About this movie … An intimate overview about coming-of-age portrait of young pianists participating in the legendary International Chopin Piano Competition which is held every five years in Warsaw, Poland.
The “PIANOFORTE” for the competitors is a unique chance of a lifetime for them. Portrayed from backstage and set to Chopin’s music. There are 160 in the semi-finals, afterwards about 80 then 40 competitors. In the end, only 10 lucky i.e. talented ones make it to the finals. PIANOFORTE follows a colorful group of young musicians from around the world who have been preparing since childhood for this is their once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Young pianists have to deal with tough competition, trying practice, new friendships, dramatic situations and even lamp fever. In the maintime they going through on the verge of becoming adults.
This is director Jakub Piatek’s second feature after his previous film introducing himself with”Prime Time” – 2021. – Sundance Film Festival.
(The film had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, followed by the European premiere at CPH:DOX. He received the Visions du Reel Award (Audience Award), It’s All True Award (Special Award), Millennium Docs Against Gravity Award (Audience Award, Best Production Award), Młodzi i Film Award (Best Director), Montclair Film Festival award (special award for editing). Nominated for the IDA Award for Best Music Documentary and the MPSE Reel Award for Music Editing. He was also nominated for the Polish Eagle Award, the winners of which will be announced on March 4.)
