This time need not having to travel to London … immerse yourself … only sit back enjoy the images by traveling back in time. The film start from the beginning its origins in a private house in Pall Mall to its current home in bustling Trafalgar Square.
The National Gallery in London is one of the world’s largest art galleries. It is full of masterpieces, an inexhaustible source of stories and history. But whose stories does it tell? Which artwork has the greatest impact and on whom? The power of art lies in the fact that it speaks to everyone, regardless of their knowledge of art history, social background, or religion.
This film gives voice to those whose lives have been defined by the Gallery: from the security guard to the director, from the everyday visitor to celebrities and members of the royal family. Monty Python’s Michael Palin and Terry Gilliam, along with the youngest member of the royal family, Princess Eugenie, star reporter and presenter Claudia Winkleman and children’s novelist Jacqueline Wilson, take us into their personal relationships with the National Gallery. Each interviewee names the artwork that means the most to them, and this diverse cross-section of society makes surprising choices from well-known masterpieces to hidden gems! We use these stories to reflect on the National Gallery’s 200-year history, while also exploring what the future holds for this storied exhibition space.
Popular celebrities, dedicated staff and world-class experts come together to paint a unique portrait of this iconic British institution on its 200th birthday.
The Art Cinemas will be screening around Hungary in December 2024.
