Records and unforgettable stories below:

The 57th Kékszalag Raiffeisen Grand Prix officially ended with a ceremonial award ceremony held on Gyógy tér in Balatonfüred on Saturday evening. This year’s competition was made memorable by the records, the dramatic moments and the solidarity of the sailing community after Monday’s frighting … heavy storms. The live broadcast provided by Magyar Telekom was followed by more than 120 thousand viewers, and the field demonstrated an amazing sporting performance on Lake Balaton, even in challenging, strong winds.

The legendary celebration of Hungarian sailing, the 57th Kékszalag Raiffeisen Grand Prix, brought historic days. The field of 479 boats, which started at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning, had to withstand strong winds, sometimes exceeding 30 knots, for many for more than 10-15 hours. The good wind brought extraordinary speed and excitement. The victory was won by the MLS Raiffeisen Fifty-Fifty , helmed by Márton Józsa , which finished in an amazing time of 4 hours 24 minutes, improving its own previous record by more than 40 minutes. The speed of the race is indicated by the fact that the second-placed Sailing Team RSM (helmsman: Róbert Vándor ) and the third-placed Kürt-Team Kaáli (helmsman: Flóra Virág ) also completed the distance within the previous course record (5 hours 3 minutes).

Fantastic results in all boat classes … The 57th Kékszalag Raiffeisen Grand Prix proved that the magic of the competition lies in the diversity of the field. One of the biggest sensations of the day was the sailboat called Samurai Jack, which broke the record for monohulls with a time of 8 hours and 35 minutes. It is also curious that several monohulls were among the first 10 finishers, so it was not only catamarans that dominated the lead.

A separate trophy was awarded to recognize the epochal achievements of the classic boats. In the decades-long battle of prestige between the 75 cruisers , Lillafüred triumphed this year, with Olympic bronze medalist Detre Szabolcs steering the yacht, beating Sirocco by just two seconds at the finish line. With a time of 10 hours and 6 minutes, Lillafüred broke the classic record of 10 hours and 40 minutes set by the third-place 75 cruiser, Nemere II, in 1955, which was believed to be unbreakable. Moreover, Sirocco and Nemere II themselves were both faster than the historical record time.

Heroes, dramas and the power of the sailing community … The strong wind posed a serious challenge for the field. Several boats struggled with serious technical problems, and nearly fifty units, including big names such as thirteen-time winner Farkas Litkey, were forced to give up the fight.

The most dramatic story was that of the boat Sponsor Wanted . Both the Raffica and the René Raffica were damaged in Monday’s storm, the latter team consisting entirely of young people. The members of the two units joined forces and set off on the distance with a boat, the Sponsor Wanted, that they had made competitive in three days, and the Raffica mast. Although the mast, which was presumably damaged in the storm, ultimately could not withstand the load, the team earned the KPMG Fair Play Award for its unprecedented cooperation and sportsmanship .

“This exemplary collaboration and team spirit is worthy of the Fair Play award. The Sponsor Wanted team has proven that perseverance and collaboration can lead to victory even in the most difficult situations,” said Rezső Rózsai , CEO of KPMG Hungary.

The competition was full of memorable moments: 12-time Hungarian champion ice hockey player Krisztián Palkovics celebrated his 50th birthday by crossing the finish line, the “art boat” Queen Lucy (Jr. Ferenc Zenthe, Béla Szerednyey, Zoltán Barabás Kiss) finished second in its category, and 87-year-old Miklós Tuss , a three-time Blue Ribbon winner , became the oldest competitor this year and won first place in his category with his boat Hepp. The youngest participant in the competition was 8-year-old Márk Hermányi , who also won a silver medal in his category as a member of the Beach Body team.

The last boat, the Kaland , and its team, who arrived at the finish line after more than 29 hours of sailing, with champagne. This gesture also symbolized that the Blue Ribbon belongs to everyone who fulfilled the distance.

Successful mediation and technological background … The competition attracted huge interest, with well over 120,000 people following the television-quality live broadcast provided by Magyar Telekom. Viewers could also watch the broadcast, which was enriched with drone and motorboat footage and expert analysis, on the kekszalag.hu website, the Telekom Live YouTube channel, as well as on TV2 Play and Spíler 1 TV.

During the 57th Kékszalag Raiffeisen Grand Prix, the boat tracking system developed by Széchenyi István University and operated by Magyar Telekom functioned reliably and as intended, providing real-time data to both fans and competitors.

