At the Várkert Bazár "Aposztróf" evening will take place on October 20th a discussion titled *The City Swirls, a Slow Rain Falls – 1956 from the Perspective of Seventy Years*—in which historian Krisztián Ungváry, writer György Spiró, actress Zsófia Szamosi, and director Gábor Máté revisit the events of the 1956 Revolution and its enduring legacy. It has been seventy years since people took to the streets and declared: “Enough is Enough!” Writer György Spiró, actress Zsófia Szamosi, director Gábor Máté, and historian Krisztián Ungváry will revisit the events of 1956 at the upcoming *Aposztróf* evening on October 20th at the Várkert Bazár. We spoke with Krisztián Ungváry about the various names given to the events of 1956, the significance of physical artifacts, and how personal experiences contribute to our understanding of history.
"There are very few moments in the life of a nation when it is clear to everyone which side they
should take. 1956 was one such moment; a sense of national unity was born," says historian Krisztián
Ungváry in our interview. We spoke with him about why it remains important to reinterpret the history
of the revolution today, how personal recollections and physical artifacts aid in understanding the
past, and what message 1956 might hold for today’s generations.
