The National Museum pays tribute to André Kertész with three special exhibitions.

March, 23. and September, 22. 2024.

The Hungarian National Museum will be organizing a series of exhibitions on the occasion of the 130th anniversary of the birth of the world-famous photographer André Kertész. At the exhibitions a selection of Kertész pictures bought in New York in 2021. These present never-before-seen pictures at 3 locations: @ Esztergom’s – Balassa Museum, @ Hungarian National Museum – Budapest and @ Robert Capa Center – Budapest.

After his emigration to Paris in 1925, André Kertész returned home several times, opened several exhibitions. A memorial museum bearing his name was created in Szigetbecs from the photographs he gave in Hungary shortly before his death.

This time, the focus of the National Museum’s exhibition series is not the reminiscing artist, but a young man born in Budapest on July 2, 1894, who was still searching for his way for a long time. He spent his childhood in Teleki tér and then Népszínház utca (both streets located in district VIII. Budapest) and also spent a lot of time with his relatives in Szigetbec and Tiszaszalka. and as a soldier he could visit almost every corner of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. Loves and passions, danger to life, and the boredom of being a clerk were all part of the class. He moved to Paris at the age of 31, but he did not come with an empty bag. Our series explores the background of this launch and presents it to visitors for the first time.
In 2021, the sales contract for “André Kertész’s photo collection” covered a total of 1,163 pictures, the majority of which were taken before 1925. These are: 943 contact copies, 59 larger vintages, 151 Polaroid photos, 9 personal photos and a collage. After the purchase, was carried out a condition assessment of the photographs at the National Museum. The museologist of the Historical Photo Gallery, historian Éva Fisli, dealt with the registration of the photographs. In the last decade, she was able to research several times in the Kertész archive in France, and the documents she got to know there helped her clarify inaccuracies related to Kertész’s youth. She undertook latter as the curator of the exhibition series that will be shortly to start.

PAX Television – operating since December 2001, as the first and only television station in Hungary  in favor of the protection of all life.

Friday, February, 2. 2024. Live PAX-TV for LIFE! Conference.

On the occasion of the PAX-TV conference speakers were: Prof. Dr. Emőke Bagdy, clinical psychologist and Edwin Caruana, president of the Evangelical Alliance of Malta, pastor of the first Lutheran community in Malta, Lilla Gere, CEO of PAX TV. Zsuzsánna Albert Görgey, president of the Hungarians in Europe Association and founder of the Walk for Life movement, József Gere, one of the owners of PAX TV, Zsuzsanna Bergs, vice-president of the Cry for Life Association, Márta Popovicsné Palojtay – head of the Family and Life Association Transcarpathia, Zsuzsa Máthé, director of Szent István Institute, Ilona Keresztes, vice-president of the Together for Life Association, Ádám Balogh, pastor of Naphegy congregation.

Over the past thirty years, the number of abortions in Hungary has been gradually decreasing, as the number of 90000 registered in 1990 has decreased significantly. Still, even according to preliminary data for 2023, more than 19,000 fetuses have not received, was not given the opportunity of life.

Decisions in favour of abortion can also be influenced by the coercive force of the woman’s life situation and environment. However, experience shows that the vast majority of marriages break down after abortion, and suicides can increase sixfold among those who abort their fetuses. A male-female relationship has at least three elements: passion, intimacy and commitment, of which have to work for  the two of them.

The focus of the professional event was on the miracle of life from conception to death. In addition to abortion, speakers at the event also touched on taboo topics such as addiction, which affects almost 4% of the population. This includes active euthanasia, the support of which has increased significantly in Hungary over the past 10 years. Violence, wars and knowledge about climate change that affect our sense of personal security and belief in the future multiply the anti-life decisions.

The right to respect the life of another person has been the subject of heated debates in recent decades. Although euthanasia is increasingly supported by Hungarians in line with international trends, the decision about the end of life is not a simple matter to be decided. In addition to reasons of conscience and faith, allowing the right to active euthanasia can become an obligation and an expectation for doctors, it can weaken the cohesion of society, and it can also generate new problems, which was also a topic for the conference speakers.

Between 1956 and 2022, there were 6.49 million unborn births in Hungary. The events of ’56 also contributed greatly to this issue.

