching I was very excited to find Pat, aged 90 and living in Queensland.  She was equally as excited to be back in touch with our family.  We have met together and she has shared with me so much about John. We keep in touch and I now have both a lovely new aunt and a friend. My third finding was an 89-year-old gentleman called Don Cruden, a navigator who was in the same RAAF intake as John, and so he mirrored John’s training from Sydney to Bournemouth, via Canada.  He didn’t know John well, but has been extremely generous with his detailed descriptions of their war-time experiences, and has kindly answered my many questions. And finally, I have spoken to the wife, the sister and a son of John’s best friend from his childhood in Casino.  I have found that John’s memory lives on in the Every-Burns family as well as our own. Many members of my family, along with the new contacts I have made, have shared anecdotes, photographs and letters about John.  They have all touched my heart with their generosity and interest in helping me to tell John’s story. Amongst my mother’s treasures of her lost brother is a recording of John’s voice on an old Red Cross record, which I have had re-mastered on a CD.  Hearing his voice for the first time was amazing.  It melted away the years and it was as though John was here with us still. We aren’t the first in our family to travel from Australia to visit this place, but this time John’s story has been told at an ANZAC service, and I would like to thank the Australian Ambassador to Hungary Mr. John Griffin, for this wonderful opportunity.  It is of great comfort to the families of these Australian and New Zealand men buried here that their sons are remembered and cared for so far from home.  Thank you to those who look after this solemn sanctuary and to those who arrange this ANZAC service every year.

John Stuart Boden has not been forgotten. After 69 years and 9 days he still lives on in the hearts and minds of his family, the families of his friends, and all those who loved him. Like so many others who served their country, John is a true hero and will forever remain so. Lest We Forget.”

ANZAC DAY COMMEMORATION

April, 25. 2013.

Solymár – Hungary

The Australian Embassy in Budapest arranged to hire a courtesy bus to assist with transportation back-and-forth to Solymár to the Commonwealth War Cemetery for members of the Australian and New Zealand communities and as a former „Sheila” was honoured to take part at the ANZAC DAY Commemoration.

Ambassadors, official, military and diplomatic representatives from Australia, New Zealand, Hungary: Lt.Gen. Zoltán Orosz Ministry of Defence, Dr.Attila Tilki National Assembly, Mr. Péter Wintermantel Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Turkey: H.E. Hasan Kemal Gür,  Pakistan, Canada, United Kingdom, France and South Africa. laid their wreaths. The officiating Ministers were: Reverend Dr. Frank Hegedűs Anglican Chaplain, Budapest,  Reverend Canon Denis Moss Retired Anglican Chaplain and also a Rabbi was present at the Service.. The commemoration began with the National anthems of both sides performed by the Australian musicians from the Rossmoyne Senior High School, Perth, Western Australia. They are currently on an European concert tour and  they were at Solymár participating at the Service of the Australian and New Zealand servicemen who are buried here. With their presence for all the individuals at the Anzac Day commemoration made the service more memorable.

The Australian Ambassador to Hungary H.E. John Griffin invited the ambassadors and other attending the Ceremony to a refreshment at the Australian Ambassador’s Residence.  I belive the laid body’s souls at Solymár felt the love for them as strong as the day’s sun shined on us. At the Ambassador’s Residence the guests could spend some time to have a talk and enjoy the refreshments and the could not be inevitable without  the Aussie meat pie and the jolly good Anzac cookies.

ANZAC Day became a tradition and a Public Holiday in Australia. Time for mourning to the Australians and New Zealanders who have died in wars. It was established in April, 25. 1915, when Australian and New Zealand Army corps landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula. Those men whom served on the Gallipolo Peninsula created a legend, adding the word „ANZAC” to our vocabulary and creating the notion of the ANZAC spirit. In 1916 at the first year’s anniversary it was officially announced to be named „ANZAC DAY”. Since then, April, 25 is a day to remember of the HEROES who were reported “MISSING IN HUNGARY”, and  stopped for a minute to remember here at Solymár also of those Hungarians who died in all wars,  especially during the World War II.

