In his own home of the British Ambassador’s ResidenceAmbassador Paul Fox presented UNICEF’s latest charity initiative, thanks to which Hungarian children can now also receive personalized letter packages from the British’s favorite teddy bear, Paddington, Budapest, 26.04.2024. – Although not in London, but in Budapest, UNICEF Hungary’s latest charity campaign began with an unadulterated British tea party, in which the the world-famous Paddington teddy bears the main role, who sends new letters to the children every month, in which they can learn about exotic countries and even help their friends who have a difficult fate. From now on, there is reason for the little children to wait for the postman, who every month brings a package with their full name from the famous teddy bear. These children whose families join the organization’s regularly support community. The British Embassy, the British Council, Szente Vajk – the Hungarian voice of Paddington. Q.: “Paddington’s teddy bear heritage is deeply rooted in British culture, and for more than 65 years, he has been a role model of kindness and acceptance, and his adventures continue to inspire children around the world to this day,” said Paul Fox, British Ambassador to Hungary.

Paddington is optimistic, helpful, curious and sensitive to the world and, by the way, despite his Peruvian origin, he writes and speaks in beautiful British English language. The goal of UNICEF’s funnest campaign is Hungarian in addition to entertaining children – education, sensitization, presentation of other cultures and, of course giving assistance. The letter series provides a year-round family experience, during which 12 children and adults can get to know different countries (e.g. Indonesia, Cambodia, Jordan, Syria, Venezuela, Burkina Faso) together.

The little “world travelers” sends playful tasks, a travel diary, a world map, stickers, postcards and information cards in the packages, which are also excellent for language learning. The monthly fee for the Paddington adventure is also a regular donation, which amount is automatically received by UNICEF every month. With this predictable support, subscribers enable the organization to provide continuous assistance to the most vulnerable children on earth.

The tea party was pretty much as being in the UK along with bits of sandwiches, yummy sweeties that melt-in-your-mouth – scones with cream and jam. original jams from UK and Hungarian Tesco which provided them on the spot. The timing was between 4 to 5 p.m.

Just alittle reminder …The ceremonial taking of afternoon tea has been a British tradition for over 200 years. In a time when people only ate twice a day. Happend in the 7th century the hungry Duchess of Bedford requested “something” to munch” to counteract the ‘sinking feeling’ she felt during the late afternoon while waiting for dinner. Her request was met with an afternoon fortification comprising a pot of tea and a light snack taken privately in her boudoir. The afternoon afair in the 19th-century high-society were invited to Woburn Abbey, where tea was taken in the company of friends. Later, when the duchess returned to London, this practice continued as an invitation for “tea and a walking in the fields”.

Recommended to Hungarian readers … “If you would like to register for Paddington’s special adventures for your child, may do so here: http://www.unicef.hu/paddington – make your child’s day with receiving a gift package brought by the postman that stands their name.

William Shakespeare 460 Anniversary @ Budapest

Today celebrating DOUBLE GLOBE DAY!

William Shakespeare (April, 23. 1564 – 23 April, 23. 1616).

… Firstly, since 1970, Earth Day has been observed around the GLOBE as a day to raise environmental awareness.

… Secondly, today April, 22. Shakespeare and the Globe Theater are as two words reflecting to one-another!

On the occasion of the 460th anniversary of the playwright’s birth, a celebration was held in the special room of the Budapest’s Mariott Hotel which was just a couple of steps away from the Shakespeare statue outside the hotel. The celebration was organized by the Shakespeare Statue Friends Society: Judit Kurucz-Nagy, Kati Todás, dr. Monika Tóth. At the opening of the festive event, after a short introduction into the presenters, a theater gong sounded in style, and then Benji Horváth – actor – founder of the House of Young Dramatists, performed an excerpt from “The Storm” – Prospero’s monologue. Afterwards, flutist Judit Nagy and her student Bianka Urbán performed music from Shakespeare’s time. Then listen to XXX Sonnet by Zsóka Szabó – editor of M5channel Hungarian Television. Dance artist Dr. Monika Tóth took us back with her beautiful performance into the world of renaissance dances. We were able to relive Hamlet: Hecuba’s monologue performed by Lőrincs Tarján – Szkéné Theater actor. After a short break, Shakespeare’s era resumed, played by Károly Ambrus tárogató (The táragó is the Stradivarius of wind instruments. Its relative combines the characteristics of the saxophone, clarinet, oboe and bassoon). The performance of the students from the Eötvös József High School class 8/A played “Shakespeare’s quotes in Hungarian and English”  … well done. It was uplifting to listen to Győző Mihályi – Jászai award-winning artist reminisce about his stage roles in countless Shakespeare plays.
One of the highlights  the invited guest architect Judit Osskü’s commemoration of dr. Jozsef Finta, who  early past away this year.  Dr. József Finta, who initially looked and discussed at several round about, locations, finally desided the Mariott Hotel (formerly Hotel Intercontinental) have Shakeespeare statue outside at the hotel’s restaurant terrace. He also designed the set of memorial plaques on which the history of the statue can be read in Hungarian and English (unfortunately, the English decription is kinda messy as the weather has slightly damaged it, which is still waiting for the inscriptions to be republished in readable form). There are also the  names on the memorial wall connected to the Hungarian Shakespeare cult summary of famous literary translators, directors, theater directors, writers, writers, and actors.

The Shakespeare statue lives on as the world’s number one playwright who comes to his audience as an actor to offer himself with kind attention.

This work of art is a worthy memorial, which draws England, Australia and Hungary into a spiritual circle and pays tribute to the genius of William Shakespeare.

