14th Advent Crafts and Fairy Tale Fair @City of Pécs

The city of Pécs awaits all visitors with a cozy, festive atmosphere at the 14th Advent Crafts and Fairy Tale Fair, which awaits visitors between November 28 and December 24 at Széchenyi Square. The series of events lasting several weeks turns the Advent period into a holiday with a crafts fair, gastronomic specialties, festive lights, theater and music experiences, and programs for children.

Getting together programs:

On the opening day of the fair, November 28th, from 5 p.m., the atmosphere will be set by the concert titled Swing Christmas by Emerton Award-winning singer Gabi Szűcs, and from then on, the festive programs will follow one after another. Advent melodies will be heard daily on Széchenyi Square: the festive concerts of Cimbaliband, Tamás Kéméndi and Anna Györfi, the Belvárosi Betyárok, Boggie, the FiveLive Acappella, the Szélkiáltó, or the Latte Maffiato Orchestra all contribute to the musical diversity of the holiday season. With the support of the Rotary Club Pécs, local schools will be presenting Christmas programs over several days this year, and on Saturdays, students of the Dzsászti Énekstúdió will surprise the audience with “a little evening balcony music” from the balcony of the City Hall. The weekends are rounded off with special experiences: performances by the Fairy Tale Maker, craft workshops, festive concerts by the Pécs National Theatre, guided Advent walks and nativity programmes await families. On Saturdays, in the spirit of ecumenism, representatives of various denominations light the candles on the city’s Advent wreath. The festive atmosphere is further enriched by thematic events: the traditional programme The Holy Family is Looking for Accommodation, the Santa Claus Day events (when children can of course meet Santa Claus himself), and on St. Luke’s Day, a “witch” performance entitled Salem can be seen at the House of Arts and Literature. The Winter Solstice programme will also be exciting, during which a huge LED and fire show will be performed by One Two Many and the Firebirds.