“The GPS-based technology provided accurate and real-time data to the organizers, competitors and spectators alike. The system stably supported digital tracking and live streaming throughout the competition,” said István Drotár , a representative of Széchenyi István University.

The Blue Ribbon Festival continued on Friday with the Audi Speed Challenge , where the fastest boats competed on an 800-meter course in front of the Balatonfüred pier. The competition was also won by the MLS Raiffeisen Fifty-Fifty team.

“The jewel of the Balaton sailing races, the Kékszalag Raiffeisen Grand Prix, is an event that not only the teams, the sport and the sponsors, but also an entire country look forward to with pride every year. At the same time, its speciality is the application of innovation, technology and digital development, which it offers more and more every year. This year, we saw more of the values that are important to us, as the race record was broken, the teams showed extraordinary solidarity after the storm and the race in general was characterized by sportsmanship. Raiffeisen Bank supports this and is proud to stand by the race for the seventh time, as tradition, teamwork, innovation and a sustainable, active domestic presence are behind our results,” said György Zolnai, CEO of Raiffeisen Bank.

“This year’s Blue Ribbon was made even more memorable by a storm that damaged several boats in the days before the race, but the strong winds ultimately resulted in a fantastically exciting race. This race showed all the beauty of sailing: how serious a sporting performance is needed for success, and how strong the cohesion is in the sailing community. It was a joy to see that in addition to the absolute record, the monohull and classic records were also broken, proving the unparalleled strength and diversity of the field. Congratulations to all participants: the winners, the record holders, and those who fought the elements at the end of the field for more than a day. A huge thank you goes to the organizers, chief organizer András Holczhauser, race director Tibor Verebély and the nearly 150-person team who participated in the professional organization, as well as our supporters, without whom this wonderful celebration would not be possible.” – summed up the event Prof. Dr. László Gellér , president of the Hungarian Sailing Association.

The 57th Blue Ribbon Raiffeisen Grand Prix has come to an end, but its legend lives on in the records, stories and in all those who were part of Lake Balaton’s biggest sailing celebration on the water or on the shore.

Raiffeisen Bank is the title sponsor of the competition for the 7th year .

Historical Records and Drama on the Stormy Windy 1st Day @ 57th Kékszalag Raiffeisen Grand Prix.

Overall the First Day … The opening of the 57th Kékszalag Raiffeisen Grand Prix on Thursday brought a historic day: in challenging winds, sometimes exceeding 30 knots, not only was the absolute time record of the legendary lake-going race broken, but the entire podium field finished within the previous record. The victory was achieved for the sixth time on the MLS Raiffeisen Fifty-Fifty catamaran, steered by Márton Józsa, with an amazing time of 4 hours and 24 minutes. In the dramatic fight, the record for monohulls also became a thing of the past, while a significant part of the field is still fighting the elements on the water. The competition does not stop, the fight is in full swing.

This year’s Blue Ribbon will be remembered for its extraordinary circumstances. After the 9 a.m. start, the two most promising catamarans, the MLS Raiffeisen Fifty-Fifty and the RSM, immediately took the lead. In gusty winds exceeding thirty knots, they raced at tremendous speed towards Balatonkenese, where the Fifty-Fifty was the first to take its buoy. The Hungarian-designed and built two-masted catamaran finally won the start-finish, passing all course marks first, and crossed the finish line in Balatonfüred in 4 hours and 24 minutes, improving its own record set in 2023 by more than 40 minutes.

Márton Józsa, the helmsman of the MLS Raiffeisen Fifty-Fifty, set a new time record with a safety-oriented approach to the 57th Blue Ribbon. According to him, the boat still has reserves, and the current time result can be improved even in less stormy conditions.

The fantastic speed and excitement of the race is proven by the fact that both the second and third place finishers completed the distance within the previous record of 5 hours and 3 minutes. Sailing Team RSM came in second, just 9 minutes behind (4 hours and 33 minutes), steered by Róbert Vándor.

The third step of the podium was taken by Kürt-Team Kaáli, steered by Flóra Virág, with a time of 4 hours and 46 minutes, proving that the most professional teams are capable of outstanding performance even in the toughest conditions.

New high for singles too! The other big sensation of the day was the Yardstick Open sailing yacht Samurai Jack. The boat completed the Blue Ribbon in 8 hours and 40 minutes, breaking the 8 hours and 59 minutes monohull record set by Principessa in 2023.

