The Boys Are Back In Town – MAN DOKI SOULMATES Budapest

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Upon their 30 years of existence, the supergroup he leads… the MAN Doki Soulmates, is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a concert in Budapest.

The boys are back in town with musician-producer Leslie Mandoki’s band, and visited Mandoki’s Soulmates. The main rehearsal toom place at Bem quayside Club on Thursday, August 17, 2023.  On Friday, 18. August Mandoki Soulmates will give a free jubilee concert with world stars, including Grammy Award-winning guitarist Al Di Meola, American jazz guitarist Mike Stern, bassist Richard Bona and jazz trumpeter John Helliwell (one of my favorites from Supertramp) at the Basilica on the Szentáromság square – Budapest. The concert starts at 7 p.m. and to grab your seats early cause the seats are limited.

After a small band rehearsal, musician-producer Leslie Mandoki introduced the artists joining the band at the Mandoki Soulmates press conference on Thursday evening. In addition to the international stars, he also introduced domestic performers Caramelt and Misi Mező, with whom they will also perform at the concert on August 18.

Even before his defection from Hungary in 1975, he played music on this stage with such fame as the giant flute artist Ádám Török+.

After jamming, a short press conference was held. He said that they started this year’s tour with their American and English friends, and they wanted to come to Budapest at first before the tour to Europe. He introduced the Budapest soulmates team. This year, the biggest American-English soulmates group will take the stage. He also talked about how Al Di Meola gave the name of the super group, he and the Grammy-winning guitarist know each other preety well, and have formed a lifelong friendship. He emphasized that this is not a retro group, different musical styles come together… Hungarian folk music, fusion jazz, funky, soul, rhythm&blues.

He said they wrote a “Peace Song” which maybe doesn’t fit in the mood of the whole world at all… BUT still… as he said: Q.:” We are the grandchildren of the Woodstock generation and felt that we now owe it to the audience to address the song which title is: Devil’s Encyclopedia .

Q.: “About the choosen venue this time. The Basilica played a major role in selecting the venue, we had to make sure that the audience had the best in every aspect, so that they could enjoy every moment of the four and a half hour concert.”

Mandoki spoke about how he fled Hungary,  he was a dissident in 1975. Beyond on the other side of the border,  he was asked where he was going, he said to America because he wanted to be a famous musician as his role models. Since then he has lived in Germany and America. He himself wrote the lyrics of the songs in English, because even though he loves the varied Hungarian language, it is easier to write in English.

Added: Q.: “What keeps this fantastic team of 35 people together is the community of values, the love of music and most of all the fact that we are SOULMATES … we live with the audience, this is what has kept the band together for 30 years”.

The soulmates musicians have won a total of more than 35 Grammy awards so far, and the number of audio carriers sold exceeds 350 million.

Temple of Arts latest documentary of Leonardo da Vinci.

elveszettleonardo_poster

The Lost Leonardo can be seen in the Hungarian cinemas from June, 29, 2023.

Robb Report’s crime-thriller film is about the vomiting of Leonardo da Vinci’s painting Salvator Mundi, which was believed to be lost forever. Around 1500, when the painting was created, Leonardo was almost 50 years old. He is the world’s most famous visual artist. There is an assumption that it could have been made for an outstanding art patron. He worked with first-class ingredients; and surface treated; which was rare. He began many pictures and left almost as many unfinished; but he finished that.

The fate of the tableau remained unclear for a hundred years, until it appeared in the collection of the English ruler Charles I, who, when he died in debt, the Crown decided to sell a large part of his art collection in order to pay off his debts. He goes to a stonemason – in today’s terms an architect – John Stone, in exchange for his unpaid work. 9 years later, during the restoration of the monarchy, when II. Károly ascends the throne, the parliament passes a bill that reclaims for the Crown the assets that were given to the sons of the common people as compensation for the debt of Károly I. Thus, the painting II. It enters Károly’s collection, then passes to his younger brother, II. Jakabra. From him to Jakab’s lover, Catherine Sedley, with whom he also has an illegitimate son. Catherine marries the first Duke of Buckingham, the builder of Buckingham House. The palace is sold by the heirs, it is known today as Buckingham Palace. In 1763, when the palace was purchased for the Crown, the furnishings were auctioned off. Then it disappears from our sight for hundreds of years.

