Dr. Ádám Schlégl is 33 year’s old who was among the 4 astronaut candidates out of more than 200 valid applications. The aircraft design engineer András Szakály, development engineer Tibor Kapu and electrical engineer Gyula Cserényi made it to the final four.

Schlégl graduated of the Faculty of General Medicine of the University of Pécs, as well as the research work required for his PhD degree. He is an orthopedic specialist at the PTE Clinical Center. In recent years, as a practicing specialist specializing in tumor surgery, university instructor, black belt karate master, he has already stood on a peak above six thousand meters in the Himalayas – the article highlights. Within his mission will contribute to the promotion of the Hungarian space industry, research institutes operating in the field of space research and, in a broader sense, the fields of natural sciences.

The specialist believes that perhaps even more people can be helped through the program, that biomedical research will have a prominent role, which will eventually appear in daily clinical practice.

They have been tested against the requirements of the European Space Agency (ESA), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the International Space Station (ISS) and Axiom Space. The applicants came from all kinds of scientific fields, according to the article, they included deep-sea archaeologists, astrophysicists, biochemists, economists, transport engineers, hunters and public transport pilots, lawyers, doctors and philosophers.The candidates were also tested on their mental performance, their body’s load capacity, their personality and their cooperation skills

Dr Ádám Schlégl will be able to carry out research work on the International Space Station in 2024 -2025.