Where there is victory, there is drama! However, the extraordinary wind posed serious challenges for a significant part of the field. Several catamarans capsized in the first hours of the race, and throughout the day there were continuous reports of technical problems, mast and sail breakages.

By Thursday evening, nearly fifty boats had given up the fight. Even big names such as the thirteen-time winner Litkey Farkas (Process Solutions) and his team, or Audax Django led by Zoltán Petrányi, were forced to give up the race. The story of the boat Sponsi was particularly dramatic. The members of the teams of Raffica and René Raffica, which were damaged in Monday’s storm, teamed up and set off on a boat that had been made competitive in three days, with the damaged mast of the Raffica. However, the mast could not withstand the load in the Balatonkenese Bay and broke, so their heroic struggle ended.

The Blue Ribbon is still going strong! While the top team is taking a well-deserved break, the majority of the Blue Ribbon field – more than 400 boats at the time of publication – is still on the water, continuing to fight to complete the Balaton roundabout course. There is huge competition among the classic boats and in the various boat classes. The events continue day and night, and the official Blue Ribbon time limit is 48 hours, meaning it can be completed until 9 a.m. on Saturday.

The competition is also being broadcast continuously, with a continuous live video broadcast provided by Magyar Telekom and minute-by-minute coverage updated day and night on kekszalag.hu . Another useful source of information is the GPS tracking , developed and operated by the Széchényi István University team in Győr, which allows the current position, speed and route of each Blue Ribbon boat to be tracked in real time. The tracking is available on track.hunsail.hu.

Pleased to bring attention to the great fans of the former Pink Floyd – Roger Waters concert film.

The Prague performance of the legendary musician who became famous with Pink Floyd will be shown nationwide for ONE NIGHT ONLY! Bet it will bring joy to many!

Roger Waters, who can be presented as the creative driving force of Pink Floyd’s golden age, performed a similar show in the Czech capital as he did in Budapest by the end of April 2023. The concert series, which was described as the “first farewell tour” of the legendary musician’s life, can also provide a glorious spectacle on the big screen due to its cinematic visuals.

During the evening, 20 classics from Waters’ work were performed, some of them from within Pink Floyd and some from outside the band. In addition, a new composition was also debuted during the tour, which was titled “The Bar”. Among others, “Us & Them”, “Comfortably Numb”, “Wish You Were Here” and “Is This The Life We Really Want?” will also be performed. Waters was supported on stage by 9 of his fellow musicians to make the party as memorable as possible.

The one-time opportunity can also serve to those who missed the movie for some reason in Budapest, namely the “This Is Not a Drill” two years ago. It was already behind us in Prague, the recordings are from the end of May 2023.

Herald News … The old name Max is being reborn this summer … HBO Max.

As many may know, HBO Max streams must-see series, hit movies, exclusive originals, family favorites, live sports, and up-to-date breaking news.

Many’s favorite streaming service is returning to its HBO roots and will focus more on HBO’s own series and Warner Bros. blockbuster films.

Finally, on the 9th of July it happened worldwide, including in Hungary. The former max.com now redirects users to hbomax.com. On the upper left corner of HBO Max screen a minimal redesign had been made within a visible logo … simple is that.

As is known, in Hungary, the platform previously known as HBO GO changed its name in March 2021 and became HBO Max. Then in May 2024, another name change came, and Max remained. You would think: you can’t rebrand something so many times, especially back to its previous state, but Warner announced in May this year: the previous name will return, and the platform’s subscribers will be able to encounter the HBO Max brand again during the summertime.

The return of HBO Max makes the platform home to cult series such as Friends and The Walking Dead alongside prestigious entertainment brands: HBO, Warner Bros., Max Originals, DC, Harry Potter, A24 Films – while offering the most unique stories, premium drama series, films, and documentaries from around the world.

The rebranding reflects a broader strategic shift in the streaming market. While other services try to compete with quantity of content, HBO Max consciously emphasizes quality, responding to the fact that consumers are no longer looking for more content, but a really better content.

Herald News: 48 hours – 160-kilometer distance – 57th Blue Ribbon @ Balatonfüred – Lake Balaton.