In brief … Quote: “Since the human life is existing on our planet called earth, the World War II. was the bloodiest, deadliest war the world had ever seen. More than 48 million people died, many of them innocent  civilians. Twenty-one million militant persons died in the wars. More than 50 nations took part in the wars which change the world forever. All nations suffered enormous tremendous casualties. The Australian casualties from enemy action during the war were breathtaking, 27000 were killed and 23500 wounded. However when non-battle casualties are included these figures raise to 40000 killed an another 66500 wounded and a total of 12000 New Zealanders lost their lives. Almost one million Australians both men and women served in the second world War. The fought in campaigns in Europe, the Mediterranean and North Africa. Also in South East Asia and other parts of the Pacific. The Australian mainland came under the direct attack for the first time as Japanese aircrafts bombed towns at North-West Australia and Japanese submarines  attacked the Sydney Harbour.

The Budapest’s Commonwealth War Cemetery contains 173 burials of the second world war. There are 13 Australian and 6 New Zealand servicemen buried in the Commonwealth War Cemetery at Solymár. All of them airmen who were brought in from sites all over from Hungary during the war. Three of these burials are unidentified. Many other parachuted safely to the ground, only to be catched and made them prisoners of war. Only 41% of bomber command air-crew survived, 45% were killed during the WORLD War II. Of those who joined the bomber command at the beginning of the war only 10% survived towards  the end of the war. These statistics are devastating and represents the sacrifice made by Australians and New Zealanders that effected our lives even to-day. All the allied war graves here at Solymár holds those airmen who were shot down over Hungary in 1944 and 1945. They served with the RAF and the RAAF squadron in strategic bombing incidence. The allied planes were sent over Hungary in 1944-45 to weaken the Nazi war effort, especially during the siege of Budapest, which was one of the most hard-fought battles of the war.”

During the commemoration time … there was put aside by remembering the Hungarian soldiers …  approximately 170000 Hungarian soldiers and  600000 civilians who died during World War II. and the many cities which were damaged and where the hardest hit took the capital, Budapest.

The war cemetery at Solymár is a solemn place were families can remember in national pride and gratitude all those who fought and died for freedom in the world.

STRONGBOW GOLD CIDER NOT JUST FOR THE PLEASURE OF THE HUNGARIAN TASTE

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

You just walk into a trendy bar with friends and there are dozens-and-dozens of alcoholic beverages on top of the shelves. What could Strongbow Gold Cider do to become your must-have drink? Well soon many invited guests who attended the early evening’s party on Thursday, April, 25 at the Trafik Bar and Restaurant soon found out what Strongbow Gold is all about, as they got aquantied with the latest special refreshing cider drink which worldwide has launched by getting famous. For the first time was introduced only in Hungary the special ingredients of the  flavor of honey and apple, both origins from the fields of Hungary.  The fresh new flavor with its 5% of alcohol gave more to the sparkling flavor, cool and enjoyable. Indeed the brand not only came out with a new flavor, but also a new idea with its apples with honey. On the spot ideas, thoughts of the next Strongbow flavor were around  on the top list. Many advised to have the next Strongbow flavor with honey and pears. The bottle’s design also worth a word or two with its unique label design and the colors of gold and black really caught the eye. By-the-way the invited guest to this party were asked to wear outfits colored gold-and-black. Some outfits were also outstanding. The fresh new flavor with its 5% of alcohol gave the sparkling flavor more enjoyable. Indeed the brand not only brought a new flavor, but also a new idea with its apples with honey. Based on the Hungarian consumer feedback the Strongbow cider’s sweet taste was to prepare a feminine refresher. We were told this special taste hit the nail of a 1940s jazz song in America, which inspired the beverage makers to create the apple-honey combination. This cool jazz movement  inspired our country’s well-known DJs to prepare three new piece of music, including Ms. Julia Carpenter, Mr. Chris Lawyer-Bricklake and Mr.Lotfi Begi, keyboard player in the band  called: Compact Disc, (Last year, in 2012 they represented Hungary at the Eurovision Song contest.) So the three of them introduced their own remix version to that oldie jazz tune. The composed composition will soon be available on the website http://www.strongbowmusic.hu . Besides the Strongbow cider, Dj’s music was in the air and the Renaissance of new combinations in fashion also had an impact, with Ms. Kata Szegedi award-winning fashion designer‘s latest collection  which were all inspired by the cider.