(About the history of the statue its creator, the sculptor Andor Mészáros (Budapest,1900, †Melbourne, 1972) who emigrated to Australia, created the Avon swan statue for the Australian city of Ballart in 1960. Retired Hungarian prosecutor Dr. Károly Nagy was visiting abroad in 1998 visit the venue, decided that it would be good to set up the valuable work of art at home! The artist’s son, the sculptor Michael Mészáros, undertook the creation of the negative of the original statue, after which donations had to be collected for the transport home and casting; the work was finally completed by the sculptor Gábor Mihály.)

In April, 23. 2003. the Budapest Shakespeare statue committee gave green light also for the memorial wall made according to the idea and plan of the epitaph Dr. Jozsef Finta,  the bronze statue of an actor bowing to his audience. This is a replica …. as said earlier …  in 1960 stands the original in the town of Ballarat, Vic. Australia.

In Hungary the cult of Shakespeare – the Avon swan really has an extremely large presence. In the theater season fourteen Shakespeare plays are performed in twenty theaters in Hungary.

At the end of the presentations a good looking and delicious Globe formation of carott cake was served. Thereafter, a group of performers stood outside as a sign of respect and layed wreat, the Australian Society of Friends also placed a wreath beside “The Actor’s” statue.

Last but not least … The statue looks to the other side of the River  Danube and, like the figure bowing as the actor,  gazing up on the Castle Theater, as if paying homage to the Hungarian Theater.

Tourist walking on the Pest side of the Capital along the banks of the River Danube worthwhile to stop for a minute … take a snap … have a thought or two of England’s national poet and the “Bard of Avon”

Happy 79th Birthday Eric Clapton!

Eric Clapton

🎸🎂🎶

Eric Clapton, the legendary English guitarist and singer, recently marked his 79th birthday.

His remarkable career has spanned decades, leaving an indelible impact on the world of music. Clapton’s soulful blues guitar a.k.a. “slowhand” playing and emotive vocals have resonated with fans across the globe.

Born on March 30, 1945, in Ripley, Surrey, England, Clapton’s musical journey began early. His talent and passion led him to become a pioneering figure in rock and blues. Over the years, he has collaborated with other iconic musicians, leaving an enduring legacy.

Whether it’s his timeless hits like “Layla,” “Tears in Heaven,” or his electrifying live performances, Eric Clapton continues to captivate audiences. His influence extends far beyond his native England, touching hearts everywhere.

Cannot forget to mention before calling Eric Clapton the blues big master on the road  in 1966 when he joined the Yardbirds group and enjoyed his first real hit, on which Clapton still play the song “For Your Love”. In April 1965, Clapton joined John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers. Then in 1966 came the unforgettable Cream Era, one of the first so-called supergroup, i.e. a band whose members already had a pretty deep musical background and were successful solo or band musicians. The other members were Jack Bruce on bass & vocals and Ginger Baker on drums. Silly “Q” who doesn’t know or have heard their classic songs … White Room … Crossroad Blues and the superb (favorite of mine) Badge.

The Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker the superb musicians are pushing rhythm-and-blues music together up above, may they R.I.P.

Even at the age of 79, he is not saying goodbye to the stage, nor has he lost his momentum. He is one of a kind … the most talented guitars and song written of the 20th Century. Eric Clapton enchanted  previously the audience in Budapest with his awesome music  such as … Layle … Tears in Heaven …  (Bob Marley’s)  I Shot the Seriff  and so on … cannot be missed at his concert, therefore the expectations of rock and blues fans are all the time fulfilled. Whereever Eric Clapton steps on stage sure his music fans fill the house.

Biographical Drama – The Life of Amy Winehouse – April, 11. Budapest Cinema.

Amy Winehouse

Below sharing Wikipedia free encyclopedia … “Back to Black is a 2024 biographical drama film based on the life of British singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse, played by Marisa Abela. Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and written by Matt Greenhalgh, the film also stars Jack O’ConnellEddie Marsan, and Lesley Manville.Following the death of Winehouse in 2011, several filmmakers attempted to create biopic projects but none of them progressed. In 2018, Winehouse’s estate announced they had signed a deal for a film about her life and career. By July 2022, StudioCanal moved forward with production, and filming took place in London from January to April 2023. The film was released theatrically by StudioCanal in Australia on 11 April 2024, and was released in the United Kingdom on 12 April 2024.”

Amy Winehouse was undoubtedly one of the most important artists and singers of our time. Unfortunetaly, her life has been stolen away by her addictions.

She has sold more than 30 million records worldwide and is still listened to by 18 million people/ month almost 13 years after her death. The film is about the inspiration and inspiration of her second and final studio album, Back to Black, and strives to show the flesh-and-blood woman behind this glittering but tragic phenomenon.

About the casting … Must highlight Marisa Abela’s performance which is by far the strongest aspect of the film, and not just because she bears an eerie resemblance to the six-time Grammy Award-winning singer. The body language, manicures and distinctive facial mimicry are also right.  Yes thr makeup  artists also deserve credit – although the energy of the actress, radiating warmth and empathy, reflects Amy’s lovable, positive side. Marisa also sings on Back to Black, and not just anyhow!

The role and responsibility of Blake Fielder-Civil, Winehouse’s ex-husband and antagonist of the film, is a hotly discussed topic of debate regarding the singer’s tragic fate. He was the one  to introduce her to the world of hard drugs despite she had alreadyearlier  struggled with alcohol problems, bulimia, and emotional instability before they met. Blake may be antipathetic in the film. H was th one who inspired the album and Winehouse mentions his name several times in her lyrics. The film well portrays the relationship between two toxic, emotionally damaged and drug-addicted young people.

If you’re an Amy Winehouse fan and would like to watch the movie and listen to her songs, don’t miss it and spend 2 hours with Amy.

The viewer’s emotions are  absolutely worked by the film, that’s for sure!
