September, 16–18. 2022.
Tours starting at 6 p.m. – 11 p.m.
The world heritage sites in Pécs will once again participate in the national event called Cultural Heritage Days, as part of which free guided tours, concerts and a spectacular light installation await those interested who would like to get to know the outstanding historical monuments of Pécs.
The program starts at the Early Christian Mausoleum, where visitors can get to know the underground painted burial chamber of the Roman burial building and above ground memorial chapel. During the unusual walk, the visitors will also be introduced to the currently closed exhibition spaces, as they will be visiting Apáca Street in the second half of the program world heritage sites can also be found. The main theme of this year’s Cultural Heritage Days is monument protection, so the tour also talks about the protection of Pécs’ world heritage sites.
The center of the ongoing programs is the Old Christian Mausoleum, renovated and handed over in June this year. (The 4th century Early Christian burial sites part of the UNESCO world heritage … Sopianae, predecessor of Pécs in the Roman times had its late Roman Paleochristian cemetery included in the UNESCO World Heritage list in the year 2000. In their architecture and wall-paintings the excavated finds present the Early Christian burial architecture and art of the Northern and Western provinces of the Roman Empire. From among the Hungarian world heritage sites the Early Christian cemetery is the only one that has won itself a place on the UNESCO world heritage list in the category of culture-historical architecture.)
The program is free, but registration is required … info@pecsorokseg.hu. The number of guided tour is limited.
