Although CHESS – “in capital letters”  is a mind-numbing, popping out with brilliant moves, following crazy strategies, but need to have outrageous slices of luck!

Chess is known as an individual sport,  yet at the Baku Olympiad will be held within team players.

The federal captains  have had already appointed the five-strong frame in women and men chess players!

So in less than two weeks the Hungarian National Chess Players will be heading to the Olympiad Games – Baku. Regarding to the forthcoming event not an everyday press conference was held by the Hungarian Chess Federation at the  Abacus Business and Wellness Hotel – Herceghalom which actually resembled as a family get-together.

The Hungarian national chess team is experienced and has dynamic chess players. The chess player Zoltán Almási it will be participating at the 11th Chess Olympics. Richárd Rapport is in the top 20th place in the world ranking, and currently holds the 16th place and at Baku be the first tablet which will probably be on him a great psychological pressure and obviously a major challenge said  coach – Judit Polgar Men’s Team … Known as the Greatest female chess player of all time retired two years ago …  revealed she has been working hard the past year in developing the young, dynamic chess players. She expressed having much pleasure to spend a lot of time in the training camp and greatly strengthened the team in preparation period. The team’s youngest chess player Benjamin Gledura will be present at his first Olympiad Games.  Other members of the chess men’s national team is Csaba Balogh and Ferenc Berkes. Polgár also talked about her regret that  Péter Leko will not be a member of team this year. Had to accept the Grand Master‘s decision, but looking forward in participating in the future.

The women team coach – Gábor Papp also highlighted the importance in the advance preparation tasks and continued by saying, Q.: „Around the Globe there is no team most likely, that have had spent as much time, attending at six training camps before the Olympiad than we had.”As Papp also added they are attending with a well-established team and now standing at the 7th place on the leaderboard and although in the top ten the top five is very strong, he is still confident of obtaining a medal. Hoang Thanh Trang will be at the first table. Other chess players will be Anita Gara, Ticia Gara, Sidonia Vajda and Petra Papp at the Olympiad. Zoltán Rácz – Hungarian Chess Federation General Secretary  said all the conditions for preparations has been guaranteed, having given each players the confidence to sit down at the table with good conscience.”

Two years ago at Tromso – Norway the men’s team won the silver medal, while the women team closed in the 45th place.

Looking ahead and summing up … Even though Russia, China and the United States chess players are also very strong, but the big „if” at the last rounds all goes well, the Hungarians might even reach the medal place as well.
