Frida Kahlo and Her Photos Exhibition @ Budapest

66df2de7fec5538931894395_310_frida_MedRes

Frida Kahlo by Guillermo Kahlo – 1926 Diego Rivera & Frida Kahlo Archives

Frida Kahlo – Her Photos exhibition reveals the intimacy of the great Mexican artist and offers a new perspective on the turbulent life of one of the most mysterious and emblematic figures of Latin-American art. Since its first presentation, in Mexico City, in 2009, the exhibition has been touring around the world, reaching almost a million visitors in twenty different cities. The next destination is … First Time, Budapest, Hungary, where it will be presented at the Mai Manó House, from 18th October 2024 to 12th January 2025.

Despite the importance of photography to Frida, a major part of her collection of photographs was hidden away from the public for several decades. When she died, in 1954, her husband Diego Rivera donated their house – known as the Blue House, in Mexico City – to the Mexican people, so that they could turn it into a museum about Frida’s life and work. This was the beginning of what is nowadays the Frida Kahlo Museum, one of the most popular museums in the world.

Although Diego gave Frida’s artworks and objects to the museum, he asked to lock a part of them away from people’s curious eyes. That is the main reason why this personal archive, which included more than 6000 photographs, some drawings, letters, medicines and clothes, was closed for five long decades. A Blue House’s bathroom was the chosen place to save those treasures, and therefore gained an almost mythical aura.

It was only in 2003 that the numbed archive was opened. A selected part of the newly found photographs was transformed into this exhibition, curated by Pablo Ortiz Monasterio, a well-known Mexican photographer and historian of photography in Mexico. Frida Kahlo – Her Photos exhibition shows 241 unpublished photographs that represent diverse periods and people in Frida’s life and which were also objects of her personal affection.

The exhibition is thematically divided into six sections – The Origins; The Blue House; Politics, Revolutions and Diego; Her Broken Body; Frida’s Loves; and Photography. Besides the historical and artistic value of the presented photos, some of them are also valuable because they were taken by famous photographers who were friends with Frida, such as Man Ray, Martin Munkácsi, Edward Weston, Brassaï, Tina Modotti, Nickolas Muray, Pierre Verger and Lola and Manuel Álvarez Bravo. All the works included in the show and many more can be found in its catalogue, Frida Kahlo – Her Photos, which is the result of a meticulous selection of the thousands of photographs that were found in the closed bathroom.

Photography always played an important role in Frida’s life. Her grandfather and father were professional photographers and she herself was passionate about this art. During her lifetime, Frida gathered a significant collection of daguerreotypes and visiting cards from the 19th century, of photographs showing her family and friends, of powerful portraits of herself, as well as of some photographs upon which she intervened, cutting things off them, writing dedications and personalizing them as if they were paintings. For Frida, photography was a precious relic of the past, an object to be cherished and a powerful tool for creative work. The collection reflects the intimacy of the painter and her interests during her tormented life.

It was only with the discovery of Frida Kahlo’s photographic archive that it became evident that the origins of many of her charismatic works lie in photographic composition. Her self-portraits, for example, were highly inspired by the portraits her father took of himself. Pablo Ortiz Monasterio adds that the collection of photographs itself, the way it has been grouped and worked on, constructs a portrait of Frida. Consciously or not, through an immense diversity of photographs, carefully kept, cherished and intervened, the artist reveals the complex fragmentation of her own identity.

Celebrating World Smile Day 2024.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

World Smile Day is an annual celebration observed on the first Friday of October. In 2024 … Friday, October 4, was celebrated with representatives of the press and invited individuals, whereas an integrated presentation took place at the 3D Gallery in Budapest. This day dedicated to “Do an act of kindness. Help one person smile”! A smile often expresses a feeling, serves as encouragement to someone, or acts as a greeting.

A smile is not just an aesthetic issue: the health of the mouth and teeth cannot be neglected from the point of view of general well-being and self-confidence.

Basically the “Q” was asked by the audience … Why are Sonic toothbrushes so good? About the Sonic Toothbrush – How It Works and Why It is Essential?

“A” … The sonic waves massage the salivary glands, which increases saliva flow and assists with cleaning teeth. It gives the sonic electric toothbrush (Operational Noise <45dB) a lot of cleaning power and that iconic hum caused by its audible vibrations. Some sonic brushes can sync with an app to track your brushing behaviour and can affect the body.

“Clean and well-maintained teeth not only make us more attractive, but also direct they also affect our social relationships. A bright smile sends a positive message our environment”, emphasizes Eszter Ferenczi – Dental hygienist, Dental Rituals founder. She added, that maintaining a healthy smile is essential using correct oral care techniques. Modern technologies, such as sonic toothbrushes, open new horizons for in oral care. Traditional toothbrushes are less effective at removing plaque removal, especially in hard-to-reach areas. In contrast, the sonic technology performs up to 84,000 brush movements per minute, ensuring thorough cleaning.

János Koska – Representative of Oclean’s exclusive distributor in Hungary highlighted the importance of sonic technology. “The Oclean X Pro Digital model with high frequency vibrations create dynamic fluid movement, such as tooth spacing and  gum edges are also cleaned. This technology is revolutionizing teeth cleaning as the Conventional brushes often do not reach these areas. The Oclean mouth showers providing a stronger cleansing gentle way.”

The brush has app-pairing capabilities, which allow you to monitor your brushing scores (each time you use it, the brush rates your session) and also see how soon you might need to change the brush-head. The app also allows you to check in on family members, which makes it easier for parents to monitor kids’ brushing times and notice if there are any areas of their mouth that might need extra attention. The app can be overwhelming, with many options and tabs, but once you get the hang of it, it gives you a depth of analysis that can elevate your brushing.