Spotted standing around the Bar two persons who  rang the bell for me,  looked just like the Blues Brothers. Told them  and right away asked them to pardon me, not was my intention to make fun out of them and they both bursts out laughing and the little  shorter person said,  he ain’t as fat as Jake Blues, but told them their height and the black hat surely is a great reminder. So they posed, laughed and kept on tell their friends around them they were called the Dutch Blues Bothers. see the happy-go-lucky guys in the slide show.

Wish to have a cool cider in the coming heatwaves of this year’s summer in Budapest, no need to think twice wear your steps will take your. Visit the Trafik Bar and Restaurant at  District V. Hercegprimás Street Budapest  for  the latest Strongbow Gold.

Also the Adventure Train Orpheum car offered a special „traveling-exhibition” of photographer Mr. Gábor Tamási railway themed pictures. Prehaps this is the first train rolling on the tracks presenting an exhibition in the world.

Rolling Library was on board, anyone could feel free to take some reading to their seat and when finished the reading they were kindly asked to bring it back to the Orfeum Car.  The library will grow-and-grow by the travelers leaving their unwanted books on the train and most probably will be appreciated in the future by passengers enjoying to read them later.

Arriving to Kosice the train rolled to the „heating house” international craft exhibition which was an entry free program organized by MÁV Nostalgia Ltd.

On our way back, in the evening mini-dance contest was out for Latin American dances with valuable prizes for the dancing queens  and kings. Also prizes went upon the draws to those who gave the correct answers on the special MÁV questioner form given which was distributed after our departure at the Western Railway Train Station in Budapest.

After the arrival to Kosice groups were formed and visitors could join a local tourist guide, but some individuals  rather took the adventure tour by themselves. One of the city’s most prominent monument not to be missed was of the great works of Gothic architecture, the Episcopal Cathedral of St. Elizabeth. The cathedral has been the site from the 13th century. At first there was a church that burned down in 1378. Then started the construction of the cathedral, in 1521 it was finished completely. The three-nave hall church had another fire in 1556, when the altar become a victim. The present appearance was reconstructed in the 19th centuries by the renewal won by Mr. Imre Steindl who upon his redevelopment plans the Parliament  was designed. The weather was marvelous and the thumbs up for the arrangements of the staff on the Experience Train.

Some coming up journeys together with  family and friends to join on the MÁV Experience Trains:

The final countdown came to “The End” of the 20th Titanic International Film Festival  March, 13. 2013, at Budapest. Before the  Gala took place had a chance to have a word with Mr. Jiri Menzel at the buffet in the Urania Cinema.  He told me he had a splendid time meeting friends here in Budapest, where he loves to come by once in a while. Seen he was relaxed and as always keeping up with joking. As seen in the slide show having conveniently sitting relaxing his legs. Asked him did he copy this way of  sitting from the americans, he immediately answered with a wide smile, Quote: “NO … the Americans learn this way of sitting from me”. So this  was  just one proof of his great sence of humor. After having a word with him, he and his interpreter went inside the cinema to open the night at the Gala.

In the international jury committee seated the Irish producer Mr. Morgan Bushe “Nothing Personal”, director Mr. Szabolcs Hajdu (Macerás ügyek) Sticky Matters and (Fehér tenyér) White Palms. bibliotheque Pascal and  the president  Mr. Jiri Menzel.

DIRECTOR MR. JIRI MENZEL TOGETHER WITH THE HUNGARIAN MOVIE LOVERS – BUDAPAEST

There are only hours left to „The End” to the 20th Titanic International Film Festival  2013 – Budapest!

Indeed the Czech barrels of its Staropramen beer will be empty. Also an end stop with the vibration going to and being around the festival during the past days at the cinemas for the movie lovers.  For the time being, to-day had the opportunity to see at the exhibition brought to the VAM Design Center introducing Prague’s contemporary architectural to be showing the future world of its sights and sound of the modern Prague.  What may have really tickled many visitors was to see personally, the most successful Czech New Wave director Mr. Jiri Menzel.