Latest News concerning the despite the stormy weather that has damaged several boats, there will be no obstacles to the start of the Blue Ribbon. Although the field will start with fewer than expected, about five hundred sailboats, the race is not in danger, and according to the weather forecast, storm, calm, rain, mosquito clouds and pitch-black nights make the race difficult but surely the sailors will be able to compete ablaze with sailing fever.

The 57th Blue Ribbon Raiffeisen Grand Prix will start from Balatonfüred 9 a.m. Thursday 10th of July. During the Balaton circumnavigation sailing race, there will be programs for those interested on the shore for three days. The race will be broadcast live on the giant screen at the Sailing Square. According to the weather forecast, strong winds of cca 15-20 knots are expected on the day of the race, which could even result in another record time. In any case, the start promises to be spectacular. According to the current situation, more than 500 boats and a field of about 3,000 people will set off on the 160-kilometer distance. Several boats preparing for the Blue Ribbon sailing race were damaged in Monday’s storm, 130-kilometer gusts of wind were measured in Balatonfüred, tens of millions of forints of damage were caused, and several boats were damaged in the ports and on the shore. Two liberas, the Principessa and the Raffica, will definitely not be able to start in Thursday’s race, but the Lisa, also a monohull, was wrecked, and three catamarans also sustained serious damage, informed András Holczhauser, the general secretary of the race. This year, the competitors will compete in thirty boat classes and separate categories. The time limit for the race organized by the Hungarian Sailing Association, is 48 hours, meaning that the 150-kilometer distance must be completed by 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 12. After the start on Balatonfüred (Northern side Lake Balaton) the field passing through Balatonkenese, Siófok and the Tihany Strait, then turn around at Keszthely and return to Balatonfüred.

This time, several foreign units have started in Europe’s longest lake circumnavigation race, and a good number of the fastest boats and catamarans with the best chance of winning the final race are starting. It is characteristic that the boats competing for the Blue Ribbon award are improved year after year, becoming more modern, lighter and of course faster. There will be quite a few boats on the course, of which anyone can finish first, depending on the wind and tactics. In any case, there is agreement that with favorable winds, the distance can be completed in as little as 5 hours with modern catamarans.

The award ceremony will be on Saturday evening. In addition to the competitors, the Blue Ribbon Festival also offers entertainment programs on the shore.

Last but not least … if someone doesn’t have a clue …”Where does the Blue Ribbon name come from?”

Once upon a time, the fastest sailboat on the seas could wear a blue ribbon on its mast, and this tradition was later adopted by steamboats. With the spread of sailing, competitions developed on European lakes, the winner of which could tie a ribbon symbolizing the award for being the fastest to the top of the mast. In 1934, the Hungária Yacht Club, which first organized the competition, transferred this custom to Lake Balaton, and ever since, the boat that sails around Lake Balaton the fastest has won the Blue Ribbon. The name of the competition has become a concept over time. It is organized annually by the Hungarian Sailing Association under the name Blue Ribbon.

One more info … Those who cannot be present may watch the live broadcast on kekszalag.hu and on Telekom Live’s YouTube channel.

Interntional World Music Week @ Kobuci Kert (Kobuci Garden) 2025.

Trio Mandili – Georgian musical group

Óbuda (Old Buda) World Music Week is organized by Kobuci Kert (Koboci Garden) for the 7th year. Once again offers special opportunities for the world music scene and the contemporary Hungarian community and naturally welcomes foreigners staying in Budapest.

Between June 23-29, real musical delicacies will be staged: different styles, musical roots and performance methods, as the best of the genre present them today. A free garden cinema will open the series of events, followed by the African-Finnish Helsinki-Cotonou Ensemble and the three young and charming Georgian ladies, Trio Mandili, among others. The 30-year-old Kerekes Band and the world-class figure of the Hungarian jazz scene, 70-year-old Mihály Dresch, will celebrate their birthdays at Kobuci.

The world music event series will start with a free garden cinema on June 23 at 8 p.m., where a joint work by György Szomjas and Béla Halmos, the documentary “Still in the Heart”, will be screened. The portrait film commemorates János Zerkula, the great Gyimes Csángó gypsy prima, one of the last representatives of classical folk music. The blind musician played a violin equipped with a fifth (resonant) string, sang along, and was accompanied by his wife, Regina Fikó, on the tötőgardon. In addition to presenting the unique-sounding, archaic Gyimes music and dances, the suggestive film presents the scenic beauty of the Gyimes Valley and the living conditions of the people living there through Zerkula’s unique life story from a historical and ethnographic point of view.
The series of concerts will be launched on June 24 at 7 p.m. by the Helsinki-Cotonou Ensemble, an orchester consisting of Benin (an African country neighboring Ghana and Nigeria) and Finnish members. The musicians from the two countries, which are geographically and culturally distant, are seemingly unrelated, yet their collaboration produces pulsating, cheerful and danceable music. The band is a regular performer at the biggest festivals, be it the Montreal Jazz Festival, Sziget, or WOMEX.