Why can a sonic toothbrush be helpful?  “In Hungary, many people do not use the correct brushing technique or do not brush their teeth long enough and thoroughly, it is common act. The problem is that people do not pay enough attention to oral care. Carried on by saying “A lot of people just go to the dentist when it’s too late. Lack of prevention often leads to serious dental problems,” explains Eszter Ferenczi, dental hygienist.

Oclean toothbrushes have smart features that deliver real-time. They give feedback on brushing techniques and warn you if you miss an Area. This not only provides a more thorough cleaning, but also helps users also adhere to the recommended brushing time,” says János Koska.

“In order to improve the oral hygiene habits of the Hungarian population, some basic change is needed. It is important to brush your teeth twice a day and not forget avoid the use of dental floss,” advises Eszter Ferenczi. She also pointed out that avoid brushing teeth immediately after eating a meal, especially after eating acidic foods, to protect tooth enamel is not recommended to brush your teeth immediately.

The use of sonic toothbrushes makes daily oral care not only more effective, but also it also makes it more comfortable. Oclean X Pro Digital with long battery life has a feature that lasts up to 30 days, making it ideal for everyday use, especially handy when traveling. The device tracks eight different brushing zones, ensuring that no area is left out.  Recommended to brushed twice daily for 2 minutes in exclusive mode.

The future of oral care technology … Experts agree that regular use of sonic toothbrushes it not only results in cleaner, but also healthier teeth. “The sonic toothbrush Regular use improves gum health, reduces tartar and plaque and teeth may become whiter” said János Koska. He also added that tooth enamel is also less prone to damage due to sonic toothbrushes, it automatically adjusts pressure, protecting teeth. In addition, three new products is also available from Oclean in Hungary from October. “Q”… For who is the Oclean Ease ideal for? “A” … For those switching from a manual toothbrush to an electric one, a uniquely designed 2in1 has a dustproof lid that also serves as a travel case.  Oclean X Lite by Oclean is the entry-level model of the Smart Series (X Series) and is equipped with a smart display that monitors eight brushing zones and provides instant feedback on brushing. Noise reduction technology … Enjoy a soothing brushing sensation with the breakthrough ultra-quiet brushing experience*. Intelligent touch screen … 8 Instant display of wash areas and missed areas with Bulit-in 6-axis Gyroscope. The Oclean And AirPump™ is designed specifically for brace-wearers, but it’s a great and effective tool for all users. AirPump™ technology combines air and water in a spray that removes efficiently and gently food scraps from the teeth, thus improving oral hygiene.

World Smile Day is the perfect opportunity not only to smile, but also to celebrate your health. Sonic toothbrushes such as the Oclean X Pro Digital, not only technological innovations, but also more efficient and enjoyable in brushing yourn teeth, also provide an experience, contributing to the long-term preservation of our smile.

Results & Medals @ European Pentathlon Championship in Budapest 2024.

Throughout the week some updates … The mixed relay won the Hungarians’ fifth medal at the European Championships. Last Monday, Richárd Koleszár and Bereczki came second in the men’s relay, and third in the women’s relay with Noémi Guzi and Blanka Eszes.

In the mixed event, the Hungarian colors were represented by Rita Erdős and Mihály Koleszár, and both won the gold medal in the mixed doubles relay.

On Sunday morning, nine duos started the fight in the BOK Hall. In the ring fencing, the Hungarians finished in seventh place with 14 wins and 18 losses – Erdős finished with 5/11, Koleszár with 9/7 – and accumulated a thirty-point deficit against the leading Ukrainians and Czechs.

The horse riding took place in the middle of the afternoon in the sculpture park of the Puskás Aréna. After fencing, the ninth-placed Poles withdrew due to Natalia Dominiak’s knee pains, so the Hungarians started riding. Erdős’s horse broke out at barrier four, but the teasing came together for the second time, and then Koleszár pulled down barrier 7, adding a 14-second timeout, which resulted in 269 points out of the starting 300. Previously, during the warm-up, Erdős fell off her horse and was injured, but in the end she was able to undertake the continuation of the competition.

The home pair defeated the Finns and the Swiss on the pashto raised next to the horse track, and then lost to the Lithuanians, so with the two successes, they earned an extra four points in the bonus competition.

After that, the Hungarians completed the 2×100 meters with the best time, 1:58.56 minutes, in the swimming pool next to the Gerevich Aladár National Sports Hall, but even then they could only start the combined event from the eighth place, in which the relay members had to run 3×600 meters each, interrupted by two shooting sessions. They were 33 seconds behind the bronze medalist and 36 seconds behind the leading Italians. Erdős 3-6, then 2-5. she caught up to position, and at the change she was already third behind the Swiss and the Italians. Koleszár overcame his deficit in a matter of seconds, then ran with his Italian and Lithuanian opponents, who were catching up, and “exploded” first from the last shooting, when he reached the full main stand, he waved his two arms to encourage the audience even more, then he ran at a great pace and reached the finish line with a respectable lead , before the Italians and the Lithuanians. The Hungarians won the combined event with 11:56.66 minutes, 36 seconds better than the second best Ukrainians.

The day ended with a show accompanied by live music in the competition center set up in the sculpture park next to the Puskás Arena, Sára Tímár and her band, Ágnes Herczku and Nikola Parov participated, lamenting, mystical and martial songs were sung. The legend on which the quintet is based, the story of the military courier carrying out the mission, who rode a horse, fought with swords and pistols, swam across a river, and then ran to his destination, came to life.