Early Thursday evening the air was pretty hot … no … not because the hot summer had arrived to Budapest, yet not …have to wait for that, but for the arrival to hold a presentation by the 75 years old  magnificent  Czech director Mr. Jiri Menzel to the VAM Design Center in  Budapest. To meet Mr. Menzel was the cream on top of the cake … why? … because probably not too many of the Czech citizens may see him personally like we have had been lately here in Budapest.

While awaiting for his arrival on the main stage two presentation took place and in between tasting Czechs food and beer eased the thirst. Indeed, visitors felt a bit like being in Prague. The first presentation was about the Czech New Wave Academy Award-winning director’s opera. Overall, were warmly advised to see it.

The second presentation was about the exhibition titled “New Face” of Prague to be seen on  the spot.  The presentation was by Czech historians and theoreticians of modern and contemporary architecture,  Mr. Petr Kratochvíl and Mr.Zdeněk Lukes, whereas they gave an overview of the Czech capital city and its modern buildings –  Quote: „The tourists visiting Prague are most familiar with its classic face. That is natural when tourist visit a city or a town.  Well-known,  building a new area needs to constantly evolve and be in dialogue with the past and present. So far hopefully we are doing well, but right now we are far away to compare any similar characteristics to the city of Vienna. We inherited from the socialism era  quite disgusting buildings in Prague.”  Wish to emphasize two superb shots of area  seen at the exhibition. One was the marvelous new age in the design concept to the new neighbourhood around Prague. The surrounded area with the greenery, the house constructions on a relatively small and abruptly slooping site makes the site more-and-more attractive. The tall building has the ability to form a point of orientation, let alone within a unique historic setting can also cause a problem … as tested at the financial district of London, where the commerce have begun to overshadow  St.Paul’s cathedral.  So Praha now is faced with a dilemma of its current process of decentralisation. The homework is out …   under what conditions to allow the skyscrapers into the new local centers. Well we will see what tomorrow may bring!

The second shot of demo was the eye-catching design of  the Slavia Praha Football Stadion, which is to be the most modern sport area in the Czech Republic. It combines a variety of functions… alongside the stadium of 21000 seats for footy lovers! Also thought of having space for office, hotel and conference center and a footy stadion without a fan shop won’t be missing as well. Als, the comfort will be available for the V.I.P.’s with boxes and a club area to get set for the ball!

Here came the fullstop to the presentation! Suddenly faces  and shoulders turned away from the stage, Mr. Menzel half-way walking through  the hall caught everybody’s attention. Visitors wished to be the first to catch him and ran to him to be sure to get his autograph … so our virtual trip to tomorrow’s Prague came to an end.

Stepping to the stage Mr. Menzel was offered some „homeland” the Staropramen beer, but as he stated, he  hates  beer. Hearing that remark, later asked him has he tasted the Hungarian pálinka? He told me he has, but not fond of it so much. Q.: And how about the wines from the land of Hungary? A.: quote I prefer wine and in the case of wines I like the red wines.” Asked him whether he had wine from Szekszárd, one of the best or the best red wine originate from that area. With a wide smile and nodding his head – Quote: “I have previously visited Szekszárd and tastes the red wines  over there and they are very intensive, one of a kind.”  He gave an exclusive presentation and showed snaps of his new movie. One of the visitors asked him does he have in mind to come to Hungary to direct at a theater. Mr.Menzel right away had the answer – Quote: “It depends on how much they pay.  Have not yet been asked to do so, but who knows, it can or may happen but my price is high! By-the-way previously visited and worked in Hungary. Thanks to my lucky star I worked here already and when I ain’t feeling too good at home, I drop over here.” Of course everyone laughed at his comments but seeing the twinkle in his eyes said it all … he himself was also happy of what he said. Well that’s a nice way coming to TheEnd of his a discussion.  After Mr. Menzel presentation movie lovers were lucky enough to see, meet, speak with him  so for many made  their day by getting an autograph personally from him. He was as  generous as can be, signed his name on one’s  label of the Staropramen beer, on a beermat, at the page of his book, some folks brought his photo to be signed,  on the leaflet of the Titanic festival, on lady’s T-shirt, on their skirts and for many signed his name on the bared hands and so forth.
