At the Hungarian Museum of Natural Sciences was announced the following autumn festival programs to the media representatives. The press briefing was given by Dr. László Szende – head of the museum department of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation, Zsolt Bernert – director-general of the Hungarian Museum of Natural Sciences, Miklós Cseri – director-general of the Open-Air Museum of Ethnography, and Magdolna Nagy – director of the Open-Air Museum of Ethnography – Museum Education and director of the Methodology Center.

Above mention representative spoke about the theme of the national program series of the Autumn Festival of Museums 2023 is “Future! Cool! Museum!”. The event will be held between September 25 and November 12, 2023, and its concept was developed along the themes of science and technology.

With the participation of nearly 130 museums, nearly 700 kinds of programs attract visitors to museums throughout the country as part of a series of events lasting nearly one and a half months. Special attention is paid to the connections between the natural sciences and the museum, as well as the authentic communication of scientific results. The dumping of technological achievements that strongly define today’s world has opened up new perspectives for museums as well. As the majority of visitors still have the traditional role of museums as mediating objects, it is important to draw attention to today’s museum that also mediates digitized content and engages target groups interactively. Another goal of this year’s Autumn Festival of Museums is to draw attention to the museum as an authentic place, an authentic source of information in the flood of information that dominates our time. Therefore, they place special emphasis on the science communication taking place in museums, on the consumable and experiential museum presentation of research and scientific results that respond to the challenges of the present. Therefore,  they wish to draw attention to the innovations of museum life, the novel possibilities and ways of sharing the knowledge preserved in museums, and the role of museums in competence and skill development.

The programs include exhibitions, lectures, behind-the-scenes museum tours, as well as various interactive programs. Young people are invited to the “Get on the field!” The event also has an engaging theme with the subtitle, within the framework of which professional presentations, workshops and interactive programs are organized.

This year’s novelty is the “Only of course” theme, which primarily focuses on programs related to the natural sciences, nature knowledge and environmental awareness.