We don’t know anything about it. Leonardo was sold as a painting, but for an insignificant sum. Therefore, we assume that they could have been heavily overpainted by this time! In 1763, we lose sight of it, until the XIX. until the end of the century, when it became the property of a famous English art collector, Francis Cook. But at that time it was already on the market as a Leonardo copy or a work made in the style of Leonardo. The topcoat layers are quite thick! It was reworked to make it more masculine because it probably suited the 19th century. century public taste. It remained a mediocre item in the Cook collection until 1958… when it changed hands at London’s Sotheby’s auction house for £45. We know he found an American buyer. It remains in the possession of American collectors until 2005, when it is auctioned again, for a similarly low price, because it is believed to be a Louisiana copy. In November 2017, Christie’s sold Leonardo da Vinci’s Salvator Mundi to a Saudi prince for a record $450,312,500. It is currently in long-term deposit at the Louvre in Abu Dhabi.

This is not just a portrait of Jesus Christ commissioned by a king! This tableau reflects Leonardo’s thinking about painting techniques and time, eternity, and the universe.

The lost Leonardo can be seen in Hungarian cinemas from June, 29, 2023.

Not intended for children under 12 years of age.

Saturday Night Live wasn’t a live broadcast … but indeed was Live Barrel Pig exclusive VIP beer night!

As the night slowly appeared, the guests arrived for an exclusive beer tasting to the new series of HopTop unique beers. It was held in the tasting room of the wonderful wine shop of WineHub. Were able to taste continuously  6+1  beers, but may also tasted 3 special IPA beers as to warm-up ourselves.  The premium beers selection were terrific: Surprise beer – Rudeboy – Sex on the barrel – Fear of the dark II. – Canadian Lover – Fear of the dark I. – Mental trainer.

Unfortunately, Ali Rawech Szami – owner of the HopTop brewery had to leave earlier. We, the audience heard interesting facts about the Barrel Pig beer from László Szilágyi – head of marketingÁdám  – brewing masters. Talked about the special flavors given from the wooden barrels.  During the ongoing tasting were initiated about the Barrel Pig project and overall made the audience spice up a bit with the features of the new series as introducing the 6 items for tasting. As it turned out, they had been at the brewery continuously tasting  from the start of the first barrel-aged beer and its flavors for a year.

Each of the HopTop beers are matured in a special barrel. The whiskey barrels bought from abroad gave the taste to these special new beers. Indeed … no wonder the resulted superb beers. For each batch, the Barrel Pig is aged from the aroma and flavor gained from the previous life of the wooden barrel.  There are rum, bourbon, whiskey and even maple syrup barrels. Within these the aromas extracted from different barrels that can be tasted the characteristics of dark chocolate combined with soft-creamy and vanilla notes.

What really dominates are Imperial Milk Stouts and Multigrain Barley casks. Imperial stouts with the unicorn pig barrel logo and a barley wine rested primarily in the Kentucky Bourbon barrels, maple syrup barrels and a Barbadian rum barrel. The beer called Sex on the Barrel kept various periods of time and bottled when deemed appropriate. There is no addition to the beers. The outwardly look shows something different by the color of the cap draining wax.  Stands as a crown making it truly special and elegant.   Mouthwatering were the sublime fruity and spicy flavors.  These HopTop beers really deserve to be served outstandingly and now reached their best form.

Going to another level and watching with high eyebrows  – shining eyes came to be really in the mood to the mental training taste. Indeed looked as all liked what tasted. Was told next we are tasting the Milk Imperial Stout (11.8%), which was aged for 1 year in a Kentucky Bourbon barrel to extract all the aromas from it. The end result was a real, creamy Mental Trainer! The reason why the “Milk” stand on some of the beer label is a reminder for those to know it is not lactose free!

At the Winehub which gave the platform to the exclusive beer tasting is an awesome wine shop which is usually operating as a bistro.

Entering their store sight catching venue welcome the visitors. The guests were perfectly cared and led to the tasting tables by  Péter Lakatos – experienced Sommelier with a demonstrated history of working in the wine and spirits industry.