On June 25th at 7 p.m., the Kerekes Band will celebrate its 30th anniversary at the Kobuci Garden. The band’s experimental quintet has been mixing the energies of distant styles since the beginning. Based on Hungarian folk music, they play psychedelic flute parts, sometimes softly blown, sometimes shrieking. It is no exaggeration to say that during the three decades they have performed on the stages of all the most important Hungarian festivals and concert venues, but they are also regularly invited abroad. Now, for example, they are coming to Óbuda (Old Buda) after concerts in Berlin and Rodosto. This year marks 16 years since the Kobuci dance house series started, where the best bands of the Carpathian Basin give each other a handshake every two weeks. Over the past decade and a half, thousands of people have danced to Moldavian and string music in the open air. One of the highlights of this series will be the performance of Fanfara Komplexa and Pál István Szalonna and Band.

On June 26. The next day at 7 p.m., another band specializing in crossing borders and breaking rules, Besh o droM, will take the stage. The band, which mixes Hungarian folk music with Balkan styles, has been entertaining the Hungarian audience on a world-class level for more than 25 years.

On June 28 at 7 p.m., Trio Mandili will perform, three young and charming Georgian ladies from a small, secluded Caucasian village. The girls gained incredible fame on the Internet, YouTube and Facebook, and became world stars in a few weeks. The “fairy tale” began on an ordinary day, when the three friends were walking in their village and started singing in a good mood. One of them recorded their song “Apareka” folk song, which has since become a world hit, with his phone, and then uploaded it to the Internet. The video dramatically changed the girls’ lives, as the song reached millions of views within two weeks. Trio Mandili is now touring all over the world, surrounded by immense love.

On June 29, Mihály Dresch, who is celebrating his 70th birthday, will arrive at the closing concert of the World Music Week with his String Quartet. The Kossuth Prize-winning artist is certainly a world-class representative of the Hungarian jazz scene, and an indispensable figure in the music history. His own special instrument, the “fuhun”, will be playing again on Sunday evening in the Garden. Another event on the closing day is the concert of Ági Szalóki, Bori Magyar and Szilvia Bognár, which was called into being by the common desire to once again.

Experience at the event the joy of singing Hungarian, Bulgarian, Greek, Spanish, Gypsy, Sephardic Jewish, Portuguese and Spanish melodies together.

“Summer in the City” … Open-air Exhibition

Experiences on the spot on the Billboard

June, 12. 2025. – Thursday 11a.m.

Várkert Bazaar Gloriett – District I., 2-4 Ybl Miklós Square – Budapest

A special open-air exhibition brings back to life the atmosphere of the big city summers of the early last century. Contemporary posters recall the urban effervescence of the period marked by the Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles in a joint exhibition by the Hungarian National Gallery and the Castle Captaincy. The world where electric lights competed with the stars, thus lengthening the days, comes to life again. Summer evenings were made unforgettable by parties, and days by beer gardens, airships and wave baths. Those looking for a break did not search for the programs on their smartphones, but were often informed by artistically designed public posters.

The exhibition can be viewed for free until the end of October 2025 leading to the Gloriette upwords on ramps.

Short note … the name Gloriette itself is usually used for representative garden buildings and pavilions. Here, the Gloriette is not a separate building, its pavilion is surrounded by stepped ramps running upwards on two sides, which lead to the garden. Of the two lions standing in front of the Gloriette, one embodies the fight, who, having driven away the horrors, looks after the hunted game. The other is the guardian of peace and tranquility, who attacks in case of danger. The original lions were destroyed during World War II, the statues that can be seen now were made in the 1960s. During the most recent reconstruction, the two grotesque-faced water basins visible at the front steps were restored, as well as the Neptune-headed well in the central niche of the Gloriette. On both sides of the Gloriette, can see a vase with a putto, and looking up, we can see the work of Adolf Huszár, female statues personifying the seasons.
