„Head First” – the only chance to see in English @ Trafó House

Trafó House of Contemporary Arts

District, IX., 41. Liliom Street – Budapest

         Friday, November, 29.  – 8 p.m.

A performance that gives birth to itself … 4 dancers attempt the impossible: to get the audience to take part of the experience of giving birth. They share their own personal stories and memories of being in labor, including bodily functions, traumatic and euphoric events. They try to turn everything inside out that happened to them in the unconscious realm: beyond closed eyes and beneath the skin. They use humor, strong physical expression, words, images and sounds. To everyone that was ever born and is still alive … we don’t remember how we were born, and we won’t be able to tell the story of our dying. Giving birth is an equally elemental borderline event, outside real space and time – a rarefied experience.

Giving birth is the most personal public matter, and The Symptoms (a.k.a. Hungary’s most liked contemporary dance company) manages to create a shared experience of what is deeply intimate and individual. They achieve this by means of articulated, as well as mute confessions, and through the universal language of dance. The four female dancers, one of them an expectant mother, and the choreographer, Réka Szabó, reach back into their somatic knowledge of giving birth. They go beyond their personal sphere and put their subject into a broader social context. Also, they touch upon the much disputed right to free birth. The performance features a spectacular production design. This, coupled with a splendid sense of humor takes us back to the origin of life through a dramaturgy similar to the process of labor. Rhythmic contractions expand real time and space. They guide us, the audience, deep into the realm of instincts and the subconscious; gradually preparing us for the traumatic, yet euphoric moment of release.” curator -Orsolya Bálint.

In brief about the Symptoms Group: The Symptoms is a 15-year old performance group constantly looking for new ways of expression, of making an impact and making people think, feel and connect. They move freely across genres. They believe in the infinity of expression, the healing power of humor, and personality. They maintain that if they dig deep enough, they will get to the common human experience. Each of their productions is a different world and has a new language. Their creations are thought-provoking, dramatic, unfeigned and liberating. They are in dialogue with today’s world. They have created shows for the big and the small stage, documentaries, video blogs, theatrical adventure games, dance theater in education works for high school students, and they offer morning gymnastics classes and workshops as well.

Saturday, November, 30.  – 7 p.m. and Sunday, December, 1.- 6 p.m.

The equestrian show hit the road back to the ancient times … battle scenes featuring the warriors of Europe’s biggest traditionalist event … Back to the Kurultaj age.

A three generation family performance “The Legend of the Golden Horse” is brought to life by Győr Ördöglovas Group coordinated by Szilárd Tóth and the Warriors of Kurultaj and the National Cavalry Unit. The internationally acclaimed company promises a spectacular show with scenic elements.

Also among the participants will be Lajos Kassai, a prominent figure in modern horseback archery, and his team. If it wasn’t for him, who is a Merit of the Hungarian Republic-winner, probably there would be no horse archer teaching program at the University of Physical Education that is actually the very first institution in the world to accept this education practice.

As special guests, the Ossetian Jigit Show’s … Riders of the Storm … will also take part of the performance, including 100 horsemen, 70 horses, horse archers.

The legend in nutshell: The Legend of the Golden Horse tells a story from the time of the Hungarian conquest. According to the narrative, chieftain Rajan is preparing to bid farewell to the throne and aims to give the command over to someone worthy of being a leader. He wants the tribes of his empire to live in peace after his retirement. But which of his three sons should be his descendant? The chieftain summons candidates to prove their aptitude in 3 trials related to weapon usage in a fight against the best valiants. As a reward, the one who rises to the challenge will be the descendant and deserve the hand of the empire’s most beautiful girl, Mildana, as well as the chieftain’s Golden Horse.

The monumental horse theater attraction merges 21st century show elements with the millennial values of eastern equestrian traditions. Fast horses, a cloud of arrows, battle scenes, falcons and fire rain, all in one.

This show will surely attract not only the Hungarians but also tourist spending their holiday time in  the Capital and for those foreigners elsewhere staying, working, in Hungary.

Get ready to a truly spectacular evening!

Audience will be able to see horseback archery and horseback combat demonstration at this historical show.

‘Sunlegend’ spectacularly features the perfect harmony of Nikola Parov’s music and Gábor Mihályi’s choreography. The show meets the requirements of the 21st century audience, being a unique and powerful combination of the ancient motives, the dynamic quality of traditional movements, mysticism and music in a fresh, modern tone. The production is firmly set in the 21st Century, and conveys a disconcerting glimpse of the future through archaic ethnic images.

It is a tale of the Sun and its various phases (day, night, eclipse, full moon) mirrored in human life and Hungarian history.

Sunlegend is a two-part performance with 17 smaller scenes, therefore it is suitable for presentation in excerpts as well. Forty dancers and two singers, computer-controlled lighting and special effects provide the audience with an unforgettable dance and music experience.

Sunlegend is a breathtaking show inspired by folklore, yet with a powerful modern message. Its fresh and dynamic conception includes the rhythmic movements of traditional Eastern European dance and new choreographic ideas alike.

The choreographer Gábor Mihályi was chosen “The Best Author of the Year” by the Association of Hungarian Dancers for making Sunlegend.

Tutenkamon’s Glitering Gold & the Mummies Society waiting for visitors @ Budapest 2019.

Tutankhamun’s mystery and the treasures of the Golden Pharaoh @  COMPLEX Event Center

District, VI., 26. Király Street – Budapest

The exhibition will be open for the public  from November, 8.  2019. – ends on March, 1. 2020.

On Thursday, November, 8., the exhibition opened  for invited visitors to get the feeling of what the Egyptian archaeologist Howard Carter – the explorer felt 98 years ago when he entered Tutankhamun’s tomb having first sight with his flickering candlelight at these breathtaking items.  Howard Carter searched obsessively  and found the tomb in 1922. Tutankhamun’s tomb that was much smaller than the rest of the Pharaoh’s tombs in the Valley of the Kings. It was probably not originally built for the young Pharaoh, who died at the age of 18 or 19, but for another senior person close to the courtyard. The building consists of a single corridor, a foreground, an ornate tomb with two side chambers. The exhibition is perfectly named as the “king of exhibitions”  which holds the experience of what archaeologists felt as entering into the tomb of what was unexpected.

On this special occasion along the  invited guests the archaeologist Zahi Hawass was present who recently with his research team also uncovered a tomb, which is very similar to the entrance of Pharaoh Tutankhamun discovered in 1922 in Luxor’s famous tomb entrance.

Probably not on my own by saying, the life-size authentic reconstruction of over a thousand artefacts and the scenery which is beyond the unexpected experience of the ancient time with over a thousand replicas of the mysterious world of Egypt and scenery giving a vision of what was prepared for this young Pharaoh at the age 18 or 19 afterlife. Tunenkhamun became famous because his resting place was not found by the grave robbers, so the Pharaoh’s mummy and the treasures buried with him remained for posterity.

Going through the corridors at the exhibition, there is a lot of written information about the ancient era, objects closed in time capsule, veiwing breathtaking treasures and naturally about the youngest Pharaoh of Egypt.

Locals and foreigners staying, working in Hungary  also tourist from around the world may have a peck into this awesome exhibition brought to Budapest by the JVS Group.  The JVS Group,  already presented previously:  the Titanic, the BODY, the Inca Gold and the Mummies of the World and this is their 5th exhibition held at the same place at the Komplex Event Center- Budapest.

Placing a fullstop here … There’s a lot to tell, but then what’s left for visitors to discover!
