With a superb cast and internationally acclaimed directors, Katona József is one of the major art theatre in Hungary, staging classic Hungarian and international drama, as well as a selection of contemporary plays.

During the month of November, the theater will be featuring some screenplays with Hungarian actors introducing plays in Hungarian language and having in English subtitles. An excellent occasion not just for the locals having English language knowledge, but as well for the foreigner audience to peck into the Hungarian actors performances.

November, 9. – 7 p.m. ALEXANDR PUSHKIN: BORIS GODUNOV

November, 10. – 7 p.m. GOGOL: MARRIAGE

November, 11. – 5 p.m. PHILIP LÖHLE: WE ARE NOT BARBARIANS!

November, 11. – 8 p.m.  GÜNTER GRASS: THE TIN DRUM

November, 11 (8 p.m.) and 12. (7 p.m.) HENRIK IBSEN: NORA – CHRISTMAS WITH THE HELMERS.  … Fine time in getting already into the Xmas mood … The story goes: Every marriage reaches its climax eventually. What afterwards comes is either the game of survival or the stages of separation. The ending of A Doll’s House caused huge scandal in 1879 – a woman leaves her husband and their children. In 2016 new questions are framed, demanding new answers. Is it possible to coexist without giving up yourself? How long can you play when roles are fixed? When does fellowship turn into betrayal? Women and men, adults and children, power, money, imitation.