At the end of the press event, the symbolic signing of PAX TV’s mission statement also took place.

Celebrating 20th anniversary of Lead Zeppelin – A38 Ship – River Danube.

lead_zeppelin

January 19, 2024, – 7 p.m.

Most probably ain’t necessary to introduce the work of either Led Zeppelin or their domestic successor, Lead Zeppelin, who has reigned for two decades to anyone who has a love for classic rock music. The latter band is also celebrating its anniversary on January 19. On this occasion on the River Danube flowting A38 ship will be surely filled with magical bluesy, folk, timeless music.

The group of friends, recruited for Jimmy Page’s 60th birthday, was brought together in 2003 by the love of Zeppelin’s music. That gathering hit the bell so they decided to continue interpreting the essence of Led Zeppelin to the domestic audience. After a few years, the final line-up was formed, which has remained unchanged since 2017, but in the recent years, many well-known performers, including Joe Rudán, Egon Póka, Zsolt Horváth, Hirleman Bertalan, Ádám Pettik, or even Mark Clarke, have been guests at their concerts with great success. Lead Zeppelin, as the best-known domestic tribute to the band, clearly strives to reproduce as authentically as possible the special atmosphere that Robert Plant conjured up on stage at the time. Fortunately, this concept also includes mixing some works together in creating something unknown and familiar in addition to the great classics. This kind of tingle definitely will not be only at this evening either, musical surprises and ferocious improve can be expected on the occasion of the celebration. The setlist will also feature rarely played compositions such as Achilles Last Stand, and of course the anniversary company will not be missed by the surprise guests.

In addition to the celebrated one, The Whu team will also take the stage, i.e. the only ‘The Who’ tribute band in the Eastern European area. The formation is made up of musicians active in other bands as well, who regard as a kind of love project the evergreen rock heritage of Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey, which has also been used a lot as film scores.

The Pencarrow Sauvignon Blanc 2021 – White – Dry – Alc.12.5%.  The label pays tribute to the famous Pencarrow Lighthouse on the Palliser Coast. The grapes are 70% from older stock in Clouston vineyards and the remainder from Pencarrow in Martinboroug. Tasting Notes: Characteristic Martinborough numerous tropical fruit, also discover Golgotha fruit, Granny Smith apples, blackcurrants, and even white-fleshed nectarines, dried herb complexity in the foreground. TEN ROCKS Sauvignon Blanc 2022 ,  White – Dry – Alc.12.5%.  – Vegan friendly! Mt. Vernon is located in the Wither Hills, close to Lawson’s Dry Hills Winery. No wonder after being named after one of the most famous landmarks. The 2022 vintage was harvested early, resulting in highly aromatic, balanced wines. The Ten Rocks is produced from a selection of vineyards throughout Marlborough whereas the warm days and cool nights give vibrant fruit flavors and crisp acidity. This Sauvignon Blanc perfectly shows why the whole world is rooting for Marlborough’s classic styl. Food Match: lighter seafood dishes such as grilled shrimp and scallops, artichoke dip or roasted veggies, chicken or pork chops, lemon tarts and crumbles.

TEN ROCKS – Malborough Sauvignon Blanc 2021 – White – Dry – Alc. 12.5%  This fantastic raw material came from selected areas of Marlborough vineyards, which perfectly demonstrates the region’s geographical diversity and varied flavor profiles. After careful pressing, the must was fermented in a tank at a cool temperature to preserve all its natural aromas and flavors. After fine pressing, the grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks with selected yeast, while a small amount was fermented with wild yeast in French barrique barrels. Tasting Notes: citruses and grass are mixed with passion fruit, and then it continues in the mouth, this very characteristic taste, with lively, fruity flavors, refreshing, fresh acids and a pleasantly crisp, but still long finish. Dispite the tinge color sky in the Autumn sunset at Balatonalmádi welcomed visitors to the 2nd Balaton Wine Tasting Walking event. The goal to the event was to realize with the support of the Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture program, and mainly to promote the cultured wine consumption and sustainable wine making within the Balaton Wine Region. Once again from the around Lake Balaton winemarkers and interested visitors came exchange thoughts from different regions and to enjoy the “BalatonBor” “BalatonWine” tasting and master class presentations. Also a great opportunity that during the off-season, wine lovers and wine producers, as well as domestic and international representatives of the profession, were able to  personally meet eachother.

