Metronóm Jazz Club Concert Series @ Pécs

The Metronóm Jazz Club, has been operating for 23 years, bringing the best jazz musicians to the Zsonay Quarter @ the City of Pécs. Same will be in the air this year as well.

(Pécs lies between the South Transdanubian region of rolling hills and lush forests of Hungary. The Mediterranean-style city was awarded European Capital of Culture title in 2010, and, in fact, that city has preserved this status even today. Of the city`s countless attractions, Zsolnay Cultural Quarter, declared to be a Hungaricum (a unique Hungarian product or attraction) in 2014.
Anyone can freely enter the park of the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter during the opening hours (from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.) and stay there freely. Public cameras help to preserve the integrity of the cultural district.)

Niki Vörös, Jr. Béla Szakcsi, Boggie and see below others! The club has become a quality brand that is trusted by jazz lovers and has developed a permanent fan base, but there are always new interested parties who are just getting to know the genre. During the monthly concert series in the Zsolnay Quarter, a different style of jazz will take place each time. We show you this season!

Áron Tálas TrioMarch, 8. 20.00, Zsolnay Quarter – E78 Concert Hall … The versatility of Áron Tálas, winner of the Junior Prima, Gramofon and Artisjus awards, and the best Hungarian keyboard player by the readers of jazzma.hu and jazz.hu, is well known. The band has created an individual sound world, in which folk music and classical music influences can be seen in action, in addition to the harmonic and rhythmic elements of jazz.

Károly Gáspár Trio feat. Zita Gerebenm –  April, 18 ., 8 p.m., Zsolnay Quarter … Pianist Károly Gáspár is one of the defining figures of the Hungarian jazz scene. With his trio, they perform both their own compositions and jazz standards. Their music is fresh and progressive, romantic and aestheticizing, but at the same time respects the traditions of mainstream jazz.

Szakcsi Jr. Renaissance May8., 8 p.m., Zsolnay Quarter … The formation plays modern jazz in a popular form while maintaining the harmonious world of demanding jazz. This is fusion music, which places great emphasis on dynamics. Their repertoire gives a taste of different eras of jazz, but romantic and modern themes of classical music also appear. The formation is based on the singing voice, which is not performed as a song, but as an instrument.

Vörös Niki New Project ( see photo)June 20., 8 p.m. Zsolnay Quarter … Niki Vörös’ own compositions combine elements of blues, rock and jazz. The songs are defined by Niki’s strong, passionate performance expressing raw emotions, complemented by the energetic, unique playing style of prominent Hungarian musicians.

Blonde Niki Quintet July 18 _ 21.00, Zsolnay Quarter … Nikoletta Szőke, winner of the Montreux competition and winner of the Junior Prima Prize, is one of the country’s most popular jazz performers. In addition to domestic concert halls and festivals, he performed with great success in New York, Tokyo, Brussels, Copenhagen, London and Berlin, singing with Michel Legrand, Bobby McFerrin, Kurt Elling and Gregory Hutchinson, among others.

Boggie-Stay More Tour –  August, 15. 9 p.m., Zsolnay Quarter … Boggie Csemer Boglárka is a Phonogram and Hangvilla prize-winning performer. Ten years ago, he toured the world with his song Parfüm and the brilliant video clip created for it. He represented our country at the 60th Eurovision Song Contest, but he also performed as a backing band for ZAZ.

Balázs Bágyi Visegrád Jazz Band –  September, 12. , 8 p.m., Zsolnay Quarter … The project band was created thanks to a V4 tender, and its members are outstanding artists from each country.

SubtonesOctober, 17. , 8 p.m., Zsolnay Quarter … Founded by trumpeter Gábor Subicz, Subtones is one of Hungary’s most exciting supergroups, which has become a favorite concert band on the domestic jazz-pop scene.

Dés András Mash Trio November, 14., 8 p.m., Zsolnay Quarter … The formation was born from the joyous music of Iranian guitarist Mahan Mirarab and Hungarian percussionist András Dés, for whom the addition of Austrian clarinet player Vincent Pongrácz opened up a new perspective.

Dániel Hofecker – Next day sextet –  December, 5 , 8 p.m., Zsolnay Quarter … Dániel Hofecker from Pécs is one of the most talented jazz composers, arrangers and trumpet players of the young generation of musicians.

HUNGEXPO – 37 TRAVEL EXHIBITION IN BUDAPEST – DOMESTIC CITY OF PÉCS AS THE GUEST OF HONOR

On Thursday, February, 27. 2014. at the HUNGEXPO opened its door to the 37 Travel Exhibition in Budapest. Approximately, 500 exhibitors showcasing  on a platform of  30.000 square-meters. Hungary’s most prestigious tourism event of the Year! The domestic city as the guest of honor was chosen from cities in competition by the received materials. Upon  reviewing the candidates,  the finalist as the guest of honor of this year’s Travel Exhibition the city of Pécs was nominated. It may be visited at the 311-booth for those interested to learn more about the city of a handful of offers. Zsolt Páva, mayor of Pécs on Thursday greeted the visitors on the spot arriving to the opening ceremony saying the following:Quote: „Pécs is proud to be the guest of honor at this year’s Travel Exhibition. Pécs earned its title with so many attractions to be visited. Pécs was the European Capital of Culture in 2010., and since then many changes, developments were carried out in the city.This process has not stopped, in 2014 a large-scale developments are taking place in Pécs. As an example, the Cathedral renewal, a look-out for the recovery of the fourth tower, the Museum of Csontváry on reconstruction, modernization of the zoo, and the recently re-opened underground wells citations Mining Museum”.  István Márta, Managing Director, Zsolnay Heritage Management Ltd., saying it is worthwhile to visit Pécs packed with so many sites to see and was glad to say, more guests spend the time even staying an overnight, because thanks to the cultural development of the city, offers many attractions for all age of visitors.  Also talked about the city not only  being a city of cultural heritage, but also having a number of  technological innovations  to offer.
