Billy Wilder – “The Apartment” – Centrál Theater @ Budapest

District VI., 18. Révay Street

A trip back to one of the classic from Hollywood … Billy Wilder’s film “The Apartment” and after the great success, Neil Simon wrote a stage version.

“The Apartment” movie staring Shirley MacLaine and Jack Lemmon are considered to be their greatest formation in the American history of films.

The theatrical version is out now on stage at the Centrál Theater in Budapest.

Director – Tamás Puskás, starring Kátya Tompos, András Stohl, Tibor Fehér and János Papp. The show also features Gabi Borbás, Lia Pokorny.  The theater play  has what it takes.

In the meantime, „The Apartment” stage production is in Hungarian language but for many will not cause hopefully problem knowing the story by heart and may concentrate at outstanding, marvelous Hungarian actors and actresses during the play. The ingredients are well cooked together having number one for a spicy stage performance, number two count love-wise and laugh-wise.

Over all the play in one-sentence … It’s about a young guy working in a large company, and tries to rise there by letting its executives use his apartment for trysts, but as time goes by filled with complications when the leaders ask him to hand over his apartment key for an hour or two and in exchange they will recommend him to fill a leadership job …  the rest is to find out at the Centrál Theater. Mind you the theater play has a little twist compared to the original film, worthwhile not to be missed.

Billy Wilder migrated from Germany to Hollywood and  beside other incredible movies in 1959 came out with “The Apartment”, which won 5 Academy Awards®, including Best Picture and Best Director. “The Apartment” was Billy Wilder’s last great film.