The event took place in the Pannónia Cultural Center at Balatonalmádi whereas 25 wineries attended and we could taste their beloved latest and unique wine products. The event was attended by more than two hundred professionals and interested folks.

Exhibited wines to taste by wineries were the following: Androsics Estate – Barcza Winery – Bezerics Vineyard – Dobosi Estate – Dörgicsélő – Garamvári Vineyard – Istvándy Winery-Badacsony – Balázs Káli – Károly Kolonics – Laposa Badacsony – Lázár Cellar – Mórocz Winery – Nagy & Nagy Winery – Nivegy-Völgyi Borgazdaság Ltd. – Yári Pince – Petrányi Cellar – Rádpuszta Vineyard – Tagyon 730 Bormanufaktúra Vineyard – Taverna Winery – Tornai Winery – Villa Gyetvai Winery

The wine tasting was opened both by Zsófia Bozzai editor-in-chief of Bor and Wine (Wine and Market) who greeted the pretty high number of the wine-loving audience and invited them to go for tasting all the six wine regions with their wines for presentationon the spot.  Then enumerated the exhibited wineries: Androsics Estate – Barcza Winery – Bezerics Vineyard – Dobosi Estate – Dörgicsélő – Garamvári Vineyard – Istvándy Winery-Badacsony – Balázs Káli – Károly Kolonics – Laposa Badacsony – Lázár Cellar – Mórocz Winery – Nagy & Nagy Winery – Nivegy-Völgyi Borgazdaság Ltd. – Yári Pince – Petrányi Cellar – Rádpuszta Vineyard – Tagyon 730 Bormanufaktúra Vineyard – Taverna Winery – Tornai Winery – Villa Gyetvai Winery

Therafter Tamás Tornai owner of Tornai Winery at Somlójenő President of the Balaton Wine Region took the floor. He said that it will not be easy to stand out from the current oversupply on the wine market. It requires unique, special things, such as Juhfark in Somló. The place and the breed are now connected in the minds of many people, and it has therefore become special. This specialty, the “Juhfark” wine produced there, stands above the huge competition resulting from oversupply. He stated that the Balaton wine region is a great treasure and it’s time to build a wine brand to stand out from the crowd. Of course, nothing is free… you need care, internal professional dedication, continuous improvement of wine quality by utilizing the qualities of the variety, continued to note that in recent decades,  has had continuously won gold medals and awards for the best of the world’s largest wine competitions. At the wine serving table, the Tornai Top Selection wines were are/were to be tasted. A bunch of folks surely as was advised  by the representative of the Tornai winery tasted them. At a previous  visit to the Tornai winery and museum gathering already had a sip of my favorit the late-filtered “Aranykönny – Zeus” which was a trigger to fall in love in a minute with its ripened rich sunshine grape flavor. Nowonder the heavenly  flavor, it is hadsted in November the dwarf berries, which on the tuff-basalt soil have an attractive honey scent. The high sugar content well balances the nice acid structure, and this makes it really magical, therefore it’s was no surprise to me that the product is enchanted.  The Tornai wines participated in the world at numerous competitions, for instancethe London International Wine Challenge Tophy Award, for 4 times, which is a unique achievement in Hungary. Several European and American Michelin-starred restaurants offer Tornai wines Year-after-year are at the world’s most prestigious and longest-standing wine certification event, the Bordeaux Challenge International du Vin international wine competition. Also a regular participant of the Balatonfüred Wine Competition, which has been held for 30 years now.

Most probably needn’t have to introduce the already famous winemaker of the Istvándy Winery – Badacsony. At the wine tasting table had a glance on a bottle of wine without any sign nor label, it is this year’s new wine, no time to lbel it yet, but must admit without the label me simply called it now on the spot “No Name” … just thought for a second, those who taste it will say a word  as decribing the yummy taste really exciting superb rich in flavor. He liked my flip idea and  told, in wine not the greatness does not lie in volume, but in quality. He is convinced that creating something valuable and unique can only be done based on well-founded, in-depth expertise, with openness and creativity. They found the right raw material for this in the noble and special Kéknyelű. They want to discover the secrets of Kéknyelű, which will open up new horizons for the wine region.

The riport does not end here!
