After the summer break, busy weekdays are back, and this time we have a few exciting premieres to serve you. Among the featured series of the month are the second season of American Hostage , based on true events, and Outlander: Blood in My Blood , but several original European productions are also coming to the platform. Among the film premieres, we find the Oscar-winning Emotional Value starring Renate Reinsve and Stellan Skarsgård, the creepy, emotional thriller The Long March , and Ildikó Enyedi’s special work, The Silent Friend. And for those looking for lighter entertainment, the Creed and Hangover trilogy can offer relaxation.
Series … One of the highlights of the month is the drama series American Hostage (21. Sept.), based on true events, in which a popular radio host (Jon Hamm) unexpectedly finds himself in the middle of a life-threatening hostage drama. The second season of the time-traveling costume drama Outlander: Blood of My Blood (19. Sept.) is also coming. The story continues with Julia (Hermione Corfield) left alone with her daughter, while Henry, separated from his love and all hope, struggles to find his way back to her. Youth (21. Sept.) also debuts, in which 50-year-old divorcee Alex (Sharon Horgan) re-enters dating while caring for her elderly parents and supporting her adult son in everyday life.
September will also be the month of European series premieres. The award-winning German drama 4 Blocks is coming, with its prequel series 4 Blocks Zero (25. Sept.). Set in 1990s Berlin, the story follows the rise of the Hamady family, focusing on family, togetherness and the hope of a new life. All four seasons of the Turkish series Dogu (4. Sept.) are coming, in which we can see the title character’s self-searching, woven with humor and self-irony, the challenges of family pressure and the pitfalls of the working world. In the French psychological thriller Paolo (25. Sept.), the working-class protagonist finds himself embroiled in a politician’s life in a confusing and tense way, the Dutch The Influencer Guru (25. Sept.) guides viewers into the secrets of the world of social media, while the Spanish series Behind the Scenes of Opus Dei features fourteen men from diverse backgrounds speaking out about the spiritual, psychological and financial abuse they suffered in Opus Dei.
HBO Original content is also expanding its offering. Topeka (11. Sept.) explores how a shocking crime case changes entire communities. And in the series Siren: The Voices of Shelley Beattie (24. Sept.) , we get an insight into the life, career and struggles with mental health of the actress and bodybuilder who lost her hearing as a child.
Also available will be the Mexican series Collision (7. Sept.), which tells the story of a mother and daughter who find themselves in conflict. As they fight for their own truth, more and more secrets come to light. And the legendary American radio show, The Howard Stern Show, is also coming (17. Sept.)
Movies ... The Oscar-winning Norwegian drama Sentimental Value (4. Sept.) starring Elle Fanning and Stellan Skarsgård will soon be available on the platform. The family drama centers on a pair of siblings who are reunited with their estranged father after a long time. During the reunion, they must not only sort out their complicated relationship, but also cope with a new character who unexpectedly enters the family’s life, an American movie star.
Ildikó Enyedi’s special film of the year, Silent Friend (4. Sept.), will also be screened, which tells the story of the encounter between man and plant through three stories, the rare moment when these two radically different perceptions nevertheless connect. The main characters, like the plants in the garden, are outsiders and lonely souls. They yearn for connection just as much as they do.
The Long March (18. Sept.) is a spine- tingling, emotional thriller that asks the agonizing question: how far are you willing to go to win? In the film, based on Stephen King’s first novel, fifty teenage boys participate in an annual walking race, but only one participant survives.
Two truly thought-provoking, high-profile pieces of content are also coming. The Evil Network – The Epstein Files (3. Sept.) is a 90-minute documentary that examines Epstein’s crimes, his human trafficking network, and the systemic failures that allowed the abuse to continue for years. And Made in EU (5. Sept.) tells the story of a woman working in a garment factory in a rural Bulgarian town who becomes the first person in her town to contract the coronavirus and is ostracized by her community. The film explores workplace exploitation and social tensions during the pandemic.
Horror fans will not be left without something new this time either: Beware the Clown (11.Sept.), in which a killer clown emerges from the depths of the cornfields to chase the main character and his new friends into a bloody game. But don’t worry, there’s more horror to come next month. For now, we’ll just tell you that October will also have exciting premieres!
Other featured film premieres include The Last Race (17. Sept.), Such Little Things (24. Sept.), Sorry, Little One (3. Sept.) and The Tour II (11. Sept.).
Good choices for family cinema are Lili and the Kangaroo (26. Sept.), Bad Boys (12. Sept.), and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (19. Sept.).
And of course, this month won’t be without marathon movies, and you can even plan three at once: the complete Hangover trilogy is coming (10. Sept.), all three Creed films (11. Sept.), and for retro fans, three Jean-Claude Van Damme classics (3. Sept.): Double Dynamite , Cyborg and Blood Game.
